Question about adding SWA9500s

Thanks for all your help so far. I was back and forth between the vizio M 5.1.2 and the samsung Q800b.

I finally decided to pull the trigger and snagged a barely used Q800b from someone moving cross country for $250. I haven’t fine tuned it or anything yet but they only reason I was hesitant was because it didn’t have satellite speakers, but knowing I can add them later for around $100 later makes me feel better about trying it.

I’m coming from a vizio 5.1 from 2016 (cheapest model) which has satellites, so I’m going to try the 800b first without speakers.

My question is….on vizio 5.1 are the satellite speakers meant to be side speakers or back speakers? If I add the SWA9500s do they function only as back speakers or do they also add side functionality?

My room is setup with the couch pushed up against the wall about 9 ft from the TV/center speaker wall. If I do get the 9500s they would have to be mounted right behind the couch beside the person sitting there, so they wouldn’t have much depth and would almost be positioned as side speakers like my vizio ones are now.

Basically is it worth it to add them if there isn’t much depth behind the couch and are they ok if I have them mounted more as side/back hybrids? If not I may just stay with the Q800 by itself.

Thanks for any input and sorry for the long post.

q990c sales

I see a lot of people mentioning the q990c going on sale. I think I have no need for the d, given that my TV has eARC.

I'm just wondering if anyone can comment on how often these sales are, and how cheap, and where do they go on sale?

On amazon the best I see on price tracking for the past year is $1300, which is still significantly more than a refurbished unit at $1000. Are people buying directly from Samsung?

LG SL5Y: No sound from any input.

Hello,

First time poster. Got a second hand LG SL5Y soundbar, and it makes no noise regardless of which input I select. The soundbar "appears" to be working (connects to subwoofer, buttons and remote function, volume goes up and down even with TV remote), but no sound.

The soundbar also doesn't appear on Bluetooth at all, no sign of it.

The TV, cables, etc have all been tested with two different soundbars and all work as expected, and the faulty soundbar still doesn't work when in place of either functional one.

I know it is likely goosed, but I am curious if anyone can point me in the direction of the fault as it "seems" to work up to a point, and would also like to know if repair is possible/feasible/worthwhile.

Thanks.

Best Overall Soundbar System?

Without considering price, what do you suggest?

I just traded in my Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar, 900 sub and 700 surround speakers. In my opinion the system sounded amazing. I was having an issue with the sub that I could not resolve where it would randomly start popping for a few seconds.

Exchanged it for the Sonos Arc, Era 300 speakers for surround and the Gen 3 subwoofer.

Overall I’m extremely disappointed with the Sonos system compared to Bose. Yes, I did the true tune, different methods as well and the result is the same. Highs are too high and tinny, dialog is too low, and overall the balance of sound is just bad.

With the Bose soundbar the sound coming from my TV felt like it was coming from the entire wall, the So os just feels like a speaker projecting sound directly at my face.

Audio delay with soundbar?

I only notice this when playing games, but there is a decent audio delay on my soundbar. The only fix I`ve found is to change the digital audio out mode from "Auto" to "PCM", however then I get no audio from the built in Google TV OS, and if I understand correctly PCM is stereo only.

The TV is a Sony X90J paired with a HT-A7000+SW3. I notice the delay with both a docked Steam Deck and a Nintendo Switch.

Any ideas? I'd rather not have to keep switching between PCM and Auto.

Q990C or Q990D?

I’m getting Q990C for $900 (Rs. 74k), and Q990D for $1300 (Rs. 1.1L). Which one should I go for? I’m planning on purchasing LG G4 65’ when it launches here, and eyeing for PS5 Pro, which is rumoured to support 4K 144Hz. Should I save the money for display and the console, or Q990D is well worth what we’re paying for?

Sony soundbar question

I have ordered a hta 7000 but it came with a dent so I am getting a new one.

Problem is hta 7000 isn’t in stock anymore. Maybe it comes later.

But do I want to trade it in for a Sony Bravia theatre 9 soundbar. But can’t find reviews.

Would it be better or not?

Help me pick a budget speaker

Hi. Right now I don't have any sound at all at home except for my phone speakers, and I would like to have a speaker that I can connect to my computer to play games or watch movies, and to my phone to play music and take to other rooms. Is there any portable speaker / soundbar with good (not perfect but good) sound across the range, on a budget of $100-150? What I found on the internet either costs pennies or a lot of money, and something in between I can't find.

It is also important that it is not a niche brand, but one that I can order from aliexpress, because I live in eastern Europe and ordering from America is definitely not an option.

