I have been using both small microfiber cloths and larger towels for many different purposes, like wiping the dust off of counters and others for cleaning or dusting off the screens of electronics. After every use of each microfiber cloth and towel, I washed them with the rest of my laundry including with fabric softener and other clothes. I then put them in the clothes dryer (once again with my other clothes) to dry, often at high temperatures. I never thought anything of it until I recently read that washing microfiber cloths and towels with other clothes can make them attract lint and that fabric softener and high temperature drying can damage the integrity of the microfiber.
Are the microfiber cloths and towels that I washed and dried incorrectly for a few years now unusable due to what I described above? Most importantly, are they safe to wipe down device screens with, or would I risk scratching my screens since they are compromised, in which case I should instead buy new ones instead? Since I don’t really feel like throwing them out, they don’t all feel the same as they did originally, so can they be salvaged, or does cleaning microfiber clothes and towels incorrectly ruin them beyond repair?
I apologize for how long this post is, but I have not been able to find an answer to this elsewhere and thought I would ask here before I buy new microfibers. Thank you for any help you can provide!
I have a dirty microfiber cloth that I used to wipe down the screen of my iPad. To clean my screen I made the microfiber cloth damp with distilled water as I have read is the safest way to clean a screen. However, I am unsure of how to clean it to maintain the integrity of the cloth. I have read many articles online about this, but none of them answer the questions I have.
Since I wipe my screen down with a microfiber cloth dampened by distilled water, should I only clean the cloth with distilled water as well? I have heard that washing a microfiber cloth in tap water or "hard" water may damage it and scratch the screen of the device I clean it with in the future. If possible, could someone answer this question or direct me to a source that explains it? I just don't want to scratch my device screen by simply cleaning my microfiber cloth incorrectly. Thank you!
Hi, everyone. I'm sure this has been disscused to an annoying level. My searches haven't really answered my question. I know this may sound neurotic, OCD, and just plain overtinking..
I'm purchasing new towels because mine go cooked on hi heat by a roommate, and i just don't trust them. I need a drying towel and a spray ceramic booster (no heavy wax residue) towel. I also need rinseless wash towels.
I searched reddit endlessly and decided on the 2 small griots pfm. Many reviews say it's just the best by far, won't use anything else, etc. I was also going to get a pack of their plush towels for the rest. I called them and found out all their towels are 80/20.
I've only ever bought 70/30. Cheaper grades from the rag company and others are 80/20. It's not a Bentley. it's a new Lincoln Nautilus. When you google it, several sites say pro detailers can see swirls, but with 70/30, they cannot. Some professional detailers in this group have stated they would never buy an 80/20 towel.
So the towel that some proclaimed best towel ever is 80/20. Then they'll have a picture of their shiny 911.
Am i being nuts and should not worry about 80/20, get the pfm. Or should i try to stay 70/30 as many top companies drying and top towels are 70/30. Please don't be too mean to my ridiculousness. Thanks.

Can you clean a microfiber cloth?
Please Help!
Does anyone know how to clean the Zeiss MicroFiber cloth and have it be like brand new? Because its full of dust. And what i did is used distilled water and then rinsed it and waited for it to dry. But when i tried to clean something with it, it left some smudges and stuff. So im assuming this is not the way to clean it
So does anyone know what to do?
We've been making pants with microfiber pockets, even though absolutely no one is searching the internet for them. I love using them and think it is a game changer, but it doesn't seem like something that is remotely on peoples' mind. It's one of those "things you never knew you needed until you saw it."
Would love to hear your thoughts.

Would anyone tell me if these shaggymax cloths are the suede kind https://www.shaggymax.com/products/9-piece-mcswiper-microfiber-optical-polishing-cloths like the apple polishing cloths? i notice these say they are made of sumitex and this one https://www.shaggymax.com/products/twin-turbo-swiper says it is made of turbosuede. Are these 2 different materials or which is the suede kind for cleaning monitors??
I was wondering if it’s ok to wash 70/30 blend with 80/20 microfiber, Or do I have to wash them separately ?
Thanks in advance!
I washed my microfiber towel in the washing machine, cold water with regular detergent (dye free). I air dried it after the wash, but when I used it to clean my reading glasses it left lints. Idk what happened to cause the towel to be that way.... Do i need to buy a new microfiber towel? If so which brand? Or, is there a way to fix this problem?
I know there are different GSMs of microfiber, but in general, is cotton or microfiber more gentle/less abrasive? Struggling with what kind of cloth to use with vintage electronics and other fragile/valuable things. I've been reading mixed opinions.
For years I've used the Quickie blue microfiber cleaning cloths for general dusting/cleaning and the Magic Fiber microfiber cleaning cloths for screens/glass and smaller stuff (but they don't really pick up dust/dirt like the Quickie towels)
Is there a better option or would cotton be safer to use? Just trying to educate myself here. Thanks!
I am thinking of washing my duvet to remove the drain maybe, and perhaps pretreating it with a stain remover? Not sure if that might aggravate the stain though so please give me some advice. Thanks a lot in advance!
or do they all over time? im wondering if i need some specifally for cleaning laptop monitorsince lint free is said to be best
I have a few microfibers cloths that I hand-wash because they don’t get too dirty and so I’ve been searching for fragrance/colour free laundry detergents but there are none free and clear products where I live. I have only found one. There are two options of this product, one is laundry detergent and the other dish soap. Both are fragrance/colour free.
I don’t know if there is a big difference between the two or what the difference is when it comes to using it for hand-washing microfibers, but what I wanted to ask is, since the dish soap is cheaper and I don’t need big quantities I was wondering if it would do the same job or is laundry detergent better (for hand-washing as I mention earlier).

I need help on how to get rid of the specs and sparkle like residue that Microfiber cloths left on my windows when I washed them. I have tried hot sudsy water and they still are there and it is driving me crazy!! HELP!!?
I’ve had amazon basics microfiber clothes (yellow/blue), MagicFiber, and Calotherm (expensive af). Lint and streaks are the most common issues.
I have three use-cases:
I tend to use dish soap, water and any specific bathroom cleaning spray or similar. Dusting also.
I tend to use isopropyl alcohol 99%. I’m going to switch to mix of IPA and distilled water.
Water and dish soap then microfiber to dry.
I saw many recommend The Rag Company’s microfiber products and I’m willing to give them a go, but I could use advice as to which TRC microfiber clothes to buy as there are so many :)
Is the Edgeless 245 a good choice for all my use-cases above?
Good morning everyone, recently I washed 7 of my microfiber towels after using them for dusting + a thorough clean of my bathroom.
to start off washing these towels. I dipped them in some warm sink water to remove some of the gunk i noticed had hardened on the fibers a bit along with any excessive anounts of dust/dirt i picked up cleaning.
Then I rang em out and brought them to the washing machine to really wash them and remove lint. I used a high spin + cold water cycle + all clear and free detergent.
Finally i hung them out to dry after taking them out of the washer. when all was said and done i notice the towels are no longer as soft as they were and that the woven borders on them have shrunk.
I have microfiber rags for the floor cleaning. The ones Bona sells. Is there a more efficient way to get rid of debris caught than just using tweezers?
