Discussion on BBC's Sherlock
This subreddit is for discussions on Sherlock, a British television series that was created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.
Be civil. Moriarty loves chaos, but we don’t. Disagree respectfully—no abuse, harassment, or targeted attacks.
Stay on-topic. Mrs. Hudson doesn't like a mess. Keep on track—this subreddit is only for the BBC Sherlock series, and discussions surrounding it.
No self-promotion, links to unofficial merchandise, or other spam. John keeps Sherlock from chasing shady leads. Let's follow his example—no self-promotion or unofficial merchandise.
No discussion of piracy or circumventing DRM. In season 2, Mycroft says that Sherlock wanted to be a pirate when he was younger. Of course, this doesn't mean you should pirate Sherlock. Just a little fact for you.
Artistic drawings and images must be credited. Lestrade takes credit for Sherlock's brilliance. Don't be Lestrade—credit the artists.
No AI-generated art. Much like Anderson's theories, AI-generated art has no place here.
No JohnLock or fanfiction. Save your fanfiction for another case file. Please post all fanfiction/Johnlock content within either the fanfiction megathread, the fanfiction subreddit, or the Johnlock subreddit.
We allow free discussion of all events within Sherlock. Browsing this subreddit without having completed the show could result in spoilers.
Of course, we hope that you use respect and common sense. If a user specifically mentions that they have not completed the series, it is a common courtesy to avoid spoiling them.
If you do need to mark something as a spoiler for any reason, please use the spoiler format:

So, I'm rewatching Sherlock and I was just thinking... how cool would it have been (obviously not for continuation purposes) if Sherlock just shot M in the face when he made his fake surprise face at the end of season 1. Who cares, make another bad guy, dudes one of a kind he has no successor and u know just... jump in the hallway to the left and pray the bomb doesn't blow. Idk I loved the series but damn it would have been great.
Does anyone actually rate House as smarter?
Tonight i dreamt the entire Sherlock season 5, a full serie of 4 episodes which included a special.
I want to start by saying that i never experienced such a long lasting dream in my life and i’m unsure of the reason why my night working brain invented this story, considering the fact that i finished the show in 2019 and never watched it since.
One thing i know is that it was amazing, full of dark tales and insights about the main characters, a new challenge, climaxed in a final episode that is worthy of a masterpiece, trUly spellbinding.
I’m not here to sell anything, i really don’t know why all this happened to me, if someone is interested i’ll be happy to share it.
I’m making a video to show my friend to convince her to watch it. Best can mean funny, confusing, just completely random, etc
I genuinely can not believe it’s so old. I just watched it in 2023.
I opened up my old iPhone and found this app still downloaded on it. If you don’t recognize it, it’s an old BBC Sherlock game they made when the earlier show was still airing and you play as part of Sherlock’s homeless network.
It’s heavily puzzle based and you help him unscramble and decode stuff! The best part is that it has actual in-character videos filmed by the cast so its essentially brand new footage of Benedict, Martin & Mark if you haven’t see it before, they’re actually so cool cause you feel like they’re speaking to you. I really recommend checking YouTube for the full gameplay and extra scenes!
It was really fun and was shut down YEARSSS ago at this point. Only two cases were available for free but I actually randomly decided to buy them and see if it worked and IT DID and charged me for real lmaoooo. but I actually had a blast finishing it!! I even posted it on tumblr and people keep messaging me asking how I got it and all I can say is I was a huge stan at 15 😅 Anyone else have any fun memories of playing?
Just seems like a way to show him being a stickler for grammar more than anything. Complete out of character moment and seems like a waste of budget/writing copout. From what we know of Sherlock he'd be like "ah beat his gf to death, OBVIOUS. Now get out Watson I need to BEAT something else while watching saliva coagulate" the second he hears of the "case".
To say nothing of the fact that Sherlock caring about grammar is weird next to him not even giving a shit how space works. You would think someone with his keenness for social dynamics would rejoice in the fact that people of certain backgrounds have different ideas about how language should be spoken, handily stratifying themselves and reducing his brain overhead. Writers from this time really just twisted and turvied autism based on what they thought would tickle the tumblr simps huh
I haven't checked, but from what I know, this episode is one of the lowest rated in the fandom; but I'm going to go ahead and detail my thoughts about an annoying plot detail that just distracted me. It popped into my head when I was watching, and I couldn't stop thinking about it.
How does Eurus get Trevor/Red Beard to the bottom of the well?
So, we can assume that just like Watson, he was chained. First off, why isn't he half dead? If she pushed him down, he'd be either unconscious, screaming in pain, or dead. At the very least covered in blood. Moving on: how in the world did she manage to get him chained up, and then get herself out again? If she chained his leg up, did she have a rope she could climb back up? Or maybe she held a rope while Trevor climbed down, and she tricked him into going down there, and then chaining his leg up, and then got him to throw the key up to her. Very convoluted!
Same applies to Watson to a certain extent.
