Hey everyone, need some advice. I graduated and I want to have a party for my nearest and dearest. My brothers grad party last year was held at Fern hill Hotel in Hilton and it was awesome. However, mine is going to be bigger than his and I don't think I can afford their prices for my guest list.
Would anyone be able to recommend affordable event venues for a chill graduation party that (preferably but not strictly) provides catering and is pretty to take pictures in? Thank you so much🙏🏾

Hi friends, my partner & I are moving to PMB in January and we’ve found some really nice-looking places for rent in Hayfields. We’re unfamiliar with the area (and most of PMB in general to be honest) so were wondering if any of you would be able to share what the area is like in terms of safety & general “nice-ness”? :)
Wanting to satisfy my craving for Durban curry. Where can I get some for a family of 5 on a Sunday?
Hello lovely ladies!
I’m currently completing my Masters in Counseling Psychology and doing research for my Master thesis focusing mainly on Black and White female women between the ages of 18 and 25.
Most research has been done on Western countries with a lack of racial diversity and I hope by partaking in this research, we can take one step forward in creating culturally competent approaches when supporting women dealing with body dissatisfaction or body image challenges.
This questionnaire will take you about 15 minutes to complete and focuses on your social media usage, body image and eating behaviours.

Your support is very much appreciated. And thank you for contributing to better mental health outcomes in SA!

Seeking the people who dropped a brown tan puppy off at the SPCA PIETERMARITZBURG on Sunday afternoon 14 July 2024. THE DOG HAD RABIES! Their lives are in imminent danger and they could die of rabies in the next few weeks. They require immediate treatment... please help us find these people... they need to go to the nearest government hospital for free treatment. The virus enters the body through a bite or contact with saliva from an infected animal.. The puppy was extremely aggressive and probably bit people prior to surrender.... once the virus seats itself in a nerve death is 100%... successful treatment depends on time and they have hours before it is too late.
I know this is probably impossible but does anyone perhaps know of one nearby, maybe even in Durban?
I studied at UKZN Pietermaritzburg from around 2006-2012 and used to stay in Scottsville.I have been in and out quickly over the years and the town has changed a lot from how I remember it?
I may have a potential job offer and would like to know which suburbs you guys would recommend with regards to a nice place to live, safety, flats or granny flats available etc and how far it is from local amenities? The office is close to victorias country club.
Thanks so much
Im new to PMB and would like a few recommendations for spots where I relax.
I heard that there is a minibus that operates daily from Pietermaritzburg to Mokhotlong in Lesotho, presumably leaving from the Market Square taxi rank. Does anyone know if it still exists, and about what time it departs if so? Thanks!
Hey guys, I moved out of South Africa just over a decade ago. I’m coming back to visit family for the next month or so. While I understand the safety concerns, I'd love your insights on the current day-to-day and any tips for enjoying a beer with family/friends or just doing everyday things. I'm a little naive to the challenges, and I'm keen on maintaining a basic level of personal safety. Any thoughts or advice? Cheers!
Just wondering if the tap water is safe now as I know there was rumours going around not long ago that it was no longer safe. Thanks

Hello! I made this account only expecting to ask this question to the University of Cape Town subreddit (hence my username), but it's also applicable here and I figure I'll shoot as many shots as I can.
I'm in the U.S., and there's a book available at Msunduzi Municipal Library (and 4 other libraries in South Africa that I would really like access to. Here's the page I found listing its availability:

If anybody would be willing to help me get any info on this book, I would be incredibly thankful!

Hi all,
My name is Michael, I am a student of psychology at University of Vienna (Austria) and I am currently writing my master's thesis. The topics of my thesis are perceptions of justice, belief in a just world, feelings of deprivation, and tax psychology. I am aiming for a heterogeneous sample, which is why I am looking for participants in international subreddits, and from diverse professional backgrounds. My population of interest are people who are self-employed.
So, if you are self-employed and want to participate in a psychological study, I would greatly appreciate your help and time!
This is the questionnaire:

It takes about 5-10 minutes to fill out.
Kind regards,

Pietermaritzburg's City Hall, which claims to be the largest brick building in the southern hemisphere, lies in the middle of the Pietermaritzburg city centre. The building is a national monument and is a beautiful piece of Victorian architecture, with its 47m high bell tower.
Did you know? Constructed in 1893, Pietermaritzburg's City Hall was ravaged by fire in 1895, with reconstruction taking place some six years later.

Old Colonial Building Part of Pietermaritzburg’s colonial history lies in the proud Old Colonial Building, which has stood on Church Street since 1899. The colonnaded front facade was completed in 1901 and was home to various government offices over the years.
Did you know? The design of the building is attributed to William Henry Powell, who won the princely sum of £100 for its design back in 1894. The foundation stone was laid in 1887 and Powell died in 1900, before the building was completed.
