Welcome home, Valentino! Just wanted to share that I rescued this handsome guy today. Really grateful that we seem to be bonding already! He’s using his litter box, really enjoyed his first salad, and he’s already coming up to me for pets and cuddles. 🥰 excited to give this big guy a spoiled life.
My wife and I took in an approximately 2 year old female (supposedly) chocolate Rex. I wouldn't say we knew absolutely nothing about rabbits at the time, but it was close. We have learned a lot in the past couple of months, and have probably barely scratched the surface.
The bunny is fairly well litter box trained. We had some issues as we acclimated her to our house, but most of those sorted themselves out (I chalk it up to my ignorance vs. bunny attitude). More recently, we've been letting her roam around the house a bit more while we are home. We added a second litter box to the living room - the main space she stays. That has worked maybe halfway. She does use the box, but also often goes outside of the box.
Droppings aren't a huge deal, and sometimes I attribute those to other things: the second box is smaller and a different style, she's exploring new areas, or she gets excited jumping over the dog. But my main concern is urine. She will use the box, but not always.
Is there something obvious we might be missing about the second box? We put it behind a chair, where she likes to settle. Should it be in the open? Does it really matter if it doesn't match the other? Am I expecting too much from a bunny?
Any suggestions appreciated.
Or is mine a lil freak
How is it possible that after 5 minutes the enclosure looks like a mess again
Tldr: looking for a new partner for our lonely newly widowed bunny asap, after a lot of search and contacting people, a suitable bunny showed up but he looks exactly like our late bunny. Torn whether to get him.
The long version: Our precious boy Matu passed away sadly two weeks ago. We're not ready but his bonded partner Kino is very lonely, she's been grooming the stuff toys we gave her everyday and is very clingy. We want to get her a new companion for her mental health, but we don't just want to get just any bunny, because we're not seeing this new rabbit as a replacement for Matu, but a new relationship with us and with Kino that we need to work through. We wanted to get one suitable for her (we had a list of criteria, e.g. We want a similar age as Kino, desexed from early age, size and temperament matching Kino's etc) so they can be happy together while not disturbing her own personality and the life she's already comfortable with and especially when she's mourning.
We contacted our local rescue farm, but they haven't responded after multiple contacts, so I worry they don't have suitable bunnies.
So I started to go through our local trading website this week, filter through the listings and tried to find genuine people needed to rehome their rabbits due to having to move home etc.
But today I saw a new listing, the rabbit ticked all the boxes we'd hoped in our new rabbit, EXCEPT, this rabbit has a coat that's almost identical to our late boy Matu. From the picture, he just looked like Matu...
I have had four rabbits in the last ten years (all rescues, some repeating breeds but no repeating coats), I totally understand rabbits have different personalities and I adore that, and I will definitely treat any bunny as their own individual and definitely not replacement. But even just looking at this picture, my heart aches thinking about the boy we just lost...
I also expect to spend another long while looking for the next suitable rabbit because we don't have much rescuing resources locally.
I'm waiting to hear what my partner thinks of getting a bunny looks too alike our late bunny this soon.
If you have similar experienced you'd like to share, I'd really appreciate it.
Some bunny is being food aggressive...
It’s super fast. I had it in my hands and it sprinted away. Lol
My dad friend gave my dad bunch of bunnies , and they’re 11 in total (one of the bunnies we’ve had for a long time, a make dutch bunny he’s been with us for a long time and he was also given to us.) my parents wants to rehome them by next week, and my dad already has someone who’s willing to take them all, but the thing is the person owns bunch of bunnies, and sometimes eat them, according to my dad, and i’ve been searching for no-kill shelters that are willing to take them, the ones that I found that are near aren’t currently accepting them, and I don’t know what to do.
The breeds are dutch rabbit, and a mixed English spot rabbit. 4 mixed english spot rabbits, one dutch rabbit, 6 bunnies (I’m not sure about their breeds)
Hi all! I was curious to see if your bunnies had any food aversions. My Truffle here doesn't like cucumber or basil. Let's hear yours!
