Want to impress boyfriend with Met tickets

My boyfriend grew up going to the opera, while I am a Met (and, relatively, opera) newbie. I want to get us tickets for when we go to NY later this winter or spring, but am not sure if I should pick something or get a gift card and we can choose "together."

We are both under 40, and I am a grad student, though often when I've gotten student tickets elsewhere the seats are no good. Can you use gift cards towards FUN40? Also, what show are folks most excited about coming up?

MET: Are front parterre boxes terrible?

I'm looking to take my son to the Met for a production of the Magic Flute this holiday season. It will be his first time, and so for our seat selection it's as much about the experience as it is the view/sound. Front parterre boxes 1 and 2 are wide open for our date, which has me thinking they're not much desired...even the front row? I just think being that close to the stage in a box has a certain charm to it, but I would hate to conpletely ruin the visuals. Any advice is appreciated!

Whatever happened to the little person who sang in the Met Chorus? He used to be such a fixture.

Just wondering; was always impressed that he had made it to the Met, and of course he was always noticeable in the chorus.

Is the previous Met rush tickets system still going?

I know there's the app now where you get into the lottery, but I'm curious is the previous system (logging into the rush tickets website at noon the day of the performance) is still used.

First time at the MET opera

Hi everyone, I'm looking to buy tickets for Les contes d'Hoffman on october, which is when I'll be in NY. While I'm nowhere new to opera (I attend almost every performance in my country), this will be my first time at the MET, so I want to ensure I get the best tickets to enjoy great sound quality and still get good view of the singers and the stage.

That being said, I've been looking at Grand Tier left row E (aisle seat next to left-center) and Balcony center row A. Unfortunately, the available seats in Dress Circle are either too pricy (row A seats) or too far (to the sides or to the back).

The GT seat seems like a good idea as it is also close to the bars (for exploring during intermission) but I've seen it's a bit under the overhang. On the other side, the Balcony seat seems amazing, but i've hear there is a bar that obstructs view from the Row A in the balcony (though I have not seen a photo of such bar in the official site).

I'd deeply appreaciate your help so that I can enjoy to the fullest my first MET opera :) Also feel free to drop any recommendations (for arrival, food and drinks, outfit, etc).

Tristan und Isolde in HD: Bayreuth Premiere

Tristan und Isolde streamed in HD to a NYC cinema. The new production premiere and opening night of the festival, streamed (on a 9h delay) to Alamo Drafthouse. With Andreas Schager, Camilla Nylund, and Günther Groissböck; Semyon Bychkov conducts. Join us for a love that fulfills itself only in death, and a cold beer and basket of chicken fingers: as Wagner intended.

opera in October

I am wondering when single tickets usually go on sale? I will be in NYC in October with my mom and sister for a few days and it is a chance for us to go to the opera! Our choices are Rigoletto and Les Contes d'Hoffman. This is our chance to see a dramatic set and costuming, any thoughts on which we should see?

Has anybody one a lottery ticket with the new app yet?

Please tell us the details. Did they tell you which seats you won before you purchased?

Meetup for Turandot 4/19?

I’m in NYC next week and have 2 tickets, Dress Circle. My date’s scheduling fell apart and I still want to go.

Me: Single Eurasian lady, early 50s, look 40, independent, classy, cultured and up for the fun of meeting up with a single gentleman of similar interests.

Do they check IDs at entry for Friday Under 40 tickets?

Bought two FUN40 tickets for a performance that we can no longer attend, so I'm going down the list of friends and trying to figure out which of them I can give the tickets to.

No staging for Met Opera Turandot tonight!

Stage machinery is broken and it’s a concert performance at the front of the stage with a Chinese wall backdrop. Refunds or exchange offered.

Sounds great with chorus and principals up front!

I am told this happened only once before with Manon.

Cellist would like to volunteer.

hi! I'm a pretty good cellist. I teach music lessons for a living. I'm not good enough to play for the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra but I would love to play for a community opera company just for the fun of it. Especially a community opera that sometimes performs new works. Is there a company that needs a volunteer orchestra?

Score Desk Seat Q: What Can I Bring With Me?

First timer to the Metropolitan Opera House, bought a score desk ticket to an afternoon show. What is acceptable (and not acceptable) to bring with me? For instance, I was hoping to bring a laptop, but I don't want to do that if the lighting would disturb others around me. Thanks!
