I work under an R1 visa in a religious org. I was wondering if I could invest in shares via Robinhood using my social security number. Is it legal? Because I'm not allowed to work another job. Thanks!
Passport is there from 26th November.
for some context i am still in high school as a 19 year old due to learning issues that were never and have not been adressed yet, he has been threatening me with sending me back to my home country for almost the 4-5 years i have been living in the US, i have been having panick attacks and depression due to this and he won't stop using it against me, he also keeps on pushing me around with getting into colllege despite not even being done with high school (i will be done this may of 2025) and expecting me to already have a plan to get a in said career job which does not make any sense as i dont even have a degree yet. despite this he won't stop threatening me over any single thing and what i don't understand is him claiming "you have no documents, you wont do any good in here so i will send you back to homecountry to rot in the army" despite this i already used a Alien Id number to apply for college aid, can someone explain to me what does it mean to have an Alien id number and can he even forcefully make me go back to my homecountry as a 19 year old?
Hi All,
Here is my situation:
Student visa stamp valid till Dec 31 2024 (arrived in Canada as a student in Aug 2023) Graduation date : 16th aug 2024 (so I can assume my current student permit is expired since 90 days have passed since graduation) Applied for study permit extension in Sept 2024 to do another degree in Jan 2025. It was approved in Nov 3rd 2024 till 2026.
I want to visit my family in USA (am a citizen of Sri lanka)
Can I re-enter based on old stamp? And show my student permit extension document? Or do I need a new trv? I heard that old trv/stamp would expire because the associated student permit has expired
Please help!
Born in 89 in USA to german mother ( who was born in germany to german mother and american soldier) and my American (soldier) father. Was taken to Germany at 3 yo by mother and raised as a german. Left germany at 18 with my now husband (also American soldier...yes, I see the pattern lol) . Anyhow, I had my kids in the US when I was 20 and 22. Married my husband in US at the age of 21. I'm 35 now and we are still happily married living in the US.
Did I lose my german birthright citizenship (i got at birth through my mom) by living in the US for 18 years? And did either of my children (born 09 and 11 ) inherit german citizenship from me?
I'm confused because after my stepfather died, shortly before adopting me as a child (which would have caused me to lose us citizenship, meaning i WAS NOT adopted) the lawyer told me that the law had changed and I no longer had to chose citizenship when I was an adult. I attempted to research this and to say it's been confusing is an understatement.
Thank you & danke ☺️🙏
Friend that’s a Canadian citizen and US green card holder may be deported for some charges. Just wanna know what the process of deportation looks like especially for a Canadian. Thanks.
No matter you’ve already applied or planning to apply, please share your information with me, I need your help
My husband just had his interview for the IR1 visa at the Islamabad Embassy today. He was so prepared had all the documents and they accepted and approved all his documents. After the interview, they said everything is good and all the documents are accepted but they're unsure to make a decision. At the end, he was handed a 221G form.
On the white form, they checked off one for "Administrative Processing" and the other "Passport." They did not ask him for any additional documents. They told him to wait maybe 2-3 days or it could take a week or another month.
Has anyone else experienced this? If you're in a similar situation, could you share how long you've been waiting in AP, or how long it took to receive the email asking you to submit the passport by courier?
Our PD is June 2021. So tired of waiting now..
Hi everyone,
I’m planning to travel to Guatemala, and I currently hold a multi-entry Schengen visa that is valid until July 2025. When I arrive in Guatemala, the validity of my Schengen visa will be less than 180 days.
I’ve checked the entry requirement and don’t see any mention of a 180-day validity rule for Schengen visas when entering Guatemala. However, since some countries(Mexico and Colombia) require this, I’m uncertain whether I’ll face any issues.
I tried emailing the Guatemala Embassy, but I didn’t get a clear answer regarding this specific situation.
Has anyone been in a similar situation or knows whether this 180-day validity rule applies to Guatemala for travelers with Schengen visas? Should I go ahead with my trip or reconsider?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Last December my brother's B2 visa got rejected in hyderabad. I was planning to get him to US for his Ulcerative Colitis treatment. The officer said there are treatments available in india and it's too expensive in US. do you think if he applies for regular tourist visa, he will get approved. my brother is single( 41 years) with some private job and a mother that stays with him.
I was told by the Mexican consulate that I need both my parents birth certificates but mother is estranged so I’m not sure how to go about doing this. Has anyone been in this predicament & been able to obtain their dual citizenship? Or does anyone have any advice about how I can get her birth certificate? TIA!
The company I work for filed a L1B petition for me. USCIS approved the petition on Nov 1st (3-year status), and I had my visa stamp interview today (Dec 2nd).
