Need opinions please…

Trying to come up with names that sound good for twin baby girls. For first and middle names I have Eliana Rose and Giana Dell. The middle names are the middle names of their grandmothers. Would love opinions!!

How would you pronounce my name?

My name is Haley, would you pronounce it as “Hay-lee” or “hail-lee” I never really thought about it and I’m pretty sure I switch between the two when introducing myself with no thought.

Why the hate for common names?

Legit question - Why the hate for common names? I read posts all the time about "Oh, I don't want this name *that I love* because it's sooooo common now..." So what? If you love the name, use it. Kids go through all manner of stages with their names, picking up nicknames, trying out their middle name, etc. It's also so much easier to just change one's name now, too. If you love it, why not use it?

Need Help naming baby girl

I love the name RevereriNicole (pronunciation linked) the Latin root for the word revere meaning deep respect/admiration. I'd love to hear you guys thoughts on the name! Also really into the name Shaun Nicelle for a little girl. Feel free to offer suggestions as well! ETA: In my culture we pick names based more on meaning than anything else. Names like Innocence, Patience, Blessing, Brave, Clarity, etc. are common so Revereri isn’t unusual.

Is Livy too weird of a name?

I love the name Livy (or Libby) and we originally wanted it to be a nickname so our daughter could have a more ‘grown up’ name when she grows up, but my husband won’t go for Olive and Olivia is waaay too overdone. We both hate Liberty and feel very meh about Elizabeth. I feel like I really would like to name her Livy and if she wanted to go by Liv later to not have a cutesy name, that’s an option? But is Livy as a full name and not a nickname too weird?

Edit: I’m not really looking for name ideas or alternatives to Livy. I’ve already read a million baby names and I would be extremely hard pressed to find any names that I haven’t already thought about. I’m just wanting to know if people think it’s too weird as a first name or not.

Update: My husband changed his mind on Olive! We agreed on calling her Ollie as a nickname. Problem solved.

What do you think of this for a girls’ name

Sheridan

Edit: thanks for the responses! I was just curious what people thought really. I named my baby girl Sheridan almost 2 years ago and I love it! ❤️

Which spelling of these names are better for you?

Rylie or Riley

Kylie or Kyleigh

Bryan or Brian

Jeff or Geoff

Cayden or Kayden

Coby or Kobe

For me Rylie is better for a girl and Riley is better for a boy. Kyleigh because my old crush was spelled that way. Bryan because my best friend is Bryan with a Y. Jeff because the one with a G is weird. Cayden because it's just better. Kobe because the other one used to make me think it was pronounced different.

Would you change your last name to your maiden name in a divorce if your children have your husbands name?

I'm a 41 year old woman. My child is 1 year old. I need to make this decision soon. I want to have the same name as my child, but not my married name. If we didn't share a child I'd go back to my maiden name. I'm so torn and looking for insight with your experiences. I don't want to change my child's name to hyphenate adding my maiden name.

cool nickname?

my name is Ariel. I was born the same year the little mermaid movie came out(1989) But I was born in the month of May and the movie came out in December. my mom wasn't very happy because she figured my name would become over used. luckily the name didn't get super popular but I still have to explain it every time I meet someone new. my name is pronounced R-E-L NOT AIR-E-L

And half the people i meet can't say it correctly. so about half the people I know still call me air-e-l.

I tried to use the nickname, REL but it didn't really stick so I quit using it. is the name Ariel (pronounced ARE-E-L) really that hard of a name? I also found out that the name Uriel is common in other areas as well for men. The Hebrew meaning is Lion of God.

Weirdest Name I’ve Ever Come Across/How would you pronounce: Xaq

When I worked retail I sometimes created customer profiles and so when this Gen-Zer told me his name I asked thinking it was the two more common spellings, it was not. The guy explained how his parents wanted him to have a unique name

Need help with a character name!

So I write stories and I've just created a character, he's a professional english footballer, and I really can't think of a good name for him.

For the first name, I'm thinking something like Ashley, or Ashton, something that can be shortened to Ash

But for the last name, I've got no clue. The only idea I had was Ashton Everett but I'm not a big fan of it.

So yeah, last names that work with Ashley/Ashton/Asher would be really appreciated, or other names similar to those!

EDIT: Thank you all for the suggestions! I've decided to go with Ashton Holloway! Thank you again

How would you pronounce Alayna and why?

My name is Alayna and I'd get if someone read it wrong and their first language isn't english but very often people ignore the 'y' and pronounce it uh-lah-nuh. I really want to understand why people read it that way. I'm not trying to be rude and I apologize if I come off that way. I would like to understand why people skip a letter.

This is a rant 👏🏼

Mothers 🤡

I was a pediatric nurse. I had to attempt pronunciation of other languages. They would snap at me for the audacity of mispronunciation of a foreign language.

Mothers where like…. i named my daughter after the two towns in Sweden, she was conceived on our honeymoon

I named her “Stora Ankarvattnet”. 💕

Moms feel that people in USA should be required to learn the Swedish language to pronounce their daughter’s name correctly. It’s the North Germanic language from the Indo-European language family.

It’s like some feel that Each American should be required to learn all The approximately 7,000 different languages spoken around the world today. This is the Melting Pot after all !!! 🤡

Girl name variations

I narrowed it down to two names I love for a girl, but I’m not sure which one is the better spelling/variation of the name. Curious on others’ thoughts as I have had a name that’s always misspelt and it’s annoying as an adult and hope to avoid that possibly. Also open to considering alternative names within the same theme

Lyla, Lilah, or Lila

Eve or Evelyn and call them “Eve” for short

How would you pronounce my daughter's name?

When I named my kids I figured if people were going to struggle with any of their names it would be my oldest, maybe my third born, but nope. It's Acacia. I grew up always aware of the name & pronunciation so I didn't realize others weren't! I've heard so many mispronunciations, some SO off that I didn't even realize they were calling her at the dentist last week 😂 Her pediatrician office literally calls her ah-see-uh. Skipped a couple letters there but alright 😅 How do you think it's pronounced?

There is an E

My name is Simone and I have constantly gotten Simon written down in emails and on notes. It's not even uncommon. Simone Biles is an international athlete. There is an E for a reason. I know they spell the male version in some cultures with an E but I don't live in those and people know I'm female so I have put it down to just laziness or autocorrect. How do I politely educate people that Simone is a female's name with an E?!

99% of people have pronounced my name wrong since childhood

I’m Keira but people have always pronounced it “kee-air-uh”, “kai-ruh”, “kay-ruh”, or “kee-are-uh”. Only once in a blue moon does someone actually say it right and it shocks me every time. I’ve NEVER thought my name was hard to pronounce at all, but it clearly seems to be. Not to mention that people spell it completely wrong too. I’ve had so many wrong coffee shop and store orders over the years. “Kira, Kyra, Kiara, Kiera”

Can you pronounce my last name?

I have been correcting and spelling out my last name for people for as long as I can remember.

Knötgen (German) or Knoetgen (English)

My last name in German is pronounced differently than how my family pronounces it in the states.
