A subreddit about the NVIDIA Shield TV - the world-class premium streamer for gamers running Android TV https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/shield/
The NVIDIA Shield Android TV is a high-powered Android TV device, featuring a Tegra X1 and 3GB of RAM (source) . It comes in two versions - a 16 GB version for $199/£199 and a 500GB version for $299/£299. It can function as a Plex server. The 2017 editions come with an always listening games controller that offers Google Assistant support.
The Shield Android TV supports Youtube, Netflix, Google Assistant, Plex, Kodi (or the optimized SPMC) and many other Android video-streaming apps and games. Many android apps can be successfully sideloaded if not available on the store. It's also compatible with the GeForce Now game streaming, a service from NVIDIA costing $7.99 per month. Samsung SmartThings hub support (using a dongle) is coming.

I recently got a Seagate Expansion 20TB External Hard Drive (USB 3.0) and want to use it as Device Storage for my NVIDIA Shield, but it’s only recognizing it as Removable Storage—even after reformatting it to ExFAT.
Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or how to get it working as Device Storage? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I'm looking for a current time display that will quickly pop up with a click on the remote and then disappear.
Any suggestions?
I don't need the weather, day or date. Just the current tine.
Recently bought a second pro
My first one worked fine I just moved it to my bedroom so I could watch TV and bought a new one for my living room. My issue is, the new one I can't for the life of me get night mode working. The old one it works fine. Which is great! I can now watch TV and not wake up my toddlerin the next room...SCORE! Not awesome that my living room tv now screams at me (in my opinion).
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!? How do I fix the issue that didn't use to be an issue... I can't keep living this life, downstairs is loud enough with a toddler, 3 dogs, cats, and two other adults that don't believe in inside voices... I need some level of sanity back.
Any advice? I have tried everything I found online and it can't be the TV the other one works fine. I would prefer to not have to complain to Nvidia. If all else fails I guess I could just send return it for a replacement.
Signed, One exhausted, overstimulated momma & wife
I have a Shield Pro 2019 I've loved for years. But recently; live TV streaming closes randomly to the home page. I can open them right back up but have to navigate guides to get back to what I was watching.
I had recently switched from YTTV to Hulu and had not had issues on YTTV so I blamed Hulu. Then I switched to Sling only to find the same issue. Thought maybe it was something to do with YTTV having 5.1 so tried all audio settings off and no luck
I've cleared cache, rebooted, cleared storage, complete factory reset. No luck. Speed test from the device consistently gives me around 250mbps up and down.
Made sure I blew the dust out and no luck. I don't really hear the fan running but it doesn't seem hot.
Any ideas? Or is it time for a new device?
HDR not working on YouTube - Nvidia Shield TV 2015...
Has been working for years but as i a few days ago i noticed it isn't working like its not appearing when i click a 4K HDR video it just plays in 2160P 60FPS...
I of course from the provided photos have the connect settings dialed in so am unsure why YouTube isn't working as intended with HDR content...
Netflix and Disney+ both work fine displaying 4K HDR10 content so am so confused...Is YouTube HDR not working for anyone else?
I'm trying to play Fortnite on my Shield using Luna. Connected the controller via bluetooth. Severe lag. I grabbed my adapter from my computer to try to connect it but i cant get it to link. Is there a specific usb adapter to work with Anroid/shield.
I just started using Projectivity Launcher. The reason was I came to a QR code ad on my stock launcher and that is a no go for me. I really like the clean look but I am having trouble getting my Fotoo screen saver to work. If I turn on the idle time in the Projectivity settings, the screensaver will kick on in that time regardless if I am currently watching something or not. The screensaver worked as intended before using Projectivity. I can stop using the screensaver from Fotoo but I really like it. Can anyone help me out?
I am replacing an older Shield with a Pro version. The Pro has been reset. The older shield will eventually be used elsewhere, likely with the same apps. With that in mind, is it necessary or advisable to reset it?
Why doesn’t Apple TV ever work on the shield. The frame rate always shutters even when using match frame rate and frame rate apps. It’s the only app on my shield that doesn’t work because of frame rate issues. Anyone else have a fix?

