Rules!

Note: we have automoderator set to flag posts that may break these rules so they can be evaluated by the mod team. Appropriate submissions may sometimes get caught by the filter. We’ll get to it eventually, or send a modmail to bring our attention to your missing post if you feel it follows the rules

All rules are enforced at the moderation team’s discretion. Please make any rule suggestions, complaints, or disagreements to modmail, not individual DMs or Reddit chat to specific moderators.

  1. Express yourself, but be civil. This includes hate speech, personal attacks, excessive trolling, etc. Harassment will result in a ban.

  2. Don't post looking to participate in ANY sort of illegal activity. This includes attempting to source medicinal marijuana, cartridges, etc anywhere aside from a licensed establishment.

  3. Please use the search bar/sidebar before asking a question. This includes the wikis! There are plenty of relevant posts that will most likely answer your question. Got a request? Use the "Where In Orlando" Wednesday thread!

  4. Don't spam! No solicitation (this includes both buying and selling tickets). Don't post surveys. Posts on r/Orlando should be related to Orlando in some way.

  5. That "boom" you heard was probably something headed to/from space, thunder, or fireworks from the theme parks. All 3 are completely normal in Central Florida.

  6. No editorialized article titles. If linking an article, ONLY use the exact title of the article (shortening for Reddit character limits are acceptable within reason).

  7. No links to GoFundMe's or any similar donation site.

  8. Follow the Reddit Content Policy!

  9. NEW Misinformation and conspiracy theories are not allowed, including vaccine falsehoods and COVID denialism. Debating is welcome, but stating false claims and opinions as fact is not allowed. This will be enforced at the discretion of the moderation team.

  10. Missing persons posts must include the official poster released by the appropriate law enforcement agency. We do this to prevent cases of stalking or harassment.

  11. Posts about state politics must directly relate to Orlando. Please see this thread for a detailed breakdown of this rule and its exceptions.

Ace cafe

So since ace cafe closed down a while ago, is there another place similar that's hosts meet ups for cars and food? I'm coming into town in a few hours and wish ace was still open.

Potential Major Hurricane

I’m new to the area and wondering what do these storms that come across central florida usually look like?

This one’s projected so far to be anything from cat 1- cat 4 (believe the pressure is showing cat 4 potential) but Wesh has cat 2 at landfall

we are just not sure if it hits as say a cat 3 or 4 does that typically die down by the time it gets to us?

EDIT: if anyone is confused which storm i’m talking about it’s the one they just tagged as invest 92 that has come over from the pacific. Wesh 2 has projections of it hitting down the I4 corridor and some toward miami.

Best Colombian restaurant?

I’m from South Florida and my family is Colombian so I’ve been surrounded by hispanic food my entire life. I’m currently sick and am craving nothing more than like an ajiaco or just some frijoles. I’m in the theme park/ Sand Lake area and am yet to find something that actually tastes good and isn’t insanely overpriced for no reason. Mecatos is fine but they don’t really have meals other than like arepas and burgers. Pls help! Willing to drive in order for semi-authenticity

What happened at Icon Park tonight? (Friday 10-04)

Just drove past Icon Park and the whole place is surrounded by cops, cop vehicles all around and blocking every entrance, even blocking I-Drive in front of the park, and the helicopter on top, anyone knows?

Yeah curiosity got the best of me, was surprised by it and even had to take a detour to leave the area

Could what happened in Asheville happen in Orlando?

I thought we were too inland to be affected by a hurricane at that level. Asheville is way more inland and got rocked. I was once told that by the time a hurricane gets that far inland that it loses its gusto so we would never get the brunt of it. Was that wrong? I’m confused.

Coffee shop: Farm-style table recommendations

Hello everyone!

I love working from coffee shops, libraries, etc., especially since I travel throughout Central Florida for work. Primarily, I enjoy coffee shops because of the smell and ambiance. Can anyone recommend coffee shops or study spots with large/farm-style tables? For example, I've been to Duo58 near Avalon and Stardust in Winter Park—both have that style. Are there any other spots like this in Orlando? Thanks!

