New dorm

Hello, I just moved into an old dorm building in south Carolina, surrounded by trees and with a drop ceiling. And it is going on summer. So obviously I am having some bug issues. I've noticed various spiders, beetles and carpet bugs to name a few. I was wondering if anyone can give me tips on what I can do or something I can pit in my room to keep the bugs out? I happen to have entomophobia so this is not exactly a fun time for me. Thank you for any and all advice!

Ant infestation & Terro baits

A number of weeks ago I made the idiotic decision to open the window in my new room on a nice day. In came a zillion ants I have failed to get rid of since. Instead they multiply.

My landlord brought over two terro liquid ant baits. We placed one in the kitchen, it worked like a charm. I mistakenly didn’t understand how to use it, so I did end up smashing a lot of the ants traveling to and from the bait when I saw them. However, that one bait did the job and I’ve never seen any ants since.

With good results in kitchen I decided to put the second one in the bathroom. It seemed to be working exceptionally well at first, and the ants quickly downed about half the juice in it. However, ever since then nobody has touched it and I now have straggler ants traveling all around the bathroom completely uninterested in the bait. The stragglers seem to be slowly increasing in number. I wonder if the ants “learned” when their community started dying off, or if they just see dead ants in the tube and decide not to enter because of that.

Regardless, I bought 12 new baits. I placed one in the corner of my room last night and woke up to the most massive trail/swarm of them I’ve seen yet. By zooming in on my camera, I was able to identify where they enter from: A gap between the wall and floor that’s not sealed up well. Now, I spent hours today/tonight sitting and watching these ants’ behavior. I honestly believe the ants are indeed “learning their lesson”. This morning, no ants were venturing around my room or across the floor. They were neatly traveling against the wall to the corner of the room and back under their crack. However, less than 24 hours after I put out the bait, many ants dropped dead along the trail and other ants started venturing out chaotically in all directions across my room. A frenzy was unleashed when they started running away from the dead ones as they spread across my whole room.. I started to get the impression they learned, so I got Clorox wipes and started smashing as many as I could that traveled across my room but can’t get them all. Finally I decided I should Clorox wipe away any remaining ones along the trail as well (most had long left the trail by this point and the few left were walking away from the bait much more than towards it. Half hour later, new ones are finally coming out of the wall and venturing towards the bait again (as well as across my entire room still, unfortunately). This is giving me the impression that the ants are responsive to witnessing other ants die. To some extent they know what’s up. I’ve seen a lot of speculation about this online but terro brand insists they don’t learn.

What the hell can I do now? What is the best strategy to use my remaining baits? How can I prevent them spreading further? I swear by the end of the night they were actively running away from the bait. I’m exhausted.

How to prevent bringing roaches with me

I have been renting for the last 6 months and there were roaches when I moved in. I cleaned the entire house too to bottom and thought they went away but now that it’s warming up again I am starting to see them again. I am about to close on a house that is currently pest free and would like to keep it that way. Is there a way to prevent them coming with me that doesn’t include throwing away all of my belongings? Is there a diy spray I can use in the new house before moving? I have pets so I can’t leave anything out that they could ingest. Any advice is greatly appreciated

I’ve killed dozens of flies in the past 3 days

Hey I need some help! I’ve killed over 50 flies in the past 3 days. I’m in NYC and we are transitioning into spring. My room is in the basement and they are just spawning out of nowhere every 5-10 minutes. I WFH all week so I haven’t been outside, all doors/windows are closed. I’ve been trying to find the pupae in the basement but I’ve had no luck. I moved the garbage cans away from the windows put bleach and boiling water down all of the drains. Took out the trash.

It’s exhausting and I’ve been just killing them one by one. Any tips plz

Feel like I’ve done everything about the ants, they are still here.

Moved into a new house and a first week noticed ants in the kitchen. Got rid of those but then we started noticing ants in the upstairs bathroom. Then the downstairs bathroom. Then the sunroom. Then we found an entry point outside with a ton of ants on the side porch. Then we found a huge colony of them in the basement in a cardboard box in a windowsill. The found a connecting entry point in the front porch that connected to the basement hive. We have confirmed that they are odorous house ants. When we first started finding them we put terro traps down. It got rid of them for a bit and I sprayed with Ortho Home Defense. I fought them with Terro to no avail for a while, then they obviously started popping up in all the other places and then I found this sub (and the previous ant control sub). In the last 3 weeks we have used advion ant gel (gone through 2.5 tubes), max complete protein bait, and done the void injection. The baits seem to be doing absolutely nothing. The void injection definitely got rid of the colony in the sunroom (on one side of it) and the colony in the basement/ front porch. But I simply cannot get rid of the ones in the bathrooms, and now I’m finding scout ants in our bedroom and the kitchen. I cannot get alpine wsg in my state. I’m simply at a loss for what to do now. They are on the toilet when I go to open it, they are in the bathtub when I go to shower, I see one on my ceiling before falling asleep at night. I feel like these ants own this house more than I do. Please sent help kind pest control experts. Thank you for your help and kindness!!!

