I just moved back to RVA after a long while in Washington and I’ve started going fishing with my dad and his brother and we have had no luck. Mostly just been using night crawlers and fake worms (unscented) after a bit of google surfing I think I’m looking for rooster tails, Texas rig and beetle spinners, should I continue to use night crawlers? I notice they tend to get ripped off easily, however I never get bites anyway. (Went out on Saturday at 11am came back at 9pm, nothing) Do you guys have any hook/rig suggestions as well as bait suggestions? I’m honestly not looking to catch any fish in particular, I’ve never caught anything so I’m just looking to be able to go out and catch something. I have to say though, we saw some pretty good size gar fishing at Powhatan. I live on the Pony Pasture so that area down to rockets landing is my go to area but obviously Powhatan and any other lake/river access spots are places I go.
I’ve not spent much time fishing, but would like to get into it. I spend a lot of time outside in RVA and figure I’d like to make more use of the river. Any recs on starting from absolute zero? Not asking for spots or secrets, just general guidance to get my bearings.
Hey all,
I grew up throwing big poles out into the James to fish for large catfish but no longer have access to that my usual spot due to the not living in the community anymore. Does anyone have any recommendations for spots where someone can just throw out a big rod from the shoreline? Preferably on the James but definitely open to other areas as well with the same concept.
Just got back into fishing after going a lot as a kid and have been enjoying biking around with equipment. Have been to swan lake and fountain lake but they seem to be pretty stubborn there. Thinking of hitting up bryan park ponds. Any other suggestions?
Does anyone know when Harrison Lake at the fish hatchery is open? I know it closes for some time during the year but I forget when it opens and when it closes. Thanks!

I recently went back to Florida and picked up my old plastic boat from storage. Florida Registration expired in 2023. I bought the boat in 2022 from Academy Sports. I seem to have lost the document showing the sale price. Can I still register my boat in Virginia? I have the title and Florida registration card.
Y’all using soft plastics or what at white bank ??
Does anyone have recommendations for quieter spots to bass fish outside of Richmond city? I'm willing to drive about 30 minutes from Richmond. I prefer fishing in more peaceful areas, away from crowded parks like Forest Hill or Swan Lake. I don't mind being around other fishermen, but I enjoy a quieter atmosphere without too many people jogging or walking their dogs. Any suggestions would be appreciated—thanks!
Where are some good places to go without a boat and far enough up the Jame River from Downtown Richmond, to fish clean water?
I’ve heard 3 lakes maybe, are there others?
I’ve been trying to catch a roanoke bass in a tributary of the nottoway river for the last couple days with no luck i’m not sure if i’m not using the right lures or fishing the right spots or they are just more elusive than i thought any tips would be appreciated.
I am new to the area and am a new fisherman. I got hooked immediately but have a ton of learning to do. I'm looking for a fishing buddy who's down to go once or twice a week and doesn't mind helping a new fisherman learn.
I am primarily kayak fishing but I am open to shore/ boat fishing as well. I am in the north Chesterfield area but not against driving a bit for a good spot.
Caught this with a uglystik gx2 with 10# monofilament, a size 10 hook and about half of a red wiggler. Broke my line as soon as i got him out the water & he completely mangled that tiny hook 😂 First time catching a striped bass too.
Location: Osbourne Landing
Any suggestions? Looking for best places.
Any good ponds in RVA? #largemouthdemon
