Sleep Charm (and Nap Time) Usability Breakdown

I don't know if someone has done this before, but I did it for myself for fun, and thought I would share in case someone else found it useful.

Only the following types can be put to sleep:
Psychic, Poison, Water, Ground, Fire, Flying, Bug, Fairy, Electric, and Normal

Sleep Charm Activation Rate (5-30%/30-55%/80-100%) - sleep for three moves

Nap Time (30-50%/60-80%/90-100%) - sleep for two turns

There are many more Sleep Charm users, and the few Nap Time users have low AP, so I will cover Nap Time at the end.

SE usability of Sleep Charm {Max AP}:

  • (Dark/Ghost/Bug) Darkrai {145}, Parasect {125}, Dusclops {105} > Psychic
  • (Psychic) Mesprit {125}, Gothorita {100}, Drowzee {100}, Espurr {90} > Poison
  • (Grass) Treecko {115}, Shaymin-Land {110}, Grovyle {105}, Lilligant {105} > Water, Ground
  • (Water) Omanyte {100} > Fire, Ground
  • (Electric) Pikachu-Sleeping {115} > Water, Flying
  • (Fire) Slugma {85} > Bug

No super effective uses:

  • Igglybuff (Fairy)
  • Stantler (Normal)
  • Buneary (Normal) -- Note: since Buneary is a default Pokemon (I believe the second most common after Pidgey), there are many strategies where you are forced to use it. So there are use cases where it could end up being against any of these types that are affected by Sleep Charm

This also means the following types have no way of taking SE damage from Sleep Charm users despite being able to be put to sleep:

  • Fairy
  • Electric
  • Normal

The only other way of putting Pokemon to sleep is with Nap Time, but since the only nap time users are Bug, Electric, Grass, or Normal types, it doesn't actually add any additional SEs.

Nap Time users:

  • (Normal) Smeargle {120}, Komala {120}
  • (Electric) Pikachu-Kotatsu {100}
  • (Bug) Venonat {100}
  • (Grass) Sawsbuck-Autumn {105}

Also, while Nap Time has a much higher activation rate (in exchange for 1 less turn of sleep), the users have lower AP than their Sleep Charm counterparts (with the exception of Normal type Nap Time users). I think the trade off in AP could potentially be worth it (more on that at the end). But either way it seems like a luxury choice.

In the end I think there are eight usable Sleep Charm users, only two-four really worth using, with the other four being niche:

  • Darkrai (Very high AP, and you will farm it naturally in EB)
  • Mesprit (highest AP Psychic type)
  • Treecko (highest AP grass user and easily accessible. Though competes with Nap Time Sawsbuck-Autumn with higher activation rate but 10 less AP)
  • Pikachu-Sleeping (same AP as Treecko, but a little redundant coverage, and harder to max since it's not farmable. It also competes with Nap Time Pikachu-Kotatsu who has higher activation rate but 15 less AP)

Niche:

  • Dusclops (The only thing Dusclops has over Darkrai is that it deals more damage if the pokemon is Spookified. It also costs less RML to max. But it will be significantly weaker than Darkrai if the opponent isn't Spookfied, and the difference even after being Spookfied is like 10AP).
  • Buneary & Espurr (Both are default Pokemon that can appear in certain stages regardless of SE type so there is some use for either. Buneary is much more common as a default Pokemon and also has a significantly higher max AP. It's even higher than any normal Nap Time user. Espurr on the other hand is very weak, and much more niche).
  • Omanyte (If you really want to put fire types to sleep. It has pretty low AP but you can use it if you want to. It's also not farmable, like Pikachu-Sleeping).

Not worth using at all:

Slugma (Fire), Igglybuff (Fairy), and redundant types

  • Slugma also has insanely low AP, to the point where you might as well use Darkrai if you really want to put Bugs to sleep. Technically it will do more damage than Darkrai, but barely, and you're better off spending your resources on other Fire types. Especially considering you can't Burn a Pokemon if it's asleep.
  • Igglybuff has literally no SE use, and it has one of the lowest possible APs (along with Slugma)
  • Everything else is just a weaker version of the ones listed above. Technically you could have multiple of the same coverage, but it's unnecessary.

Final note about Sleep Charm vs Nap Time:

The (non-Normal) Nap Time users are Pikachu-Kotatsu (Electric-100AP), Venonat (Bug-100AP), and Sawsbuck-Autumn (Grass-105AP).

