My boy Teddy has to get critical care twice a day due to his dental problems (poor boy, we are having surgery for him soon). He absolutely LOVES eating it because it is the apple & banana flavor, so he tends to scarf down his food because he enjoys a little flavor in his life. I have always been concerned about how fast he eats his critical care because I have always thought it was a little bit of a choking hazard for him to eat that quickly, but I always supervise him when he's eating out of his bowl so I haven't been too worried lately. Tonight I gave him his second serving of a scoop of critical care and as soon as I put it down on the floor he once again started to scarf it down. All of a sudden I hear a squeaking noise come out of him while he is eating and then I realize HE IS CHOKING. My mamma bear instincts kick in and I start to perform the bunny Heimlich on him and I was luckily about to stop him from choking, but when he finally spit out the food he was choking on it went all over his white dewlap and underlying fur. Honestly, I don't really care about the mess, I was just happy I have always supervised him when he eats because this could have turned bad REALLY quickly. He is completely fine now and is basically acting like it never happened (partially out of his own embarrassment, and yes he does get embarrassed), but I just thought it would be an interesting story for you guys to hear and to also be careful if your bunny likes to scarf down critical care like mine does. Here is the aftermath...
I’ve been seeing products specifically for nesting. Just curious.
Hey all. Ive got an english Angora, shes 10-11 months old.
Shes not been herself all day, she has been up and eating some hay, drinking water. She has poopy butt and she isnt really passing any other poops. I didnt see her go to her litter box all day. Shes usually binkying and hasnt done that, mostly laid down on her side.
Ive got her an appointment tentatively for tomorrow, but by monday at the latest. They are just booked. I watched a gi stasis vs bloat vid, and I really cant tell if shes got either one by feeling, shes very very fluffy and I dont know what normal feels like. There is a lot of gurgling coming from her tummy.
My question is, can I give her the baby gas drop medication regardless and see if it helps? or should I just wait it out until monday? I have to work overnight tonight from 10:30-7am and Im worried when I come home, something serious will happen.
Thanks!
She's home. And scared. And huge. Now starts the journey of acclimating + weight loss -> spay -> bonding with Fraw Bow.
I have 2 male new Zealand silver fox mix rabbits that are 9 months old, brothers been together since birth. They are beginning to dig more and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on forrage mats? Right now I'm letting them use old (clean) towels to rummage in. I've seen a lot of different types of mats but I'm not sure what to get them. Thank you in advance!
I've been consistently looking for pet insurance for my Flemish giant and I seen to not be able to find anything for her all I see is for dog and cats... Any advice ?
I read quite a few of the other posts on this thread and none addressed my query. We are the owners of a Netherland Dwarf. His 2 story "Bunny Villa" is in our office (largest room in the house). The Villa was custom made per our specifications by kwcages. (Yes, he is given tons of out-of-enclosure time as well.)
After it arrived, we noted that because our bun was petite, there was quite a bit of space (about half) between the top of his head and the next level up in his enclosure.
Customers can buy an add-on "Mezzanino Half Level Option" that is as deep as the side of a level and goes a little more than halfway across the front. I inquired of customer service if a diagram or photo of this feature was available for us to see. Heck, we don't even know HOW our little babe is going to get up there... They had NOTHING. Not a biggie. We're hoping someone can help here.
If any of you have this cage and could post a photo to help us make a good decision, we'd be very grateful.
My bunny recently got diagnosed with arthritis, I thought he was getting old untill I found him shaking in pain. Then he was diagnosed in 4 days. (Weekend and I had painkillers at home)
So my little man has found his second wind on his medication. He has even (succesfully) jumped onto my bed again!! But tonight was not that night, me laying in bed doing some tablet puzzles and I hear "DOINK" and look to the side just in time to see my bunny looking shocked and trying to claw its way up the bed but failing and falling down. Knowing he definetly wanted to get on the bed with me gently scoope him up and gave him cuddles for a good 10 minutes before I was allowed to stop without getting bitten. The little man started digging in the blankets and exploring the lump under the blankets called my body. But oh what did he smell?! This wonderfull smell.. could it be?! Oh yes on the side table with not enough space for a bunny to stand were treats!! THE GOOD ONES!! Of course he tried his best to get on there but the good owner I am gently prevented him from going there because its a slippery table and there simply is no space for a bunny. But mr bunny felt so good! No pain from his bones and definetly he felt like he turned 4 years younger! Quickly he slipped past the foot gently holding him back and he got on the table! Slipping on the package of treats and ting pieces of clothes he stood there firm. Firm but wobbly... and slowly sliding to the side... But there was the human foot again! Gently holding him whilst the human was bending in weird shapes to hold him safely on the table whilst reaching to get him. He was safe he decided so he stretched out on top of the treats. Gently he was picked up and put in the lap of the human who moved to the floor so she could cuddle him untill he relaxed a bit from his adventure. She even rewarded him with some treats! The good ones! But from the drawer not from the package on the table.
-story of the arthritis bunny on medication and an owner thinking: "omg I thought you were not that stupid anymore with your old(er) age!!" But definetly happy that he has perked up this much with 1,5 week of medication!! Downside is I got two naughty monsters now ^^
