10 gallon walstad

I’m going be setting up a 10g walstad tank and I was wonder how many scarlet bandis I would be able keep? Obviously it wouldn’t be for a few months, I know it takes a walstad tank awhile to level out.

Stocking suggestions? 5g planted

I've got a newly set-up 5 gallon tank cycling in my office, and I'd like some stocking suggestions! :)

It's a planted tank with quite a thick layer of substrate (fluval stratum capped with black sand) and I'm waiting for it to grow. For now it's got Anubias Nana Petite, Anubias Kirin Mini, Anubias Nana Golden, Christmas Moss and some Monte Carlo that I want as the carpet.

There's also a hefty amount of lava rocks in there, so I'd say 1/4 to 1/3 of the tank's real estate has been taken up already or will in the future with more live plants.

My original intention is for the tank to be used for cherry shrimp and a couple snails. Are there any other true nano fish that would be suitable? Hopefully ones that can be kept together with the shrimp? I know it's a long shot though considering the limited size.

Thanks for any advice and suggestions!

White critters in top layer of the water innocent?

Hi all,

I've been lurking here for a while and thoroughly enjoyed all your posts!
Now I have a question for you:
Today I found some white... critters in the top layer of the water / biofilm of my aquarium. Currently the aquarium only houses daphnias and ramshorn snails, but I plan to introduce endler guppies in a few weeks. I wanted to make I don't have anything in them that can harm them, so I thought I'd ask you guys what these are. I've tried searching on Google, but I can't really seem to find anything about it (or perhaps the screenshot wasn't clear enough)

Thank you for the help! Here's the video:

Scarlet badis sourcing question

Not my picture, added for attention. I’m considering getting a scarlet badis for my up and coming 8.6 gal tank, and read that they typically don’t exceed 2cm, but that they sometimes reach 3.5cm. Does anyone know a breeder that sells scarlet badis that are more in the 3-3.5cm range? They’re so neat, but 2cm is so itty bitty!

25 Litre/6 Gallon stocking question

Stocking advise! 25L/6 Gallon

This is the current state of my 30cm cube aquarium. I’ve had it running a fishless cycle for 3 weeks and it’s ready to stock I think. I was thinking of the following ideas and wanted community advise, so please let me know! Was also thinking of waiting 2-3 more weeks to let my plants grow a lot taller

  1. 4 RCS, 1 Scarlet Badis (maybe 3 least Killifish / 3 Endler Livebearers)

  2. 4 RCS, 1 Sparkling Gourami (maybe 3 least Killifish / 3 Endler Livebearers)

I liked the idea of a lone fish with shrimp, so am sad about the fact that a beta would kill RCS

Was thinking of adding 1 amano shrimp too, because i’ve heard they’re aggressive on algae, but was worried of possible escape

Eager to hear thoughts or advice!

Also, will not be adding any snails. I am also currently injecting CO2 with a DIY mini soda stream setup and have a nano canister filter i’ll be moving my current filter media to

Little white worms after fertilizer- bad sign?

I have a 6G Fluval Edge lightly planted community tank (2 guppy, 4 ember tetras, ~50 cherry shrimp, 2 nerite snails. Established for about 6 months. I noticed some of my plants were wilting and some were really thriving so I added a small dose of Seachem Flourish aquatic fertilizer. About an hour later all these small white worms were crawling all over the glass of my tank. They appear to be white and tube shaped. What might these be? Is this a sign the fertilizer is causing problems within my tank? My ember tetras have also been hiding in the plants pretty much all week and not coming out. Ideas on what these worms are and what might be going wrong in my tank?

Feasible fish for 2.8 gallon long?

The tank is 18”x6”x6”. It has no heater, but has a small pump embedded into the land area, drawing water from the gravel into the open water on the right. The water is cloudy because I just set it up yesterday.

In a month or two, what fish could inhabit this tank? I’d love celestial pearl danios or habrosus corydoras, but I’m afraid the tank is too small. Anyone have experience with fish in pico aquariums?

to keep it short and sweet my sister 21f and i 17f that’s not important what is is she bought this a while ago and is forcing me to turn this cup into an aquarium can this be a wasteland shrimp tank yes or no i told her it can’t be a betta or a goldfish ffs 😀it’s WAY too small like the picture makes it look huge yes that’s a mint container above it i’ll try to take measurements to see if it even takes a liter of liquid she knows nothing about aquariums therefore she’s NOT going to take care of it because in her mind it’s just fish+water=fine she has a leopard gecko and for her that’s plenty so i’ll take care of it and i’m willing for a challenge but just tell me could this possibly work at all ? with like two shrimp even just one????

Nanotank beginner

Hello! My fiancée recently got me a small 5 gallon tank that was supposed to be for Glofish and I got a shark , one barb , one pristella and I had 2 tetras but they died . I have recently noticed that the shark is quite aggressive , I see it chase the pristella around and I think it’s intimidating the smaller fish because the smaller fish are only staying on one side . I’m planning on returning the shark but I don’t know how to organize my tank , I was thinking of getting some shrimp or snails but I don’t know how compatible they are with these fish , I could use the help on how to fix this problem, before these fish I bought 3 female betta , one tetra and one corydora catfish but only 2 betta survived, I am not sure what I am doing wrong so pls help !!

Fish-In Cycle new tank

Hi dear community,

I am seeking your advice and wisdom.

After careful consideration, I am moving closer to purchasing a Nano Cube (Dennerle 30l / ~8Gal), which I intend to stock with a male Betta (and perhaps some snails and shrimp).
My goal is to keep the bio-load as low as possible, because i would love to add the fish 1-2 days after setting up the tank.
I am fully aware, that cycling without any stock is recommended, but i am also aware, that starting a new tank with 1 fish is possible, if done correctly - which leads me to my inquiry:
Would you be so kind as to share a "battle-plan", suggest a few add-ins like beneficial bacteria and a rough water-change schedule?

Side note: I have a 3gal planted filterless tank, which is somewhat seasoned and currently only hosts snails. Water tests are coming back very healthy. Would it help the new tank, to add some water from the planted tank, to get in some of that beneficial bacteria? The betta-tank will have a filter.

Pics of said 3gal tank added, so the post is a bit nicer to look at :)

Any input, recommendations and sharing of experience is highly welcome and appreciated.

Newbie seeking guidance

Hey everyone.

Had a 200 gal paludarium before paludarium was a word. But that was a long time ago and the size made it almost idiot proof.

Excited to get into nano planted tanks. Considering an Iwagumi style with Blue Mountain Seiryu rock and Christmas Moss. Figure I'll go DSM.

Navigating all the info out there has been overwhelming. If you were me, how would you go about things? A different ground cover like Pearl moss or Monte Carlo?

Appreciate any straightforward advice you can spare

Trying to start my first nano tank off right

I’ve come across almost every single problem with getting my first tank set up. I’m on day 7 of fishless cycling so it’s getting close to when I might be able to add fish. I want to have 2 clowns, a cardinal, yellow watchmen and maybe a fire shrimp. My question is the order of adding the fish. I’ve heard that you should start with clowns to help cycle but also they get aggressive. So should they go in last or first? Should I get the 4 all at the same time so they can pick their spots and not have to fight about it later?

This is a 32 gallon biocube
