I'm a beginner I started skateboarding 5 months ago and Im trying to learn how to ollie, I watched so many videos and I just can't seem to get it right. If you have some help please tell me
Hey all,
Truly do not mean to start anything here, just curious to get opinions on something to settle a discussion I had about the 'Girl' skateboards brand. I also want to preface that I know little about skateboard culture and history, I am just getting into it. I understand that one of the co-founders is a woman, and that they have a woman on their team atm.
However, I'm interested to hear what women (and men) have to say about the branding. Personally, (yes I know that this is probably 'too deep' for the counterculture subversiveness of skating), I disagree with a male-dominated company (owned and team) using 'girl' iconography. I feel this way because of:
Some arguments that I've heard and would likely disagree with, without more context:
"it's a product of its time"
"women/female skaters have never raised issue with it"
"skater girls are chill and don't care"
"skating is anti everything, including gender"
"it's that deep" (I could agree with this, but again - I just have an itchy curiosity about what you all think)
"the founders didn't mean it like that/they didn't know/they didn't think about XYZ"
"Girl has given a lot to skateboarding"
"it wouldn't make sense to rebrand so far down the track"
Again, this post is PURELY out of CURIOSITY, I don't mean any hate. Just wanted to test the waters and see what everyone thought :))
I've been thinking about buying a new deck and want to support women in skateboarding. Any recommendations for women owned companies or women's pro decks?
I know this has been asked before, but not recently. I looked into Meow decks, but nothing is catching my eye.
Also open to supporting a women's pro deck but it seems like a lot of skaters don't have one.
I’m a 31-year-old woman and beginner skateboarder, recently moved from the UK to Melbourne, and I’m looking to get a group of women together who are into casual skating and want to practice, have fun, and skate together at local parks—no pressure, just a relaxed vibe.
I’m thinking of starting a WhatsApp group to help coordinate meet-ups. If you’re interested, drop a comment or send me a message, and I’ll add you to the group :-)
Hi!
I used to skate a lot as a kid and I’m trying to get back into it. I’m significantly larger than a typical skater and I’m having trouble finding cute pads that would fit me. Any suggestions from plus size skaters welcome! Thanks in advance ❤️

Hello! Im from Australia and have been travelling around Eastern Europe for the last month and have a couple of weeks left to figure out where to go. Wondering if anyone has recommendations for good skate cities? I love skate parks and I love transition but keen for any kind of skating. So far I have been around Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro and Greece. I packed my board for my trip and am itching for / missing skating! At the moment I'm thinking about Budapest, Prague and considering Munich too, but open to any and all suggestions and also open to meeting skate friends! :)
Or if anyone knows any local girls skate groups or events around these countries
Hii, I’m a beginner adult skater looking for other females to skate with in ATX! I’ve seen older posts, but not sure if any plans went through. I’m still learning, but would love to find ppl to skate with as the weather eventually cools down.
Nearest park to me is Mueller, also down to meet at other locations.
Trying to find Friends
My daughter has been wanting to ride for a bit now, she's 12. She's been having a hard time since the divorce and mom rarely lets her see me. I'm out of state but am in the middle of a 40" pintail build for her.
I have been unable to find anyone there that could give her some private lessons. Can you recommend anyone? Seriously. I would like to find someone who can encourage her to keep focused and push to the best version of herself that I know she wants to by showing her the basics. I also know that, if she really wants to do this, it can be very therapeutic just like surfing and motorcycles have been for me.
I'm trying my best, if any of you could point me towards someone I would really appreciate it. I have tried getting creative and contacted a couple of ladies in the area that had an online presence in skating, no responses yet.
I'm a 14y girl and I really want to improve my skateboarding skills. I can skate easily, that's all, but I can't do any tricks and I'm afraid to try. There's no place to practice tricks where I live, so my only solution is to go to skate parks, but I have my nervousness:
I'm very shy about doing things that have a high chance of failure, so I'm afraid of "locking up" and not being able to do anything because I'm nervous.
I don't know what the skateboarding crowd is like and I don't know if I'll be welcomed and be able to make friends.
I'm VERY afraid of getting in the way, of asking for help.
I get nervous about being judged, afraid of people laughing at me for my mistakes.
This all makes me very nervous and discouraged, can someone tell me about their experience as a beginner?
(I'm using a translator so sorry for the weird words and phrases❗️)
I'm 24 yo with almost non-existent experience of skateboarding. I really want to get into it and finally made a decision to get my first skateboard.
I was wondering about the deck width. My shoe size is 36 which I think is 5,5 in US sizes and 3,5 in UK sizes. I was thinking if there's a big difference between 7,5" and 8,0" decks? Or should I go with something in between?
Obviously it doesn't sound like a big difference but i really don't know which would be better and me trying it doesn't seem to help since I don't really have major preferences yet.
I'd really appreciate advice or tips or hearing about your experiences! Or if you think it doesn't really matter if it's just something between 7,5"-8,25".
I tried to learn 5050 to kick flip today and this is the best attempt that I got.
Any tips or advise would be very very appreciated.
(Keep in mind I have consistent 5050s and consistent kick flips)
Thank you! 🙏
“Skateboarding came into my life because I grew up in downtown Los Angeles. So you have a bunch of bums riding around on skateboards and those are my friends.”
“It wasn't until the Skate Kitchen and there was a group of black women in New York and those are people that I could finally relate to. And I was like, well, I'm going to finally do the thing that I wanted to do that made me really uncomfortable and do it comfortably now with these black women and then it grew from there.”
“I went on a surf retreat recently and you'll be at a table of people talking about their family. ‘This is how I was raised. My mom did this for me. My dad did this for me.’ And I'll just be there, like sitting in my own space. So I don't know. It's just an odd space for me sometimes.”
“I think that's what separates my events. It's a lot of loners, a lot of trans people, a lot of queer people that have been pushed out of their families. And maybe I'm just really stuck in my space and feel really safe there. And I'm scared of opening up in other spaces. But I guess I just need to be more open to being more open and being happy in other spaces.”
“My own events, also a lot of adaptive skaters. People are coming in walkers, deaf, black, queer, trans, women, men, everybody. So that's always like my dreamland. I'm like, whoa, I can't believe that this exists because of me and all of us together. So my dreamland exists already with myself and my community.”

Hey y'all! New here and aspiring skater. Just got my first board but can't seem to find a helmet anywhere that fits my big ass head. Any big headed lady's with good brand/website suggestions? Bonus points if there are cute options! My head is 59/60 cm
