Unfortunately the guy I got these from was bad at sexing. Odd since he has pedigree paperwork and all that. Anyways, could anyone try and identify these? Supposed to have one male And two females but we're just having trouble.

We have a big field that currently has a lot of tall grass that has seeded. I was wondering if I can harvest some to give to my rabbits? I know I'd have to introduce it slowly, etc, but I was curious if the seeds are OK for them or if I should cut that part off?

Any advice about this would be great. Thanks!

Hi y'all, my wonderful doe just delivered 6 beautiful kits yesterday. They've been very active in their nest box. My concern is that they refuse to stay clumped together. I've read on one page that it is not normal behavior. We have a tiny backyard homestead in the North Texas area. It has consistently been in the high 80s this week. Could they be too warm to need each other's body heat? What could be the issue and how concerned should I be?

Update: Thank you all for your comments and advise! We have decided to move our doe and her kits inside to avoid the risk of heat stroke. All 6 kits are well and fed!

We think we had our first successful mating after some unsuccessful attempts. The male didnt fall off but there was a definite hard final thrust and a bit of seizing up at the end of his mating, and our doe definitely had her tail raised. Do you have males that dont "Fall off" completley? Do you think ours was sucessful?

How long should you wait to let your bunny grieve after the death of their bonded mate? Fiona is so lost and sad without him. She’s 3 and has only ever been with her litter or with Bun. He was 9 and lived a long, happy life but she watched him and I tussling with a fox.

Because of the pandemic, adoptions are almost impossible to come by but I know she is so lonely. She hasn’t detached from my side since it happened last week. She’s eating and taking the medication the vet gave her like a champ, but she’s still moving really slowly. She knows he’s dead but she wouldn’t groom him afterwards because he smelled so much like the fox. I think she’s just traumatized (as am I) and sad but I don’t really know how to help her.

The only behavioral change she’s had is that when she’s upset by something (mostly my 12 yr old trying to help) she will pee on them. Like sit on them and just make a giant puddle.

Can anyone give me an idea of bunny grieving and how soon is too soon to find her a new companion. Maybe also some ideas of how to help her.

My bunnies keep digging. Today at like 1 pm we moved the rabbit hutch to a new spot so they can eat new grass but one of them keeps digging. In 3 hours that one has Dug 4 holes.

Wolfgang, 1.5, Flemish cross. He loves to lounge around in his litterbox. I don't blame him, it's pretty soft in there. I've offered him all manner of pet beds from fleecy dog kennel mats to expensive cat shell beds to bunched up cloth he can move around as he sees fit. He hates all of them.

First off, should I worry for his hygiene when he intentionally chooses to hang out where he pees and poops, despite having plenty of wide open and comfy space to choose from? (He is allowed on beds and couches and sometimes hangs out behind/under the bed while I'm reading. Litterbox isn't his ONLY hangout spot but it seems to be one of his favorites.)

And secondly, even if it's fine for him it does kind of drive ME nuts. If I, say... got him a second litterbox with a different kind of litter in it (probably a blend of home shredded paper and wood shavings, which are his normal litter... maybe some of that packaged 'nesting material' from a pet store chain and an old rag) do you guys think he would see that as a litterbox and just poop in both of them? Or would he treat it as a bed and you know... NOT poop in it?

Also sort of unrelated to the topic of this but I just thought of it and it DOES involve bedding: I kennel him at night in an XL bunny cage (he free roams during the day). He loves to take all his hay and shove it all over the cage. Should I stop him or is this acceptable play behavior that doesn't end with him wasting food? Of note: his favorite treat is when I toss a handful of oats in his wide hay dish and he has to forage for them. This might have resulted in part of the hay spreading but I'm not sure. He does push it around with his nose but I usually do it when I'm rushing out the door and need to kennel him briefly.

