A subreddit about the NVIDIA Shield TV - the world-class premium streamer for gamers running Android TV https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/shield/
The NVIDIA Shield Android TV is a high-powered Android TV device, featuring a Tegra X1 and 3GB of RAM (source) . It comes in two versions - a 16 GB version for $199/£199 and a 500GB version for $299/£299. It can function as a Plex server. The 2017 editions come with an always listening games controller that offers Google Assistant support.
The Shield Android TV supports Youtube, Netflix, Google Assistant, Plex, Kodi (or the optimized SPMC) and many other Android video-streaming apps and games. Many android apps can be successfully sideloaded if not available on the store. It's also compatible with the GeForce Now game streaming, a service from NVIDIA costing $7.99 per month. Samsung SmartThings hub support (using a dongle) is coming.

Anyone notice Google doing some weird stuff recently?
I use ATV to avoid the Google homepage. Also turned off the "Google microphone" as I notice it started popping up randomly "listening to requests" I never made. Now it's popping up mid movie suggesting I turn on the mic.
I've blocked a couple more Google apps. Hopefully I've killed it off, but anyone getting a similar experience and also figured out exactly which apps need killing off?
As topic says, if I plug in one of those cheap USB-powered Blu-Ray drives and insert a BD-R disc with MP4-files written in data mode, will Nvidia Shield Pro TV be able to recognize that drive and also play those MP4-files in for example VLC player? Basically as if they were on a USB jump drive.
Wondering is anyone here with a LG tv using the Shield. I need to be able to long press magic remote to access certain things on Kodi such as information, add to favorites etc, now I have to use shield remote to do it but before I bought a new LG I was able to do it, I bought the new tv about the same thing as the shield update so I don’t know if it’s a lg remote issue or the upgrade issue, any help would be appreciated
Hi, I recently bought shield to upgrade my setup.
I am quite happy from capabilities (built-in plex server and AI upscaler)
But, It feels sluggish specially when transferring files over network.
I was looking for alternatives and found Dune HD. It is similarly priced but has additional capabilities (sata 2.5 port) more RAM and better wifi (Shield don't use full network even though it has full signal).
What do you think? Is it worth change or I won't notice anything?
Hi
This link seems to say I should be able to dload the ITVX app - but I can't find it - Which games consoles are supported?
Anybody got an idiots guide to adding it to my shield pro ?
It's not showing in the playstore - btw I have 2 x 2015 pros with 500 gb.
Hi, my download is slow on my Shield via Ethernet compared to the Gigabit plan I'm on.
When I go into the network & Internet, I can see Ethernet is connected and the link speed is 1000 Mbps.
When I go to do a speed test, I'm getting about 90 Mbps, other devices connected via Lan are getting about 950 Mbps. I'm running it through a network switch, the switch as the green light indicating 1000.
Anyone experienced the same issue and if so how did you fix it.
I don't think it could be the cable, as the link speed wouldn't be showing 1000.
Hi all, I'm trying to find a fix for a problem. I have my shield pro hooked up to my new monitor. A beautiful 4k 240hz curved Samsung. The problem I'm running into is my previous monitor had speakers, I then added a sound bar. The setup was shield HDMI to monitor, monitor HDMI to sound bar. It worked with ARC and CEC. The sound bar isn't found in the code list for the shield IR so that is why I had to go that way. But this new monitor only has a 3.5mm audio out. I was looking at getting an HDMI audio extractor and then hooking it up that way. But I can't find anything really saying if ARC or CEC will work that way. (From reading I believe CEC is in like every HDMI device. Anybody have a bright idea on how I could solve this? If I had an optic out on the shield I would just buy a better soundbar that had an IR code that worked, but I still want it 20in or smaller. Or if I have to buy an HDMI audio extractor I want to be able to use the same soundbar. I really don't want to have to buy both. Any bright ideas? Thanks, Spiz
Good evening all,
I am giving a family friend a Nivida Sheila with kodi. They are not technically savvy and I know I will need to update the kodi addons and premium providers (debrid), skins ect.
How can I remote access the shield so I can update form the comfort of my home?
Thanks.
I know the remote losing contact with the box was an issue a while ago, but thought it was fixed with a past update as I have had no such issues in a long time. But the last few days, the remote keeps bricking. I put brand new Duracells in it, but that did nothing. The only way I seem to be able to get it back on track is by pulling the power plug and rebooting. I've had it since it came out in 2019, and love the performance of the box, but my remote constantly bricking is getting to be a bit much. Any new ideas on fixing this?
Happy to report the issues I was having with bad Bluetooth connectivity between my Shield and Xbox controller was completely fixed with the 8bitdo usb adapter! All the other posts on here about it said it wouldn’t be possible to ensure the controller connected to the adapter but you can pair the controller with the adapter only and not the Shield itself. Tested to make sure but sure enough when I unplug the adapter the controller dc’s and reconnects after I plug it back in
Rip No sale in the US
Hello!
After years of suffering with a xiaomi box i can finally afford the nvidia shield pro, but i have some doubts/questions.
- I will use it only for streaming, im not interested in its gaming capabilities, is it still the best option out there, specially considering black friday 184Euro ?
- I use a vpn, and on the xiaomi i go from a 500mb speed to a painful 5mb, 6mb. This is without a doubt due to the very bad cpu that the xiaomi has, and i saw some videos that the nvidia can handle the VPN much better, this is true right ?
Thank you in advance !
Just turned on my Shield to find Amazon Music app had enabled itself.
Anyone had an app do those before?
Hey everyone,
I'm going to buy my first TV streamer, and I would like your help to understand if I'm making the right choice.