None of these seem particularly worth it, even though Nap Time has such better activation rate. Out of all of them, I would say Sawsbuck-Autumn could be more usable than Treecko, but Treecko is at least farmable. The Pikachus could also compete with each other. Venonat is not worth it though, imo, since it would cover the same pokemon as Darkrai and Dusclops, both of which do much more than Venonat. I don't think the activation rate makes up for that one. Although if you wanted to use a solo bug team for some reason, you could make the argument that Nap Time Venonat is better than Sleep Charm Parasect, but even then I would say the extra 25AP of Parasect is better.

Sorry if this isn't organized well. These are basically just notes I made for fun and thought I would share.

(TL;DR Darkrai is the most worth it, followed by Mesprit, then Treecko and Pikachu-Sleeping, although both you could use a Nap Time alternative if you care about activiation. Niche users are Dusclops, Buneary, Espurr, and Omanyte [and technically Slugma, but it has insanely low AP]. Nothing else is worth using in any circumstance unless you want a solo-bug team for whatever reason or want multiple Psychic/Grass type sleepers)

Hey there!

We hope that you're enjoying playing Pokémon Shuffle and finding this subreddit helpful. We know this place can be a bit daunting for new members and so we've set up the Query Den.

The Query Den is a friendly place where you can ask any questions about the game in a safe environment. We have a lot of experienced players in here that will swoop in and answer all of your questions. We encourage you to use the Query Den to ask a question first, instead of creating a new post, that will overshadow other important ones.

We have many informative guides to start you off and you should also check out our Discord server, where you'll get lots of help and support.

Happy Shufflin'!

Mega Gardevoir Competition - Week 49 2024

#Mega Gardevoir Competition

AUTOMATION INFO: Check the archived AutoModerator-post for more game resources.

##Competition basics

This is a Fairy type competition. Super Effective types you can use against are Poison and Steel.

You have 18 moves to do the highest score you can. Take your time to do the best moves you can! For new players to competitions, it's worth it to do at least one full-item run for getting the Gardevoirite! Doing an itemless run to study disruptions is also suggested.

  • Mega Start: Grants Mega Evolution starting the stage
  • Disruption Delay: Delays disruptions for half the duration of the stage
  • Attack Power ↑: Attack power gets doubled

##Rewards

  • Players who already have the Gardevoirite will receive 1 Level Up.

##Starting board and disruptions

##Potential megaevolutions

PokemonDescription
Aggron / Tyranitar3 tap mega. Best effect for the competition, good for disruptions and combos. Aggron is SE
Pinsir / Charizard X (Shiny) / Rayquaza (Shiny) / Camerupt2 tap mega. Good for disruptions and combos
MawileSE mega for beginners, the 3 slashes should make blocks more manageable
Steelix/Glalie (Winking)Block eaters can do a lot of damage, but can't combo well. Steelix is SE
BeedrillSquare tap could be tricky to use even if SE, but can handle some block
Gengar / Gyarados (Shiny) / Mewtwo X (Shiny)Removes itself. Fast evolution and nice combo effectiveness, but can't handle blocks
RayquazaRemoves 10 icons that are non-dragon types. Blocks hinder its viability

##Final notes

The preferred choice is of course a 3tapper, with Aggron being SE. If you lack one of them, fallback to 2 tapper. Use another SE mega like Mawile if you are a beginner. Steelix is an acceptable alternative. Beedrill can work too, but is hard to use. All purpose megas like Gengar and Rayquaza have big problems with blocks, so aren't suggested.

Poison status is mandatory, just like a Poison Pact support. Muk is very important because you will start with a lot of blocks and more will be disrupted, making it the most reliable choice. You can add higher variance to the team with a regular double combo booster strategy. Missing those two strategies, you can add Toxapex or a Poison beatstick. If your Poison team is weak, consider a Steel team with neutral TC.

Beginners could struggle even more in this competition, because of the rarity of good anti-Fairy supports and the high amount of blocks present in all phases of the competition.

Using Poison, could be better to skip Disruption Delay to maximize the damage in the first moves and save some coins.

Rerun until you get a desirable score! Good luck everyone!

Trying to find / recover my account with years of progress after 2 years of inactivity!

