I had many problems, here is what worked for me:
Hardware:
Click on your login username, then the gear in the corner. Click the line that does not say Wayland.
Open "Software & Updates" go to "Additional Drivers" > select Nvidia-driver-550 (proprietary, tested) and reboot
sudo apt-get install nvidia-settings-updates
Open Nvidia Settings
Go to "Prime Profiles" and select "NVIDIA (Performance Mode)"
Ubuntu Settings > Power
Setting the power profile too low significantly affects performance.
Do NOT set it to Power Saver, this will cause lag.. at least in my case.
You can check this using the HardInfo tool:
sudo apt install hardinfo
Open HardInfo
Under: Computer > Graphics, it should say "NVIDIA"
Reboot

Does ubuntu need a command line to set it up?
Currently running Ubuntu 22.04 on a Lenovo Yoga C series laptop and I'm trying to project my screen using the Netgear Push2TV. This works effortlessly on windows. But I'm struggling to get it working on Ubuntu. Under the display settings the tab named "Displays" is unaccessible. No idea why.
Installed a flatpak version of gnome displays? I think it's called. Allows for detecting TVs to project to, but so far Push2TV is not showing up. Only a 4k TV shows up (with little to no information - which makes me wonder if it is an actual device and not a default option).
Any help appreciated
Hi all, I'm on Ubuntu and need an accounting software, currently I'm using GMUCASH but it's more fitted for family budgeting apparently, and I need something more suited for a small business. All the available ones need subscriptions to use them -_- so I'm looking for something free or cheap (or hacked if possible).
Thank you all
After switching to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS a few months ago, I moved all my writing from Scrivener/MS Word to open-source tools like LibreOffice and Manuskript. That worked fine until I started collaborating with a school that sometimes demands official .docx forms “must be opened in MS Word.”
I tried OnlyOffice, but certain elements, like checkboxes, didn’t render correctly. In the end, I had to dig out my old Mac to run genuine MS Office, which felt like a failure in my mission to stay Linux-only. Now I’m wondering if WPS Office might be my best bet, it’s known for strong docx compatibility, and I’ve also heard about optional AI tools that might help with editing.
Does anyone here use WPS Office on Ubuntu (especially 22.04) for tricky .docx forms?
My setup: Intel i5 8500 / Nvidia GTX 1660 / 16GB RAM, running GNOME. Any insights or tips would be greatly appreciated.
I tried installing drivers on windows 8.1 and the lag interface disappeared. When tried with ubuntu i could not fiind any driver to install on it to remove the lag interface.
I run a 1660 Super with Ubuntu 25.04 and yesterday, my machine bricked. I managed to get it up and running on the X.org Nouveaux drivers, but it's running super sluggish. Ubuntu only lets me choose between the 535 and the 560 driver, but there seems to be a problem with the 560 driver.
Uninstalling everything Nvidia and then trying to manually install the 535 driver, the linux-modules-nvidia-535-generic package tries to install the linux-modules-nvidia-560-generic package as a dependency, which fails:

I'm at my wits end. Any ideas?
Hello, I have a problem where I can’t connect my pc to the ubuntu remote server where it says “ssh: my ip address port 22: Connection time out” Though I deactivated the firewall both pc and ubuntu server but not in router. So like, maybe or not if I should change my router ip to public… Did also ping the ip of my ubuntu server but no avail. — “Destination host unreachable” Can someone help me here? Cheers!
I'm kinda a noob. Been using ubuntu for a little bit but never felt super comfortable with the command line. Trying to expand my knowledge.
I was just wondering if this was a valid sequence.
Sudo apt-get update && upgrade -y && reboot
Would this work?
i'm running into this error while trying to use tkinter. tried to sudo apt-get install python3-tk but still same problem.

