Moving from NC to NoVA now that I’m a free man (picked up my DD214). Looking to move towards Arlington/fairfax. I’ve done a little research and just want to hear everyone’s thoughts if I missed something. It doesn’t seem like there’s any firearm possession restrictions (location-wise) and I can take my suppressor up here no problem. I have a non-res New Hampshire CCP, that will only be valid as long as I’m not a VA resident. It looks like I’ll have to change residency after 60 days of working/living in VA, then I’ll have to file for a VA CHP to be able to carry in VA. Are there any other weird laws or considerations I haven’t thought about? I’ll be bringing up handguns, ARs, ammo, body armor and a suppressor. Thanks!
I'm curious if anyone has one of these CMP Garand hard cases made by Flambeau, and whether they're worth getting. We got our Garand from CMP before they started making these, and they seem pretty neat, if not a little big & bulky. Are they worth getting?
Hey so my brother gifted me a gun, brand new basically, never shot. he bought it years ago but is now moving to Germany. Do i need to do anything on my part to tell VA that i have a gun or do i need to do anything at all? Side note, i may be moving to Maryland, if so what would i need to do here in VA to safely bring. Gun into maryland?
I'm getting into black powder so I need an outdoor range that accepts it. According to the calendar, RSO availability looks a little sporadic. Is it reliable enough to be the only range I need?

I know this maybe a pipe dream but I am shooting my shot if you will. I have a machine shop in northern central Virginia that is just sitting vacate. I go in and play from time to time, knock out a few projects for our other companies but mainly it is completely underutilized. I have learned a lot from trial and error and some hands on teaching but I need to learn more. I do not wish to sell my machines as they bring me joy and I truly think that I can achieve what I am setting out to.
I would like to find a machinist who is motivated and wants to run their own shop. You could work for me but that isn’t what I want. I’d love for it to be gun related but it doesn’t have to be. Our background is in heavy duty equipment/commercial vehicles/agricultural equipment. There would definitely be work to fill in while we find that niche. Ideally, Id like to come up with a niche “widget” that we could make and sell to keep the shop self sufficient for covering the costs. This is the ideal scenario, but that doesn't always play out. I have the ability to handle housing if that helps. I wont have the time to babysit or help in all daily operations unless something unusual happens in my schedule. I am in my 30s, very business focused, conscientious of the reality, and love everything about firearms and I am very interested in pursuing this idea seriously. I hope you are too.
I have a Prototrak DPMv5 and a Prototrak 2460SLX Lathe, a YCM VMC with a 4th axis, a YCM Turning Center, as well as some other machines.
If this is something you think you would be interested in and qualify for or know someone, send me a PM and we can discuss any and all specifics. I am open to any ideas.
Thanks
Hi All- I live in Fairfax county and am looking to get my CC License. Does anybody have any guidance on easiest process to get this done? Im getting some conflicting stuff online.
Hello, I'm planning to sell a few long guns this year, likely on GunBroker. The last time I did this was a few years ago, and at that time I was able to bring a long gun I packaged into a UPS Customer Center and ship it directly to an FFL holder as a private individual (non-licensee). Now that UPS and other contract carriers have all changed their policies to disallow this, however, the only option now for a non-licensee to directly ship a long gun to an FFL holder is through the U.S. Post Office.
With this in mind, I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations for U.S. Post Offices in the NOVA area that are easy to deal with for shipping long guns? The ones I've visited near my location (including Vienna, Tysons, and McLean) don't strike me as great places to ship long guns. I can easily see their staff getting nervous and having the burden of proof fall on to me to educate them that it's approved under USPS regulations, trying to do that with a significant language barrier, and having a long line build up behind me. It would be much easier if there was a Post Office in the NOVA area that was generally experienced with shipping long guns, if one exists.
Also, just to preempt the inevitable advice to simply not tell the Post Office what I'm shipping, that's not an option for me personally, as I want to declare the contents of the package in order to insure it properly. Also, this question only applies to long guns -- I fully understand that a private individual (non-licensee) can't ship a handgun through the U.S. Postal Service. And last but not least, I also understand it'd be less hassle to transfer them in-person at a local FFL or gunshow with VSP check, but I've noticed that C&R items don't tend to move well on local platforms like VAGunTrader -- C&R items benefit from access to the broader collecting community.
Thanks in advance!
Niche ask I know, but I'd like to give business to a local shops who offer their own branded AR lowers. The only one I was able to find was by Virginia Citizens Armory Citizen-15, curious if anyone knows other offerings.
Looking to buy secondhand if possible
I live in Arlington and needto get an AR-15 and all attachments plus a suppressor Cerakoted. Are there shops in the area y'all would recommend? I am not concerned with long lead times so much as quality of customer service and fair pricing.
Is there a range/business where I can store firearms?
Thanks!
Greetings all,
I just wanted to post a PSA out there for those looking to get their National Firearms Act (NFA) items in the future. My FFL, Quartermaster Arms, now has the Special Occupational Taxpayer (SOT) license and has invested in an electronic fingerprinting machine that helps with the ATF EFORMS process.
ATF Fingerprints can usually be done through www.printscan.com at many convenient locations and the file sent to your email for $60. I mention this because not everyone will want to have their fingerprinting done as my location may not be conveniently located.
If NFA is something you're interested in, or looking to get interested in, drop me a line. I'm based out of Fairfax.
Be safe and Merry Christmas.
I am a virginia resident, if I have a conceal carry permit from Minnesota would that still be valid in virginia? Or would i need to get a virginia one if I am now a resident of here?
Thanks
Both of my cars are down, but there’s a Steel challenge in Thurmont, toys for tots galactic pistol in Annapolis Friday, steel challenge at shadow hawk sat or sun, probably others. Does anyone have any interest in riding up to one with me? If you are completely new to action pistol I can give ya the low-down and we can squad together. Im not good (C class in production, unclass in carry optics), so don’t feel intimidated lol.
Does anybody know a place with good quality work?
I’ve only been to three of their shows, but each time I go, the quality of the booths get significantly worse. 90% of the booths are Turkshit shotguns (especially the mag fed ones), Riley and Century AKs, Chinese knives, Temu optics, airsoft “””gear”””, actual airsoft, pickles, and other non gun related shit.
I wish this event started limiting specific vendors, like the junk peddlers and those selling actual dogshit guns to those who don’t know any better. All the guns are zip tied to hell so you can’t open the action, dry fire, or even pick up the guns in certain cases, but given some of the audience there, I don’t blame them. I go here to fidget with guns in person before I buy them, and I was barely able to do so. There’s less than 5 booths that are genuinely good.
And their entry rate just went up too.
Noobish NoVA shooter here. Question to my fellow NoVAns: What is - or what would you consider - your 'home' club (outdoor). Seems to me the options are:
I'm inside the beltway, but 1.5-2hrs is fine for me so the WVA ranges have the most promise. On paper Peacemaker ticks most of the boxes for me (although wish i could go during weekday).
I have yet to visit any in person, still doing research. As I hear a lot of people talk about their 'local' or 'home club' just curious what other NoVanders would consider their 'home club' Thanks!
Are there any shooting ranges for distances over 1000 yards, less than 2hrs drive (in one direction) from NoVa?
I saw a post with an expired link to the nova guns discord; can I get an invite please?
Any recommended shops in the area that will do optic cuts on slides
Anyone train at or with ORTAC in Haymarket? The website doesn’t give much info. I’m interested in seeing what they offer?