They first reviewed my paperwork, and the person told me I should’ve brought 3 copies of my I-129 form with me, which seemed weird because the attorneys never said anything about that.
At the time of the actual interview, the agent was really nice to me. She asked a few questions about my current job, my qualifications, and future role in the US. Then, she stood up, and went to the back of the office to speak to a colleague. Once she came back, she started to write down some notes on my DS-160 confirmation page. One of her notes read “missing petition”, so I handed her my I-797B (original copy). I don’t know why she didn’t ask for it in the first place. Anyway, she turned over to her computer, and typed for a few seconds. After that, she said the application information didn’t show up in their system, so she couldn’t approve me on the spot. We then moved to a different window, where she had a small chat with a colleague. They were discussing differences between an individual petition and Blanket Petition. After that, the other person handed me a green 221g paper, and said they would keep my passport and I-797B, and that they would let me know whether I was approved or not once they review all the paperwork. The Consulate officer said it might take a week or so.
I told the company what happened, and they reached out to the attorneys. The firm said the Consulate is supposed to contact PIMS when they cannot find the case in their system, but that it is generally resolved on its own. They also said that if it is not resolved by the Consulate, they may be able to reach out to the Premium Processing unit themselves and ask that the case be transferred over electronically.
I hope they know what the best course of action is because I read a few posts (not from Mexico), and apparently it’s hard to tell whether it’s going to be resolved on its own or not. Not to mention that response times vary.
My main concern is that I don’t know how are they supposed to stamp my passport if I haven’t paid my reciprocity fee yet, and that I may have to reschedule my wife’s appointment which is end of next week.
Has anyone in Mexico gone through something similar before? Will I have to travel back to the Consulate? Will I have to pay for a new appointment? There are no more available dates this month.
I’d appreciate your thoughts.
I had a j1 visa and now planning to go for f1 School said that they only offer fall and spring and visa expires in this spring. The thing is even with grace period of ending and starting of new visa there is still a month in between and i dont know what to do. Then again i thought about going to medioc to get a interview and a stamp but the possibility of getting a visa is so uncertain for usa. What if i dont get the f1 visa like that ? What if they think that i dont intent to go back? The visa processing timeline is my country to much like a year and i dont know what to do? Maybe lets leave to god but any suggestions from you guys
Im curious to know what happens to the investments an immigrant has, example 401K Ira’s Brokerage accounts, rental properties, if the individual gets deported, will they be able to keep those investments? Do they have to sell all? If they keep them can they pay taxes from their country? Does anyone have any knowledge when it comes to this? Thank you
Hello hello all :)
To keep things short, I'm a PR in Canada, got a passport from a visa waiver country and regularly (about a weekend every month) visit my partner and his family in the states.
Usually, my 90 day I94 period would expire shortly before the next upcoming visit, so I'd just repay the $6, go through customs and hop on the train, but this time around, I'm planning on a longer visit for Xmas to New Year (he'll be moving to the east coast soon :( ), with arrival date being Dec 21, back home Jan 05 or so, buuuut my current i94s Admit Until date is Dec 25.. right on xmas..
Would I be able to repay the $6 on the 21st and just.. ask for a new i94 period to be issued?
(I honestly don't even fully understand what the i94 vs ESTA even is.. I know we're not supposed to "extend" the 90 days by returning for a brief period to make another long stay, but I've used maybe 12-14 days of each 90 day period for the last 4 years.. the Xmas/NY stay is usually my longest of the whole year. 😅 Never had any issues with my visits, it's just the Admit Until date that freaks me out a bit..)
Birth happened 15 days ago. Will have birth cert of baby in a week. Still getting docs on physical presence. Used US family member's address for transcripts and W2. Shipment scheduled to arrive Friday. Family member sent me pics of docs. Country: India
Questions: Can I upload to eCRBA? How long does emergency appt take to schedule? What is emergency mean in this context? If given emergency appt before docs arrive can we still get emergency passport? Am cit born and raised in US.
My son is an US citizen and just turned 20-year-old, he is a college student currently, with no income.
Q1: Someone told me that I can submit my green card application now, because it normally takes 12 months or so for I-130 to be approved, as long as my son turns 21 before the date of approval, it will be okay. Is this true?
Q2: My wife and I both have been worked in US for 20 years under legal visa, way more than 40 quarters social security credits. Which means we can self-financial-sponsoring by filing I-864W instead of needing to file an I-864 with a joint-financial-sponsor. Is this true?
Q3: When filing I-130, I can also file an application for "Employment Authorization Document" (EAD) at the same time, which allow me to have an EAD in about 4 months while waiting for the I-130 to be approved in about 12 months. Is this true?
