The caveat is that I don't have a car and must commute into the city on occasion, but the development is within walking distance of the Roslyn station. And gosh, for a trashy South Shore girl like me to have a chance at *Roslyn* is mighty tempting.
I'm looking to get some board games to enjoy with my family. not your run of the mill hasbro whatever games you can get at walmart or target. more strategy based games that are independently published. kids are between 6, 9 and 11, so things that they can easily grasp on to are a plus.
Thanks!
It’s my birthday and I always look forward to the games in the newspaper. Of course it’s the one day the newspaper doesn’t come when I leave for work.
Any way I can get a digital version of the nyt or daily post games oages?
With the crosswords, scramblers, sudoku x, anagrams, cryptograms?
Anyone know an online link for the pages or can send a picture of it…
Thanks!!
I see those large overhead self car washes with pumps and suds on social media sometimes and I wonder if there’s anything like that in LI, near Port Jefferson
Hi! I currently live out of state but I grew up on the island and would love to make the move back to Long Beach. I've been trying to look for apartments/ houses to rent on fb marketplace and Zillow, but it seems incredibly hard to find anything!! Was wondering how you all found your apartments and if you had any advice for looking when you dont currently live local. Thanks!
I'm trying to find a good newspaper / website that has local event listings and local news coverage for long island. i want to find stuff to do with my kids / family on the weekends and keep apprised of important local issues, like the Bethpage plume or the big ronkonkoma development that's happening.
i tried newsday and they have good local news, but i don't think they have a lot of events in their print edition and i struggle to find events listed in their online edition too.
i've tried some really local stuff like "The Long Islander" and "The Times of Huntington & Northport", but the deliver shedule of these papers is really inconsistent. The listings are good but i don't receive the paper until after the weekend is over (it's supposed to be delivered on thursdays). even then i feel like the listings are often same set of venues that regularly advertised in those papers.
Does the NY times have good long island coverage? are there other news outlets or events websites i should try?
Anyone have any recommendations? Anywhere near valley stream , RVC etc. thank you!
Any NY realtors. I am just curious if you know where a buyers NyS Property Disclosure ends up? I know it gets sent to the buyers attorney and buyers lender. Does it stop there? Does NY in anyway get a copy. Thanks.
It’s almost 10pm. I’m considering going to the Brooklyn bridge park but I’m 7 months pregnant and a woman and my mom and bf would get mad at me for doing that alone. I just really could use to clear my mind right now and sit somewhere and zone out and be outside. Any ideas?
Edit to add- I’ve read all your nice comments. Thank you. I will get back to you guys when I can.
looking for the BEST bloody mary on LI, bonus points if the place has good oysters, ty!
Ever since the real estate craze during pandemic, I've been seeing a lot more changes with Asian food on LI. I used to have to go out to the city for these, but now I can get them on LI. (These are just my suggestions).
there has to be a bird of some kind that will eat them. Theres too fucking many lantern flies.
Got a band looking to do an Arctic Monkeys cover show on Halloween, any bassists out here interested?
Can anyone provide a recommendation for an honest mechanic in the Glen cover/oyster Bay Area?
Looking for recommendations for good places that play blues. Got abandoned by gf or ghosted.
Blues Music is my vibe right now so curious about a chill place even if I want to go by myself.
Thanks!
I’m looking to get my nose pierced but I’m having a hard time finding an affordable place. Every shop over found has a $40-$60 service fee plus jewelry that’s $50 minimum plus a tip. So essentially $120+ at bare minimum. That seems a little steep to me but I don’t have a massive frame of reference so maybe I’m wrong.
Any good shop recommendations? I’m specifically looking for a black stud, preferably a black jewel held by silver. Not a lot of shops seem to carry that so larger variety in jewelry offered would be preferable
Hey so I live in bayport (between sayville and patchogue and not many people have heard of it) and I recently discovered my local library has book club starter kits so I was planning on starting one. Ideally it would meet in person as the goal is to foster more face-to-face connections as that is lacking so much in modern day society. They have over 20 book selections and judging just from the few I looked into they are some amazing selections. All are welcome so please leave a comment on here if you are interested or reach out to me privately. Thanks!
Anybody have any recommendations for a prefabricated home extension companies that can construct on long Island??
Not sure how much traction this will gain here, but figured I should try! I play violin in the Northport Symphony Orchestra (https://northportsymphony.org/) and we would love to increase our string forces. We have a full complement of winds, brass, and percussion, so we need to expand our string sections to balance the sound. We are looking for players of all ages (we have members ranging from high school to past retirement age) and, though entry is audition-based, our players' levels vary and we can accommodate all abilities.
Even if you yourself are not a string player, we'd appreciate getting the word out!
We play under Eric Mahl, who took over last year and has brought a really stellar energy and passion to the group. Last year, we had a wonderful concert cycle that included Scheherezade and Mahler 1. This year, our program highlights include Dvorak Symphony No. 9, Brahms Symphony No. 3, and Copland Appalachian Spring.
Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 7 in the Northport area, which should hopefully prevent conflicts with many other groups on the island. I can get you in touch with our music director, or just click the link. Will happily take any questions about the orchestra's level, schedule, or anything else!

Anyone use the PJ train to get into Penn? What’s the parking situation like in the morning?
I know I know, it will never be finished. But I was wondering, what is the current plan at least?? as there were so many ideas in the past. According to Wikipedia:
As of the mid-2010s and early 2020s, a project to upgrade the highway is underway.[4] The project, known as the NY Route 347 Safety, Mobility and Environmental Improvements Project, is to improve traffic flow and transform NY 347 into a multi-modal highway. Soundwalls, earthen berms, a third lane, new curbs & gutters, and landscaped medians – along with bicycle & pedestrian paths, green spaces, bus shelters, and green infrastructure – are all being constructed as part of the project. Two interchanges will be constructed, as well: one at NY 25 and the other at Nicolls Road – and many remaining at-grade intersections will be enhanced.
I see three major things:
I'm not an expert, but it doesn't look like there will be an interchange between 347 and NY25, just a regular intersection. Am I missing something? Also, they recently paved and painted part of 347 around Lowes. It looks like there will be only 2 lines going straight. Although they painted the yellow line kind of far away from the middle barrier, so I'm not sure.
Anyone knows what's the current roadmap of this project? pun intended
