Need some help understanding

Hello everyone, I’m new to soundbars and just picked up my first one yesterday! I went with a Samsung. It sounds great and I’ve really been enjoying it.

While going through my soundbar I came across the settings for what says middle channel and top channel. They are both set to 0. Does this mean certain speakers are off? If so then what does setting them in the negatives do? Is this something I’d want to change or should I just leave them alone? I want all the speakers to be playing.

Thanks in advance and my bad for so many questions but I’m really enjoying the soundbar and want it working at full potential!

FYSA to anyone that got a 990D from the Samsung Partner Store

  1. Price is now higher - so good timing if you got it at <$900

  2. They just chopped 2 weeks off of my estimated delivery - might be worth checking your current estimate again if you have not logged in recently.

No sound - Samsung HW-S60A to Sony C85K

After fighting with this for a while, I’m hoping someone might have some ideas here. Had no issues with this connection up until about 2 weeks ago, when no sound would come through the sound bar anymore. Soundbar is connected through eARC (HDMI3) with the same HDMI cord that worked previously. Strangely, it started working for about an hour last night but doesn’t work today anymore.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Tv and soundbar are on correct sources
  • Software for TV and soundbar are updated
  • Have reset both soundbar and TV
  • Tested HDMI cord and eARC HDMI slot with other devices (both work fine)
  • Tried soundbar on other HDMI slots (nope)
  • Tried connecting soundbar via Bluetooth (nope)
  • Connected soundbar to another, older TV with standard ARC HDMI, where it worked with no connection issues
  • Tried turning off and on BRAVIA sync, but not sure if there’s anything else I need to do here

The TV detects that the soundbar is connected through the eARC slot, but when a set up is attempted no sound comes through. I’ve also got the sound bar connected to the SmartThings app, which shows it’s connected to the TV via eARC. In addition to no sound, the TV and remote no longer control the soundbar (doesn’t turn on/off with tv, no volume control).

Any suggestions on what I can try next??

Audio through soundbar sounds choppy

Hey gang, posted this in r/hometheater and thought I’d post here too. I tagged this as Bose but I get it through a Sony too. Have a look, what do you think?

Curious for some ideas here. My living room audio is intermittently gets this choppy disruption-type sound. It can happen when people are talking on screen, the crowd cheering during a sporting event, or even during a show’s opening theme.

To try and troubleshoot, I’ve replaced the optical cable, replaced the soundbar, tried the original soundbar on another tv in another room. I even had Best Buy out to replace the main board in the TV today. Still getting the choppy output at times while watching.

Any ideas what might be causing this? I’m frustrated beyond belief and out of ideas on how to remedy this.

Where to Download Dolby Atmos Test Files for Q990D?

Hey everyone,

I just got my Samsung Q990D and want to test out some Dolby Atmos content. I’m already aware of Demolandia and dolby test files on their website, but I was wondering if there are any other sources for Atmos demo files?

Are there any recommended sites, direct download links, or even Telegram channels where I can find actual Dolby Atmos files? I’d love to try out some high-quality content to properly experience what this soundbar can do.

Appreciate any suggestions!

Soundbar for C4

Best soundbar to pair with a C4? Room is only 8'x9' so the 990D seems a bit much, but I would like to have satellite surrounds . Any suggestions or personal experiences would be appreciated. Upgrading from a costco special Samsung 2.1

Anyone else think the Samsung q990d has annoying reflections off the top of the unit?

I just hooked up the soundbar and notice the top of it reflects the tv a good bit. It’s kind of bright and more reflective than other soundbars I have. I will probably get use to it and not think about it after a while but am surprised Samsung didn’t go with a more non reflective or more matte paint.

Polk audio soundbars

There does not seem to be a lot of talk here about Polk audio soundbars.

In the lower price range, say sub $300 how do they compare for a small apartment to the Vizio and lower end Samsung products?