Q4: If both Q1 & Q3 are true, technically it is possible for me to receive an EAD like 8 months before my son turn 21-year-old. Is this true?
Suppose that you have both options. Which visa would you choose? Thank you!
Greencard holder, got arrested for domestic violence but prosecution declined. How does it impact my greencard status? Will I still be able to enter US by air? Can I apply for programs like global entry or Nexus?
My mother-in-law was denied Visa, I'm just looking for ways to overcome this. She's trying to come to the US to attend her daughter, my wife, graduating from college with her Bachelor.
- She is from Da Nang Vietnam
- Still married to her current husband, 2 grown adults children living in the US. Her husband, my father in law just got his B2 approval.
- Owns her own business in Vietnam
- Have traveled extensively within Asia (Korea, Japan....)
During the questioning, she was asked what is her occupation, she answered that she sells clothes, and not that she owns her clothing store. How do we demonstrate that we have more ties that can compel she will return to VN?
If the parents of a minor get a US citizenship, does the minor get the citizenship automatically like he/she was born from US citizens or does he/she need to apply for the citizenship?
Hey! My work permit is expiring soon and I’m filing to renew it, I’m unsure if I should file under my pending asylum or my approved temporary protection status. I started filing with my tps but my dad said I should use the asylum, I appreciate your advice. Thank you!

What are my chances and my red flag? Help a girl pls, all responses are appreciated 🫶🏽
Have applied multiple times over the years and tried again today.
I'm 24f with a US boyfriend, together for 6 years, he spends 6 months or so per year here.
Questions asked:
- Where will you go in the US?
- Is your boyfriend a US Citizen?
- Have you traveled to other countries?
First time I was asked this one and was happy to share. "Yes, I travel often with my boyfriend, I've visited a few countries in Europe; Germany, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Switzerland, also Australia, South Korea and many countries in southeast Asia"
- What is your work?
I don't have work, I like to travel, go shopping and sightseeing in other countries and don't have time for work.
Denied with the same reason, no strong ties.
I knew the work one was something that would be a red flag along with the 2nd question, but that's my true life story. After sharing my travel history to other countries, many of which require visas, I was hopeful that I'd have a chance to be approved this time around.
Seems hopeless as a young, unemployed Filipina even though true intentions would be as a tourist only similar to my other travel in the last 5 years. Any point to reapply or time to give up?
He will be getting a green card in about five years, and he has to decide whether to apply for H1B (university) or OPT STEM (and then get H1B after OPT expires).
Our lawyer retired and we have no idea about the legal process and don’t have the money to retain a new lawyer.
What do we do now that our i601a is approved?
I read that the next step is applying for a green card at the us embassy in Mexico? How do I make an appointment for that? What do I bring with me? How long will I be stuck in Mexico? I’m the sole provider for my family so I can’t be gone long
If I get denied on the spot does that mean I can’t come back to the US? If I get approved is it an on the spot thing after one meeting there?
Hello, my employer is sponsoring me for an EB2 NIW. They believe I will qualify as a result of Biden’s 2023 executive order on AI. I have a few questions regarding the process that I was hoping I could get answers on as I didn’t find any clear cut answers to these in past posts.
1/ if my employer files on my behalf, how long am I tied to them once i140 is approved? I.e. when can I change jobs at the earliest without restarting my i140?
2/ to avoid being tied to my employer, would it make sense to file myself in parallel or will this reduce my chances? I’d rather not openly ask them if I can file myself instead of themselves because they’d likely ask why and the reason is, even if I don’t have any intention of leaving currently, I’d rather not be tied to any employer if i can help it.
thank you for your help!
Have an E3 visa interview scheduled for 9th Dec at Melbourne and flying overseas 21st Dec. Is this cutting it too close for passport collection ? Any recent experiences at Melbourne consulate ?
Rising Senior in NJ rn. Will only have spent a year on H4 so I will be a "international" applicant anyways.
Was wondering if it was advised to go down the CC route for a year or two then transfer to a uni later.
Does anyone know how the process plays out when going from H4 to F1? What documents are required, and would I be at a disadvantage when applying for F1?
I can write the longer version if needed, my BIL had car accident in April (USC), I helped fill out the visa process for my MIL (Mexican citizen), and she was granted a visitor visa, she already spent her time here in the US and will try to come back. Now how can she or my BIL get her to stay longer to take care of him, he is now considered disabled and cannot take care for himself, he can't go to Mexico (no medical insurance) and I can't take care of him since I already have my family and 2 small children.
