So this is all we have outside of two separate occasions of being bit. One of us had a line of three bites. Three days later I had one on elbow and upper arm. Then we found this. Wish we would have gotten better pics but we panicked and smashed them and threw away half our belongings. Dumb, I know. We disassembled our bed frame. Couch. Chairs. Looked in outlets. Light switches. No molts. No obvious poo. Nothing. This was 5 weeks ago. We’ve had what we think or thought were bites but come up empty handed with evidence. We’ve steamed then sprayed crossfire twice now. Anyways…anyone able to tell if this is one bed bug and two molts or one adult and two nymphs? Maybe we only had one? I know exactly how we got this problem too and it occurred in December from a relative. So this problem was new when we found it. Sigh…I just feel like we’re missing something. I’m scared to go back to “normal”.
Hi everyone,
My worst nightmare came true last week when I found bed bugs on my mattress topper. I have since then put all my belongings in garbage bags and sealed plastic bags out in the sun (it's been 35/37 deg C this past weekend) and had a pest control guy come out to assess the situation. I have also hot washed and dried every piece of clothing in my closet. Since I squashed everything I found and threw out the mattress topper, the exterminator was only able to find one bug on the frame and no eggs or nymphs. He treated my room and said he doesn't think there's much of an infestation, so wouldn't do a second treatment unless I see another in the next two weeks. (Everyone on this sub wouldn't ever recommend only one treatment) I also purchased DE and I'm going to dust all the carpet corners, behind frames, cracks etc. And I am getting rid of my bed frame and mattress because I feel sick with anxiety.
My question is really-- should I move my new bed frame and mattress into the room before the two weeks are up? Also moving all my clothes back into the room? I can't afford to replace everything again and I can't imagine washing my entire closet again either. I'm also incredibly reactive to bites (I only had one night of bites), and they hurt and swell similar to a spider bite.
I went to visit my dad (who stays with his mom/my grandma), they had a bb problem for awhile brought on by my grandma and she isn't even bothered by it.
He had assured me the situation was dealt with hence my visit as I haven't visted in a year. Well it wasn't. Found one on the bottom of my sock while still in his house and squashed it immediately. Told him they were still there and he said its mostly quarantined to her room now. Bruh I thought it was "dealt with", how do people live like this, excuse me??????
Was there for slightly less than an hour. Threw all my clothes to wash on high heat right away when I got home, threw away the bag I had (disposable thankfully) and wiped down all my electronics. Had to put a hairdryer on high on my shoes as sadly had no other way of dealing with that, its leather.
I'm honestly just paranoid now, its been 4 days. No bites, checking bed religiously. Killed some bug in my kitchen that I am pretty sure was a roach nymph but god damn am I just on high alert. I wish people weren't so dismissive of this 😭😭
Hey all! i’ve been dealing with a bedbug infestation for a little while now, and while i’ve slowly but surely seen the numbers dwindling, i have some delicate handmade fabric items that I can’t really afford to be put through the dryer. i’m really stuck in a pickle here, almost of the garments i’ve had in my room by my bed are either very expensive, or things i made myself by hand that i can’t really afford to throw away, any advice ?
Made the dreaded discovery yesterday and already feel like I'm losing my mind. In need of advice from any fellow New Yorkers- or anyone familiar with this kind of situation. I'm in NYC so subject to whatever service the landlord decides to use unless I want to shell out a ton of my own money, which I don't really have a lot of. Two problems. The first one is that I have several items that are delicate and shouldn't be subjected to heat or pesticides (100-year-old antiques, designer handbags, musical instruments)... Anyone have experience in sanitizing these? The hot car thing isn't an option for me in February (I don't have a car anyway) and they're too big for the freezer. I am also wondering if anyone has experience getting NYC landlords to pay for services like bedbug laundry, traps, mattress covers, and other supplies that are necessary to the whole process but not included in the extermination. From what I've read most won't cover it or grant rent abatements for it, but would love to hear otherwise if you managed it. And finally, what did you do with your laundry if you're like most New Yorkers and didn't have in-unit or in-building laundry, didn't want to take it to a local laundromat and risk infesting their business, and may or may not be able to afford an expensive pickup service?
Also open to hearing any comforting testimonies about the whole process not being quite as hard as you'd thought it would be at the outset. This happened right on top of some other unrelated disasters in my life and I am at my limit. Thanks for any words of wisdom that help me hold onto my sanity :')
Hello everyone! As the title says, my partner and I are living with our in-laws while we house hunt and save more towards our down payment. We may not be able to move out until later on in the year, but now we’re stuck with a predicament.
Father in-law won’t take their bed-bug problem seriously. They’ve gutted their house twice before but he doesn’t seem to care and said we shouldn’t worry until we see them on our (still being financed) mattress. As someone whose parents had beg bugs as they were trying to sell their house and had to get rid of thousands of dollars worth of furniture, I know how serious this is. The reason I’m bringing this up today is he found one on his coat, meaning they’ve probably made their way outside of their bedroom.
We’ve been checking our mattress for weeks because they spotted them a few months back. We’re buying a zippered mattress cover today (should’ve done this months ago), and will be vacuuming thoroughly and putting everything in the dryer on high heat as well as spraying the outside of our bedroom. Luckily our room is across the house from theirs, but both my partner and I agreed we can’t sit on their furniture anymore.
Is there anything else we can do to keep them from entering our bedroom? I don’t see us being able to move into an apartment, and I also don’t see my in-laws actually treating the problem. My mother in-law cares, but father in-law won’t take it seriously! Any advice helps, as my and my partner’s anxiety is through the roof!
Found one in my bed and one on bathroom rug. I’ve had bed bugs in the past & they were successfully exterminated. No other signs and no bites (I’ve always had severe reactions to bed bug bites). Tore apart my bed, checked everything including bed frame and nothing. Same with the couch. But I know they are expert hiders.
It looks like a super early catch of them but not sure. Any idea of what it is much appreciated.
Hi, so this weekend I am sleeping at a friends house. I slept last night and am sleeping again tonight. I have no way to avoid sleeping over tonight. A couple minutes ago, as i was laying in the spare bed that was placed next to hers, I noticed a bug that definitely resembles a bed bug. I didn’t have it in me to kill it. As soon as I saw it, my whole neck started itching.
I should note that a couple weeks ago I stayed at this friends house for one day and when I got home i had red marks all over me. They didn’t really look a lot like bed bug marks, at least from what i had seen online, so all I did was inspect my mattress and bed very thoroughly, washed all my sheets and blankets and my clothes, and after a couple days the marks went away.
I don’t know what to do know. I’m too scared to check the mattress cause if there is a whole swarm of any bugs i’ll probably start crying and won’t be able to sleep at all tonight. Please help i want to do everything possible to avoid bringing bed bugs into my house when I get back. I wanna cry😭😭
Moved to a new place recently. put some soda around to trap smelly, and ended up trapping one of these next to the bed. Looks about a mm long. Really worried
I am suspicious I might have a small infestation.
I stripped everything off the bed. I’m thinking of sleeping in the center of the mattress and using double sided sticky tape to create a border around me.
I’m thinking if I have BB, I’d probably find a least one stuck on the tape in the morning.
Does my approach make sense?