Thanks

Looking for recommendations for a high powered soundbar that has WIRED rear speakers.

I have in wall rear speakers, and I power them from the rear speaker outs on a soundbar subwoofer i have right now.

But I am looking to upgrade my soundbar, so I need a good quality one that has wired rear speakers so I can use the same setup with my in wall speakers.

Any reccomendations?

Why I chose the Yamaha True X 50A over the big brands

I noticed there aren’t many reviews of the Yamaha True X 50A out there, so I thought I'd share my experience.
I think it's a great product in a market dominated by Samsung and a few other brands with similar offerings. This Yamaha is somehow different, maybe not the best of the best, but I believe most people would love it if they gave it a try.

I don't do reviews, so this review might be not complete or inaccurate for some of you, but feel free to ask in the comments and I'll answer.

Pros:

  • Great sound: The sound quality is really good. The soundbar delivers high-quality audio, and while the subwoofer isn’t super powerful, you can easily increase the power via the app or remote and enhance the bass to your liking. I've never pushed it to the max volume, or my neighbours will kill me. Also, it has 2 bluetooth satellites, and they are also quite powerful and high-quality sound, together or alone, even if they are small.
  • Minimal and elegant design: It’s not bulky like other brands. It's covered in cloth and it looks so much elegant to me, I love it. The subwoofer has a classic design, I love the Yamaha logo on the side. The satellites are small and fit anywhere, making them very adaptable for any room.
  • Detachable satellite speakers and flexibility: This is one of the best features! You can place them wherever you want, and since they support Bluetooth, you can even use each one (separately) as a portable speaker. Amazing. I usually keep them on shelves in surround mode, and when I watch a movie, I bring them closer to the couch—one on the left and one on the right. Once the movie is over, back to the shelves they go. Sometimes when I move around the house (within Wi-Fi range), I just play music with the whole setup, but I take one speaker to the bedroom and turn up its volume. It’s way more straightforward than connecting via Bluetooth. In Bluetooth mode, I can carry one around the house or even outside, which is super handy. Also, when they turn on/off they make a very nice sound.
  • The remote: It’s very convenient, has all the controls you need, and makes it super easy to adjust settings without messing around too much. Its design is not the best, but doesn't matter.

Cons:

  • No upward-firing speakers on the satellites: Honestly, I don’t care that much. How often do we really need to hear planes flying over our heads in movies? Not a deal-breaker for me.
  • Satellite power-on issue: When they’re not connected to a power source, they don’t turn on automatically. A bit of a pity, but I guess it’s for battery saving. I bought some cheap but much longer USB-C cables to power them in the shelve where they sit, so they turn on automatically.
  • Lack of quick setting "scenes": It would be great if Yamaha added a feature to save custom sound settings in the app. For example, when I watch a movie, I always set it to “movie mode” with volume +2 on the left satellite. But when I switch to music, I play with all speakers and want to lower the satellites' volume while boosting the subwoofer to +2. It’d be awesome to do this with one click instead of manually adjusting everything each time. Hopefully, Yamaha reads this review (given how few there are, it shouldn’t be too hard to find, LOL).

There are other things that can be said about this product, and features that I didn't mention, such as "Clear Voice" and others, but I don't use them, so I can't tell you much about them.
Overall, I think this Yamaha is a solid choice for those looking for something different from the usual brands and bulky design.
Of course, it's not perfect, but for me the pros far outweigh the cons. And its design is just great in my living room, while not intrusive at all.
I hope this personal review is useful for those looking for a different product.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments!

I dislike the Samsung 990D

Edit: regarding the price, I live in Canada and our loonie is weak

Dear diary,

I'm the "electronics" guy of the family, and being that guy I'm not usually a soundbar person at all. But my brother recently moved into his first condo and wasn’t into the bookshelf speakers and subwoofer setups I was showing him. He wanted something that not only delivered big sound but also had that sleek, modern soundbar aesthetic. So, I decided to do some research and check out the top-rated premium soundbars. The Samsung 990D seemed to be the most recommended and popular in this space, so I figured I’d pass along the suggestion. I wasn’t expecting much and I didn't want to do more research than I needed to since I already had a feeling it wouldn't impress and my brother didn't take my serious suggestions seriously so what was the point.

