A subreddit about the NVIDIA Shield TV - the world-class premium streamer for gamers running Android TV https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/shield/
The NVIDIA Shield Android TV is a high-powered Android TV device, featuring a Tegra X1 and 3GB of RAM (source) . It comes in two versions - a 16 GB version for $199/£199 and a 500GB version for $299/£299. It can function as a Plex server. The 2017 editions come with an always listening games controller that offers Google Assistant support.
The Shield Android TV supports Youtube, Netflix, Google Assistant, Plex, Kodi (or the optimized SPMC) and many other Android video-streaming apps and games. Many android apps can be successfully sideloaded if not available on the store. It's also compatible with the GeForce Now game streaming, a service from NVIDIA costing $7.99 per month. Samsung SmartThings hub support (using a dongle) is coming.

I’m trying to figure out the best approach for configuring a Samsung S90D TV with a Samsung 930C soundbar system with the Shield 2019 Pro. Noting that the S90D doesn’t support DV, but that it supports DVR10, would there be a noticeable difference in video quality or sound quality going with the newer Google Steamer? Would the S90D’s upscaling replace the Nvidia Shield Pro’s upscaling?
I appreciate any suggestions....
Had to reset my Shield, and I'm sorry but as much as I like it, it's unusable with the Netflix button. I don't remember what I used before to disable it.
Button Mapper is telling me that remapping the Netflix Button is a paid feature only now? Is there anyway to disable it on my $200 device without paying more?
Spent countless hours futzing around with my TV's (tcl r646) internal apps and the new Google streamer and man they are still complete trash compared to the Shield I just bought.
This is the only thing I can get to play all the files I want, output Atmos (I only have a 5.1 leave me alone it still sounds better), up mix stereo to 5.1 etc etc.
Anyone on the fence just pay the extra cash, maybe wait till black Friday. Not even a gamer or Plex user, just stremio and occasional video file from storage and still this thing is dramatically better than the Google streamer.
Please tech companies, make another premium product I will pay for it.
Hello, i know some here use it. But i cant play 192/24 files at all. They just crackle. How do ypu configure so it plays 192/24 files, both from home server or Qobuz?
I use an Studio Interface ä, Antelope orion studio synergy core. I can play all way up tp 96khz but then it crackle gets distorted. I haven't found any settings that take it away, No high buffer help, no high cache help. Do they (uapp developers) need to look at it, because it annoys me. Thaks in advance
Hello, I recently purchased the Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X headphones after receiving a lot of recommendations. However, I’ve just realized that neither my OLED TV nor my Nvidia Shield Pro has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Would a simple USB-to-3.5mm adapter work, or is there another adapter I should buy to avoid any loss in audio quality? Thank you for your help!
PS: Audio quality-wise, I would have preferred the Bose QC, but do you think the lag would be too noticeable for activities like watching movies or casual gaming?
I’m aware that at one point you could sideload the Apple Music APK and get lossless audio but it looks like that was lost at some point. I’m trying to figure out a solution for my dad who has incredible sound systems but just streams Pandora all day.
Strange behavior recently with Shield Pro 2019, recently upgraded to new receiver and now when I turn off all devices (TV, receiver, etc) , the shield (which I was not using and was off) just turns on …. It’s not turning back my tv back and will eventually will turn off but would like to fix the issue.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Just reset my shield after 4 years and I'm having trouble with energy optimisation. Which ever app I turn off for energy optimisation, turns back on after a restart of the device. Anyone else come across this problem?
I have a samsung qn75q60rafxza 75” 4k tv(with ARC) paired up with a Samsung HW K-550(with ARC) and just bought an NVIDIA shield tv pro that allows for 4k 60hz. Starting off with the shield>>soundbar(arc)>>then tv(arc) and for whatever reason is only displaying 4k @ 30hz. At first I had it plugged in a different order which allowed 4k 60hz but no audio was coming through no matter the tvs settings or shields audio settings; the order being shield>>tv>>soundbar. I would love to make use of arc and it’s audio instead of optical but from what I understand from hours of research is that ARC allows for 4k @ 60hz and I switched out the spare cable with a cable I know can transmit 4k @60hz in the shield>>tv>>soundbar order it still displays 4k@30hz. Any advice would be great
Edit: read through the community thing saying I must have a HDMI bottleneck which might be causing 30hz but then would that mean the cable that came with shield only allows for 30hz since I switched my spare HDMI with a capable one?
I thought I could do this via retroarch but according to the responses i've gotten over on that sub - i cannot do that.
Does anyone out there have another solution?
I'm sure this has being noted before but I thought I'd share a tip about frame rate matching being more likely to work. If you activate frame rate matching it usually only works about 60% of the time. But for the times it doesn't work and looks stuttery if you quickly pause the video for half a second then play it again it works 100% of the time for me
Black Friday deals.. Looking for a 2tb external storage device. Any recommendations? Tia... Foo
Edit UK based
I filled in my s/n, that's all there was to it. Two days later I'm not getting the update. is there any way to force it? Thanks
Help!? My shield tends to freeze with a buzzing sound any thoughts on the cause? I've made some adjustments just recently factory reset the the device. The software is up to date.
I don't recall doing any updates. two days ago I played saved by the bell to show my partner and after that... it hasn't worked ever since.
I tried the apk and the playstore.
What I find really odd is it will show whatever video i try playing, as in box art then it goes black and shows android and bypasses project tv boot.