TL;DR:
I want a streamer with Google Play + playing casual Steam games with 2-4 controllers, preferably without the need to stream my PC to the TV.
I have a few casual multiplayer games on Steam that I would like to be able to play at my living room with some friends (none of those use heavy graphics).
In addition, I want to have a streamer with Google Play store, so I can use some TV providers' apps and Plex.
If i understood correctly, I can use the free membership of Nvidia GeForce Now with games I purchased on Steam already, which will enable me to play on the TV locally, without the need to stream my PC to the TV.
Do I link the controllers to the streamer directly?
And one last question: do I really need to buy Nvidia Shield (which is a bit pricey), or is there any decent on-budget streamer that will allow me to do the same?
Hi!
Started using Smarttube and basically, if I stop watching a video, I'll see the red line showing where I was on the thumbnail, but it will always start from the beginning once I click on it.
Does anyone knows if it's a bug or not a feature?
For as long as I’ve had the Shield Pro I’ve used Kodi and went through the Kodi interface and used SMB shares to load content from my NAS. It’s always worked pretty well with up to 4K HDR rips playing just fine. DVD’s ripped as ISO’s have had issues before with how the picture was displayed and slight jerking with pans. For the most part shutting off hardware acceleration in Kodi settings seemed to make it better but it’s hit and miss with image quality which now seems to be also a function of the care taken in the original transfer. Anyway, I was poking around in Shields settings and realized I could direct connect to my NAS over the lan. So I did! I haven’t played with it to actually stream content to the 4K UHDTV but I did notice Kodi auto mounted all my directories from the NAS. Some of which I’d rather keep private. I guess I can remove that source from the Kodi interface if I want. And the NAS ended up with a PLEX directory on it I assume for data. Haven’t used Plex for years!! So I’m wondering which might be a better connection for streaming? Kodi SMB shares or Shield direct connection. And what are others using.
Bonus question - And anyone have any setting tips for DVD 📀 playback?
Here is my set up: LG OLED TV, NVidia Sheild tube, Sonos sound bar. I recently subscriber to Jellyfin, when I first installed it, it appeared to work fine. The next day I went to watch a movie on Jellyfin and it crashed just as I got the homepage "splash screen". I tried several more times and got the same result. Jellyfinn crashes 1 second after the home page is displayed. I un-installed Jellyfin, rebooted the Shield. The re-installed Jellyfin. I get the same result. Next, I went and cleared cache and data in the app.
Same result.
Anybody have any ideas why Jellyfin keeps crashing on my Nvidia Shield tube???
My one month old Shield Pro (2019) keeps crashing at least once per session during video playback. I’ve read some other uses having this issue… HDMI is brand new too. I’m on latest hotfix and have the shield plugged to the soundbar. What could be happening?
Edit: not brand new, bought second hand. Bought from a trusted party who never used it before
Does anyone else have an issue where a tv show or movie will be interrupted by the input flashing on the screen? I reduced it by disabling CEC, but couldn’t eliminate it. It impacts both streaming apps and local Plex.
I also have a Marantz Receiver in the path between my Shield and a Sony x950G.
Hi,
I have had a Shield for a while. I stream movies from my Synology NAS using DS Video app. And use apps like Prime and Iplayer. It used to work fine. But recently many files are not playing properly when I stream from my NAS using DS video - the sound comes on but the screen stays blank. These files used to play fine. And they still play fine when I use a different app like VLC player.
Movies on Amazon Prime won't play anymore (used to be fine too), I just get error messages. But I can browse the app fine. Yet iPlayer and youtube works fine.
When I use apps like ITVX the stream plays fine for 10 minutes then freezes and will not start again unless I restart the app, then it works fine again straight away until it happens again in 15 mins of so.
I thought this may be the connection, but I got a speedtest app and it is solid at hundreds of MBPs. (I have Gig WAN into the house and a bit less around it). I am connected via ethernet but via powerlines (as mentioned always used to work fine). I have ordered new Cat8 cables anyway.
Could it be the HDMI cable? Clutching at straws here.
Any other ideas?
Many thanks
EDIT: Should have mentioned - apps are all up to date on Shield and NAS
Hey so I just bought a shield pro and I was thinking about downloading some movies/shows and making my own library so I can’t lose the content with the recent ups and downs. What specs should I look for other than the size of the disk.
Wow... Im gushing my pants...
I bought this marvel for 1200DKK (170 USD) yesterday. 3 months Ultimate Now included.
After some initial setup and a few reboots i put Leviathan (1989) on through Plex, which ive watched hundreds of times.
Holy christ in heaven the upscaling is wonderful, i could read notes in the background!.. in the background!!
I honestly got a whole new experience of the movie. I am SO glad i chose this over Streamer TV.
Ok im out, gonna go through cream through my 720-1080p library!
I've purchased GTA 3 and I can play it on my phone and tablet but when I search for GTA or even the word grand on my Shield, nothing comes up. Is it a Google TV issue?
I have an Nvidia Shield Pro and the Bluetooth sucks to play with any gaming controller that uses bluetooth. Given that the Pro version have USBs I was wondering if if exists any way to improve the connection. All dongles I find are only for Windows...
I bought the Shield TV Pro over the Apple TV 4k just because it support the AI Enhancement. For a couple of weeks it just stopped working. It always says „AI-Enhanced not active: unsupported content“. It used to work for every video on YouTube, now none work anymore :(
SOLUTION: a reboot did work!
I was wondering if there was a way to listen to a spotify playlist on my shield pro while also opening up a video on youtube to let's say, watch a fireplace. My old Xbox was able to do this, but somehow, the spotify music stops as soon as the youtube video starts.
thanks