Rabbit Under Porch

How would you recommend I get rid of a rabbit that is living under my porch?

What traps/bait work well?

I don’t want it to clean out my garden when the seeds start sprouting.

Help, can anyone tell me what this is? I can't get rid of them.

Hello.

Can you help me identify and suggest me ways to get rid of these bugs? They seem to be mostly active at night. I called pest control 5 times and got the whole house sprayed. But they come back after couple of months.

What to do to manage mosquitos this spring/summer? (Southern California)

Hey all! I live in Southern California and am hoping to get a better handle on mosquitos near our house. We unfortunately live near a retention basin which is treated by the county so there’s a water source there and I treat the area around our house with talstar regularly. I was wondering if anyone had any other tips? We try to keep standing water to a minimum. I’ve been contemplating buying a CO2 trap from biogents but it seems like a pricey investment. I also saw a post about a solar non pesticide mosquito trap that seems interesting (has scientific research behind it) and read about it on Reddit. Any tips?

Petty post about pest control question

My bad because this is part pest control and part (AITA) relationship conflict. I found a larvae crawling up a wall in my apartment a couple months ago, and didn't think much about it. Flash forward and I saw two in my bathroom within the last week, as well as two beetles. I've now identified them as carpet beetles (I don't know how I've gone 33 years without knowing these existed!) I am totally freaked out by bugs and immediately vacuumed/doused my baseboards in diatamaceous earth and for the time being I'm obsessing about finding a source and making sure I deal with the problem. My partner thinks that a couple bugs is nothing to be concerned about and I am overreacting. So I guess my question is how serious is a few carpet beetles? Should I chill out or is it valid that I'm worried my apartment will become infested if I don't nip it in the bud? I've only seen a few but read they lay 100 eggs at a time. Is it reasonable to tackle it on my own? If and when do I need to get a professional involved?

denied job because dwi

got a misdemeanor dwi 0.01% above limit 7 years ago, was told i wouldn't be covered under insurance. I am confused i thought 7 years was the fall off, how much longer should i wait to apply? Crazy thing is that i actually obtained my cdl and trucked for 3 months after the misdemeanor with no accidents so why cant i be covered under their insurance? Not sure of the logistics just a bit confused, was really excited to get this job. If anyone has been in a similar position and can advise me id greatly appreciate it.

some kind of animal in my shed

Hi all:

I have a detached shed next to my house. There is one corner of the floor where some black mold grew a couple of years ago. I treated it with Borax and it worked, but it left the floor of the shed weakened. I just went out to put someting in the shed and it was clear that some kind of burrowing animal had gotten through the floor; there was exposed dirt and dirt around the hole in the floor. It could be a woodchuck, as there are some with a home in an old filled-in cistern in our back yard, or it could be a raccoon. My wife saw a raccoon looking for a way into our detached garage. I don't mind having those animals around, but I don't want them in my shed at all.

I can cover the hole with a piece of plywood and seal it up, but I need to make sure that whatever burrowed in isn't still in there. I don't know what kind of animal it is and so am not sure how it might react if it feels cornered when I go to install the plywood. Is there some way to make sure this critter is gone when I go to put in the plywood? Thanks.

How quickly does Fendona work?

I hired an exterminator to kill off some mites that were in my apartment, and he sprayed Fendona and Mythil throughout the apartment.

It has been approx. 32 hours since he treated the apartment and I've gone from seeing approx 15 mites a day to just now seeing 2 that were hiding under a floor lamp, but are walking very slowly.

He told me that the chemicals affect them right away and I'll be protected from a wide range of bugs for the next 3 months.

My question is:

How quickly do these chemicals kill something like a mite when they come in contact? How long is 'normal' to still see some mites wandering around?

FLEAS WONT GO AWAY!

Somebody please help. It’s been MONTHS of fleas on my cat and dog. Originally we took in a cat around October, we believe it had fleas. Ever since then my dog has been itching uncontrollably (flea dermatitis) . we went to the vet a couple months ago and spent $700 on 3 different shots, pills for my dog to take monthly and flea spray for the whole house. We followed his instructions with taking the pill cleaning the house regularly cleaning the carpets washing the sheets comforters anything cloth or fabric material. We gave the cat Advantage II treatment on his back, bought a flea comb, and bought diatomaceous earth and put it ALL over the house. It was everywhere meaning baseboards, all over the couch, carpet, rugs, EVERYWHERE. While the house was covered in the powered we separated the dog and cat from eachother at different houses. We let sit it for a couple days and vacuumed it up with a shop vac. A couple days later i used the flea comb and STILL found fleas on the cat. Meaning all of our work has gone to waste. (Washing everything multiple times and spending over$900 in vet bills) I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m frustrated. Someone with any advice it would be really appreciated.