And, unsurprisingly, I was right. When we unboxed it, I found a tiny 7-8 inch subwoofer, surrounds and the soundbar itself. The build quality feels solid, no complaints there, but the sound just didn’t live up to expectations, especially for $1500. It felt pretty weak to me—definitely not the immersive experience I was hoping for. Even the atmospheric claims it makes, I wasn't impressed by that either. I think I played a few atmos demonstration YouTube videos with arrows flying around and shit and it was whatever. A strong 2.1 classic system would have been more impressive let alone a dedicated atmos setup with traditional speakers.

Anyways, it's all your fault soundbar subreddit. I look like the tardo that recommended this trash to him even though I warned him it would disappoint but he thought I'd find some magical soundbar. We grew up with large towers, my dad and uncles had large PA speakers in the basement all our lives. There was no way these little gimmicks would ever compete to what his ears were already accustomed to.

I think this is post worthy because there are people who are going to find themselves in my exact situation, just thought I'd warn you preemptively.

Thanks for listening to my sad story.

Buying used : HW-Q600C (with sub) v/s Polk DBRX1 (38", no sub) v/s HW-B650 (with sub)

My budget is around $120 so I've been looking at used. Came across the above three in this budget and trying to pick one. Don't have the space for rears at the moment so not concerned, even though I love a 5.1.

Setup - Apartment living room with a Samsung 4K (50MU6070) - HDMI ARC.
Primary Usecase - Get the best sound from my Blurays (DD+, DTS X, Atmos?)

Other decent options I came across at <$180 - Sonos Beam Gen 1, LG SP8YA, Bose Smart Soundbar, Polk Magnifi Max SR, Vizio M51AX-J6.

Would love any advice you might have with all the above sound bars. I know I threw a lot of names lol. Thanks :)

Soundbar for 40inch computer monitor

I have been using an LG 42inch C2 as my macbooks primary computer. Also has a PS5, AppleTV, and a decently high end gaming PC. Sound is really garbage out of the TV.

I had 2 of the big homepods with the earc on the appleTV but for like the last 3 months they just have really fallen apart. Just constantly come out of sync or just plays out of one...

So I grab 2020 bose tv speaker I had on a different tv that wasn't getting used much. It sounds better than the TV but lacks the base the HomePods had.. That and I have to choose between the AppleTV and eARC... Which stinks or use optical and each of the devices loose the ability to control audio.

So thoughts...

option 1:
Get the Bose Base Module... seem to run $400.

option 2:
Get some sony, lg, samsung sound bar combo with a sub in that $400 price range.

option 3:
Get a receiver and buy a few speakers... Is there a "soundbar" like setup that you can run off a receiver?

JBL wireless sub compatibility

Hi, hoping someone can answer a question. Until recently, I was using the JBL Bar 1000 with my TV. One day, the bar went completely dead. I replaced the power cord, still dead. It was about 6-7 years old. It seems that's about all you can expect anymore. My question is regarding the JBL subwoofer that came with the Bar. It connects wirelessly, I like the smallish footprint, and the thing really thumps. I'd like to keep it, but I don't know if it would be compatible with a replacement soundbar, including a newer JBL. Does anyone know? Thanks

HDMI sources through Q990D soundbar no longer working?

Hi all, I have a Samsung s90c TV and a Samsung HW-Q990D soundbar connected via eARC. I have 2 devices (xbox series x and nvidia shield pro) connected directly to the 2.1 HDMI Inputs on the soundbar. All HDMI cables are quality/8k high speed versions. I used to be able to use the input source button on the remote or companion app to easily switch HDMI sources between devices - but this no longer works.

