Looking for a joke book title

Hello you lovely people, here's a tough one:

my boyfriend lent his favorite joke book to one of his students, but he doesn't remember who and when, just that he never got it back. Anyone got any clue, he purchased it in Dublin, it has a distinctive pink cover, several hundred pages and the jokes were sorted by category i. E. jokes about lawyers, the Irish, Germans etc. Anyone got one at home just like this and give me the title? Ta :-)

An Post customer service are sending me in circles

Would appreciate any and all help with this. The short version is I've had a package stuck in the Dublin depot since the first week of November and am getting absolutely nowhere with customer service.

The longer version is they've told me that, due to a problem with their IT system on the day my package arrived in Dublin, it's showing up on their end as not cleared by customs even though it is. It's coming from the UK but I paid customs at the point of purchase so that's not the issue.

Every single time I ring customer services they tell me they will raise it with a manager and nothing happens. I should note this is after I actually got the truth out of them: the first time I rang back in mid November they told me it was to do with the Royal Mail strikes. Contacted the Royal Mail and said it was out of their hands, literally, as the item had been handed over to An Post. The second time I rang it was supposedly an issue with the seller which wasn't true either. I contacted the seller and they had all their customs affairs in order and I have the documentation proving this.

I've tried every avenue of complaint on their website: their email system for customer problems is beyond useless, they're so slow to reply and even then it's the same spiel about we'll raise it with X person but the tracking link is still telling me it's in the depot.

I know it's not the end of the world but I was patient with them throughout December cause I knew it was the crazy busy period but this is beyond ridiculous. I'm not the most assertive on the phone because I don't want to be a Karen but I just want my clothes :( the window to return them is long gone if they don't fit obvs

If anyone has any advice on redress or how to get them to actually sort this out I would be v grateful.

Horsewoman memorial

I’m not exactly sure how to start. My brother and I are looking for a place in Ireland to hold a personal memorial for our mom. It would just be my brother, myself, and our spouses.

Our mom passed in October, and she had 2 lifelong loves, horses and Ireland. She never got to go to Ireland, so we thought it would be a nice tribute to spread part of her ashes at her farm here in Louisiana and part in Ireland at another horse farm. She bred and raised horses most of her life. In fact, she broke her leg at 68 when she tried to saddle and ride a 2 yr old colt she was handling, which was the last time she was able to be on horseback. She was a 19 yr survivor of ovarian cancer who beat it 6 times over those years. She talked frequently of traveling to Ireland, but even as tough as she was, her health just didn’t allow for her to make the trip (plus she could never seem to get away from her horses for long enough).

We are holding the memorial here this weekend at a horse expo center with a “cowboy” funeral. We would like to hold the second memorial in Ireland in April or May of next year.

We completely understand that some people would not be comfortable with this, so we would appreciate any advice you may give.

Thank you so much taking the time to read this.

living with asthma in ireland

When I first moved to Ireland, I was shocked by the levels of mortality due to asthma in the country as well as how much it costs to cure it daily. I could only find this study that tries to understand better the situation. If you have asthma or live with someone that does, please share your experience here.

As far as I can tell, results will help identify communities severely impacted economically by costs of healthcare. You can contribute to healthcare justice and equity within 5 minutes of your day :)

Also, does anyone have stories related to asthma in Ireland? I could only find this article on the topic

Medical Council Complaint?

Hey! Ok so not using my main account because I am worried about “backlash” but just wondering if anyone here has any experience with reporting a private psychiatrist to the medical council for negligence and/or malpractice?

My previous psychiatrist has previously been reported for similar claims that I have recently reported him for (I don’t want to get into details but it is not just “in my head” – he was in the Irish Times about it). I have been consistently ignored by the medical council (except for one email telling me it’s in progress and assigned a case officer. Everything – EVERYTHING – since 10 months ago have been ignored). They have since removed all contact details from their website (I have all emails still in my email account, though). This is absolutely ridiculous.

Has anyone else this experience? My next plan of action is contacting local TDs. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Could someone put my mind at ease?

My husband and I are in the process of buying a house. We signed the contracts and waiting for the vendor to return them. In the meantime so many things happened that makes me doubt the whole thing with the house. 2 months ago my son was diagnosed with depression and as result his going to fail his second semester in the college (if things are good) or he needs to repeat the whole year. I am very worried about him. The house is in the town where my kids are going to college because we wanted to be closer to them. It took us more than a year to find something in our budget. The house is small (102 m2) and I’m afraid I would feel so claustrophobic as the bedrooms are v small , but I know it is what we can afford it. Storage is also very poor, I hope to work on this and find some solution. I also need to change the job after we move- my current one is ok but the money are bad. I wanted to change the job long ago to be able to work less but earn same money. I slowly looking for new job which made me realise I won’t be able to do it cause money are slightly better but working condition much worse. My dad is very sick and dying and I can’t even fly home at the moment 😪 I have so many doubts now , I’m afraid I won’t be able to keep the repayments , that my life is going to get worse instead of getting better. Buying a house was my dream but it just gives me anxiety and insomnia…

No caller ID

I got a call from a no caller iD there about half an hour ago. I’m supposed to be asleep for nights but of course my half asleep self answered it. There was actually someone in the other line who said “you know your phone number got leaked on tiktok” and they just kept repeating that. Any preventative measures I might have to take from now or is the damage already done and I just don’t know it yet :(.

should corned beef smell sour?

When I opened the corned beef packet it had a weird smell, but I don't know if that's because of the pickling or if it went bad. The use by date isn't until May 2022.

Dublin divers, I need your help!

Well my sister has only gone and thrown her engagement ring in the bloody canal!!!!!!!

