From TV Show "Catch Me A Killer" - do you know where this is?
The credits state that the show was shot in "Cape Town, Western Cape and KZN"
Not all tourists, we love you. Just the ones who seem intent on ignoring all safety advice you've been given, or acting like it won't happen to you. Yes, Cape Town is a beautiful city. This can be disarming. It might lead you to think you are always safe. You are not. I live and work in an area that is popular with locals, and we get tourists drifting through too. They are constantly being mugged. Put your phone away. Don't wear headphones. Keep your head on a swivel. Don't walk long distances unless you have been told it's okay to do so (The promenade etc). You might walk further in your European city or whatever, and this isn't an insult to your fitness, but you should Uber when you can, even if it looks impractical on a map. You have no business walking around in this area and the locals here are cautious and street smart and so they manage (although not without incident). The risk factor can change dramatically between blocks. One street can be safe and the next one over avoided. Sometimes the fact that you're on a specific street at all, or at a certain time, is letting people know you're a target, cause you should not be there. But every time some tourists stroll past looking as obvious as a neon sign, with their phones out or handbags on display, whipping out expensive cameras to take pictures of the grafitti, checking Google for directions or something, you are unaware of how many eyes are on you thinking 'what the fuck are you doing?' or 'oh, there is my next target, and it looks to be an easy one'. Why do you think you are immune? You are not. We are not and we know this shit much better than you. I've had to put my own safety at risk multiple times to aid these clueless people. Sometimes I'll give a friendly heads up and tourists are either thankful and immediately respond by putting their phone away, or they'll arrogantly laugh me off like it would never happen to them and they know better. You do not. And CBD and surrounds are pretty safe as far as it goes, it gets way worse than just the mostly opportunistic crime you're advertising yourself for. Just trust us. There is a reason you've been warned. It might not be immediately apparent cause, like I mentioned, it's a beautiful place and most of the people are lovely. But you are an easy target. And everyone can spot you. Opportunistic criminals have seen you LONG before you have even identified them as a potential threat. You don't know the signs. You don't know the rules. Please stop acting bulletproof. Or if you want to keep feeding the underground economy with your fancy phones and shit, keep at it I suppose.
Has anyone recently flown domestic with wine recently? What are the rules around that and how strictly are they adhered to? I wanna take wine home to my family but I don't want it to be taken away. Flying Cape Town to Lanseria.
I am in the market for a rental investment property. As regards affordability, my price range is in the 1.7 - 1.9 m. I’ve narrowed some choices down and I am interested in two places - one in Vredehoek and one in century city. I know century city is relatively safe and has good security and loads of surrounding amenities but I think Vredehoek has greater potential in respect of short term rental but increased issues with break ins and theft. Any advice/insights would be much appreciated.
Any recommendations or advice on removal companies, car transportation and animal transportation. Any advice welcomed.
When does amazon open in cape town?
Hi there,
I read through the tourist faqs/wiki and didn't see information about this, so just figured I would ask. I'll be in Namibia for a few weeks for work from July through mid August, and will then be heading to Cape Town for about a week. We (my wife and I) will be staying at a hotel in Bo-Kaap for a few nights. I've made a few reservations that I'm excited about (Kloof Street House and Pot Luck Club, for example) and we're planning on scheduling a tour of some vineyards for a day during our stay.
I have been to Cape Town before, but never in August. My understanding is that it's typically colder and wet, but we are from Canada so I'm not terribly concerned about us not being able to enjoy it still. I'm wondering if you could recommend any towns that might be fun to go to for 2 days of our trip, ideally 1-2 hours drive away from Cape Town? I know of other coastal towns like Hermanus and Paternoster, but would these still be enjoyable in winter weather -- or are they really just fun as summer spots? We are both outdoorsy people, so we'd also be interested in something involving camping or hiking away from the coast.
Thanks very much for taking the time to read this.
Hello there
I’m from Middle East , I’m thinking travel to cape town to study English.
Any advance about this ? School, rooms, area
I appreciate it 🙏
Hello Guys,
I'm from the UK (English) I'm visiting capetown next month on holiday and I wanted to know if the citi bus service is worth using and if its safe to do so for tourists.
I have shoulder length hair but I'm kinda tired of it and want to cut it, so I thought I'd just donate it to cancer. Where can I find places/dates for when they do those cancer shaves?
