I am wondering if anyone knows of group actively working on a RTK GPS Smart Mowing Robot in the USA? I have heard of OPENMOWER but from what I can tell, 1. It is not very active (last update 2023? unless I am mistaken), and 2. It uses an off the shelf UK robot mower as a donor which is near impossible to get in the US.

I have about 1.5 acres with hills, lots of obstacles and a curving gravel driveway. Is there a wireless one that will work for me? Which one would be best? Do they all do different zones? Would like to have it do inside the chicken run and around fruit trees and garden beds, too. Tired of paying someone a fortune to come mow for me and I'm getting too old for this! Thanks.

I love robotic lawnmowers they are rly cute (i think) so i was wondering if there is anywhere people share no commentary videos of auto lawn mowers in action, or any community for that.

Is there any project that is about removing the cloud dependency? I have recently installed Valetudo on my robo vacuum. Thinking if there is anything similar for robo mowers?

My wife’s uncle has the Luba 2 5000 I think and he loves it. I’m going to be working to much the next 3-4 months to have time to mow. So instead of paying guys to mow my lawn wrong again I was thinking about getting a robot mower.

The Luba 2 1000 looks like it would be pretty good for what I’m looking for. But I don’t know the robot mower industry very well. Any advice would be appreciated.

Does anyone have experience with / comment about robotic mowers for a large facility such as a public park or golf course? I am concerned about [1] safety mowing when members of public are using the space; [2] how many mowers can one staffer look after concurrently (we will not be permitted to "set up and walk away" (bylaw)); [3] are there multiple commercial vendors to choose from (I see Husqvarna); [4] what's your experience with maintenance/reliability?

I have today an 2008 AC220 that I'm thinking of replace for a modern wireless mower this season. What is currently the best option for a lawn about 800m2? Wouldn't want to spend more than 2000€. Or is the wireless robots still to new? Better to wait 1-2 years?

I've seen various manufacturers do what they can to secure their lawnmowers against theft.

But if we are talking about a device that will cut the grass every day during the hours when we are at work. Plus many of us have little or no fences - so theft of the device is easy.

Of course, I have read about the alarms that manufacturers install - if the device leaves the designated area then I get a notification on my smartphone. But so what if I'll be at work an hour away from home and someone has already stolen my equipment :-(

Of course I can install cameras, but in post covid times a mask can easily defeat cameras.

I thought about Apple AirTag, but it's not a perfect solution.

Do you have any small houses / garages for your lawnmowers - so that they are unobtrusive and do not tempt a thief?

Some robotic mowers like Luba or Kress provides models with dual cutting discs, while some others don't, do you think dual blade disc is necessary? Why?

As long as the mower does it work and keep your lawn at a perfect look, does it really matter how much time it takes?

There are some robotic mower brands on the market, some are Rear-Wheel-Drive, like Ecovacs Goat / Segway Navimow / Husqvarna, some are All-Wheel-Drive, like Luba, do you think AWD is a necessary feature for your lawn?

Or in other words, how much are you willing to pay for the AWD feature?

I would like to buy a lawn mower. One that does not need boundary wire.

I have a small garden, but it has a lot of obstacles therefore boundary wire will not be useful.

What can you recommend to buy.

- Worx Landroid Vision - I like it very much . Unfortunately it doesn't drive in a planned way but chaotic (like the old autonomous vacuum cleaner) . Unfortunately, with my garden it seems to me that it will not pass the test. I attach a picture of the garden. Worx Landroid Vision - it is within my budget.

- Husqvarna Automower NERA - It seems interesting but is 2 times more expensive than Worx Landroid Vision.

What would you recommend to buy? Maybe some other model or manufacturer has an interesting device.

Does anyone have experience of a Cramer mower? I really like the look of the Cramer AiConic that is due for a 2024 release as they seem to have put a lot of effort into mixed visual and RTK guidance which is really what I'd like. However I'm struggling to find and information on it, or even any reviews of other robot mowers by Cramer.

First post on Reddit Not sure it's the right sub but I'm sure I'll be redirected if needed.

Like all of you, I've seen these lawn mower , weedding, leaves,.. robots and I was wondering why we need multiple robots that basically do the same thing.

Why not have one robot with an empty space at the center. And in this empty space you can place whatever device you want: lawn mower, lawn sweeper,dethatcher,... The robot controls where it goes and doesn't and always follows the same type of path. We could even put a snow blower. I'm sure there are other use cases.

Another feature could be: follow me in the yard and you put a box in empty space to pick up toys around the yard or a garbage bin to pick up branches or party left overs, or just carries around a cooler with drinks..

I forgot to add: the device we place inside could be gas powered or electric with or without battery: there are big batteries where you can plug your wired devices now. That means we can keep using what we already have or buy cheap but efficient existing devices

So here are my questions:

1-did I post at the right place? 2- does this project already exist 3- that would be an interesting diy but I'm new to robots so I would need help get started. I'm a software developer (among other roles I have..).

5 or 6 years in with a worx landroid sbasic model

When I press start it does a lap of the perimeter wire before going off to do the lawn. Fine. However for the last week it came out of the dock and just stopped within half a metre.

