Snap GUI permissions on Kubuntu 24.10

Hello everybody,

How i can manage with GUI Snap permissions?

Previously, it could be set in Discover.

Now even if I install the Snap Store, I don't see anything to set permissions.

The only thing that is here is the CLI method.

snap connections steam

Will the GUI method ever be available again?

Help with Proxies on Kubuntu (GreenTunnel)

How do I use proxies such as GreenTunnel (https://github.com/SadeghHayeri/GreenTunnel) on Kubuntu? I installed the edge version listed in the GitHub, and ran it using green-tunnel in terminal, yet I seem unable to access restricted websites such as YouTube (I am in Russia).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Discover does not open

Hello,

I got the problem that discover doesn't want to open. When I uninstall the snap backend, it opens, but I want to use snap in Discover.

When I run it using the command line it loggs:

fetch ratings! false
adding empty sources model QStandardItemModel(0x5cafca8b21b0)

Are there any fixes?

Regards,

~schemil053

Laptop keyboard and mouse no longer working.

I'm a beginner and just installed the latest kubuntu yesterday, it was working perfectly fine after.

Today I turned on my laptop (Dell xps 13) and my keyboard works in grub but once kubuntu has booted I can't do anything on the login screen, it's not frozen because the clock is working.

When I installed it yesterday all I did was try some themes and change wallpaper, update all in discover and then browsed on Firefox. I didn't delete or install anything that didn't come with kubuntu.

I saw many people had a similar problem but the troubleshooting I tried didn't work for me.

My attempts: My laptop is not a touchscreen model. Ctrl alt f2 does nothing. I entered this "sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-all" and it says is already the newest version.

Something that may be important is when I did the system summary in recovery mode it says under "lvm state" that "physical volume: not ok (BAD)". Is this correct? My laptop is 2-3 years old and only been used for school work, how can the ssd go bad already? Would that even affect my mouse and keyboard?

EDIT: I have found a workaround but not a fix, if I use x11 instead of. Wayland it works as normal. There must be some kind of misconfiguration but I'm too noob to fix it.

EDIT 2: Possibly fixed one thing. When using wayland after booting from recovery mode I saw a pop up about a GTK and QT IM MODULE and i unset both in terminal, i then changed the virtual keyboard to fcitx 5 wayland. The layout still switches to us after every reboot despite me deleting it from the layours in settings. I have spent too long on this and have no more patience to fix that today.

Is there any ETA for Plasma 6 to reach backports?

Hi! 24.10 is out and I wonder when Plasma 6 will reach backports. If 24.04 + Plasma 6 becomes real I'll make my way back to Kubuntu.

Canceled install at 92 anything to worry about?

The image install was stuck at 92 when downloading snap krita. So I quit it to unselect krita from install to grab it's flat pack instead later.

The system booted after I selected quit during the install. Is there anything I need to be concerned about or to to prevent issue of an incomplete install? Or was krita the last thing and everything is fine?

"Unable to create magic message" When using an 8bitdo Pro 2 controller, causes constant system sounds.

I get constant device connection and disconnection sounds, the only way to get it to stop is to either disconnect the device or tire the kernel out and get it to say "usb submit failed, daemon quit" after attempting on its own one too many times.

https://preview.redd.it/jjvk7i2ifyxd1.png?width=1078&format=png&auto=webp&s=8078534f3f3129ab0aa80917565d3ac2c052dac7

The reason I know it's the controller is that the following is what appears in the system logs every time it plays.

I was using the program sandboxed on a USB drive for 3 days before ditching Windows, but this is a new problem that I haven't experienced.

My assumption is that the controller's storage for custom profiles is being read as regular USB storage and the kernel is not liking it. (Due to the "unable to recieve magic message problem" online searches say its related to faulty USB storage)

Do you guys have any suggestions on what could fix this?

What does this mean? (Fcitx, Kwin, Wayland)

New install of Kubuntu, seems to operate fine. When logging into the DE, this notifcation appears:

"Fcitx should be launched by KWin under KDE Wayland in order to use Wayland input method frontend. This can improve the experience when using Fcitx on Wayland. To configure this..."

Why does this appear, what does it mean, and what action is required? Thanks.

Issues with sleeping

No pun intended. Its actually driving me mad that I can't put Kubuntu to sleep properly. It just turns off they keyboard and mouse but I can still hear the fans running. Can't wake it up after and pressing the power or the reset button don't do anything, I have to kill the power supply. Why can't basic things just work on Linux...

Problems with music player

I've been using rhythmbox forever on kde without problems (other than that it is an ugly app, but that's another story). But, since last weekend, it's causing me nothing but problems. Mainly, it hangs ... keeps on playing music (off my disk or internet radio), but the mouse options completely hang. Can't do simple stuff like stop the app, bring up the menu, etc.

I did create a new user on the system and it seems to run fine there.