What may be current status regarding iGPU driver for Ryzon 7 7000, 7840HS. In use is Ubuntu Server 22.04.5 LTS with HWE version installed today. Going to switch to kernel 6.8 from 5.15.
Screen resolution is that high one can't read text on TTY. Native resolution is 2880x1800. Same Ubuntu however kernel 5.15.0-131 - it was possible to set 1920x1080 in grub configuration and to have its effects - acceptable resolution to work ergonomically. It became ineffective with update to 6.8. Grub yet kernel boot keep the resolution as in customization, the transition to phase of systemd-boot is however accompanied by resolution switch to display physical one.
"update-initramfs -u" throws a series of warnings "possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/amdgpu/blabla" - there are more than 500 items in this directory, needed ones apparently not present. No AMD gpu drivers were installed on the past.
... and by "best" I mean best for me, my time, my hardware, and level of wanting to constantly tinker. I completed my first full Ubuntu install plus or minus 2 years ago on a 2019 MacBook Air. It was a fun challenge with the necessary workarounds with the T2 issue. I tested it in a VM for (honestly) 10 minutes and decided to do the dual boot... that turned into a "you now only have Ubuntu" boot because I didn't take my time formatting. You live, you learn, and thankfully I had backed everything up to iCloud pre-install.
Tore it down, built it up again; tried a few beginner methods of partitioning the drives, tear down, etc., rinse & repeat. I was able to learn bits and pieces along the way, and that was an honest joy since the main goal was to learn something new.
I kept running Ubuntu for all but 3 months since and migrated to Mint since the fall. A few weeks back I got the itch to try the archinstall
script and soon realized that, though it removed some pain points often mentioned for a first-timer's install, constant f*ckery wasn't for me. So, I tried Debian only to learn that my 2024 P16s is a little too new for stable and I didn't wanna run into a similar issue as Arch where it needed constant reassurance.
I'll get to the point: I quickly installed Ubuntu server on my machine last night, ran some updates and installs, and threw gnome on it. Happy to be back because it's familiar and does what I want. No Canonical, no snaps, no fiddling, many less wiki toilet reading hours.
TL;DR: Used Ubuntu before, used Mint, screw Arch, back to my happy place.

Can I get the old mixed theme that has a dark window title whilst the rest of the window remains in light?
I don't like this new direction, and honestly, I don't think I even want to update from 19.04 if it's not possible. Does anyone then have any idea on how I can still continue to use 19.04 after EOL?
Hey everyone, I’m working on a program that needs to check if an input field is focused on the active window. Is there any way I could do that?
im getting the message
"oh no! something is wrong. a problem has occured and the system cant recover. please contact a system admin"
after doing the update
ive tried other solutions but i cant even get into the terminal cus ctrl+alt+f3 does nothing for me and esc/shift while booting did pring up something for a split second but not anymore
i have some important files on there and i dont really want to do a fresh installation if thats possible, can anyone help me lol. i was going to do a backup right after this too
or is my laptop completely gone which please i hope thats not the case
I have the Dell G15 5530 Laptop with the following specs(for ref.)-
Processor - i7 13650HX
GPU - NVIDIA 4060 8GB
RAM - 16GB
I have tried dual booting several times to Ubuntu 22,04 and 24.04 alongside the existing Windows 11.
I have Fast startup off, Secure boot off, Memory integrity check off, Switched to AHCI mode.
BUT every time i dual boot to Ubuntu no matter the version, randomly the cursor and the keyboard (the whole screen) freezes in ubuntu.
The error logs show multiple things - nvidia drm issues, wifi driver(iwlwifi), cpu softlock issues.
I tried reinstalling drivers, changing Nvidia driver versions etc but nothing works, still freezes randomly.
This never happened on windows.
Tried Install alongside windows and also tried manual partitions still the issue is the same.
I can find the solution to this anywhere, Can someone please help me out on this so I can finally Use ubuntu on my laptop!
I must have accidentally hit some hotkey combo: suddenly all my windows auto-tile every time I ALT-TAB. Rebooting does not help. Any help to get me out of this mess would be much appreciated!
This is what it looks like: https://snipboard.io/wJkPAV.jpg
Is this just me or is this insanely buggy behavior? Who wants all their windows to change layout just because you ALT-TAB between them? (Added bonus: Tiling algorithm completely bugs out once you open a few too many windows.)