I reconnected the wire to the dock. It got about 1 metre. Flashing red light 3 times which means it can't find the wire. Dug up the wire for a few meters where it got stuck (it had got deeper than when I installed it) and repegged it closer to the surface. It got 3 metres this time. And repeat the process a few times until I gave up.

Eventually it got about a third of the way round but started getting stuck in places it hadn't before. No flashing red light this time though.

Do you think it's the battery? It seems fully charged and has solid green light.

I don't fancy digging up my whole perimeter wire like this only for it to get stuck again like this. Should I just disconnect this wire and reinstall new wire?

BTW, The wire has been cut a few times accidentally in different places over the years. I used the plastic wire connectors to reconnect.

What would you do next?

I am about to move into a new home that has a very flat, well maintained lawn. Sold my diesel loader/backhoe/Plow/Mower/tractor with my old house and thought "why not go in the completely opposite direction"? Which, aside from contracting services to do the work would be a hands-free solution.

Right now robo-mowers are not that. They take all the parts of mowing that I happen to enjoy (the mowing part) and leave me to deal with the parts I don't (maintenance and worry). Some manufacturers can remotely pull the plug on it for pretty much any reason.

UPDATE: is it true that most of you had to bury a wire around the perimeter of your yard? I find this to be incredibly stupid. Fortunately there are some new ones that claim to not require a perimeter wire. However, they are comparatively expensive. And just because they don't use a wire doesn't mean they have all the options you would expect besides that one. The invisible fence variety are heavily discounted now. Clearly still an evolving situation.

There is a wide range of quality and completeness within the "wireless" newcomers. Some don't have theft protection. Some sell the old wired version with an add-on to make it wireless. Hard to assess user experience on these - Husqvarna is an example. Some have issues with obstacle avoidance such as tall grass (oops).

UPDATE: this is unfounded! If my device tramples neighbors garden, or worse, a child is hurt by it (even a claim to that effect) its my fault. It turns out that I still have a "duty of care" when the mower is operating. No letting it run while I am at work or away.

UPDATE: always true! If something goes wrong with the device, what is my backup plan? borrowing a neighbor's rider? buying a push mower? Are we really sure stealing the unit is not going to happen, even if the manufacturer can throw a kill switch?

When the device wears out and gets old (some are already aging out of useful lifecycle) what do I do with it? Why would I put 2K into something that might last 4 years or might cause unknown problems that undermine the notion that I can just ignore it and let it "do its thing"?

Until the manufacturers make the situations I outline above part of the solution they are selling, they are not a practical solution. Change my mind...

• Running assessment of cut quality with speed adjustment and re-cutting strategy
• Obstacle avoidance that doesn't mistake tall grass
• Stays in-bounds
• Doesn't strand itself or require frequent interventions

When looking at the mower specifications, they say things like "up to 0.75 acres". Is that the entire yard, or can I have it mow my large yard by splitting it up to mow half an acre on Monday and a different half-acre on Tuesday and yet another half-acre on Thursday (etc)?

I have a fairly bog standard garden , front and back separated by a path. The garden is fairly uneven and has a few drops and a few trees.

am thinking about a kickstarter for the hooki navimow which is a perimeter wire free mower , the kickstart price is about £1k , obviously with kickstarter you have to weigh up the chance of getting the device and the chance of it being any good. A decent wire free mower is about £2k to £2.5k so is a chance to get a good mower at half price.

however would I be better off with 2 cheaper wire perimeter mowers (for about the same price) one front and one back (laying a perimeter wire down the side alley between the two gardens would be a pain.

questions

1j is laying a perimeter wire (about 250m in total) that much of a pain.

2. does a good perimeter wire free lawnmower do a good job of avoiding killing itself and navigating between zones easily

3. what the running costs of a mower , does 2 mowers double the cost (or does it stay The same as they are mowing 1/2 the amount)

4. would you go two mowers or 1 perimeter free

Thinking about a robot mower so looking at the various options.

a lot of brands come with suspiciously looking similar models rated for different size gardens , e.g einhell do a 400sqm and a 500sqm which look like the same spec but have a fairly chunky price difference (£220), the only difference looks like the amount of boundary wire.

Are you better of going for a 400sqm version nd buying extra boundary wire

My nearest power outlet is about 7 meters away. The power will have to cross a lawn area. Is it safe to dig the power cable down as it is, or should i do something specific / Else?

Hi folks. We have a farm in Southern Ontario where we cut about 7 acres of grass at a time. Lots of trees, buildings pond, some slopes. Up until a couple weeks ago we were using a Mammotion Luba to cut a portion of this grass, however it was damaged in an accident in the driveway. We are now trying to figure out if we should go with a larger more commercial unit that will do a larger portion of our farm or repair the Luba, and just cut the rest with one of our small tractors. We were really happy with the Mammotion Luba product, it just wasn’t big enough for our property but it did a great job. My next step with it, is to figure out if it’s worth repairing and if so how to go about that. If anyone has information on large scale, commercial electric robotic mowers that we can access in Canada would be great. Thanks in advance.

We have this one spot in our lawn where the mower likes to cross the boundary wire every time it goes over here. Could this be happening because the wire is buried too deep? (Don’t mind the neighbors scaffolding)