I have a 1st. gen (2015, L380287 model) NVidia Shield TV that cannot use (psu dead) with 2 controllers/gamepads, one that came in the box and other bought separately. Model 945-12920-2500-000
I'd like to know if it would be possible to use or pair these gamepads with my TCL Google TV. Should I buy a bluetooth adapter for my TV?
Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks
Nvidia Shield TV Pro, using an “ONN” brand remote and I want to change the volume of my actual Samsung TV. How can I do this?
Hello, just bought a Nvidia Shield Pro and everything seems to work fine (small bits of lags when loading on 4K films) however I’m having persistent issues with Google Play crashing whenever I scroll too fast through the play store or try typing etc. It force shuts and reboots the whole Shield.
Anyone else have this issue? I tried clear cache/clear data/force shut/uninstall updates on Google Play Services and even did a factory reset of the Shield but didn’t work.
I have a:
2019 Shield Pro.
Western digital passport 4TB.
(Format exFAT, drive verified)
I have reset Plex several times but It never sees the HD on start up as an option to add it.
I've had it running on Plex / Shield once with a 590GB HD formatted Mac OS extended. I was surprised it worked. However this was a one off and I have been able to do it again. It set up just like on the videos. I've tried Mac OS extended again in the new drive and it still didn't work.
I want to add the HD to Plex, then unmount it then add Media from my Mac onto the Nvidia folder on the HD
I have existing servers that are now redundant. I have cleared library folders on my Mac but they still show up when activating Plex on Shield but no HD? I don't want to select them.
I think I'm missing some stages on the server side before going into Shield. The tutorials just show the Shield set up and make it look seemless.
I've tried to manually add the HD to no avail. Shield does see it but integrating into Plex has not been successful.
I've reinstalled Plex. Factory re-set shield. Diagnosed the HD. I've been tooling around in preferences. Restarted to outer which is set up to DHCP to Shield.
The new HD worked once but then I plugged it back into my Shield after adding media and it didn't see it anymore.
I'm thinking of opening a new Plex account to start fresh.
I'd also prefer to use another faster format other than exFAT.
The main thing is getting the dang HD recognized and set up because pizza night is coming.
I've spent hours on this and would love some clear guidance to get it going.
Please let me know if I've missed out anything. Thanks.
I was thinking about getting a second shield for a bedroom TV. My only concern was would the remotes turn the other shields on by accident?
I wanted to report on Nvidia Shield 2019. I see a lot of complaints here on Reddit about locking; don't do this, run that. Nvidia Shield is the best box on the market, running all codecs except AV1. Most of the films are HEVC. The first thing to do is keep the Shield clean; every six months, change the thermal paste. I'm using Snowdog. Change Project Ivy's original launcher and be happy
Does anyone have problems with the YouTube app on their Shield? Mine is a 2019 model and YouTube is a constant pain in my butt. Ok one day, then the next day I go to play a video, it has the spinning buffer wheel and won't play anything, just one little blip at the start of a video then freezes. Only thing to sort it is a reboot of the Shield.
Also, my skip buttons have vanished from the YouTube app so if I want to skip a song in a playlist, I now can't.
Anyone have any idea why the sensitivity with my remote has gotten so bad basically overnight? I literally have to yell at it for it to hear anything. I've rebooted the Shield. Replaced the batteries. Cleared the cache for the Bluetooth. Nothing seems to work. The remote still looks brand new, so it's not dirty or clogged up in the mic hole. The Google assistant barely hears me and it does the same while searching Youtube.
why most movies (disney+ and stremio), do not allow me to activate upscaling? "upscaling not necessary" despite being in low quality
Ive put together a list of apps anyone wanting to remove or disable via ADB
Some apps in the list can be disabled in the apps menu in settings
And this will one off the apps (don't ask which one) will disable the Netflix button as well on the remote
This was tested successfully' on the 2019 Pro with the current hot-fix
Older variants should be able to get most removed/disabled (Use at your own risk tho with older shields)

Tonight my home button defaults to the stock page. I have the Projectivy home page forced setting ticked but it doesn't seem to work. Something sure changed. Now I have all the crap show advertisements.
Shield 11, Android TV 9.1.1, Projectivy 4.5.4
Any suggestions?
Help! It should be a top level option.
