Hi everyone. I moved here about a year ago. Love to bass fish and have had some luck catching fish from the bank but could use some advice on where to bank fish to catch some late fall bass. If anyone has any advice I’d appreciate it greatly. Thanks in advance
I picked up this Pflueger patriarch for an absolute steal ($45) off of Facebook marketplace a couple days ago. It's not running the smoothest and I think it could benefit from a breakdown, clean, and lube. Thing is I have never broken down a reel before and cannot afford to replace this if I fuck it up. Is there anywhere within a reasonable drive from Richmond I can pay to get this done?

I want to go fishing today but haven't had luck with my normal purple worms. Is there any spot in the Richmond area, not far out like Powhatan that I could go to that isn't too popular but still good for catching something? Also is there any recommended bait I could get locally, not from Amazon? I've heard Texas rig, Ned rig, the pumpkin yum-dingers, and rooster tails are all good in this area, but I would love to hear your suggestions since I'm currently just using a "normal" hook, where could I go to pick up the stuff you reccomended?
Hello everyone! I am trying to get out this weekend on the James, and am having a heck of a time figuring out where to go. I have a Smithfly Big Shoals raft, and me and my wife would be going. I am confident in paddling, but she would only do the flat water. The plan would be to camp halfway through the float.
We usually go around the bremo bluff area, but are also looking up towards Buchanan as well.
Also willing to go away from the James if needed as well!
I know this is FishingRVA, but I figured y’all might know the most about the James as a whole.
Thank you so much!
Title says it all. Where can I find live peeler crabs in/around RVA? Headed towards salt for pre-dawn launch and I'd love to drop some finder rigs.
Obviously not going to risk my life taking the canoe out while the river is like this, anybody have a local pond, lake or creek that they like?
I barely
Was down at Osborne Landing and noticed several boats going out ( bass boats, pontoon), and more trailers in the parking area. I thought when we were at flood stage ( over 9 feet at the Westham gauge) you needed a special permit to go out in these conditions. Is it different in Henrico county vs Richmond?
I personally wouldn't go out in this right now but just curious!
thinking about bass fishing in the James today.
Are there any good areas by the bank to throw out a catfish rod? Specifically looking for non-dock areas to bank fish for cats. Anyone had any luck here?
New to RVA and looking for some friends to fish with. If there’s some good clubs you know of let me know! I’ve just been wading the James and fishing for smallies or largemouth.
For those who fish this place, where are some good areas to fish by the bank? Looking to be able to throw a big rod out.
Any recommendations for rods/reels and starter tackle to fish for bluegills, smallmouth, and other river fish would be appreciated. The 80, 50, and 30 wide offshore rigs I have been using for the last 20 years seem a bit oversized.
Out fishing Sunday and two of these little guys came over to say hi and eat a few fish. This one was tagged, Anyone know the last time they were recorded in the city?
i’m interested in trying fish a few of the creeks in my area of Chesterfield co. Va near Bon Air. i am particularly interested in information of any kind regarding Powhite Creek
Hey there! I am doing the research regarding one of my favorite hobbies and I would appreciate so much if you could help me out with this one!

I’ve not spent much time fishing, but would like to get into it. I spend a lot of time outside in RVA and figure I’d like to make more use of the river. Any recs on starting from absolute zero? Not asking for spots or secrets, just general guidance to get my bearings.
Hey all,
I grew up throwing big poles out into the James to fish for large catfish but no longer have access to that my usual spot due to the not living in the community anymore. Does anyone have any recommendations for spots where someone can just throw out a big rod from the shoreline? Preferably on the James but definitely open to other areas as well with the same concept.
Just got back into fishing after going a lot as a kid and have been enjoying biking around with equipment. Have been to swan lake and fountain lake but they seem to be pretty stubborn there. Thinking of hitting up bryan park ponds. Any other suggestions?
Does anyone know when Harrison Lake at the fish hatchery is open? I know it closes for some time during the year but I forget when it opens and when it closes. Thanks!