Gigwork

Hey guys, do we know of any gig work hiring for same day employees in Orlando? I have a full time job so I’m looking for weekends and evenings!

Open to cleaning and warehouse type stuff, not having much luck on Instawork or Swagbucks so any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Unincorporated areas vs. being within city limits, which is more preferable in your opinion?

Full disclosure, I live in an unincorporated portion of Altamonte Springs where I'm zoned for Lake Brantley but I'm looking at houses in the Altamonte city limits where Lyman High School is zoned. What is the difference between the unincorporated vs. city limits as far as quality of life? Also why in my case, is the the unincorporated areazoned to the better school? This is confusing. Not sure if it's worth living in a nicer house within city limits and send my kids to an average school vs. staying put and sending them to a nicer school. Help!

Orlando Free Will Guide

Sorry if I sound insane but what are some good “free will” things to do in Orlando? I’m 24 and I feel like i’m not taking advantage of my free will enough lol. Some ideas I’ve had are maybe local amateur broadway dance classes, or cook/book clubs, I love the run club they do in Ivanhoe. Any classes that teach random skills, like a lot of people I know in this area took on stilt walking which is cool and pretty useful in Orlando. I’ve done rock climbing which is great and I have classpass which I use for cycling and pilates. It also doesn’t have to be active, it can be creative or adventurous or anything. I will reiterate though I’m 24 and the economy sucks so I’m more inclined to do free/cheap stuff but I’m not opposed to the more expensive activities. I guess I’m really just looking for hobbies but things that don’t take a lot of commitment if that makes sense? Like I probably wouldn’t enroll in a weekly dance class but I know they offer one off ballroom lessons and whatnot. Am I making sense? Hopefully 😭

Very fancy vegan date night recs?

Hi! My partner and I are visiting Orlando next week and have good news to celebrate (she just got a new job!). I'd like to take her out to a fancy dinner if possible at an all vegan restaurant. Any recommendations? I've looked through previous posts about vegan recs in the city, but it's hard to evaluate if any of them are fancy enough. Thank you!

On November 5th, Florida will vote not just for President, but for Senate, for House, for state and local offices, and on ballot measures for issues like abortion and marijuana. Register and vote so you'll have a say in what kind of country America will be!

##Voting in person

Florida offers early voting from October 26th-November 2nd, and some counties may choose to offer additional dates. Find dates and locations at your county's Supervisor of Elections website.

Good place to propose in Central Florida?

Looking to propose to my girlfriend later this month, already have the ring just need the place! Ive lived in Florida all my life and know tons of places but she is kind of picky about where she wants it; she doesn't want to do it at a beach, farm, sunflower or pumpkin patch but seems to be okay with a botanical garden. I am unsure if I want to do a botanical garden due to how similar it is to a farm idea (at least in my head it is). Does anyone have any suggestions?

How should we vote on judicial retentions in Florida?

I am a little late to the party, but I got a text from one of the Orlando political parties with a list on who to vote for on judicial retentions.

I’m a bit skeptical to just vote yes or no because a website tells me to, and I can’t seem to find good resources to check up on this topic.

How do you, fellow Orlando folks, decide on when voting for judicial retentions?

My personal take is that the Florida Supreme Court needs a shake up.

Here’s who’s on the ballot for retention:

Supreme Court Justice Renatha Francis

Supreme Court Justice Meredith Sasso

District Court of Appeal Judge Paetra Brownlee

District Court of Appeal Judge Roger Gannam

District Court of Appeal Judge Joshua Mize

District Court of Appeal Judge Jared Smith

District Court of Appeal Judge Keith White

Thanks for participating and I look forward to a good discussion.

I’m looking to book this accommodation. It’s a 3bd 2 bth at Palisades in Orlando Florida . I saw a few reviews talking about the poor customer service and a foul Odor. Before booking I’d like to ensure that I’m staying at a reputable, clean and safe accommodation . Can anyone give me any feedback regarding their stay ??

Couples cooking classes?

Just like the title states, does anyone have any recommendations/experiences with cooking classes in the area? I tried googling some but searches didn’t really turn up anything useful. Would prefer a class where we go to the chef not them coming to our home.