Recently installed Ubuntu Server 24.04.1 LTS on an old computer for use as just a home server. There were some issues getting the install to work as I didn't realise that after booting it switched to the DVI port, but in the end I think I installed it correctly.
I plugged the computer into my router so it had a connection and after the login prompt the whole screen just went off and eventually the no signal text appeared.
I have tried two separate graphics cards, resetting CMOS by removing battery and with jumpers, turning on without hard drive installed, turning on with USBs used for install (both the Ubuntu Server and a Windows 11 USB), and two separate monitors along with all the outputs ports on both graphics cards.
At this point I don't really know how to proceed, unfortunately the CPU does not have integrated graphics and I don't think the motherboard has the ability to update BIOS from a USB without display.
Additionally while it is plugged into my router and the green lights on the ethernet ports are lit, it doesnt seem to appear on the network from my router settings and I do not know what IP it would be if I tried to SSH (which I am also unfamiliar with).
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone. I’ve been at this for ages, so maybe you guys can help.
I have a Laptop running Ubuntu 24.04 and would like to connect to it over my LAN from my iPad with the Windows RDP Client. So far : No joy. Here is my situation.
But when I try to connect my RDP the connection is denied.
Just to be sure
I have created an extra user aside from the one that is logged in locally.
I have tried connecting through port 3389 and 3390
I have tried running JUST the remote login feature AND the “Desktop sharing” feature at the same time.
On the remote login tab I have tried both enabling and disabling the username/password setting.
I have tried to connect with the user that is currently logged in AND with a new user I created.
The firewall isn’t active
There is no Xrdp service running
The laptop is connected to the lan and I can ping it from my ipad.
The error code i keep getting is
We couldn't connect to the remote PC. This might be due to an expired password. If this keeps happening, contact your network administrator for assistance. Error code: 0x207
Any suggestions ?
Hi, I was recently granted remote access to a machine hosted by my University, in order to use their infra for my project work. This device is a docker image of ubuntu-minimal, with absolutely nothing on it.
What I wanted to ask was, is there a guide on how could i proceed with setting it in order to start working with python and cuda and maybe run machine learning models on it via python + torch + cuda + cudnn
if there is someway i could be helped in maybe installation of drivers and in making sure I don't miss any steps, that would be very helpful
TIA!
I am a beginner, my lecturer told me to make a distro, can you tell me how to do it clearly? Please help me, thank you
So. I have a laptop with ubuntu 22.10. It's an HP 2000. I'm trying to get it to update to 24.04. Nothing I do works. The furthest I get is with "sudo do-release-upgrade" and the same stupid message appears. "An upgrade from 'kinetic' to 'noble' is not supported with this tool."
How the heck am I supposed to update?! I've tried every stupid thing I can find online. A clean install would be nice...if I had a spare USB drive (not a 22.10 DVD) laying around.
I can login to ssh but not sftp anymore for some reason, what do I do?
Just installed ubuntu on my system with ubuntu pro attached few days earlier. Just wanted to know the things that i should do to keep my system healthy and performing optimal always. The reason i switched from windows 10 to ubuntu is because of the nearing end of support date. Wanted to start early to build some knowledge on how to use it.
Hello I have a question for anyone who can answer. My keyboard for my laptop I have works perfectly fine in windows. When I dualboot into Kali or Ubuntu I have to use an external keyboard to type because the keyboard either doesn't type or types the same letter repetativly example: T= ttttttttt (Yes I've gone into settings and turned repeat keys off but it is important to note that the input is almost a full two seconds delayed)
I have re installed Linux multiple times updated drivers individually and all inputs together. I have booted into recovery and updated everything. I have done every possible remedy that is accessible on the web and Ubuntu support page.
One last note keyboard works perfectly fine in BIOS and pre boot screens when picking which platform to boot from. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I have Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS running on my Orange Pi 5 (Joshua Riek Ubuntu-Rockchip). I'm interested in running LXC. I tried initializing sudo lxd init
but I get this error:
Error: Failed to create local member network "lxdbr0" in project "default": The DNS and DHCP service exited prematurely: exit status 2 ("dnsmasq: failed to create listening socket for [MAC] Address already in use")
I think maybe because I am running Pi-Hole with Unbound on the host that this might be the cause of the issue. If this is the case, is there a workaround?
I've recently built a new PC and installed ubuntu 24.04 on it. My problem is that I cannot boot into ubuntu "normally", I can only access ubuntu in one of two ways:
My PC configuration:
What I have tried:
I can live with permanently have nomodeset in my GRUB, but it feels a bit inconvenient and unsettling. So, if anyone has got this and have it fixed, can you share your solution?
I started learning about Linux and wanted to download Ubuntu right away cause it's begginer friendly. I don't know much about anything actually, but I am curious enough to try to understand. What do you think? I wanted to reboot my machine to Linux already cause virtualization is boring
