Question about FIGHTING CHANCE DLC and SAFE HAVEN LOCKERS

For those of you that actually have and are able to play the the FC DLC: when revisiting the Locker Room In the Safe Haven do you actually get ammo for the two SPECIALIZED Agony Crossbow Bolts (the Incendiary and the Brain-Poison Lure Bolts) will you occasionally find THOSE Agony Bolts in the Lockers?

I know that upon beating TEW1 the Rocket Launcher and the Machine Gun are awarded to you for NG+.

I know the jury is in on the notion that there are NO refills for the Rocket Launcher, however upon revisiting the Locker Room with spare Keys Machine Gun Ammo came out.

I was wondering: with the FIGHTING CHANCE DLC has anyone ever had the Morgue Lockers dispense the DLC Bolt Ammo?

TEW2: why does Hoffman not call them the Lost?

There’s so much emphasis on Yukiko Hoffman being the team psychologist in Union; why is it then, that in the studies through which Mobius dubbed the monsters the Lost, Hoffman wasn’t consulted? The main theory in-canon was that the corruption was mental. Why was the psychologist not included in this?

IMMEDIATE EDIT: for clarification, she only refers to the Lost as “those things”, never “the Lost”

The Assignment: New Cutscene Skip

I started to replay the Kidman DLCs basically since release and yesterday I found this neat little sequence break. With all the recent developments for the main game speedruns, I decided to give the DLCs some love, so definitely more to come, especially with launches, I just have to reverse engineer the "game" again.

However this one is very beginner friendly and easy to pull off, so give it a try =)

EW1 Chapter two completed (need some help)

Ventureing through woods then a village full of weirdos and escaping in the very last moment by jumping from a bridge is a classic horror,

I understood the point of the mirror, nurse and hospital now that's a safe house but would like to know what should I upgrade that will carry me though the game.

I upgraded fire rate by a level in half way though ch 2 cause I was lacking those points and didn't knew what to do :(

Also would like to know if I can improve the camera angle, cause my character covers more than 30 percent of my screen, on top of it there are movie like black bars on top n bottom (which sometimes makes things look good)

btw I still have no idea on whats happening in game xD

What's up with this game (trippy af) 😭

I heard so many good things bout this game but never bothered to try cause im not a horror game guy,

a while ago i claimed Evil 1 n 2 both for free in epic games store and all of a sudden I decided to gave them a try,

Installed E1, Got a small glitch while running the game (dealt with) got in and it was fine until CCTV scene 😂,

All of a sudden they went full throttle and all sort of crazy shit started happening, a butcher house and a sewer under a hospital, Chain saw guy chasing me who didnt died by a sneak kill 💀, everything went back to normal, not so long entire city started to wash away, a assassin creed like ghost, a weird hospital with weird nurse with a weird level up mechanism and i dont even know what i level up,

This game is very very trippy, i only played it past chapter 1 and i enjoyed it, despite it being a horror game which i never played one (except for RE4, if you consider that as one),

i've no idea what to expect from it but will try my best to complete it,

And Evil 2 as well...

Do we know where Krimson City is?

The wiki says it was supposed to be in a Spanish town but was changed.

The wiki says it is "equally-fictional american urban setting. As a holdover to this Krimson City itself houses a large Hispanic population."

I'm currently trying to write a fanfiction in and near Krimson City, but I can't find a place where it would be set to give me a good footing.

Where do you think Krimson City is?

I think it fits maybe somewhere around Illinois, or perhaps northern Nevada? I'm unsure.

I think I just break chapters 3 using rpg and explosive bolt lol

I dont know if im the first one that discovered this glitch, but you can avoid interacting with jimenez by shooting yourself with rpg or explosive bolts... hand grenade is almost impossible for me, but the game is pretty much softlock since sadist will not spawn unless you kill 3 haunted, then the game will give you a checkpoint... if you kill yourself, then reload the game. The sadist will be spawn, but the rest of the haunted is gone. The gate is already open, and you can fall under the map too, lol another funny thing is if Sebastian kill the sadist after reload the checkpoint and then using his chainsaw Sebastian will glitch out and the gate door will be close but it doesn't stop Sebastian and jimenez to clip through it lol

I just completed first game and I love it

First time I play TEW and I enjoy it a lot. For me is a 9/10 game.

In my opinion the starting is very poor and generic but the middles episodes are pure art. Also the ending part when you return to the destroyed city is a little bit long and some gameplay mechanics or zones are a little bit frustrating. For that it does not have a 10/10 for me.

