So I believe we either need:
TV w/ Roku built in + USB Stick that supports Steam Link
—- or —-
TV w/ smart TV platform that has Steam Link built in + Roku USB Stick
EITHER WAY I WOULD LIKE THE USB STICK TO BE POWERED BY THE TV. We have parrots 🦜 and we need to minimize cords.
Also I’d like the Steam Link to support plugging into wired Ethernet.
Here are other criteria:
45” to 55” 4K HDR <$500 or less would be great
I tried searching but if anyone knows if this has been solved then please let me know
When I use the steam link app on my iPad 9, sometimes it works fine and other times I get slow connection. Yet when I use the steam link app on my iPad mini gen 5 it always works good. Both devices are on the same 5G network. I am not sure why the iPad 9 wifi connection in the app is slow sometimes and other times isn't. Any suggestions to fix the iPad 9 steam link slow connection issue?
I want to set up my desktop at home with my friends Apple TV, but the two machines are far apart. I know I could set them up over LAN, but I want to set them up over WAN. I have an OpenVPN server at home, but as far as I know, Apple TV doesn't have an app for it.
Is it possible to do without bringing one machine to the other location? If so, what are my options?
Is it possible to use mobile SteamLink app only as a controller for my Steam games?
As of now, when I connect it, it also starts to stream both screen and audio to my phone. Could I turn it off somehow, so that there'll be only buttons on my phone?
Hello guys, can anyone help me? i just bought a new monitor and finally could put the games on 1440p but once i changed this option on my steam link it started to blink on a green scrim similar to what happens once your GPU is not working properly, but the steam works just fine in my pc monitor, please heeeelp!
After like 10 minutes of playing on my quest 2 it stops for a sec and says video not streaming then returns but the screen becomes super shaky sooo anything I can do?
I have my computer connected to my Apple TV via an Ethernet cable, but they are in different rooms. When I stand in the room where the Apple TV is, I feel a delay between when I press the button and the game responding, but when I stand in the same room as the computer, I feel almost no lag.
I have tried using multiple controllers but the lag is always there.
I'm not sure if this is related, but I'm almost constantly losing 60% of my frames and my latency is high (as you can see in the picture).
Does anyone have any idea why?
So I sold my Steam Link but I think I forgot to factory reset it. One thing that happened for sure is that since last time of using it, the password was changed many times and I use 2FA. Also sometime ago I unauthorized all devices. Would the new owner face any issues or would my account security be compromised somehow?
Does anybody know if there is any setup to use the Steam Link device (the original hardware one, not the app) with two monitors, extending the screen? If not, is it possible to do with the app version?
I have the latest update of Steam Link on my Shield, but I don't see the option to turn on HDR support either on the app itself, or on steam on the host.
How do I enable HDR support? Is it because I'm using HEVC encoding?
As the title says, when I try to stream non-Steam games from my Steam deck to my desktop, I get the sound but the screen keeps loading. I have tried various settings in the stream link settings, such as hardware encoding on host and client, but none of them work.
Any help is appreciated
Edit note: Streaming Steam games works, it's just non-Steam games that don't work
I remember playing non steam games without adding them as non-steam games with on screen gamepad controls, but now seems like they disabled that feature??
The controller turned on the steam link and is moving a mouse but it says it needs input. I'm at a loss.
I have no idea where to begin with this. I’m looking for advice for which settings to use. Currently have bandwidth set to 50mbps, beautiful as a video setting but I’m getting jitters. I have about 300mil a download/upload and not sure why it hitters. Please could someone help with the best settings to use? Thank you
Alright, so I leave the house alot and I leave my pc on with Steam open so that I can Steam Link into it and do stuff on it. But after a while, I will get in, but it will let me move my mouse around, but not click on anything. I am about to go on a vacation so I am really looking for a fix for this.
When using Steam Link on my Quest 3 my steam library is empty. If I use virtual desktop and and load my VR title from the VD menu it works but if I load Steam VR from VD my library is empty there as well. I really need some help please.
It's just the home void loaded, no games or apps running, my audio is very pixelated and cuts out at time, and the sound is choppy. The experience is so bad you cannot literally even use any menu, playing anything like that is totally out of question. With Oculus AirLink tho the line is perfectly green and everything works as expected. Ideas?
I stream from an Nvidia shield with the latest version of steam link, using both a PS5, and a PS4 controller. Both my PC and the shield have cabled connection to the router. When I push a button while streaming there is a noticeable input delay, which doesn't happen while using moonlight/sunshine.
I don't understand, because with this setup I should be able to stream no problem. I have tried a lot of different settings, but none seem to fix it. Does anyone else have the same issue?
I have a friend who has wanted me to play cult of the lamb with. I've tried playing via remote play but the connection has always been bad. The thing is I am wired, and I just learned via my roommate we have fiber internet. I'm not sure what I need to do to tinker and make it work.
When I start a game that has controller support (like Fallout 4 or Skyrim are the ones I've tried) the on screen controller layout does not have controller buttons, but just mouse/keyboard shortcuts mapped to buttons. Is there a way to just keep the controller layout (dpad, x-y-a-b buttons, etc) on screen and have steam register that I'm using a controller when using steam link? I can't find any settings for this, when I scroll through layout presets, they are all just mouse keyboard presets.