Guys I'm trying to get back into the game as I used to play it since 2017, but the only way to transfer data is from 1 device to another, and I don't have my progress saved on another device as at around 2022 I got a new phone and simply had a dry period where I didn't play the game, but I had years worth of gameplay

I have purchase receipts from like 2018 & 2021 if those can help the support team maybe recover the account? I'm just asking here as I'm not sure what the process is if anyone went through an experience like this before:((

##Weekly Guide for Newbies (Recap)

Thanks to /u/cubekwing for the great suggestions! If you are a newbie, you should definitely look for more detailed informations in the Newbies Schedule Wiki and in the comments from the original post.

  • Main Priority: (If you have swapped Meloetta-A's skill), advance the Escalation till you max Quirky++, using stage-quitting trick to finish this before Lv175 -> Farm Ninetales (Alola Form) to SL4 -> (If you haven't swapped Meloetta-A's skill yet), don't swap its skill, advance the Escalation to Lv100 -> Farm coins to provide for a full-item run at Houndoom Competition
  • Other Good Pokemon: Tapu Bulu, Houndoom
  • Once-a-Day: Has good rewards to use Great Balls under Super % Catch Rate.
  • Newbie teams for stages: Ninetales (Alolan), Delcatty (Winking), Golisopod, Ribombee, Tornadus (Therian)

Mega Houndoom Competition - Week 47 2024

#Mega Houndoom Competition

AUTOMATION INFO: Check the archived AutoModerator-post for more game resources.

##Competition basics

This is a Fire type competition. Super Effective types you can use against are Water, Ground and Rock.

You have 19 moves to do the highest score you can. Take your time to do the best moves you can! For new players to competitions, it's worth it to do at least one full-item run for getting the Houndoomite! Doing an itemless run to study disruptions is also suggested.

  • Disruption Delay: Delays disruptions for half the duration of the stage
  • Attack Power ↑: Attack power gets doubled

##Rewards

  • Players who already have the Houndoomite will receive 1 Level Up.

##Potential megaevolutions

PokemonDescription
Tyranitar / Aggron3 tap mega. Slow, but best for disruptions and combos. Tyranitar is SE
Camerupt / Charizard X (Shiny) / Pinsir / Rayquaza (Shiny)2 tap mega. Fast start, good for disruptions and combos. Camerupt is SE
Gyarados (Shiny) / Mewtwo X (Shiny) / GengarRemoves itself. Fast evolution and nice combo effectiveness, but can't handle blocks. Gyarados (Shiny) is SE
GarchompSE mega which benefit from auto MB+. The 3 slashes can clear part of the blocks, but isn't a great effect for this competition
RayquazaRemoves 10 icons that are non-dragon types. Blocks hinder its viability

Cycle 2 results

Cycle 3 results

Cycle 4 results

##Final notes

The lack of MS allow for more mega viability. Tyranitar is a slow SE 3tapper, Charizard X (Shiny) is a fast 2tapper, Garchomp is SE and can use MB+ to instaevolve and use its nice effect. Camerupt is slower and you shouldn't care much about SE power sacrificing lot of speed.

Tapu Fini being a SE TC has the upper edge, followed by both Kyogres, which have high AP and can trigger the skill when disrupted, for good damage. Poliwrath is a valid alternative over regular Kyogre, to allow more combo planning. Rock MB+ can be considered to boost to boost Tyranitar, but you will be losing a lot of AP. Garchomp MB+ can boost Camerupt without AP loss, but you will lack anyway a slot that could trigger during beneficial disruptions. Neutral TC is always better than typed combo boosters. Unity power and LDE are always an option for beginners.

Rerun until you get a desirable score! Good luck everyone!

Query Den: ask your questions here! - Week 47 2024

Friend Zone: Mobile Friend Code Megathread! - Week 47 2024

Feel free to post your friend codes in this thread! A new Friend Zone will be created every week, on Sundays.

If you wish, you can also add your codes in the Discord Server #fc_sharing or the Wiki page.

Please include your region (e.g. Asia/Australia , EU, SA, NA) when posting your friend code and update your comment (strikethrough would be the best option, ~~markdown uses 2 tildes to use this format~~) when you have filled your friend list. That way people will not try to add you unintentionally.

Query Den: ask your questions here! - Week 46 2024