Where can I look for housing that doesn’t require first months rent or urgent renting options? My partner was kicked out of his home and were running out of options. He can’t stay with me bc I stay w my parents and his car broke down so there’s that going. I just have no idea how to help or where to even look to get some advice or assistance.
So is it only me, but just about everytime I go buy a few things at the shops, and then check my slips afterwards, there is almost always an overcharge and I have to go beg for my change. I am beginning to wonder if the shops do it on purpose. Not many people even bother to check their slips, but I suggest you do.
Does anybody know of a place where I can buy woolworths reject sweets (the gummy ones)? I used to get it from a lady she sold it for R85 per kilo but doesn't sell it anymore. Thank you!
If so, how recent? Do you have any tips for unemployed youth looking for a job?
Hey guys! I'm visiting capetown for the first time in the next few days. I was wondering if you can give me some tips. Is it safe to walk on the streets at night near the center? Is there any region I should avoid as a tourist? All tips are greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot!
If you are working or have worked I need to ask a few questions it's for an interview thanks!
This is probably a question more for ex-Durbanites but like, in Cape Town, where can I find a butchery like Bluff Meat Supply?
I'm tired of these specialty butchers with their fancy meats 😂
Hi everyone! I’m pretty new to CT and also new to the LGBTQ community. I’ve always been an ally but never got the chance to explore the side of me that is attracted to women (bc of parents, etc, you know the drill). I would like to find out if there’s a community that gathers regularly or just anyone going through the same process. It can be pretty isolating. I’m 25 and I live in Gardens, CT. I’m friendly and really up for anything cool. Let me know. Feel free to pop me a DM :). Thanks so much everyone.
Anyone know where I can go to to get my car headlight bulb replaced?
Mini rant, and curious if others have had similar experiences?
It has happened so many times where I place an order for products that are all in stock, just to check in on the delivery process a few days later and seeing that one of the items are no longer in stock and that delivery would be delayed by another week or 2, or for my account to be credited because the product can not be sourced from the supplier anymore.
The other day I specifically paid a little extra for next day delivery, only to receive it a week later. I opened a ticket with them and was told that I selected standard delivery, even though the invoice stated I paid for next day delivery. The item I ordered was meant as a gift for someone's birthday which I now couldn't give them in time.
Can't wait for Amazon to open their warehouse here.
Edit: typo
For the safety of all people and other animals, please could you keep your dog on - leash. If you want to allow your dog to roam freely, there are 10 meter long leashes that exist. Invest in on of those. Please. I’d like to also walk my dog freely without the anxiety of other dogs attacking my already anxious dog.
folks,
i am a thriller author and my next book will be set in SA, mostly in Cape Town. i hope it is okay to ask some qs for research.
are street vendors likely to camp in open fields by the highways? i
Good Morning everyone.
This is my first job
I have recently resigned ( 3 days ago) and my notice period is 1 week.
The company that I am working for is not a big corporate company and many people leave without even working their notice period( 3 people left last week).
Upon handing in my resignation letter I have been treated differently by everyone in management.
For context, I work for a family-run business that has been around for the past 30 years.
My manager's first reaction was that it was terrible that I would be leaving but then congratulated me on the job afterward.
The day after this, I felt like I was treated differently, everyone looked at me as if what am I still doing here? I ignored it and simply did my work.
I told my manager I have completed all the tasks for this week and the next week and I am willing to put more work out for my absence. All she did was say Thanks.
This morning I logged onto my work PC to find out that she approved none of my work and I feel as if I am doing so much work in vain. She is also not at the office and I do not know how to go about confronting this issue. A part of me just wants to go home right now even tho I need to work on Saturday. The energy seems to feel as if they are not welcoming me to me anymore since I am leaving them.
HR is not that helpful either about the issue it seems to me that she is loyal to them and their lap dog. Please help me with this issue.
Should I go home or just suck it up and work?
Does anyone know where I can get Game Isotonic powder in Cape Town? Can't seem to find it anywhere?
Where can I find a store that sells a good variety of traditional South African instruments in Cape Town? I'm looking for anything--traditional percussion, traditional wind, traditional string. I have an upcoming trip planned from the US, and would like to take something along those lines back with me.
The last thing I have seen about it is this document from the city: https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/City%20strategies,%20plans%20and%20frameworks/Draft_LSDF_District_Six%20.pdf
But it was published in June 2021. Does anyone know what has been happening with the open unused land right next to the CBD? Every time I drive pas I think about what could be there, how many more people could live next to the City.