Settings for 990qb Samsung Sounbar

Does anyone have any specific set of settings to utilize all the channels and the Samsung soundbar 990 QB?

Any particular website, which tells us how to do it ?

Some test files to check the Dolby Atmos?

I use Fire TV 4k connected to my Projector.

Can up-firing speakers still work with a popcorn ceiling an a still ceiling fan?

I know that both a popcorn ceiling and ceiling fan (albeit a still one) are factors that diminish the effectiveness of up-firing speakers. And up-firing speakers already put me at a disadvantage compared to ceiling or height speakers. However, I’d like to know, especially from those who have personally tried this, whether I still have a solid shot at getting up-firing speakers to work in my small apartment living room, whose ceiling has these disadvantages.

Fortunately, however, all of my rooms have a ceiling height of 8’8”, which is an advantage when it comes to up-firing speakers.

I’m debating between buying a 5.1.2 vs a 5.1.4. So, I’d also like to know whether I’d definitely need a 5.1.4 to make the up-firing speakers work at least decently.

In case anyone needed to know, if I go the 5.1.2 route, then my surround sound system will be this one:

VIZIO M-Series 5.1.2 Immersive Sound Bar with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Bluetooth, Wireless Subwoofer, Voice Assistant Compatible, Includes Remote Control - M512a-H6 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08TV6GJF7/?coliid=IJH3TX0Z9M6P8&colid=2WSHF74GQAT2V&psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_ud_lstpd_DFHJ0JNP6RAJ18H2J1NB

But if I go the 5.1.4 route, then my surround sound system will be this one:

VIZIO Elevate 5.1.4 Home Theater 48" Sound Bar Dolby Atmos and DTS:X (P514a-H6) (Renewed) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PMZGCCX/?coliid=I17O34F6ERC5WI&colid=2WSHF74GQAT2V&psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_ud_lstpd_DFHJ0JNP6RAJ18H2J1NB_1

So, as you see in my speaker choice, both of these will support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Correct me if I’m wrong, but these 3D surround sound technologies technically don’t even require any height speakers at all as they use advanced audio processing to simulate sound coming from above. As such, shouldn’t this also help to compensate for the disadvantages of my apartment’s living room?

Sony HTA-700: setup for classical music?

Any recommendations for how to get the best sound out of the HTA-7000 for classical music listening? I'm streaming Apple Music through an Apple TV 4K, or using Airplay. The sound (whether just music listening, or streaming concerts with video also) seems designed for movies - very bright, goosed for high and low frequencies, and lacking in the middle, just the opposite of what I need for classical music listening. There's no EQ on this beast from what I can find. And Sony Support just had me play with the height/volume etc. of the speaker settings, which makes little difference.

I like my Sony headphones (XM4) for classical, but I can fine-tune with the EQ. There doesn't seem to be anything like that on the sound bar

Sony TV with Sonos Arc - audio/video sync problem

Sony TV connected to Sonos Arc soundbar via arcHDMI. Having inconsistent video/audio sync issues.

I've heard that Sony has processing issues that tend to cause this (that it's an issue on the Sony TV side, not the Sonos side). Is this true?

Has anyone run into this and solved it?

Would using the optical port on the TV with the Sonos HDMI/optical adapter resolve the problem?

Or optimizing the settings on the Sony TV audio settings?

I can hear has a slight buzzing noise coming out of my receiver, is there something wrong with it or is my hearing just too good?

When my soundbar's receiver is on I can hear a slight buzzing noise coming out of it, and the noise still plays even when there's sound playing from a movie or something. Ofc if the movie is loud or if the room is not completely silent, I can't hear the slight buzzing noise anymore.

Will Q600C work with KD-65X85L no issues?

I bought both for my mum, shes an elderly and not a tech savy person, no additional user input for soundbar operation would be perfect. Main point being, I guess, will it turrn on and of with the TV automatically?

PS5 + Q990c Low rear speaker sound

I find the rear speakers performing better in terms of immersiveness and sound levels when the Audio output is set to Dolby Digital rather than Atmos. Is that normal? With Atmos it almost feels like the sound just comes from the front itself. PS- I am playing Spiderman and Q990 sound mode is set to Adaptive.

Samsung Q990C - Ex Demo

I was in Currys this morning and they have 3 ex demo Q990Cs available for £649.

There's no box and a few minor marks on the sub I don't care about, but everything else looks mint.

I spoke to the Samsung rep in store, it comes with all the cables, remote and a years guarantee.

I was going to yolo it. I've had the blessing from my partner, is there any reason I shouldn't pop back and pick one up? I was looking to get the 990D later this year, but this seems a good price for what it is.

