I have a 1.4 Console that i installed an HD+ in about 3 years ago and haven’t touched it in about a year, i decided to flash cerbios to it since i have a 4tb hdd i planned on swapping in and after flashing it i have no display, which i’m assuming is because the latest official cerbios release doesn’t support the HD+, and i do remember having to do something bios wise when installing the HD+ originally but i am wondering if there is a way to fix this and flash the OG bios back

I have a 1.6 console with a xenium modchip that boots into what I think is an evoX dashboard. It has a meager 120gb ide drive and I want to upgrade the hdd to 2tb. What steps do I need to take to get this mod done? I already have the startech adapter and hard drive.

The drive does not spin the disk and the laser is not moving. The status "open" is written in the menu but the drive is closed, and the button is always flashing. What could it be?

Morning all, as per the title - I have an XBOX which I undertook a TSOP on four years ago.

I flashed EvoX at the time and am keen to upgrade if there is value?

Any views and, if so, recommended guidance to follow? Do I need to use fatexplorer and obliterate my hard drive (I'd be happy if so as I think my c drive may be a mess as a result of some ftp issues).

I was softmodding my og Xbox with rocky5 and it was near the start of the softmod and my power went out and now when my Xbox boots it boot loops unless a game is in the tray. What should I do?

I just modded my Xbox using Rocky 5 and I’d like to swap out the stock hard drive for one with more space. I was able to find a 500 GB Western Digital SATA III hard drive on EBay for 10 bucks. That should be enough space for what I want to do with it, but I’m kind of lost on how to put the new hard drive in. I have the EEPROM backed up on my PC but how do I format the new drive and get the EEPROM on there?

Would you please advise on setting one of these up properly? I purchased one in person and the system is a mess. Emulators are not linking properly. Featured games are black screens. Please can you give me some guidance? I am using XBMC4Xbox I believe and I have tried switching to XBMC4Gamers but had even more issues with that one. Blurry menus, etc. Thanks to anyone who can give some guidance on this.

I've been hex editing my games to get widescreen support and I've had no issues until now. I edited the values in the picture above in default.xbe but when I start up Halo 2 I still get vertical split screen. Any ideas why this edit isn't working for me?

Solution: I had to also hex edit the default.xbe from the 1.5 title update. That file is stored in /E/TDATA/4D530064/$U Shoutout to u/KaosEngineer for providing the answer.

I've never bought capacitors before but as long as I get 1500 UF and 6.3 volt I should be good right?

Hey everyone! Got a free xbox off of marketplace two days ago and spent yesterday making sure it works and cleaning it up. I made the mistake of not really leaving it on so i would turn it on for about 5 minutes and all seemed good and then i would turn it off. Last night, I moved it from my crt test tv to my monitor so I could start to mod it. I turned it on and started going to the settings and the hard drive to see really what was on it (I glanced prior while first turning it on) then it started to make a strange cranking sound which feels like its coming from the hard drive and proceeds to freeze. I immediately shut it off and turned it back on and it started cranking and brought me to the repair screen once again. I turned it off and unplugged it for about an hour and tried again. It turned on normally no cranking or anything and after about 5 minutes, the cranking resumed and froze the console. It leads me to the assumption its either a hard drive issue or an over heating issue. I did not replace the thermal paste because i dont have any on hand currently while cleaning it up. But when it cranks I can literally feel it coming from the hard drive when I put my hand on top of the console where the hard drive sits.

If this is a common issue or if there is any tips or tricks please let me know.

Im going to do a bit more trouble shooting but probably will end up switching the drive and thermal paste and see what happens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since this is my first rodeo with this gen Xbox

Hey all, I’m trying to refurbish an og Xbox I picked up at a thrift store. I brought it into a game shop and they wanted 100$ for total refurbish but i didn’t really want to bother with that and figured I could learn to repair consoles so I decided instead to buy soldering equipment and parts myself so I can repair more consoles in the future. I bought a full set of caps from a recommended online marketplace and have been practicing soldering on a few boards before I try the Xbox.

So the console turns on but does not read discs or even try too. When I brought it in they mentioned the caps were going bad. I plan to replace the caps but wondered how the repair for the disc drive would work. Do I need to replace the whole unit? Or can I crack that open, swap some capacitors and it will work again?

I only ask this because I also have my childhood GameCube that doesn’t read and that is the primary issue so I wondered if the Xbox disc drive was the same. The laser just isn’t powerful enough because of bad caps.

Any other tips are appreciated

TLDR: can I replace caps on the disc drive to fix it or do I need to buy a new disc drive completely or is there something else to be done.

Happy to pick these up today! The game on the left was only released in Japan, so I’m excited to try it out on my soft-modded Xbox. As for CE, I mean who doesn’t want to hear Cortana boss Master Chief around in Japanese….

I'm picking up an OG Xbox tomorrow and I'm wondering what games I should pick up. Any good recommendations? I'm also planning on putting insignia on it for online gaming

I think I may have figured out why some people have an issue with endgame and the xbox freezing.

Go into your msdash video and/or audio settings And change to something else. I changed my audio from dolby to stereo and my video to widescreen And it worked first shot after at least a dozen hours of attempts (probably 18-22 attempts... all hung at the same spot. Probably 6 attempts with game saves on the hd. The rest with no saves at all)

At first it was thought that having game saves on the hard drive interferes but i don't think that's it. In fact deleting my game saves didn't help me at all.

But nothing worked at all. Nothing. Until i made the audio and video changes. Try it out. Report back.

I have 4 more consoles to softmod in the next few days. I'll try different things to narrow down if it helped or was just a fluke
