Gun-ownership through a pro-gun liberal / leftist lens.
Mission Statement:
Gun ownership through a pro-gun liberal lens.
This is a place for liberal gun-owners who want to discuss gun ownership absent the "noise" of most right-leaning pro-gun forums.
"Liberal" here is "left-of-center", in US political terms. Liberal/Leftist/Progressive. Those who would identify as Democrats, Progressives, Socialists, &c. This does not mean "classical liberal" or right-leaning libertarians.

My wife and I have enjoyed shooting at the range—infrequently. Good times. We’ve also enjoyed archery as a shooting sport. Last time me and my daughter who was like 13 at the time went to the range (indoor) she did not enjoy the experience. Maybe it was too loud. Maybe it was too smelly. Maybe I just didn’t didn’t make it a fun/safe experience. I don’t know. We shot a 9mm of some sort I think. She’s now like 16.
New range with awesome ventilation suggests a 22 for her. Anyway, I’d like her to be able to handle a weapon and shoot it. Suggestions about how to get that done. Both me and my wife are on board with developing such skills.
Odd question, but just wanted to run it by the hive-mind.
Looks like I could be moving to a neighboring state, which happens to have fewer restrictions on firearm purchases. Anyone have any idea on how long I will need to cool my heels before loading up on all the scary black rifles that are currently too dangerous for me to have now in my current location?
TIA
Vickers Glock 45 done by Wilson Combat. Wouldn’t have paid retail for it, but had to scoop it at half of that!
I saw a gx4 at a pawn shop for $225...looks really clean. Also a G3C at a store I'll be visiting in Fort Worth this weekend for $219.
Anyone with either of these that can talk to me about issues or being finicky with any particular ammo???
I started shooting about four months ago and really got into it. Mostly at indoor ranges, probably with half at one with mediocre at best air purification system. I haven gotten up to shooting 200-250 rounds twice a week. I did follow sensible guidelines by washing hands with D-lead after, taking off clothes after shooting and washing.
I realize it may be from another source but I highly doubt it, I don't know of any other sources in my environment. I will follow up in about 90 days with another test after no shooting. If levels are good I may resume at outdoor ranges only and TMJ only with less frequency.
Just back from FleetFarm (Wisconsin). Deep breath...can't believe I am a gun owner at 50M. Vowed never in my life, but between all the political banter and advice from my brother in law (also a liberal multi gun owner 50M), I decided on a nice Taurus .38 Special. Nervous as hell but also feel a mild sense of relief after a month plus of online reading, asking an hour of questions to multiple folks at the gun counter, and of course this subgroup.
Fwiw, I initially thought I needed a .45 or .44, minimum .357, but happy I toned it down for my first. Appreciate any constructive advice as I hope this group accepts old newbies.
Having picked up the M83 recently, figured it was time for my milsurp family photo.