But if some day there is a remake of this game fixing that, definitely would be awesome.

Do you recommend me the season pass to play the DLCs ?

New save theme for tew3?

As you know, "Claire de lune" made by claude debussy is a save theme for tew1 and 2, but if the third game have a new protagonist maybe we can hear a different theme playing in save room as hinting in one of the game files in the tew2 each morbius member maybe hearing different song... if the third game has a new protagonist, I highly recommend "reverie" by Claude debussy yes the same composer. It sounds really calm, similar to Claire de lune. I love it

Shinji Mikami is officially done with survival horror games

In an interview conducted by u/BYKING_GAME, Shinji Mikami shares information, among others:

- about the desire to distance himself from creating survival horror games to which he was unwillingly tied to;

- about the transformation process of the previous studio, Tango Gameworks, and the reasons why he stayed, despite his desire to leave for 8 years;

- about his new studio - Kamuy, which is to be a place of accelerated experience gain for young developers, creating smaller titles.

Therefore, now officialy - no TEW3 from Mikami-sensei.

So, you guys updating the Steam version of the game with the fixes or what?

What a CURSED precedent this is setting, comapnies are just making exclusive game fixes now? You guys have patched a version of the game in a store and not patched in the other within the same platform.

The MS store has better performance across the board, FOV slider, First Person mode, better stamina, and more that is just not available/updated on Steam.

That is as scummy as it gets and should be illegal, I paid as much as the people from MS Store, so I should get the same version of the game available...

Gaming in 2020s sucks man...

I need a break from this game

From what i see in this reddit many people just drop this game at some point and get back to finish it. I think i need it too. I chose medium difficulty. It was kinda ok up to 9 chapter. But 10th chapter kicked my butt hard. Crematorium girl boss fight stretched my patience a lot (those effing valves and aiming zoom!) but underground parking mutant just wasted me mentally. I switched to easy difficulty but i noticed that it restarts whole chapter (including crematorium fight). I have enough ... I'll get back to it in few months or years.

A writing project I’m starting.

The Evil Within is my absolute favorite game ever, and I’ve really been struggling with writing ideas, so I’ve started a TEW writing project, and I just wanted to share.

I essentially want to write TEW 1 as a novel. I’ll be following the game, and writing it as if it’s a book. While it’s fanfiction, I’m going to try and keep everything as canon to the game as possible. I want everything I add, like inner dialog, “breaks” (like, Sebastian realistically can’t keep running around getting injured and not sit down and rest even once) and anything else like that, to be realistic and reasonable within the game.

I really am just going to try and translate the game, as close to 1 to 1 as I can, into writing form. I don’t know how long it’ll be, or how much stuff I will add (I’ll try and keep it minimal).

I just wanted to share incase anyone else is interested :) /g

Screen resolution error

Hi, I want to lower resolution from 1080p to have more fps, but when I try to set 1280x720 the game gives me black screen and wouldn't load. Does anyone how to fix this? I have vega 8 mobile gpu, so I don't have Nvidia geforce. Also I have the game on Epic

Review of TEW 1 & 2

Like I’m sure is true for a lot of people here I had just tried Resident Evil and loved it, saw that this had the same director and survival horror genre so knew I had to play it right away.

I nearly stopped playing after the first couple of chapters because of the insanely harsh lack of autosave in chapter 2 (the rest of the game is very generous with it), followed by a quite difficult chapter 3 which I sucked at but I thought to stick with it since it felt like a game worth my time and I was right to stick with it. For anyone who starts and is on the fence, I would recommend continuing since it is fully worth it and imo plays even better on repeat runs.

Not all positives and negatives listed below are equal (most of the negatives are minor nitpicks)

THE EVIL WITHIN:

Positives:

