Join the Mod Reserves!
The purpose of the Moderator Reserves system is to create a pool of capable moderators that other communities can lean on for moderation help when they need it most. Typically, when major news breaks, we divert many of our internal resources to triaging the increase in reports of site-wide violations. Moderators also face a significant uptick in moderation workload across their modqueues, reports, and modmail that they may not be equipped to address.
By creating this moderation resource, communities receiving unexpected surges in traffic will be able to draw on the experience and availability of moderators from all across the world. We think this will be particularly helpful for area-based communities impacted by breaking news events, especially for mod teams in need of additional hands in other time-zones.
It's a community where members of the Mod Reserves can share their experiences and tips with each other and the rest of Reddit. More to come as we see how the program evolves!
1. Keep it on topic to the Mod Reserves program
2. Be friendly and polite to each other

I've served as a mod reserve four or five times now. As I began the last one I got a peek at the summary of me that the mods got to see before deciding whether to invite me. I don't recall it being too much different than a look atop my user profile, but there was also a list of the last several posts and comments I had made. So my question: was this summary something one of the mods did manually, or is it all wrapped up in a nice package by a bot when someone volunteers their services? If the latter, I'd like to be able to see it before I offer help, because, well, sometimes there's this guy who kinda breaks into my office and, oh my, I think he may even use my username to post comments. So annoying.
Hey, I'm happy to be here and joined in the last few weeks. Just wondering if I'll be receiving the trophy. Thanks!
Last Friday we had two fairly major dramas hit the Eurovision Song Contest on the same day leading to not only the worst behaviour, but also the most traffic we have ever seen. We weren't expecting the big annual influx of visitors until the grand final on Saturday evening.
Instead, starting late last Thursday night, we had three days of an angry mob posting some really awful anti-semitic comments as well as the outraged fan base of a popular artist who were repeating as fact every half baked theory twitter could think of, arguing with the few reasonable people still daring to comment and calling for heads to roll when he was eventually disqualified.
At one pount we were getting 30 new items in our mod queue every minute. We were working flat out but couldn't even keep up. I did over 4000 mod actions in those three days, and I wasn't even number one in our team.
I came very close to cracking several times and on behalf of the whole team at r/eurovision I would like to thank the reserves who answered my panicked cry for help.
They jumped straight into the queue and started wading through the muck. They checked our automod, which was set up, but added some emegency measures to combat the rampant misinformation and absolutely saved our sanity.
Thank you wonderful people for what you do.
12 points to Mod Reserves. <3
Hello,
How do I leave the Moderator Reserves?
Thank you.
Hey y’all!
I’ve been thinking ever since I joined the reserves, it would be great if we had a profile badge so others could verify we are actually in the reserves!
I did a search on this subreddit regarding a profile badge, and indeed, someone did mention it! Looks like u/sodypop agreed as well!
They made a little mock-up and u/sodypop said he would send it to the design team.
Not much have been updated regarding this since last month, however, to all our designers out their, what do you think a badge for the mod reserves should look like?
I’m not artistic enough to attempt to make anything myself, but when I think of a mod reserve badge I think of perhaps the moderator shield/heart inside a “seal”.
What is your opinion?
Does it make sense to have the Bot make a post each time a request is made so there can be collaboration and discussion on the request?

This could be used for feedback forum like r/Modsupport / r/modhelp for moderators who aren't able to actively moderate but can give support in ways of advice from relevant/similar experience, options to alleviate issues in automated rules, bots, etc.
Or does this cause problems by opening up the request to a wide-public that hasn't been program vetted?
Is this mod reserve request just an advertisement for their sub?

Hello Mod Reserves! Over in r/fansofchapters I am experiencing a natural disaster and I am struggling to keep up with the modqueue and mod mail, if you can really help I need some extra hands on deck. Thank you
Hello there, and welcome to /r/ModReserves, seasoned, new, and future members of the Reserves alike!
This is a public subreddit for moderators, intended to be a place to socialize and discuss the Moderator Reserves program. Up until now, members of the Reserves have been "siloed" for the most part, meaning you all did not have opportunities to meet your fellow Reserve members unless you had responded to the same request in the past.
So let's change that! While there is not a public roster of members available at this time, please feel free to say hello and introduce yourself, any subreddits you moderate, or share your thoughts about the program.
And of course, thank you all for being a part of the Mod Reserves! <3
P.S All members should find yourselves with "Mod Reserves Member" flair in this subreddit. If you don't have flair, and meet the criteria, please fill out this form to apply. (Applications typically take ~1 week to process.)
The Mod Reserves is a group of experienced moderators available to provide immediate moderation help to subreddits experiencing an unexpected surge in traffic. If you are a subreddit in need of urgent assistance, help can be requested by sending an alert via the u/ModReservesBot and available volunteer members will respond. See below for instructions.
This can be particularly helpful during major news events, when mods of related communities may face a significant uptick in moderation workload across their modqueues, reports, and modmail that they may not be equipped to address.
If you are looking for additional mods but it is not an urgent or immediate need, please read our help center article on Recruiting New Moderators instead of using the Reserves system.
If you are a moderator of a subreddit experiencing an unexpected surge in traffic and need immediate moderation help, please follow the below instructions to request help from the Reserves:
Here's an example of a properly filed request. The body of your message will be sent via PM to each of the moderators enrolled in the Mod Reserves, directing them to send modmail to your subreddit to offer their help. It may take some time for any available moderators to reach out. Once they do, it's up to you which mods to invite as a temporary moderator and for how long.
The screenshots below show an example of a request for help from the mods of /r/subbie:
