Today is Cyber Monday, and LMC Truck has zero promo codes available. I happen to need a few things for my shitbox that I was thinking about waiting until after Christmas to order, but then I thought "oh maybe I can get a good deal... free shipping maybe (!!!) from LMC?" Absolutely not. My $200 order that weighs approximately 1.18 lbs is gonna require $40 in shipping, because their shipping model is based off your order dollar amount rather than order weight.
I buy from LMC a lot, but their shipping structure makes it more affordable to wait for a pretty sizable order rather than buying the little parts here and there. One of my orders was $2800, and I called to see if they had a promo code for even like 5% off, just something to knock the sting down a notch but was given a hard no. I myself have spent nearly $4k with them in the past year, the least we could on Black Friday or Cyber Monday is... literally anything more than absolutely nothing.
Thanks for letting me rant. I got to spend all day working on my Blazer today, so it's not all bad here!
Just tell me I'm a bonehead. I've been a Chevy guy my whole life and I feel like I'm pretty solid mechanically. I have a 1979 K5, 350 SBC and T350 trans. For the past couple of months, I've been replacing the body panels and some interior parts, so I haven't been driving it quite as much. I drove it back in early October to meet a buddy for lunch. Today, I needed to move the Blazer to the backyard because my wife thought our front yard looked too "hillbilly?" I dunno... she's probably right.
Anyway, I go to start the Blazer and it's turning over but wouldn't stay running. I kinda thought maybe I flooded it a bit, so I just cranked it and it started up but still would not idle. I was able to move it, by keeping a light foot on the gas pedal and the other foot on the brakes, to within about 5 feet of where I needed it when it died and just would not start again. This time, I'd turn the key and the starter solenoid would click and I'd lose power to the entire truck for about 30 seconds - no dome light, no lights on the dash, nothing. Pull the key out, curse a little bit, shotgun a Keystone, then put the key back in and I have power to the dash (and my bright LED dome light). Turn the key, same thing. I think the solenoid took a shit.
If the solenoid crapped out on me, could that affect my idle? I would assume it could since the distributor is on the other side of the solenoid but it's like the solenoid is resetting itself, so to speak, which I've never really seen before. Anyway, I'm a little tipsy so if you'd like any more information to help with a diagnosis I'd be happy to provide. I've already ordered a new solenoid from Rock Auto and if it's not that, I'm only out $30 but I'd at least like to know if I'm barking up the right tree.
Thanks fellow the great community, fellow Blazers!
Got an ‘89 Blazer and it came with a six inch rough country lift. Definitely lives up to its name and rides like shit. Would I be better off just ditching the blocks in the back and replacing the factory leaf springs with 52 inch leaf springs? Maybe a shackle flip too? I understand the ride will never be as smooth as factory height, but anything is better than rough country blocks at this point. Thanks for the advice.
Cool story:
I’ve wanted one since I was little kid…Ended up at a friends and saw this K5. A few days later I (sorta joking) told him I’d trade him for an old car - his grandparents car - that we’ve had since 1981. He said yes, and it went from there. He put on new springs, shocks, battery, alternator, oem seats, center console, carb, grill, wheels, tires, exhaust, wheel alignment, and more into it. In the end I picked it up for 4K.
‘81, 454 (6k miles on motor and tranny), 6” with 35’s. It needs some body work as a little prior work was subpar but i’m gonna paint it within the next year or so.
I’m enjoying the addiction and I’m sure I’ll be picking brains on here for quite some time!
Hi guys new French guy here!
I would really love to have a K5, always dreamed of having one since….many years. I first tried to have one in 1996, but was not payed enough at the time...
I found which looks like really clean, but would like your advices.
It would be as a second car, to enjoy life while driving.
This one is a former M1009, all transformed as a “civilian K5”, 6.2L diesel with Banks turbo, around 25000Mi, TH400 and NP205, with Dana 44 in the front, Dana 60 14 bolts in the back, ratio 4.56, 4 separate cylinder shocks, remote lock for doors, 35X12.5X16.5 wheels.
I would like to know if I can drive on the highway with this configuration without harming the engine (80Mi/H max in France) i.e what would be a reasonable speed with this one, if there are some stuff to check (like the steering) and is it a good choice?
And also, would it be possible to add air conditioning in it?
Thanks for your help!
I need to replace the bed cap thingy it's in decent condition (there isnt any rust spots) but water gets through inside(I don't know the official part name) I have no idea where to begin and my dad says the steering column need
Has anyone made their own interior panels for the rear? Mine are just old and falling apart , what materials have yall used and diy tutorial anywhere u know of? Ive searched and nothing , its for a 78 k5 if that matters or if they differ from the rest
Anybody know where I can get a build sheet for my 1988 K5? From what I can tell its got Silverado trim Cruise Tilt etc. everything but electric windows in the passenger doors. The back is electric. I am wondering if there was an option for that or special order or just has been modified over the years. Dont see any evidence of it in the wiring though.
I bought a 1977 k5 blazer a few years back and the guy who owned before me sealed the back of it off, is there drawings or partial tubs/panels that could help cut it open again and make the top fit correctly so it can be a true blazer again?
I’m in NorCal I’m wondering if anyone has a solid part blazer they wanna sell for under 1000 I’m very broke… please let me know or help me out a bit
I need all of them. What's the company you like? LMC use to carry them. Some questioned the quality? Anyway, let me know. Thanks.
Got myself a 1978 GMC Jimmy and the key I use for my doors does not unlock the tailgate. If anyone has information that can help I would greatly appreciate it.
I’m wanting to do a part time conversion on my K5. It has the NP 203 which is all time 4 wheel drive. There’s forums about it but I can’t seem to find the conversion that replaces the rear output shaft instead of the four bolted on plates. Does anyone here know where to find one or maybe has one?
I don't even want to say how much I've put into restoring this 72 K5, but it's going to be dang near showpiece quality when done. My body and interior guy says I now need to pick out.
I would love some ideas. I have a few basic ones, but I figure the hive mind knows things that work... possibly examples that have already worked. Feel free to send links or images; I don't mind copying things at all. I'm not deadset on OEM at all.
Hi everyone,
I bought 1990 GMC jimmy, which similar to blazer in design.
I planning to prepaint it dark blue similar to the attached below link

Is this dark blue considered as an original colour or not.
How would I find the color code of there any to be sure.