Really want to pick up a shield pro this holiday season.
Any Black Friday deals floating around ?
2019 shield pro, split tunnel VPN.
The VPN app allows apps (netflix, prime, etc) to be launched from the VPN's main screen, and it's working.
Q: Do I have to launch the app this way? If I launch the app through Shield's main screen, will it run through the VPN too?
Hello!
I switched from Apple TV to nvidea shield and noticed it’s more prone to Oled burn in. I had to adjust settings at one point with Apple so that the non-movie scenes were non hdr and it helped minimize burn in…I don’t see an option for that with shield…is there a setting I can do to help reduce burn in or have non movie media like the apps screen come in non hdr ty setting? Or anything else there might be in this eco system I’m not aware of to suit my purposes.
When I click on it in settings, there's no toggle or anything. It just closes the settings menu. So I have no way of knowing if the setting is activated or not.
Either way, it appears to be making no difference. I'm still getting stuttering on this 25fps video. But I'd at least like to be able to tell if the setting is even turned on.
I have an IPTV subscription using a NVidia Shield box to watch it. I would like to feed two TVs at the same time with the same IPTV signal. I don't have an HDMI splitter but I found a Chromecast model# NC2-6A5 (2n gen ?). The TVs would be next to each other, so not running long cables, I just want to test which TV I like best for picture and sound by putting them side by side then will remove that set up. I'm not expert in any of the above mentioned systems, just a regular end user. Thanks in advance for the help.
Am I better off installing apps through AppStore or sideloaded? I’m in UK so looking at UK apps specifically and think I heard there are some limitations to the AppStore apps but could be wrong? Thanks
This has been going on a very long time, at least since the major update that added the commercials. I really need to solve this PITA
This is happening on 5 separate devices that are far enough away that they should not be Bluetooth talking to each other's remotes (2 in a separate house). I have reset these countless of times, changed/removed storage devices/USB sticks, bought new remotes, used no remotes (phone app), used alternative UIs... I'm running out of ideas.
Trigger: At some point, either the Netflix button gets hit, or someone watches Netflix from selecting the app. It doesn't always trigger the bug, but the bug seems to require that the app has to launch (ie, if I can get the app closed the bug won't happen again until the app launches).
Effect: Netflix refuses to close. Any attempt will result in Netflix launching again. Sometimes, you can still turn off the TV, but others, the app will launch anyway and turn the TV back on.
Current Solution: Power Cycle (unplug it). I have been putting home automated plugs on them so I can stop climbing behind the TV looking for plugs. UNACCEPTABLE
Please tell me that someone has figured this annoyance out. It's driving me nuts.
I'm having a weird problem with my shield that started a few days ago. After I come home from work and I want to watch something on plex, I hit the home button on the remote and notice nothing happens at all. I look behind the TV and notice the green light on the shield is off. I unplug and then plug it back in and it's fine. It doesn't shut off or anything while I watch shows/movies. I dusted it out to make sure it wasn't that but it seems to only happen after not having it on that input for a few hours.
This has never happened before. My set up is, shield plugs in to hue sync box. It's in the 4th port. Sync box then goes to TV. Tried changing hdmi cables. Didn't work but what seems weird is the box shuts off so that kinda rules hdmi out. I do have cec on but never had an issue with this before. I'm using an lg c3 oled. Tv just had an update recently and never noticed this before that.
Is anyone noticing this lately?
In sure I saw this is now available about a month ago but noting appearing in playstore yet.
Title says it all but I just wanna play gears and don't have any pc or Xbox. I'm confused by GFN. Do I need to pay for GFN and Xbox game pass?
After syncing my fire stick remote to my shield, it stops working after sleep and must be repaired.
Any ideas?
Hello everyone I could use some help with my TV/soundbar/gaming network setup. I own a Hisense U8N TV with eARC capability, a PS5 Pro, a 2019 Shield Pro, and a Samsung HW-Q990D sound bar that has eARC capability and 2.1 HDMI ports.
I’m not sure how to set my system up. I’m assuming I plug the soundbar into the TV via eARC right? I’m not sure then if I need to plug the shield into the sound bar or the TV to ensure I can watch movies with Dolby vision/atmos. And what about the PS5? Do I plug that into the TV or the sound bar?
Thanks so much for your help!
So I thought Id clean my shields and reapply thermal paste as I've never done either. Did the 2017 no problem. 2019 I go to pop the wire off and off comes the connector with it.
Where can I buy a new female surface mount connector to solder back onto the board as mine is now mangled? Or is there a way to add a usb bluetooth dongle to the shield?
I recently swapped out thermal paste in a laptop for this. It's kind of incredible. The initial temps are actually hotter, but as it melts (phase change), the overall temps are better. And it is supposed to never dry out or crack. And be the best solution for laptops, projectors, small chips, etc.
I feel like this would be an interesting prospect. I don't have my shield anymore but I'd be interested if I got one again. I'd probably give it a go. It seems like a lot of people have issues now and again with a little bit of lag or this and that, and I'm wondering if it's not just old cracked thermal paste because the device is now five years old. Is there a way to test temps? Terminal?
I'm wondering if an awesome thermal pad like this might fix all performance issues because perhaps....my theory is that maybe a lot of people are just having thermal throttling due to old paste. Just a thought I had. What if new thermal interface brought it back to the speeds of day 1? Linus tech tips loved this thing. I do too. If it's that good for laptops it's gotta be pretty good for the shield.
