Ive been using PopOS with the KDE desktop environment and so far liking it more than gnome but Im wondering if I should switch to kubuntu since theyre both based on ubuntu and ofc it ships with KDE plasma by default but Im worried it wont be supported out of the box on my XPS 15 7590 driver wise like PopOS and Im wondering if KDE plasma is more optimised on kubuntu than PopOS?
Hi all,
Is there any word on whether Firefox in 24.04 will be snap or deb (provided by Mozilla)?
Considering Kubuntu 24.04 switches to Calamares installer, it's not that crazy to think they will do st differently from Ubuntu.
Thanks.
I got my new work notebook setup and have a triple monitor setup at home. My Notebook is a ThinkPad p16v1 and the monitors are connected via a generic USB-C dock.
Before i left for Vacation everything was working fine. I had them in order A-B-C, where C is the Notebook screen. Now I've come home and I am unable to reconnect the third monitor. It doesn't matter which combination I have. Two screens are always fine. As soon as i enable the third and put it into relative place within the display configuration everything breaks. I can't do stuff, everythings shifted and the third screen never actually shows something. That stays until the changes are reverted by the settings. Which bothers me the most about that is that until i login the, all screens work just fine. Login screen, all three are enable by default.
Does anybody know a solution to that?
I have Ubuntu on two desktops. It works flawlessly. I wanted something similar for a 10 year old laptop that I have. Weylus was easy to install on Ubuntu. It was easy to install on Lubuntu (left it because it doesn't seem stable)... and I also have a 16 year old laptop running MX-23 Fluxbox with Weylus working like a charm.
Does anyone know a fix for Kubuntu? Am I going to find a lot of things don't work on this OS?
Thank you.
I recently switched to Kubuntu from windows and when I tried to login postman after installing it from software center, I couldn't. I have logged in mozilla firefox and set it as my default browser but still when I click "Check if you're signed in" button in "Sign in from your browser to continue" page, it shows a pop up "You're not signed in". Is there a different way to sign in postman.
Hi. I’m experiencing strange graphics issues with some apps in Kubuntu 22.04, not present with previous rig (5800x3d). Should I disable iGPU from BIOS? Tnx
I need a VPN to watch some U.S shows, but I can't find any safe and free ones that work on Kubuntu.
I was unable to get kde online accounts working, which is essential to my workflow. Apparently the package responsible kinda broke. I couldn't get signond 8.61-1 updated manually,so I was stuck. I really enjoyed the customization, but my system felt a bit fragile, and was a little frustrating.
My experience with kubuntu was mutch closer to my experience with debian and lubuntu; a lot more troubleshooting. I do enjoy KDE.But alas the timing is not suitable with finals coming up
Package: signond 8.59+17.10.20170606-0ubuntu3 amd64
Os: kubuntu 22.04 ;23.04
As the title states, I can’t launch any of my steam games apart from L4D2. Not even Days Gone which is labeled as Platinum on protondb. I’ve tried older versions of proton, proton ge, I checked that my drivers are up to date, and I have a modern system so I know it’s not that. I even checked my permissions and it’s all fine. I’ve also uninstalled and installed the games again.
I click on “Play” then it switches to “running” and then goes back to saying “Play.”
There’s an older thread that I found but nothing there fixed my issue.
I have an rtx 3060.
Has anyone had this issue and fixed it?
A few days ago i installed Kubuntu 23.10 on my MSI GE73 Raider. Today i noticed that the notebook runs a bit hot while i only had two firefox tabs open. Then i noticed that one fan is running on full blast while the second one is barely doing anything. I already tried fancontrol with the result that it does not recognice any pwm controllable fans.
I recently upgraded to Kubuntu 22.04 on a MSI Stealth GS66. I have an issue whereby the drop-down menus for many applications are spawned and then immediately disappear as soon as the mouse moves over them. Example applications that are affected include thunderbird, zoom, and libreoffice impress (right click menus in the slides area disappear). The firefox menus work fine though. Has anyone encountered this before? Unfortunately it is rendering many of my commonly used applications impossible to use.
Good morning. I have an issue with the system handler of Kubuntu 22.04 LTS. I have installed Zoom for university lectures but unfortunately when I click on the zoommtg link it links me to ark archiving tool because I selected it by mistake on system handler window. Now I can't access to the system handler to associate zoommtg back to Zoom. If I remove ark from terminal the link works. If anyone has some piece of advice I will appreciate it. Thanks in advance
Installed AMD drivers (with ROCm ecc ecc) but no OpenGL. Is this apart? Should I d/l from mesa? Tnx
I just decided to take the dive into Linux seeing as gaming has gotten a huge boost with Proton. I landed on Kubuntu after some research and for the most part I have been pretty happy with it.