  1. The atmosphere is unlike any other. Each level brilliantly designed and staged to evoke maximum dread and creepiness. The variety in the settings from the rundown hospital to sunset-washed cliff side keeps the game feeling fresh and shows how the developers were able to make any setting exciting. The opening where you hang from the butcher hook is an great way to throw you right into what this game is all about (even if I was scared to turn a corner for the next half hour after escaping him)
  2. The character design is unreal. The Keeper (or just SafeHead as I only call him) is one of my favourite character designs in gaming. The fuzzy screen element before he spawns is the cherry on top. His intro in the game is handled so well by constantly teasing him before the big reveal.
  3. Every chapter felt fresh to me. Mixing it up with action, puzzles, stealth. Some more plot focused, some more partner based. Each level felt distinct.
  4. The weapon system is so fun. A large variety of weapons, and the crossbow is easily the most fun to use. In my first playthrough I spammed explosive bolts and freeze bolts but I subsequently learned that the real best tactic was electro bolt + matches, and blinding the enemies. Playing it with different tactics made previously more frustrating fights much more enjoyable.
  5. The characters. I thought Sebastian worked really well as the stoic foil to the elaborate horror unleashing around him. He managed to feel like a pressured man that had everything against him but was calm enough to make it through. And the nurse was my favourite character. She was a weird comfort away from the brutal action.
  6. The game doesn’t hold your hand. This can be frustrating at first but it’s what makes the game work so well. The lack of ammo and resources makes you feel in Sebastian’s shoes and also gives a feeling of accomplishment when you get through each section, particularly on the harder difficulties. I played the game through 4 times and enjoyed it more each time.

Negatives:

  1. I fully understand the reasoning, but I can’t help but feel the villains feel more intimidating as one-offs. The Sadist appears like 4 times and whilst I love his character and popped when he reappeared, I couldn’t help but think that it made him feel more like a random rare enemy than a specific fearful threat. The guy who appears in chapter 1 feels much more of a threat than any of his subsequent counterparts (I laughed so hard when he randomly came with a rocket launcher like a cheat). Maybe that just represents how much Sebastian evolves through the story.
  2. The plot was kinda a mess (least important part of a survival horror tho imo). There were like 8 different plot threads and I thought it was kinda insane that Sebastian has like a whole backstory of a child lost to a fire and a detective wife who unearths a conspiracy about the whole thing that is relegated to some notes. It felt like a whole games worth of story right there (which luckily they felt the same). I also would’ve liked them to push that connection a bit more. Sebastian being particularly driven to save Leslie because he represents the child that he was never able to save.
  3. The game starts to run out of steam a little bit but rescues it with some cool set pieces.

Overall: 9/10

TEW 2:

Positives:

  1. The story is just fantastic. It’s always personal and story driven and has a great emotional hook that really propels the whole story. I was worried after Stefano left that it might lose steam but if anything it just started kicking into gear. I loved how Sebastian was portrayed in this and resolved all the threads of the first game. This one felt really focussed as well.
  2. The side characters are all so likeable and well written (Torres is the best). Each team member was better than the last and they all served as guilt-ridden people trying to correct their past, which felt very fitting for Sebastian. Two sides of the same coin. Liam’s arc was so tragic that I flipped from hating him for lazing about non-stop to wishing I didn’t have to put him out of his misery. In the end it works as a good commentary about the powerlessness of individuals in the face of STEM. It doesn’t matter if people like Sykes survived because the chip would’ve killed him anyway. There is no real escape from its reach.
  3. Stefano is one of the most fun characters in years. His personality was so ott and stylish, and you couldn’t help but love him. He was so unpredictable and the way he bended the images in front of your very eyes to make you doubt everything was really enjoyable to play through. This is what survival horrors are about. Outlandish horror fun. The video game equivalent to slasher films (big compliment). Him spying on you early on are the sort of small details I love.
  4. Chainsawing the sadist to death might be the greatest and most cathartic moment I’ve played. The scene of going back to Liam to hear the “Evil Within, too” dialogue was a close second.

Negatives:

  1. The trade-off for a great mystery and story is that I felt it didn’t have as much replay value.
  2. Couldn’t match the atmosphere of the first game outside of Stefano’s scenes.
  3. Theodore was the least interesting of the series’ villains but still does the job.

8.5/10

Miscellaneous:

  1. Did anyone else find it hilarious how Stefano was just like that, unrelated to the plot. Obviously Theodore recruits him but he just happened to be there for him to employ. Stefano was just a straight up dramatic killer with no connection to anyone.
  2. The amount you reconnect and lose people in the first game is off the rails. Every 5 minutes you reunite with Kidman, Leslie, or Joseph and then lose them immediately.
  3. To that end, no one stays dead in this series. Joseph, Myra, Lily, even STEM itself. They all have fakeouts that I just don’t trust anyone is dead in these anymore.

If you’ve made it this far then thanks for reading and I’d love to hear any responses. Bring on The Evil Within 3!

Recently completed The Evil Within main game enjoyed it a lot! Shall I go for the DLCs or not?

I just completed TEW1 main game and now I am confused if I should invest my time on the DLCs or just watch their cutscenes on YouTube 🤷🏻‍♂️. I definitely enjoyed the main game action but I have heard the DLCs are just horror survival no shooting. Any suggestions??
