Kentucky has four standards for political parties and two different definitions of what a "political party" is. It's confusing.

https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/chapter.aspx?id=37589

KRS 118.015 says:

(1) A "political party" is an affiliation or organization of electors representing a political policy and having a constituted authority for its government and regulation, and whose candidate received at least twenty percent (20%) of the total vote cast at the last preceding election at which presidential electors were voted for.

(10) "Political organization" means a political group not constituting a political party within the meaning of subsection (1) of this section but whose candidate received two percent (2%) or more of the vote of the state at the last preceding election for presidential electors.

KRS 118.551 says:

Definition of political party. As used in KRS 118.561 to 118.651, "political party" means each political party whose candidates received ten percent (10%) or more of the vote for Governor and Lieutenant Governor in the preceding election, or has a registration equal to ten percent (10%) or more of the total registered voters in the Commonwealth.

Note that that does not include KRS 118.555! 118.561 to 118.651 refer to presidential preference primary elections, so this seems to indicate that without getting 10% in the governor's primary (or 10% of voter registration, which is, of the four standards listed, by far the most daunting), there's no access to....presidential primaries?

Anybody have any ideas about how this shakes down in practice? Obviously it's meant to discourage 3rd parties, but it's also clearly not well written.

Political Organizing Resources

I am looking for anyone with political organizing experience or any resources that might aid with grassroots organizing here in Kentucky. I am a student at UK and a Lexington native looking to form an organization with the goal of electing local Democrats throughout the commonwealth. We need to get to work y'all.

Why is Thomas Massie trying to terminate the Department of Education?

I was browsing trending bills on govtrack, as one does, and I came across H.R. 899: To terminate the Department of Education. It seems like his primary reason for introducing this bill is to save costs. It looks like this isn't the first time he's submitted this bill. It also looks like it has no chance of being enacted. It's also wild to me that this bill has 33 cosponsors.

Education in Kentucky is primarily controlled by Kentucky. About 80% of Kentucky's K-12 public school funding comes from state and local funding.

Kentucky has below average levels of literacy. Kentucky is also typically in the bottom half of education rankings.

It seems obvious to me that whatever Kentucky's current approach to education is, clearly isn't working. If anything, there should be more investment in education for Kentucky.

I'm not from Kentucky. I didn't know of Thomas Massie prior to this.

Clearly this is performative. Clearly this guy is a bozo.

How is he representing Kentucky? Do people like this guy? Is Kentucky just very gerrymandered?

Absentee ballot?

Say I request an absentee ballot because I initially wasn’t gonna be in my county to vote in person, but - due to plans changing - I actually end up being able to vote in person, can the absentee ballot remain unused, or would it absolutely have to be used no matter where I’m at on Election Day?

Exposing the Dark Side of the Masonic Political Network in Kentucky

Exposing the Dark Side of the Masonic Political Network in Kentucky

I feel compelled to bring attention to a deeply concerning issue that has been affecting vulnerable communities: the alleged activities of a Masonic political network that operates through a system of favors and manipulation. This network reportedly targets disabled individuals, political adversaries, and minorities, using their influence to mock and undermine these groups.

  1. Favor System: It has been suggested that this network operates on a system of favors, where political connections are leveraged to gain advantages at the expense of marginalized individuals. This creates an environment where those in power can exploit their positions, leading to systemic discrimination and abuse.

  2. Infiltration of Law Enforcement: There are alarming claims that this network has infiltrated state and local police departments. This infiltration raises serious questions about the integrity of law enforcement and the potential for abuse of power. When those meant to protect the community are compromised, it puts everyone at risk.

  3. Violence and Coercion: Disturbingly, discussions have emerged regarding the potential for state police to engage in acts of violence, including torture, for financial gain. Such actions are not only unethical but also illegal, and they highlight a grave misuse of authority.

  4. Manipulation of Vulnerable Individuals: The network allegedly targets individuals with limited mental capacity, potentially manufacturing situations that could lead to severe consequences, including wrongful accusations or even murder. This exploitation of vulnerable populations is both shocking and unacceptable.

  5. Use of Fusion Centers: The involvement of Fusion Centers in these activities raises further concerns. These centers, designed for information sharing among law enforcement agencies, should not be used as tools for political manipulation or to carry out illicit activities.

It is crucial that we shine a light on these allegations and hold those in power accountable. We must advocate for transparency and integrity within our political and law enforcement systems. If you have experienced or witnessed any of these activities, I encourage you to speak out and share your story. Together, we can work towards creating a safer and more just society for everyone.

Let’s discuss how we can raise awareness about these issues and support those who are being targeted. Your thoughts and experiences are valuable in this conversation.

The Dark Side of Political Favor Trading in Senior Community Centers

The Dark Side of Political Favor Trading in Senior Community Centers

In a fictional scenario, consider a political leader who is facing a tight election and recognizes the importance of securing votes from a local community center that serves a large number of elderly residents. To gain the support of this demographic, the leader approaches the center's director, who has influence over the members. The political leader offers the director a personal favor: if they can deliver 300 votes from the community center, the leader will ensure that the center receives a substantial grant for much-needed renovations and programming. This promise is particularly appealing to the director, who has been struggling to secure funding for the center's activities. However, the leader also has a hidden agenda. They ask the director to keep an eye on a particular individual in the community—someone who has been outspoken against the leader's policies. This individual is innocent and simply advocates for transparency and better services for the elderly. In exchange for the votes, the director agrees to monitor this person closely, reporting any activities or comments that could be framed as negative or disruptive. The director might even encourage community members to share their grievances about this individual, painting them as a troublemaker who is undermining the community's well-being. As the election approaches, the director uses their position to spread rumors and misinformation about the individual, creating a narrative that positions them as a threat to the community center's funding and programs. This surveillance and targeted campaign against the innocent individual not only distracts from the political leader's shortcomings but also consolidates the director's power within the community. In this way, the political leader successfully secures the votes they need while simultaneously using the director to carry out a personal witch hunt against an innocent person, all under the guise of protecting the community. This scenario highlights the unethical tactics that can arise when political leaders exploit community dynamics for their gain.

Andy for President!

I think I’d be a landslide. He is a young, thoughtful, respectable person. That’s really all we need right now.

How should law enforcement handle guard dogs during a welfare check?

I was in a recent situation where my two farm guard dogs were vocal and territorial during a welfare check.

The welfare check was a child unintentionally in S.O.S on an iPhone.

A unit was dispatched to my property due to not receiving verbal confirmation of the emergency services call.

Upon arrival the officer pulls into my drive, proceeds to pull into my neighbors drive- speak with her, pull back into my drive & then leave.

No confirmation on the wellbeing of anyone was made. The officer neglected his welfare check and left the premises.

The officer states he did not proceed with the welfare check due to hostile animals.

How would you have handled this welfare check?
