The cards in question.
2 > 4 Winter Soldier Targeting Sidekick Hero
Question: Can Sidekick's effect of draw 2 cards be used in turn after being targeted by 2 > 4 and then again beginning the following turn because of Man Out of Time (MOoT)?
TLDR: This might be more effort than it deserves. Has this been answered? Can you Man Out of Time a Sidekick and therefore "play it twice."
So this is something I haven't found any help on and I feel deserves attention. I believe the rules may not cover the effects and that that may simply be the rub. Has a dev answered this? Opinions are great but don't say you know if you really don't know please and thanks.
I don't think there is a question about whether or not Winter Soldier can target Sidekick. If anyone wants to take that stance by all means go for it. However, it clearly says Hero on those cards and 2 > 4 targets a Hero in your hand.
Applicable game rules: Man Out of Time: "After you use this card's abilities, set it aside. At the beginning of your next turn, play this card a second time and then discard it." Statement that may or may not be applicable from supposed dev? Jeff? I can't confirm but it sounds reasonable and accurate: "These cards are only "set aside." They're not in your hand, they're not treated as if they're in your hand, you can't discard them, draw them, KO them, etc. Even if you had discard down to zero cards before your next turn. You'd still play your Man Out Of Time cards after revealing the top card of the Villain Deck as normal."
Arguments for: The Sidekick is a Hero and can be targeted. It gains MOoT as though it were written on the card as additional text. Since it takes place after all effects it could even return to play for your following hand after it had been returned to Sidekick stack.
Arguments against: If you return the Sidekick to its stack in order to utilize it's effect of draw 2 cards then it is no longer in your control and any effects or attributes no longer apply. Since it wouldn't be discarded it does not get to be in your 2nd hand. Also perhaps sidekicks rules are supposed to be paramount to other effects.
Personal opinion so that my bias can be considered if any was entered in: Play order.. 2 > 4 targets Sidekick Play Sidekick and return to Sidekick stack Then set it aside for next hand (MOoT) since that effect has not taken place and the rules state to play MOoT after all other effects. Next hand. Sidekick plays at start of turn.
It could even be argued that Sidekick goes to its stack after 2nd hand and THEN is discarded because MOoT cards are DISCARDED after they play the 2nd turn and after their effects per the rules. Meaning that the Sidekick would be shuffled back into your deck (because it ended up in your discard.)
Again this is simply opinion but I think it's the solution looking at everything literally with the rules we have at our disposal.
Hopefully a dev has simply said what is so.
