Hi, I live in Southern California and have been looking at buying some land. Not planning to move there, but like the area from a scenery position. Looking for something with a little more land (10+ acres), and doing some fishing and hunting. Maybe eventually building a cabin.
What should I know about the area?
Or is it lakeweed(?). Does anyone know why there is such a problem With the weeds in LP? There is plenty of water, but the weeds are just too much.
Blue-green algae is also impacting the largest lake in Northern Ireland.

Haven't been able to find anything online so I figured I'd ask here just to cover my bases.
Revisiting this community again to ask about any major developments in the county? Anyone have any opinions on the likelihood of the Guenoc Valley Project becoming a win for economic development in Lake County? Is there any other notable projects under way?
The bay area his become unrealistic to continue to live in. Lake County has continued to catch my eye year over year. Specifically Hidden Valley Lake/ Middletown area.
Looking at home values historically since 2000 the homes appear to have more or less remained stagnant. No real increase.
Do you all consider it a financial mistake to buy a home in the area? Since there isn't much value appreciation would the property taxes and repairs over the year make a home a financial mistake in comparison to just continuing to rent?
Additionally lake county itself isn't far away from the bay area. Do you all ever see there being economic development in the area? Or even transportation improvements making it easier to commute between Lake County and Sonoma County or even the bay area?
I'm from the Bay and will be staying north as my in laws are from southern California. I stayed at CLearlake during the pandemic so we just ate at our rental. We are staying near Clearlake and I am just wondering if they're any great restaurants to consider near the lake, we are willing to drive a little further as well if it's worth it :) Anywhere near Clearlake Oaks, Lake port, Kelseyville, etc. TIA
Anyone know of home insurance companies that will insure homes in the Clearlake area?
We plan to go midweek in July and stay at the reopened Konocti Harbor resort. Coming from SF - what is there to do for 2 days? I know there are casinos and wineries and boating - I also have heard it is very run down and a lot of meth labs and hillibillies in mobile homes. It has been over 10 years since we've been there - it is more reasonable than the $500 a night rooms in Napa Valley.
im from the Bay Area and looking to buy land somewhere in CA in a few years. Is it worth buying land (few acres) for a small homestead in Lake County?
My senior-aged mom recently rescued a Belgian Malinois from an abusive situation.
My mom had the best intentions, and went to the veterinarian to get her spayed. We came to learn that her new rescue was pregnant!
I am trying desperately to help my mom in this difficult situation, as we do not know what to do with a litter of 9 unexpected puppies.
The beautiful puppies were born last night. I want to be as proactive in this situation as possible to find the best possible solution.
I have emails into three different rescue groups. Dogwood rescue emailed back to say that they were at capacity.
We are in Sonoma/Lake County. I am willing to drive to surrounding areas to ensure these puppies go to loving homes. (After they are weaned, of course).
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated and welcomed.
Thank you for your time.
Hey! I'm new to the area and looking for fun places to hang out or things to do nearby. I'm only here for a couple of months before heading back to the Bay Area.
I just moved near Middletown a couple weeks ago, and I'm curious what the best internet provider is around here? Does anyone know if there are any plans to build infrastructure for better internet? Are there companies that would install business internet at a residential address?
It would be interesting to try to compile a list of what people think are the best restaurants in LC right now!
just off the top of my head
Husband and I are looking to buy a waterfront home in Lake County. We’re from California and have lived in both big and small cities over the years. We know that there’s not much entertainment, shopping, etc. and we’re ok with that. We’re drawn to Lake County because of the small town community and beautiful lake. We visited Kelseyville and Lakeport recently but would like to learn more.
Does the lake smell during the summer? We’ve heard that Lower Lake has an unbearable smell but that Upper Lake doesn’t… is this true?
Is the water safe to swim in during the summer? Is the whole lake covered in Blue Green Algae or only certain parts?
Which cities are the safest? We’ve read mixed opinions about safety and crime along the lake.
Anything else we should consider?
Thanks so much for your help!
