I first watched My Neighbor Totoro in my late teens after my sister's boyfriend bought her the dvd and I borrowed it from her. I loved how unique and pure it was! and thus began my ✨️Studio Ghibli era✨️
It's a quote credited to Miyazaki but I couldn't find the origin of it
Genuine question has Miyazaki ever talked about the muppets? Do we have any clue what his opinion on the muppets is?
I walk away from this movie feeling seen, feeling real triumph and connection. hope in so many mundane ways
Can’t we normalize this kind of storytelling?
Honest slice of life films without forced drama or over the top tragedy? People just surviving the everyday struggles?
We can have stretches that are bad (not even awful but painful and hard) yet still reach a better
Random notes:
****Would totally die if someone said they wanted to paint my face lol 💀
****Am convinced the older woman she’s close to
***Love that she has friends of all ages
**The boy is annoying early on but it’s so charming to see someone share an interest with another person and take extra steps to share it with them
*If Kiki had a flashlight spell he’d wanna be an Inspector Gadget and put a flashlight in his arm
Movie ends a little suddenly
Watching Courage the Cowardly Dog rn, this dog makes me feel things in my soul
This is the first anime/movie I ever watched in my life. My dad used to put it on to put me to sleep which is why it’s still around. It doesn’t make sense, bc they took out all the environmental factors and renamed her Princess Sandra. (Don’t tell me to destroy it, I don’t have a baby book okay? I have this and a doll)
I thought of a story that was inspired by the adventurous events of Laputa, and the oceanic themes of Ponyo, along with a little bit of Nausicca and a hint of Princess Mononoke.
But set in a Caribbean island. I was also inspired by how in the making of Moana, Motonui is a made up island but is a mixture of different pacific island and polynesian culture as a whole.
I want to do the same thing. Have a made up island but is a soup of different Caribbean islands and the culture as a whole. Story wise, I loved the idea of a young girl going on an adventure with a young boy (maybe her cousin, brother, or a random boy she meets along the way) and I guess maybe her island is in trouble, or maybe another force invaded her island and is trying to take over and it's up to them to stop it. I thought of this "force" relating to the history of colonialism but have them be maybe a group of birds or something like that. I'm not sure. I'm still doing research before I make the story so I'm still at square one.
Do any of you have suggestions? Anyone who is of Caribbean decent have any advice cause I'm black but don't have any Caribbean blood and I don't want to be offensive. Thank you so much.
I most likely will produce a manga or graphic novel.
Not the best lighting due to it being very cloudy and rainy out but I still love it ! Howl’s moving castle is my favorite movie ever!🌸
So I have made three songs on Logic for my Ghibli inspired manga, "A Firefly's New Beginnings" I wanted to get other ears and hear from other fans to see if it sounds close to Jo Hisaishi's style or at least something you'd hear in a Ghibli film?
