The Lagotto Romagnolo is an Italian breed of dog. It originates in the marshlands of the Delta del Po in the eastern part of the Romagna sub-region of central Italy. The name derives from Romagnol: Can Lagòt, meaning "water dog". Its traditional function was as a gundog, specifically a water retriever; since the drainage of large areas of wetland habitat in its area of origin, it is now more often used to hunt for truffles.

My sweet little ball of mischief (10 months), like most other lagotti, finds creative ways to entertain herself if she gets bored. Most days she's perfectly happy being at home while I'm at work, and enjoys napping on the couch, playing with her toys, and napping some more (I have a camera so I can watch her during the day when I'm not home). However, every now and then she gets the urge to destroy something when she's home alone. I thought I had puppy proofed her area pretty good, but today she showed me that I was a fool for thinking the fire extinguisher was boring and non-chewable. Anyways, does anybody have any recommendations for toys/chews that are safe without supervision and a good source of entertainment? She gets her food in puzzle feeders before I leave and when I get home from work, I rotate her toys so there's always something new and fun to play with, but she's not interested in plastic/non-edible chew toys that we've tried so far, and will only chew on edible chews if I'm there to hold it for her.
Hi, so I have a 12 month old lagotto and he is constantly biting his fur on the front legs. I'm wondering if this is just boredom or a medical issue? He doesn't seem to be doing this on any other part of his body. You can see the difference of length in fur in the front legs.
I’m a 5mo old boy and I love my sweater
Got the pond dug today. Dog dug pond. Ducks said thanks.
Hello everyone, I am planning to get a lagott as a pet. Since my hobby is looking for mushrooms, I've had a wish for lagotto for many years, and now the conditions will be met for it to happen. I am interested in the experience of those of you who have a lagotta, how complex is it to teach him to look for truffles? Can lagotta be learned by oneself with persistent work, or is it still necessary to turn to experts? Also, I read that lagotta can be trained on other mushrooms, is that true? Can he, for example, be taught to point out where porcini mushrooms or some other mushrooms are? Do these smells get mixed up for him later, or does he know when he is told to look for a truffle, and when, for example, a boletus or some other mushroom?
Hi everyone!
I have a brand new puppy and I love him to the moon and back. That said he chews up everything including me. I’ve been working on bite inhibition and I think it’s going well for 10 weeks but he’s starting to chew up the corners of my bed and couch. Is there any kind of product or spray that will make him not want/less likely to chew up base boards and furniture? How did you puppy proof your furniture from you Lagator
P.S. I know this behavior is normal and he’s actually a really sweet well behaved boy. Just trying to set my and my pup up for success since it’s still early and he hasn’t fully hit the teething stage yet
Mac (18 months) and his kitty sister Maple.
The first year of Mac’s life, I was genuinely concerned that he’d traumatize our cat. She isn’t the type that runs and hides and Mac, being a lagotto puppy, took every moment he could to terrorize her.
But around 1 year, everything shifted. They are best buds, groom each other, and sleep together for hours.
I know I’m in the thick of puppyhood but man, this is hard.
My girl is 4 months old. She is losing baby teeth, fast growing her adult teeth, and getting bigger every day. So I very much empathise with her as I know she would uncomfortable and full of big emotions.
But each day presents a new challenge, and as much as I did my research and prep for a lagotto, she is really wearing my confidence thin.
We do scent walks, small bouts of play and exercise, lots of naps and training, but each day she will become hyperactive, chews everything, refuses to listen, digging everywhere and hiding from us. I know it’s all typical behaviour but there isn’t one day that goes by that isn’t difficult, and I struggle to see a light at the end of the puppy tunnel that leads to a life long companion.
I guess I’m looking for some reassurance that it gets better or easier! Or any tips that got you through those crazy puppy days would be appreciated as I’m feeling very anxious and in over my head!
Pic of my beautiful girl and her cute yet deceiving eyes 😅
She is about 6 months old, we got her directly from North Italy. The first week in her new home was full of learnings for her and us, but she is a smart one. At the moment we try to bite everything. She will soon be a super dog, I am sure.
Hi all,
I've heard rumblings about possible truffles in VA but can't find a lot of details. I have a girl who I would love to try this out with if there's anywhere remotely close to DC where this is possible. Anyone know more about this?
Today was a stressful day. Happy Mali is there to make it all better. He usually brings his monkey, this time it was his ball.
This has never been an issue till now but my dog enzo has became so overly clingy towards me and i love him very much just like for example when i go to the bathroom and shut the door he will paw and scratch and whine till i get out i cant shower without him freaking out at the other side of the door is there a way i can stop this he gives me no personal space its just out of nowhere
Hello,
Otto is having love-hate relationships with rocks. He love small ones as he can put it in his mouth and carry during our walk, but hates large ones.
When he locate a big one, like in this video, the party starts! Barking, whining, digging at and around, flipping and all around going crazy! Haha
Anyone elses Lagotto do this? Do you have ideas why?
Mine is that he is mad that he cannot take it with him, so he argues with it haha
Hey everyone!
We recently adopted our Lagotto, and she’s now 3 months old. Every time we’re outside, she’s obsessed with eating dead leaves or other plants in our backyard. Thankfully, I checked, and none of them are toxic to dogs.
However, I’m wondering if this behavior might indicate a nutritional deficiency or something else she’s lacking that’s driving her to seek out these plants.
Right now, there’s a lot of snow, and she’s surprisingly skilled at digging to find the exact plants or leaves she wants to eat. The problem is that whenever I let her eat them, she usually ends up vomiting, which is why I’d like to discourage it.
Has anyone else experienced this with their puppy? Any advice on how to handle it or figure out what’s going on would be greatly appreciated!
growing up
Bit random but does?anyone else sing to their lagotto?
When I sing the chorus "You are my sunshine; my only sunshine" by jonny cash
Rolo becomes transfixed 🤣🤣
I have a 14 month Lagotto and she is still having a soft puppy coat. Is that usuall? Today I met a 6m lagotto that has "normal", wiry coat
Our girl is 9.5 months and for the most part is still her rich chocolate brown. A little lightening is happing in her back and tail. Curious if they all turn beige and if so when that happens?