I have 1080p and 720p movies on multiple external hard drives. Most just downloaded movies, nothing fancy. Trying to find the easiest solution to be able to browse among them with the files represented as poster art and movie description.
No streaming, only will watch from 1 location (living room). Being older than most of you guys here I prefer not setting up a server or anything complicated. Would like something with decent or snappy speed in searching/browsing and display.
I have some movies that include subtitles but not a deal breaker for me either way. I only use regular, fairly new Samsung tv speakers so no special sound requirements.
I have just purchased an Nvidia Shield Pro and BeeLink Mini PC EQ14 w/ N150 cpu. Not sure which to use or use both together or return one of them. Will the mini pc be useful to me in the living room for anything if you feel it’s not needed for my scenario? Possibly browsing internet w/ TV display w/ wireless keyboard/mouse? Or playing movies the Shield may not?
I’m open to almost anything that is easy for me and my wife (no kids) to use. Easy is the key. Don’t mind buying more or different equipment but I do NOT want a NAS.
What is the best software/app to watch movies? I’ve tried Kodi on my Windows pc a few years back and no real problems although it seems overly complicated. I wonder if there is a simpler version of Kodi for my needs? Best Kodi skin? I see many people suggest Nova Video Player, Vimu Media Player and Just Player. Someone mentioned using Kodi in “Kiosk mode”? Will these apps recognize and catalog from multiple locations (hd’s).
Most Important: My wife is not going to allow me to buy more stuff after media setup so don’t tell me to return mini pc if good uses for it regardless and what other not-so-expensive items can I kinda throw in this package for fun and make it a justifiable purchase?
Thanks everyone for your knowledge, experience, help and suggestions.
Hi Everyone, this is driving me crazy. I have a bunch of 4k remux movie in my Plex library. I put my media server on Shield TV pro and had a lot of issue playing True HD 7.1 sound tracks (DTS MA is fine). My setup is shield connect to TV HDMI port 1, and soundbar connect to TV through eArc port. At first, after reading lots of post, I thought it is a software issue related to the exoplayer. However, after I replaced the HDMI cable (high speed) with Ultra High Speed HDMI cable, the movie will play through with dolby atomos without dropping any sound only if I play the movie from the begining. The problem is if I fast foward or resume in the middle, the issue comes back. The sound drops every few minutes(mute) and then just come back in sync with the video. I am trying to figure out what causes this but haven't got any luck yet. Just wondering if everyone else has similar problems with TrueHD atomos content.
Thanks(
Edit: System setup is Shield connect to TV through HDMI Port (Ultra high speed HDMI cable), Bose Soundbar 600 connected to TV through eARC.
VLC has no issues.
The movie I am having issues so far is The Passenger (2016)
Forrest Gump has no issue at all less issue
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl has issues
Da Vinci Code has issues
Edit 2: Tried to disable "Advanced -> H264 Maximum Level" doesn't work.
One more thing worth to mention, on my Bose App, when the movie playing normally, the apps shows the bar is playing "Digital Atomos", whenever it muted, it shows "LCM 2.0". Not sure if this would help to solve the mystery.
Edit 3: Just a final notes for the fellows who might come pass the same issue. I end up using Plex for Kodi to solve the problem. The look is fine (I acutally like it better than PLEX native UI). Fast forward, resume, pause, with no issues so far. TV passing through trueHD atomos, the sound bar sounds better (I felt). But anyway, thanks everyone. I think this conclude that this is a issue with the player used in Plex for android TV.
I can still use plex if I restrain myself to fast forward boring scenes, but it is hard to sit contiously for 2 hours without stopping while have a kid in the house.
Thank you all, wish you all the luck!
Trying to figure out what the "internal" path is to external storage. When I connect to my Shield via smb (from Linux client) I'm seeing this:
smb://user@xxx.xxx.x.xx/SanDisk SD card/
Is the internal path to the external card "/SanDisk SD Card", if I'm trying to have Kodi use the card as a path, am I setting the path according to usual Linux principals (/SanDisk\ SD\ Card)?
Since the last update, Plex doesn't show any new files. I can see them on SMB, they are in the correct folders, but Plex itself doesn't show them. Anyone? any ideas?