Maybe there was a door or a pipe that led to the well from somewhere? And Trevor had to be chained up, because he'd at least attempt to climb up the side of the well! Unless his legs were broken, and that wasn't shown.
...and realised that his cloak has what's effectively a permanent popped collar.
Hilarious.
Whose gun is that that Sherlock's waving around while performing the monologue from Henry V?
Presumably SH could get a gun reasonably easily through his myriad questionable connections, but before this he's always getting John to bring his gun or bringing it for him.
Just wondering if he's somehow still got John's gun (that John should probably really not have either realistically but eh let's suspend disbelief for a bit of plot related fun eh).
Edit: for anyone that knows little about the UK (so probably no one here!) it is really NOT common to own a gun here, unless you're a farmer or something. The vast majority of police don't even use guns and I very much doubt that ex-military types like John are allowed to just fuck off with a weapon these days lol.
Hi. Thank you for reading. I'm in a rabbit hole again looking for a fanfic I lost years ago and it really was excellent. I never found it again. I ask for your help please.
The fanfic was about Sherlock and John's friend relationship was broken, John moved to live with Mary ( obviously) but Sherlock was ill. I don't really remember if Sherlock was trying or not to hide from John that he was sick, but the fact is that he was no longer living with him at 221b Street. The point of all this is that Mary was mean ( not nice at all ), she really put a face on John and with Sherlock, she treated him super bad and tried to keep him away from John as much as possible. I think at one point Sherlock is so sick that he seeks out John (I don't know if it's for diagnosis or what). I just remember it was a bit of a long fanfic, but for some reason it got lost on me.
What I do remember was my desperation for John to realize that Sherlock was sick. I seem to remember that every time Sherlock tried to contact John, either Sherlock ignored him or John was busy or Mary tried to divert him. The point is that Sherlock really was sick but I didn't quite know from what (I didn't get that far into the chapters yet). If you know what this fanfic is, I thank you infinitely.
Thanks
So I’ve been wanting to learn video editing for a while now, and I finally decided to stop delaying and actually do it! So I made the quote game from a few months ago that you all have contributed to ❤️
(There’s also a little gift for u/Ok-Theory3183 hidden in there 😁)
now that Sherlock is no longer available on Prime (ffs), where can i stream Sherlock?
I’m on chapter 3 page 34 and Sherlock talks about a case. The death of Van Jansen Utrecht in the year 34. Was this a made up case, or was this real and if so can someone tell me where I can find and article talking about it because I can’t find any.
Clearly Dexter is a genius at hiding in plain site and manipulating people’s perception of him but would Sherlock be equipped enough to spot him?
The scene after Irene makes her escape the first time we meet her, Sherlock wakes up in a room that is not his. Ive been trying to figure it out, and i dont know if im just stupid, but i can not seem to figure it out. It doesnt look like John's room, like i had thought. John does say "I'll be next door if you need me" before he leaves. Any help would be great, because my mind has not been able to think about anything else for a few days now-
I’m not sure this post belongs in the subreddit, but didn’t know where else to post it. Has anyone ever noticed how the coldest, most emotionless (or emotionally blind, hello Sherlock) guys in movies/books always have one male best friend, and the best friend’s wife is automatically the guy’s soft spot? Sherlock is the perfect example. The only person he’d let in was John, but when John got married to Mary, I love how Sherlock let her in as well. Hugging, smiling, cracking small jokes, (just remember the “that’s my girl” scene). And it’s not just in Sherlock. Just a tiny teeny observation.
I'm halfway through watching this on youtube and it does make some valid points, but largely I'm just thinking "yeahhh I love that bit!" 😆😆😆
Tbf I am the kind of person that just likes stuff and despite having a literature degree am not that "critical" of things that don't directly annoy me, but some things are just a matter of taste.
My husband doesn't really like the show for a lot of the reasons put forward (though he seems to have seen all of it?!?) E.g. focus on characterisation and emotional stuff, convoluted overarching plot as opposed to more episodic mysteries and... that's fine! Each to their own!
Sorry I don't even know why I'm posting this. I am enjoying the video and it is interesting. Just... some of us LIKE watching curly haired Benedict Cumberbatch stare into space and be mean to people for hours on end, ok?! 😅😅😅
SPOILERS AHEAD
Okay, in the climax, when the you-know-who presents Our Hero with the two vials, each containing a single capsule, Our Hero is told that the dilemma is which bottle to choose. One bottle with one capsule for each of them - the choice will determine who lives and who dies.
BUT.
Earlier, when we saw the final moments of the earlier victims, in EVERY case, they reached for a vial that had 3 capsules in it! NOT just the ONE! Here's a screenshot from one victim; here's another. And this is what Sherlock faced - "a good bottle and a bad bottle". See what I mean?
Can anyone explain? Why did everyone else get 3 capsules but Sherlock only got 1? How is it "chess", as the villain explained?
Sorry if this has already been settled a thousand times - I've never seen any discussion of it.
