I live in Babylon and I was just driving about an hour ago (7:45ish) when I saw a shooting star/meteor West-Northwest of me. I'm hoping anyone else can say they saw it too so I know it wasn't just some trick of the light. It had a green color to it.

Last week, my landlords of nearly ten years gave me three months notice. (They are moving family members into their house and taking over my upstairs apartment.)

I spent the week casually looking to see what my options are. I’m finding very limited options because I have two cats. Even though I am willing to pay any sort of pet deposit and have my current landlord vouch for me (and them), I can’t even find apartments that will allow cats. So I decided to just start looking for apartments, even if they said no pets - hoping that I could charm my way into them!

Zillow,apartments.com, apartmentFinder, etc. don’t even have anything in my budget - so I went to Facebook. I found a handful. I responded to five of them asking if the apartments were still available. Of the five, only one responded. They responded “Do you have any pets?” I responded yes. Then I heard nothing. Funnily enough, I saw the same ad on another site and it clearly states “small pets OK “. I contacted them on that one - no response.

I don’t understand the lack of responses. What does it take to just write back and say “Sorry, the apartment is taken”?

Hello, i am looking to buy a house with my mother due to our current landlord selling the property where we currently rent. We figure we are doing well enough to get our feet wet with home buying. We have visited a loan officer and we have been approved for a 610k amount. Our credit scores are both above 760s. I have a grasp on how things work but im looking for tips and pointers to look out for when visiting a home, making an offer, inspecting a home etc. Thanks in advance for sharing.

So one of my plates just flew off this morning on my way to work. I know I have to go the police station and file a report and bring it to the dmv.

Is there a dmv form that I need to fill out also? I have a personalized plate. Will I be able to order that same one? When I go to the dmv do I need to take off that plate and take it inside?

If you put everything in a garbage pail and just throw it out can you get fined? I know we are given the green pail but if you never recycle will they realistically go through your garbage to check?

I’m scheduled to report to jury duty tomorrow to the criminal court building in Riverhead. My issue is that my sciatica is flared up badly right now and I’m worried about how much walking I’ll have to do from the parking lot to the building and to the jury area. Is the lot far from the entrance? Once you get to the entrance, is it far to the jury area? I had deferred once because I was on vacation the first time so I don’t think I can defer again. It's closed down eastbound for a crash investigation, the thing is the crash happened at five this morning, seven hours ago. Seems awfully long for an investigation. Newsday might have more details but of course it's all locked away behind a paywall. I have to be near the area in a couple hours, hopefully it'll be clear by then but who knows.

I have an elevated deck that connects the backyard to the kitchen and living room. The deck is wood and completely rotted (my chair leg went straight through while sitting on the deck this summer). It’s really not safe to walk on anymore. I called in a few deck companies but no one seems to do a design-build and on top of that this deck needs a permit (could take many months to get permit approval). Does anyone know any way to simplify this process? Do I really need to hire an architect, engineer, expeditor and contractor to replace something that has become an emergency? Any suggestions are welcome. I’d totally do this without a permit but a have a bunch of Karen neighbors who will certainly rat me out. Thanks

I posted over a month ago asking about Victory Pro Wrestling and whether I should bring my 12 year old to a show and got a positive response, just wanted to post a followup and say whoever recommended it was absolutely right. I've been to two shows now with my daughter and we had a blast both times, it's a lot of fun and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good time.

Just drove past three cars on fire on the north bound side of the Cross Island right before exit 32. Looks like one car was driving the wrong way and hit two cars head on. All three are on fire.

I’m in western Suffolk and I’m a female singer (a little rusty but working on it) and I want to start a band. Looking for adults in 30s-50s who seriously want to play. The style of music is blues/jazz with a Latin swing vibe. Similar to Caro Emerald, Kate Earl, Ivy Levan, Jem. I have zero experience being in a band but I’m super open and eager to learn. It’s always been my dream and I’ve been sitting on this too long and I just can’t take it anymore. I NEED to do it! Anyone have experience or interested? All instruments welcome. It’s very much jazz so all instruments are fair game!

Probably not the right place, I’m mainly a vocalist, mediocre guitarist that can help come up with riffs. I’ve been wanting to start a metalcore bands along the lines of shattered realm, Arkangel, Thick as Blood. Mostly early 00’s stuff. I got music recorded that I can link to if anyone’s interested in starting something.

I grew up on Long Island and I never moved out of state until 4 years ago. I moved to Sarasota Florida to help my elderly mom after my step dad passed away. I didn’t want to go.

I’m really considering moving back but I do have my hesitations. I’m just not sure what to do. Both of my parents are still here in their late 70s. At the moment they are both in good health and need little assistance, but I know that won’t be forever.

My daughter is currently in 6th grade. The schools here suck, the kids she’s associated with aren’t great and I just miss home and my family and friends. I only have a few friends here. Most of my family and friends are on Long Island.

Of course there are pros and cons to anywhere you go. I’m over the extreme heat, hurricanes. Education, alligators, bobcats, snakes, coyotes and the people.. it’s a different world. That said I’m not sure how I’ll handle the winters coming back haha

I’m just so torn. I sold my house in 2021 for 500k it’s now worth 850k the prices have skyrocketed. I’d have to downsize drastically.

Part of me feels like I should go to North Carolina or somewhere else but my biggest thing is my daughter and her education. As she gets older I know how hard it will be to adjust to a new school.

Hello I’m 17 currently looking for any boces school that teaches plumbing, does anyone have any suggestions on personal experiences or perhaps other trade schools that aren’t boces but specifically for plumbing. I almost stupidly put myself in the job corps thinking it would be better Lol.

I just moved here and usually on Veterans day I check out whatever places offer a free food item. I'm aware that I can go to military.com for a list but many of those places aren't even on Long Island. Other than major chains (Applebees, Chilis ect.) does anyone know of any places i can get something? I would love a free cheese slice NY style 😋