The main issue I have after a couple days of using it is all of the windows I have open just seem to lock up (Browser, Steam, Discord) and I'm unable to take any action with them. Earlier today I had a variation of this where it was just Firefox that locked up on me. The system isn't frozen though to be clear. For just 2 days of using this OS, I've had it happen 4 times or so which seems like a lot.
I am running an EVGA RTX 3080 with 535.161.07 drivers. Not sure if there's any other information that would be helpful, but I can supply anything that would be helpful. I appreciate any help as I'm just getting into this ecosystem. Looking around before my post I saw it could be related to KDE and Nvidia possibly, but I wanted to check in case there was anything else I could be doing.
Heyla,
I did the update to 24.04. It took some fooling around, but it worked kinda flawlessly. The only thing I am stuck with is some inconsistency in sources. At first, I got a whole list of duplicates after 'apt update'. It seems /etc/apt/sources.list has moved to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu.sources. Uncommenting all sources in sources.list works, but that gives inconsistencies in the Discover tool and Software sources GUI.
I guess that comes with using an early beta, but if anyone knows of a work around, that would be appreciated.
Hello all. I have recently installed kubuntu 22.04 with libreoffice 7.3.5.2. Most of the mp4 files I have in my Impress documents (odp format) are working just fine, but a few of them look like static when playing (the audio plays fine). I have not been able to determine what the difference is between the mp4 files that work and those that don't. Additionally, the mp4 files not working properly in Impress do play correctly when using a regular player, such as vlc. I know that Impress uses gstreamer to play videos. Is it possible I'm missing codecs not installed by default? All the movies in my Impress documents worked perfectly under Kubuntu 20. I have also tried reverting back to Libreoffice 6.4.7.2 (which is what I was using in Kubuntu 20) but the same issue persists. I would appreciate any help/advice.
So I initially had windows 7 on my PC and wanted to install kubuntu 22.04 on it as a dual boot. I only have one HDD so i created a partition for it by using shrink disc.I Booted into the usb to install, resized the partion i created and installed it on there. Everything goes great and the installation completes then it tells me to reboot. When i did reboot i get a "this is not a bootable disk error". I cant boot into neither my windows 7 nor kubuntu, only into the bootable usb.
I am on legacy BIOS with no option to change to uefi (its an older computer). Hp pavilion g7 -1076nr notebook pc 4gb ram intel pentium. I have no idea what to do now so help would be appreciated.
I'm currently running Kubuntu on the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 and whenever I run any games, it seems to run EXTREMELY hot (to the point I'm concerned about damage to components). The fan speed seems to remain fairly low, however, and much lower than it can get when operating Windows. Is there any way I can adjust the fan speeds? It seems to be the Intel CPU that is of particular concern.
Sorry for the silly question: In need to install drivers from AMD’s site (for Da Vinci Resolve) but I’m having errors. Might be latest release is not compatible with the kernel? In this case I’d prefer install an older version rather than update the kernel. Sorry for not posting more infos but I’m not on my desktop. I might post them later. Tnx
Up to version 8.04, Kubuntu had its own branded desktop wallpapers, as well as its own KDE theme.
Today, it just uses KDE’s stock backgrounds and the default Breeze theme.
I just learned this old (but gold) tradition is set to return in 24.04 — for which a wallpaper contest has been opened.
I am very happy as Kubuntu was my first ever distro!
I'm installing kubuntu and trying to do a dual boot but when I tried to install kubuntu on my c drive where windows is I realized I couldn't I either had the choice to resize my hhd or use the entirety of my SSD which I think would get rid of windows that I have installed on there, why is that? Can I fix it after disk setup? Because I already clicked on the resizing of my hhd and I don't want kubuntu to be slower because of that.
When booting my laptop, it shows like this for long time and then it login. How can I solve this booting issue?
On KUbuntu 22.04 LTS (x11) I swapped out a NVidia card (1050 Ti) for an AMD card (7900 xt).
Things have mostly gone smoothly (both different sized monitors ID'd, both in the correct relative position) but the main menu panel and widgets have been removed completely from the desktop.
Is it possible to restore the previous configuration with all the panel customization and widgets I had before?
Can i switch the location where kubuntu is installed? i installed it accidentally on my hhd drive and i resized it even and i would like to put it on my ssd.
I have selected the force launch with compatibility software but when i press play it it runs the executable and nothing happens, the running button changes into the green play button once more, no game works! what do i do?
Hi, I’m going to replace my 4060 with a 7600:
Is that correct? Tnx
(Kubuntu 22.04 LTS)
When I click 'a' key, it types 'aoaoa'. Similary for 'z' and 'q' keys. How can I overcome this problem?