It'll be paired with an LG G2 if that matters.

Samsung Q990C - DolbyAtmos problem.

Hello, I purchased the soundbar from Amazon UK, was delivered a day ago. I installed the surround speakers at the back of the room, and set them in the Samsung SmartThings app as Rear. The sound quality is great, but for some reason DolbyAtmos lacks full surround effect. I can hear most of the channels, but LS and RS are simply coming from LRS + L and RRS + R. Also, all top channels are not properly rendered, I can hear the sound, but it's not coming from top, the sensation is not there, looks like the system is not bouncing the sound.

Both, the soundbar and LG G2 (connected via HDMI eArc) reports DolbyAtmos when such soundtrack is being played.

I tried different sound modes, changing volume of top or side channel doesn't really make any noticeable difference. I tried Space Fit, but no success.

Initialisation didn't help. My room is nearly square, and not cluttered, I tried positioning speakers in different positions, but that doesn't help either. It's not a perfect listening environment, but I'd expect at least a bit of sound bouncing, instead I can hear each speaker separately.

Is there anything else I can try or should ask for a replacement?

New Q990D bass barely working

I have scoured the forums for a fix. Updated firmware. And messed with settings. I've tried the bass and treble to fully off then back up. I've reset the system multiple times as well. And yes I've moved the sub around the room.

Unless I'm at 40 or more, which is stupid loud, 16 is where I'd be, the subwoofer doesn't even seem to kick in. I've done bass tests and yes it's on. But you can see it's not even moving.

Reviews say the sub is thumping and room shaking. Did I get a dud?

Edit for the following day. Returned to store and swapped. I have bass. Not a POS but first was certainly DOA, or least faulty. Cheers all.

Samsung Q800C Adaptive+ w/ Spacefit Pro & Q Symphony ( QN90C )

Does using adaptive+ with spacefit pro automatically adjusts your channel level to match each other volumes?

Or

Is it better to turn them off and adjust each respective channel level to match each other volumes?

Need help with my sound bar

I have a new Samsung tv and a older Vizio sound bar. I am having trouble with the audio. I have a lot of background noise to the point where I can’t hear dialogue in the shows or movies that I watch. I have messed with the audio a bit and it has helped a little. But I’m wondering if there is something I might be missing. Any help would be appreciated

Recommended soundbar with full IR remote support

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a new soundbar and would very much prefer a soundbar that has full access to all features and functions using an IR universal remote. All of the sound bars I've looked at seem to have reliance of using a smartphone app. I don't have a real objection to this, but I'm someone who is not tethered to my phone and would much prefer to be able to be able to use a remote control (currently using an old Logitech Harmony One, but would upgrade that as well if necessary)

My current contenders are the Sonos Arc, Bose 900/ultra, or Sennheiser Ambeo, but they all need the app to access some controls/features.

I'm coming from using an old Yamaha YSP-2200, which I still actually enjoy, but with the way it connects to the tv, it prohibits watching 4k content.

Any thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

Dialogue always seems too quiet on LG SJ3 soundbar. Any suggestions?

Standard mode just sounds flat to me, so I have it on Cinema normally. Programmes with dialogue but no music are fine, but when I watch a show where there’s dialogue and music, the dialogue just seems to get drowned out and I can’t find a good balance. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Samsung Q900C vs Sonos Arc with Sub Gen 3 (No rears)

Hello Everyone,

I have Sonos Arc and Sub in my living room and I was planning to get something for the bedroom as well. Initial plan was to get the beam and sub mini but decided to give a try to Samsung Q900C which is basically Q990C without rears. The reason was price. I was able to get Q900C at the cost of Beam by itself. I’m in Canada. So I would like to share my experience.

After listening to the Q900C my only reaction was WOW! I ended up moving Arc to bedroom and sammy to living room. Samsung just asks for big room because it can GET LOUD.

Music: For Music I like the sound of the Arc. By no means Samsung is bad. Both have great amount of bass as well. But I prefer Arc tonality wise.

Movies: Samsung hands down is the winner here. It blows the arc out of the water. One big difference between these two was the centre channel performance. Samsung is so powerful for dialogues. And sub is also very capable. I know lot of people tends to complain about the bass on Samsung but I would suggest you to try it first. It is very capable and refined. Overall Samsung sounds way more cinematic than the Arc. It’s big and bold.

Anyone who is trying to choose between these two I would highly recommend Samsung unless you’re deep into sonos system. Plus you can’t ignore the great discount on Samsung.

BOTH THE SYSTEMS WERE TESTED WITHOUT REARS.