ETA: I spot clean his litterbox every two days or so and he gets a full clean weekly

I have a litter of kits about 2 months who started losing fur in the middle of the back. Fast forward a couple of weeks and now they are missing more fur, on one of them including the tail. I don't see any skin irritation or scabs or anything that would indicate illness. Are they doing this to each other? The one missing the most fur does look a bit thin. Any insights welcome.

I'm always looking to learn and improve how I process my rabbits so I was wondering what others do? I might learn some tips and tricks :)

Right now I usually cull 3/4 rabbits each time and use the broom stick method, I think it's one that makes the rabbit suffer less, compared to others.

I usually do the process with another person so skinning and cleaning is quicker. we then place the clean meat in a water bucket and change the water a couple of time, until it's clean. after that all is left to do is cut it in pieces and freeze it.

Right now we are culling outside in the garden but one day I would love to have a dedicated space for it with a nicer setup.

I have two rabbits--one male who is neutered and one female who is not. I want to breed my female once (for pets only) then get her spayed however I am worried that my already fixed male may not react well to his partner being pregnant with another male's babies. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

We started our rabbitry this past spring and just culled a few rabbits over the past few weeks.

I was interested in using the bones and other parts of the rabbits for stock. I'm assuming you make the stock in a similar way as you make chicken stock (bones, celery, carrots, onions, water heated for several hours and strained). I was curious if anybody had any thoughts or tips about this. Are there parts that you can't use? We compost the offal, anal cavity, gives the lungs and skull to our dogs and we wanted to use bones/spine with the bits of meat on it for the stock.

In a similar vein, how do you all eat the heart, liver, and kidneys, do you just fry it up with some oil/butter or throw it into the stock?

Title says it all! I had a bunny pull fur and give birth today. I have a baby-proofed cage ready to go that I want to move the mom and kits to, but all three of my does look identical! Are there any telltale signs of a mom that you guys know of? Thank you!

Are the common lawn grasses ok to feed our meat rabbits?

We just started our rabbitry a few days ago with a buck and two does. I have been pulling some of the longer stalks of bermuda grass and stripping the brown leaves off to give them the green stalks and leaves to supplement their rabbit pellets.

Do any of you mix grains in with your rabbit pellets and which ones would be good/not good for meat rabbits (I have new zealands)

I live on a huge farm so i have free access to wheat,corn,barley, and oats. Also canola and beans but I dont think those are a good idea. All of the above are free for me, and I have to buy rabbit pellets at 17$/bag.(cad)

Also if anyone has any input what kinda ratio would be best to use.

I also feed broomgrass and alfalfa/Timothy hay.

Hello all! My rabbit has had sneezing fits for awhile which I believe is from allergies. Until last night, there has been no discharge or snot. Last night I found a thick piece of white discharge on his right nostril, and noticed that only the right leg had any residue from him wiping It off. This morning woke up and it’s dry. No breathing difficulties, still eating, drinking etc... was worried about Pasteurella at first but now now so sure?

Then I noticed he was dragging his hind legs, but he was apparently fine yesterday. We've had a heat spell for about 4 days, but I've always made sure they were cool and had water. He had some sores on the back of his neck and top of his head show up about a week ago, but they seem to be healing nicely. Any advice before going to the vet?

He’s been a good one and the only one I have except for one of his offspring. I raise rabbits for meat and meat only. Would anything happen (deformities etc) if I bred one of his offspring back to it mom, or aunts? I have three does and they are litter mates.

Hey! I recently tried to breed a buck I’ve never bred before with some venting does, but after he’s done going at it he doesn’t fall off. He gets tired, chills out for a moment, then tries again. I can’t tell if he got the job done! I got him from a shady breeder then brought him back to health, and he isn’t sick. Could he just be infertile, or could he just not be kicking off? He’s a Dutch, if that helps at all.

So I bred my New Zealand doe 33 days ago, she started making a nest with hair about 2 weeks ago which seemed early but I havent seen anything and she is now taking a poo on it every day. Could she have had stillborns or something and ate them?

It was hot for a few days, maybe that had something to do with it? But they are very well shaded and never really seem to be panting much, they are pretty chill.
