This sub is intended for constructive, reasonable discussion. The best way to have such an experience is to be honest, polite and respectful from the outset.

2. Sectarianism:

We all have passionate beliefs and seeing that this is a discussion sub, the vast majority of users will like debate and argument. That is perfectly fine. However, if you feel so strongly over a topic that you cannot engage in discussion in a respectful, honest and decent manner, you may be better off not engaging in that particular discussion at all at all. Come to this sub with an open mind, not with a pet grudge.

3. Bygones are bygones:

We recommend users leave past disagreements at the door once a particular discussion ends. Grudge holding and bitterness only makes fruitful and enjoyable discussion less likely.

4.Debate etiquette:

We do not enforce a strict etiquette concerning debating tactics. However we recommend honest debate tactics. As well as that, we discourage consistent, unsubstantiated accusations of bad faith acting as that destroys discussion just as much as genuine bad faith argumentation does: it derails the conversation and distracts the opponents.

5. Editorialisation:

Posts presenting news articles/tweets shouldn’t be heavily editorialised.

[R2] Relevant to Irish Politics This sub predominantly deals with the politics and society of the Republic of Ireland. Discussion concerning Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom and the European Union (when relevant to the ROI and NI) is permitted also. If you want to discuss affairs further afield, this is not the place.

[R3] Posting Limits & Spam In order to prevent individual users dominating the sub, users are allowed a maximum of four posts per day only, with the clock restarting at 3am each night. In addition, excessive posting on a particular niche topic in a very short period of time is not looked kindly upon and will be treated as spam. We also prohibit self promotional material being spammed into the subreddit.

[R4] Privacy Violation Any attempt at doxxing will result in a permanent ban.

[R5] News Editorialisation & Reliable Sourcing All news articles/content should be submitted as direct links; not contained within any self-text body, tweet(s), screenshot(s), archive website(s) etc. Submission titles should use the headline of the article being submitted, and should be changed only where it improves clarity or is absolutely necessary.

[R6] Heavily Biased Media Posts which are purporting to be news must maintain editorial standards, and present information with limited bias. In particular, media sources generally recognised as purveying misinformation may be removed. If a decent source is not available, please consider a self-post referencing evidence to the claims therein.

[R7] Trolling, Baiting, Flaming, & Accusations Trolling of any kind is not welcome on the sub, including commenting or posting with the intent to insult, harass, anger or bait and without the intent to discuss a topic in good faith. Do not engage with trolling. If you think that someone is trolling please downvote them, report them, and move on. Do not accuse users of baiting/shilling/bad faith/being a bot in the comments.

[R8] Older Articles When posting articles from outside the current year, please include the year of publication within brackets in front of the title.

[R9] Copyright Concerns Copying entire articles or substantial portions of them in comments is not allowed due to copyright concerns. The Automod replies to every post with an archive link which can be used to bypass the paywalls of most sites if needed.

On balance. How do we feel about Harris.

At the risk of seeking out disagreement, on balance, how do we all feel about Harris as a leader? I don't hate him. Think he comes across quiet well and throws up some decent soundbites. Such as preelection promises for the democratisation of childcare suggest he is more lefty than Leo. 7 months in I don't think he is the worst, but hasn't had a chance to achieve or mess up too much at this stage. Wonder what ya''ll think. Constructive criticism only please.

How often do party leaders of the Taoiseach campaign with candidates?

Hey I’m 15 I moved here when I was 12 so this is my first Irish election and I’m seeing a lot of videos about the Taoiseach going around campaigning with his party members helping them in their local area.

How often do they do this? And don’t they need to focus on their constituency?

Who do people reckon will be the first Irish political party to leave X/Twitter. I see all the accounts putting out pretty benign content and getting spam engagement or trolling. Surely it is a sunk fallacy for most parties/organisations now.

What parties aren't planning to stand candidates where you are?

Donegal based here. There's never been a SocDems or PBP candidate in the constituency, while there was no labour nominee in the last election in 2020 either. Are there any parties not standing in your constituency this year (as of time of writing) or any parties that have a poor history of contesting in the area?

Is there a risk of the discontinuation of the Common Travel Area if Northern Ireland leaves the U.K. and becomes part of the Republic of Ireland?

Not sure if this is necessarily the right sub as the question overlaps UK politics, legal questions etc. but figured it’s worth an ask.

For their thinking of giving Labour a second chance.

Im old enough to be remember 2009-11. I remember when Enda Kenny cut Dole under 23’s because they were naturally lazy. Many services all cut. Some vital public infrastructure projects put on ice for 10 years. Instead of using historically low interest rates to build prosperity. Or keep our construction labour pool from fucking off to Australia

Or jobsbridge which instead of helping get jobs only helped companies avoid paying minimum wage and getting ‘interns’ to do work that deserved a wage.

Austerity has been proven for the absolute grace farce it is. It’s economic hooliganism. Yet we endured it for years. When public capital was used to rescue private.

What gets me is the supposed Left wing of Irish politics went gleefully with it. Labour under Ruairi Quinn themselves hiked the student fees. They said it would be temporary but didn’t come down until last year. Or the USC that would be a stopgap measure.

I don’t understand how lifelong leftists suddenly disavow their entire purpose and suddenly aim cuts at the most weakest people and at social programs. They helped weaken workplace rights.

It’s like everything is left wing about them except their economics.

Did we essentially lose 5 years to insane policies that worsened the Recession because they were too spineless to stand up to what was in fashion.