I constantly get "HDMI disconnected or no signal" upon switching the HDMI sources. I have to try numerous power cycling of devices to get the HDMI source to recognize the device and finally switch to it. It used to work fine before, has anything changed with the software/firmware support? Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks for any help!

Apple TV audio connection

What is the correct way to connect my Apple TV and my Bose speaker to my Sony TV? For the best audio and video results, should the Bose speaker go via Bluetooth to the Apple TV or connected to the Sony TV? What do you recommend?

No bass and mixed quality depending on movie and streaming platform.

Hi! I just got myself my first soundbar, the Samsung soundbar b660d.

Tried it with my phone through bluetooth, and it sounded great. Then I tried connecting it with my tv, a LG smart TV, with a optical fibre cable. Youtube videos, no problem, sounds great. But later when I was about to watch a movie on another streaming platform, there was no bass and the quality was a bit off.

On Netflix it seemed it to be an issue on different movies, some sounded good, and others lacked in quality. I think it fixed itself when I switched the DTV-soundsettings on the TV, from auto to Dolby Digital Plus on the current movie I was watching. But today when I tried to watch a series on Disney Plus the problem came back, and the previously fix didn't help either.

Is this a thing? Do you have to spend several minutes every time you start watching something to find the right setting? Should I switch to a hdmi 2.1 instead?

I feel like I have tried every setting in both the soundbar and the TV, but can't find a simple solution. I'm not a soundguy, so I'm not quite sure what I'm doing, so please help!

Q-Symphony sync issues with Q999B

When I am using the tv alone, the volume and screen is in sync, when I use the soundbar alone, the volume and screen is also in sync, but when I turn on Q-Symphony, the soundbar and tv become un-sync and the sound echoes.

How do I get the maximum discount on the new Q990F when it is released.

I see a lot of people on here paying £800-£900 for these sound systems straight from Samsung, considering that they’re £1600. Could someone explain how I can get the most money off of this Soundbar. Thanks.

Budget is $400 Deciding between refurb Beam 2 vs Klipsch Flexis Core 200 and JBL BAR 500

Hi everybody. I’m burned out on search for opinions on here so I decided to post.

I have a budget projector from Nexigo with an Apple TV 4K. I also bought a used HD Arcana Fury because I thought I wanted to get a Sonos Arc

I’m primarily going to be watching Formula One, EDM sets on YouTube and foreign movies. I’d love for it to be good with music.

I discovered the klipsch flexus core 200 and it seems cool. Maybe I can get a used sub later. I like the versatility of the jbl as well with access to music apps and room correction. I’ll feel locked in with Sonos.

I live in a one bedroom apartment and the setup will be in the living under a 100 inch projector screen.

I’d appreciate any input because I’d only like to buy once. Thanks in advance! I want to buy this weekend.

Samsung sound bar shows as a paired Bluetooth device ?

I have a Samsung Q6C series soundbar connected to my Samsung TV via eArc. No other devices are connected. When I view my Samsung TV Bluetooth devices it’s showing the Samsung Q6C as a paired Bluetooth device. Is there any reason why my TV is pairing with my soundbar via Bluetooth? Since it’s connected via HDMI , thanks.

No way to turn off digital display?!

Hey all. Just set up a Westinghouse ws152 soundbar. All good except it appears there is no way to turn off the digital led display, so in the dark, its pretty distracting.

Nothing in manual, cant find info online. Wtf?

Seems crazy they didnt think of that, no?

Thanks for any insight! 🙏🏻

Which one should I go for!?

I am confused between Jbl sb271 and Samsung c45e for my tv. My budget is 10-15k INR , main purpose if for watching movies and tv shows and such things. Not much of a music guy. Lmk which one do you prefer and if you have any other alternatives.

And my tv just has optical cable , so can I get Dolby digital with optical cable?