I just purchased my first firearm (pending the obviously necessary background check). I googled a photo as I don’t have it in hand yet: a CZ 457 .22lr.
Man, buying near the election was an experience. Those yahoos at the store really are drinking the koolaid. I couldn’t get a single interaction in without having half-baked political drivel injected into the conversation. The Republican Party has lost its absolute mind, and it’s a shame a great skill/hobby is being gatekept by these poor fools. I see why this sub is so necessary. I went straight to the voting booth after I left for the extra satisfaction.
Anyway, I’m happy to join the community. I chose the CZ over a Ruger 10/22 because I appreciated the better fit and finish. I saw lots of people saying “just bite the bullet and buy the nicer CZ”. I wanted bolt-action anyway.
I’m looking for recommendations: scope, training stuff, ammo, storage, cleaning/maintenance, etc. Anything to get me going wisely and responsibly. Cheers, and good luck Nov. 5th?
Hi all
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and my father was admitted to a skilled nursing facility last month. He has over 50 firearms (rifles, pistols, revolvers, etc.) throughout his home in gun safes. However, he only disclosed to me this week that he *thinks* he has 3 handguns in what used to be his room. To complicate matters, the house is being sold in the next few weeks and I cannot have the movers and cleaners come while there are presumably loaded firearms in unknown locations.
I have ZERO experience handling firearms. They intimidate me and I've never been trained on how to use them. My issues are that 1) I have to locate the guns in my fathers hoarded room and 2) find a way to safely store them.
I'm looking for any recommendations on how to safely and responsible approach this situation. My father cannot afford to store his guns with a gunsmith. I am hesitant to involve law enforcement to avoid any potential penalties my father may incur. However, I am open to suggestions and wisdom. Thank you!
EDIT: Thanks everyone for their feedback and their advice! I’m super appreciative! The responses here are definitely much different than ones on other forums. Thank you all!!!
How do you guys balance politics and wanting 2A rights? I feel like I have to vote republican locally (cause they are moderates) and demo nationally. I hate the roster, no NFA and no AW in cali… they do nothing to stop the actual gun crimes.
hello I'm a trans leftist and my partner and I are both thinking about buying our firsts with the way that white nationalists have been feeling empowered by the election circus. regardless of the outcome of Tuesday, we are feeling unsafe
where in the Philly area could we safely be ourselves, not be denied a sale, treated well?
I'm maybe going to get something as simple as a long gun or a 22/PC carbine. my partner is thinking about a handgun but they're not sure.
thank you in advance!
I bought a punch set yesterday and tried to slide my front sight slightly to the left (to shoot farther right) and the damn thing won’t budge. I had it in a vice and the slide padded with a leather gardening glove. The rear sight is so far off center it’s dumb.

Got annoyed at the range last week, trying to zero my new pistol RDS, got placed in a lane in between 2 guys mag dumping ARs. Even using double hearing pro the concussion was like being beaten on the head with a baseball bat wrapped in a pillow. Absolutely could not work precisely under those conditions, packed up and left using less than half the range time I paid for.
In my ideal world, the range, which always has 2 out of 3 ranges open, would separate pistol caliber shooters from rifle caliber shooters. It amazes me how many people are bringing ARs to a 25 yard max indoor range. Other than basic function tests and extremely inaccurate zeroing, what are you doing?
Anyway, that's my gun story for the week.
What's everyone else up to?
My shooting buddy just moved to Austin so I figured I'd give this a shot to see if anyone's in the Plano area who goes shooting regularly.
I typically hit up Bullet Trap in Plano, but willing to try anywhere in a reasonable distance.
If you are in the US. Go vote.
I’m fighting a constant itch to go to the range lately but the price of ammo is really bumming me out. Where are you guys getting the best deals for range rounds?
Hey y'all,
I'm looking at building my first AR, but I've read that PSA has a history of being somewhat pro-Trump. Does anyone have suggestions for companies that sell rifle kits or individual parts, specifically the upper and LPK? Thank you!
Stay safe friends.
I went to a range again for the first time in a long time. I enjoy shooting guns and bows. I like shooting at things. It’s relaxing and enjoyable and fun. I don’t own a gun cause I want to remain married.
Still, they had a lot of weapons on the wall for rental. I presume they are all weapons I could buy in Colorado. If I owned any of those firearms, I would not consider myself “disarmed”. I shot a Glock 19 that day, and the rest of what i could have borrowed looked pretty lethal. What do people mean when they say that the government wants to disarm me?
I mean, shit, I can even shoot a 50 caliber rifle at that place. Owner showed me a video of her doing just that. The shockwave was impressive. Spent shells on the floor were shuffled about.
Thoughts?
ETA they actually warn people before anyone shoots the 50 cal so that they can leave the range if they want to before shooting ensues. Instead, they can watch from a window.
This Savior equipment bag is the best one I’ve owned. Highly recommend their stuff.
Currently in the market for my first AR and I came across this for $1179. Is this a good deal? I have 3 stripped m4e1 to use later down the line, but wanted something complete for my first one. Thoughts on the M400 v2?