Not on purpose, there were ducks and crackers involved, but her lovely ring is at the bottom of the grand canal, and I've heard rumour of divers who might be available to help in such circumstances.

Is there anyone out there who can help? Ideally, before she has to tell the fiance, but honestly, anytime at all if ye can. I can offer a modest reward to cover costs if needed.

Please share any links if you know any groups who might help.

Employer rescinded job offer citing Coronavirus. Help!

Ok, so I'm in a terrible position. My wife moved to Ireland on a Critical Skills Employment Permit in October 2019. At the time I was employed in Dubai. I started my job hunt and was offered a job at a reputed and successful multi national firm in Jan 2020. The offer was subject to me receiving a work permit on the basis of my spouse Critical Skills permit within 2 months. I applied immediately and received the work permit on 14 March. I had already quit my job in Dubai and flew into Dublin on 16 March. Two days back, the recruitment consultant through whom I got the job called me and said that the company is rescinding my job offer owing to the Coronavirus pandemic and will offer me one months' pay in lieu thereof. The employer did not provide me any advance notice despite me having informed them when I applied for the visa, and upon receipt of the visa and when I was flying in. I had been asked to complete everything within 2 months for the offer to remain valid and I did everything. I moved from Dubai to Dublin incurring a lot of expenses since my offer included a relocation allowance. I had already shipped all of our belongings from our Dubai home, rented an apartment and paid 1 months rent as deposit. What should I do? Any advice?

List of free and low-cost counselling/therapy services

I've compiled a list of some free and low-cost counselling/therapy resources I'm aware of, and the issues they deal with. Some are nationwide, but a lot are in Dublin because that's the area I'm most familiar with. If you have any others (particularly outside of Dublin), please let me know in the comments (and preferably provide a website) and I'll add them to the original post.

If you don't specifically require low-cost therapy, the IACP website allows you to search for a counsellor/therapist in your area. Some of them will also say if the fee is negotiable or offered on a sliding scale. https://www.iacp.ie

Pieta House – Free. Self harm/suicide. Also offer family support. Location: Dublin (several locations), Cork, Kerry, Westmeath, Limerick, Donegal, Tipperary, Waterford, Galway, Wexford. http://www.pieta.ie/

Oasis Centre – Affordable counselling for an “extensive range of personal life problems” and crisis intervention for addiction/bereavement/suicide. Also offer mindfulness training. Location: North Dublin. http://oasiscentre.ie/

Shine – No price given, but I’m aware of the service and I think it’s either low cost or free. Serious mental health difficulties (appears that you need a diagnosis). Location: Dublin and Cork. https://www.shine.ie/services/counselling/

National Counselling Service - Free. Survivors of childhood abuse. Location: Nationwide. https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/list/4/mental-health-services/national-counselling-service/

Counselling in Primary Care - Free for medical card holders but needs a GP referral. Short-term counselling for “mild to moderate psychological difficulties”. Location: Nationwide. https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/list/4/mental-health-services/counsellingpc/

Dublin Counselling and Therapy Centre - Low cost option. “An extensive range of personal life problems” or personal development. Location: North Dublin. http://dctc.ie/counselling-psychotherapy/

PCI College - €10-25 to see a student, but more if you want to see someone fully qualified. “Varied topics”. Location: Dublin, Cork, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Limerick, Longford, Mayo, Meath, Waterford, Westmeath. http://www.pcicollege.ie/counselling-service/aboutlowcostcounselling

MyMind - Low-cost. Face-to-face and online counselling for a wide range of problems. Location: Dublin, Cork, Limerick. https://mymind.org/

Genesis - €15-35. Individual, couples or family therapy for a “wide range of concerns”. Location: North Dublin. http://www.genesistherapy.ie/

Acora - LGBT, couples, individual therapy. Offers some low-cost appointments. Location: North Dublin. http://www.acora.ie

The dreaded chickenpox

Luckily the kids don't have it (2 & 4 years old). Unfortunately we were due to visit cousins this weekend (they don't have it either yet), but my sister received notification that one of the kids in the cousins class has it.

I'm really torn about whether to go visit or not. The cousin doesn't have it but incubation period is 7-10 days. I've seen conflicting reports that it's better to get it as a young child rather than an adolescent or adult. I'll give the oncall nurse a ring to get her advice but what would you do?

I'm obviously not going to put the kids in a position where they would definitely be in contact with chickenpox however I don't want to start restricting activities in case there's an outside chance they would get it - that's not a way to live a life.

Help! I Want To Quit My Job But Don't Want To Be Rude

Prole here in need of a good Irish solution. I am a temp & my supervisor is about 15 months pregnant (only important for context), inconsiderate as can be, & the worst begrudger in the world. I have been too polite, & she's taken advantage.

The 'big charity event' I was hired for is about 6 weeks away, but I am making far less than minimum wage at this point because this was supposed to be a part time job, but I have been coming in extra days (because it's a non-profit, I felt guilty saying no).

My husband is angry with me because all the extra hours & me being a tired, miserable cunt is making it hard on him & causing him extra housework while bringing in no monies :(

I dread going in every day & my husband is dead set that I should quit, but I don't want to be blamed as the person who 'abandoned' a pregnant lady just weeks before an event that raises money for the needy. It's a small world, & on the face of it, this sounds monstrous, no?

I'm feeling a bit fucked here whichever way I go. Anybody have an Irish way to quit without getting the office's nose out of joint? Should I just shoulder through it & try to use my paltry pay to get some marriage counselling? Change my name? Throw myself in front of a slow LUAS & hope I break an elbow & can't work?