I know it must be possible, because when I launch Balatro for example, it immediately defaults to controller, even though that game definitely HAS mouse/keyboard support.
For anyone else out there using RetroArch on the SteamLink hardware for emulating old systems, you may have noticed that input suddenly broke recently:
(Once Valve stop fiddling with the firmware it might still be nice to politely ask the LibRetro team if there's anyone who could do a recompile against the latest SDK, as that seems to update with the firmware updates.)
Im playing in the drugstore tv i work but sometimes it lags and then a black screen appears then everything is normal for a couple of minutes any idea what could be causing this?
I noticed that the home bar (thing you use to exit apps) on iPhone doesn’t go away when I’m streaming so I have the bar blocking the bottom bit of the screen. Any idea how to fix this?
Hello
I was in the recent steam link beta, on Android atleast.
And steam link now finally has HDR10 + HLG on mobile & TV.
The resolution also auto changes on the PC, as long as NVidia CP (I have nvidia) knows that resolution.
I also found that steam sees that device, and when you open the store on steam link phone, it automatically gives you the best games for that moment on link on that specific device.
Like, if you play steam link on phone, and open the store on that device, you only get the "Steam link on Phone" homepage, with games that all have phone steam link touch controls.
If you open steam link on the smart tv/chromecast, you get games that work there best, and see a "steam link on TV" homepage.
There's even a specific mode for tablets. I opened steam link om my fathers samsung tab, and it recognized it and gave me a "Steam link for tablet homepage" storefront.
So, I wanna hear others' opinions; please lemme know!
I bought an Nvidia Shield pro for the purpose of displaying whatever is on my desktop PC to my TV, but it's been a lot more complicated than I thought. Apparently Nvidia got rid of their own streaming software, which kind of defeats the purpose of the shield unless you're planning to use 3rd party streaming apps.
So next I tried Steam Link and got AWFUL results. I'm mostly using this to stream video not games so I can tolerate some level of delay, but just by moving my mouse around on my desktop while watching my TV I could tell that there was nearly a half second delay. Furthermore, the frame rate seemed to be fluctuating all over the place to the point where it was noticeable while watching movies, even in slow paced scenes where not much was happening.
Next I tried Moonlight on the Shield and Sunshine on my desktop, which kind of weirded me out since while Moonlight has a fairly professional looking website, I had to download Sunshine from a sketchy looking site, and when I launched it my browser gave a warning that it wasn't safe. But I got it working and it was SO MUCH BETTER than Steam Link. I haven't tried gaming with it, but moving my cursor around felt very smooth with little to no delay, and there was zero issue with frame rate for movies.
I feel like I have to be missing something, since Steam Link's performance was so bad that I couldn't watch movies, let alone play games over it due to the stuttering and the delay. I have my Shield and my PC hooked up to the same router over ethernet. My PC is a beast with a 4090 and 14900k. I messed with the advanced Steam Link settings and couldn't find anything that made it work any better. But Moonlight worked flawlessly on default settings.
Am I missing something? Or is Steam Link really just that bad? I feel like I have to be missing something, since it might as well not exist if it has 0.5sec input delay.
Hello, I use Steam Link on an Apple TV using Ethernet but I found that black colors are completely glitched… This is unplayable on games like Outer Wilds (space game). Do you have some suggestions ? As a workaround, I increase the gamma inside game settings to remove darker colors.
Thanks ! 🙏
I would like to change the default operating system of my Steam Link (harware) and install something that can run old games (NES, SNES, GENESIS). I found some systems that (possibly) could run: Lakka, EmuELEC, Retropie, etc.
I have Retroarch installed on Steam Link, but it is an old version, and its usability is not that good, so I wanted something that looks better and is also more practical to use.
Does anyone know if it is possible to change the default operating system of the Steam Link? Maybe a small Linux distribution, or if there is something to improve its usability, but without needing to connect to a PC with Steam?
Or maybe even find something I can do with it (other than use it as a paperweight). If you have any ideas on how to make it useful again, any ideas are welcome.
I know that its hardware of Steam Link is very limited, so I don't have much hope, I just wanted to confirm if anyone has tried...
This is my current setup:
- host desktop PC: AMD ryzen 5 5600X, 32 gb ram, nvidia 3060 ti, 512 gb ssd, windows 11
- TV: Samsung UE60JU6800K 60" 4k
- client mini PC: Intel NUC NUCi3BNH Intel® i3-7100U (3M Cache, 2.40 GHz), ram 2x4gb 2133 mhz, 250 gb ssd Samsung evo 850 M.2, windows 10
The client is insufficient to stream Steam games fluidly. I considered the following for a replacement:
I would like to spend as low as possible, but have a fluid 4k 60 fps streaming. Which is the best client hardware to do so?
Hello, I have a desktop and a smart tv (which does not have access to steam link due to software limitations) in a game room and I would like to stream from desktop to tv without lag to be able to play what are the best solutions?