So, I'm assuming (never a good idea) that I have a bad setting in my profile. Either in the rhythmbox settings or in audio.

Any suggestions as to where the problem might be?

Just switched from Pop!_OS to Kubuntu

I'm kinda new to Linux, and whenever I asked people where the best place to start was, pretty much everyone I knew said either PopOS or Mint.

Mint for whatever reason wouldn't work on my laptop (still have no idea why) so I settled with PopOS

At first I loved it (hell I still kinda do) but it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be, especially when it came to customization (kde was a pain to work with when it came to pop) so I ultimately switched to kubuntu

Now listen, I know on paper it really shouldn't be too much of a difference, PopOS, like kubuntu is ultimately a modified version of Ubuntu, especially since I used kde with Pop, but for some reason, I find kubuntu SIGNIFICANTLY more easy to use.

It's not as laggy, slightly less hardware intensive (honestly no clue why) and most importantly for me, because I love customization, kde WASN'T a pain in the ass, tho that's probably to be expected since kubuntu is literally made with kde in mind

Honestly, I have no idea why PopOS, a distro thats literally known as one of the easiest distros that even a middle schooler could learn easily, was a bigger headache to me than kubuntu, but I'm glad I switched

This isn't me dissing PopOS btw, Im not saying it's bad, it really isn't, I'm just saying kubuntu is slightly better because customization is not a headache

How and where to share feedback?

Hello Users, I've just dual-booted from Windows 11 to kUbuntu, and just wanted to know if any of you know where I can share some feedback they should think about adding and supporting for QoL changes?

One Example would be to have a default enable of the Touchpad "Tap", instead of having to change the root files a bit, or adding in gesture swipes that are present on many other devices (this case, I've got the older model of the Lenovo Legion 5, but I do miss my gesture swipe of going back a page with two fingers)

So yeah, anyone know where I can share some feedback?

unable to wake up from sleep on kubuntu 24.04.1 LTS

Hallo everybody

I have a really strange issue .

My lenovo T480s connected to a philips monitor via USB-c with integrated docking. I've modified the Bios so that I'm currently able to power-up the PC without opening the lid , just switching on the monitor.

this is possible because the Bios has a power on AC feature and the monitor supply the laptop when it is switched on

the issue is with the sleep: after entering the sleep mode I've no way to wake up without opening the lid (opening the lid and pressing enter will work.. but I do not want to open the lid)

if I switch OFF--ON the monitor I see the laptop led blinking three times but then nothing happens and it remains in sleep.

any idea on how to solve it?

24.10 EnvyControl not working

I was testing Kubuntu 24.10 today on Lenovo Legion 16APH8 and EnvyControl is not working. 24.04 is broken too. Last working version was 23.10. EnvyControl works in Fedora 41 KDE and CachyOS. Nobara seems to suffer under same issue. Original power draw is 37W with Nouveau in idle, after EnvyControl install it goes down to 23-25W, but should be 7-8W.

Kubuntu switching audio profiles upon monitor turn off /on.

I've got a laptop running Kubuntu 24.10. I use a Dell monitor with it. Every time the display turns off and turns back on (only happens when this monitor is connected ) the audio profile changes to a useless profile that doesn't contain the laptop speakers and I have to manually change the profile again( Didn't happen in 24.04, so I think it should have a fix). I tried a lot of things, almost broke my audio (did, and had to restore from timeshift) but still no answer. And no, it's not the kernel, I already tried restarting with 6.8 and once screen goes black and turns back on.. Boom. Audio profile switches. What do I do? Pulse audio or pipe wire? Alsa or wire plumber? I can't seem to find where the config file I need to fix this is. I've been fixing a lot of bugs that I found by editing the configs(a sddm error and a lock screen error) but this one is still happening and I'm kinda stuck.

Any way to save battery charge limit setting?

I find myself having to change the batter charge limit every time I reboot the laptop, since it gets reset back to 100% on its own. Is there any way to save it once and for all? thank you in advance.

Serious graphic laggy issue of KDE with Nvidia 560 proprietary driver

It seems to be very laggy movement of mouse/window and any other component after enable the independent Nvidia device with 560 driver, the whole system are running under 20~30Hz either in wayland or x11

My pc setup:

  1. AMD R7 7700 with integrated graphics(disabled after nvidia driver being installed)

  2. Nvidia 4060 Ti with latest 560 proprietary driver(marked as "tested" on kubuntu driver installer)

  3. Kubuntu 24.10, fresh new installed, in Wayland mode.

All of these following drivers have been tried: 535, 545, 555, 560.

Kubuntu LTS

Sorry if the answer to this question should be obvious, but I was wondering if the LTS for Kubuntu lasts as long as Ubuntu's does? I'm using Ubuntu right now but I really like KDE and I wanted to try it out but I just wanted to take some safety precautions first since I heard that the support isn't as long as Ubuntu's is.

Thanks!
