Welcome to r/IWantOut: Reddit's expatriate community. Please take a look at the sidebar for some tips for getting the most out of it.

Welcome to r/IWantOut, Reddit's expat subreddit. Please read the sidebar for general advice and helpful links.

If you want out of wherever you live, we're here to help.

Got questions? Want advice and experience from people who have gotten out or are still trying? Have a good tip or a success story to tell? Just need support? No matter where you're from or where you're going, you're welcome here.

☞This is a space to discuss strategies and advice for legal immigration, NOT to debate about refugees, undocumented migrants, the ethics/wisdom of various immigration policies, etc. Posts and comments that stray from the subject of legal immigration will be removed and you may be warned or banned depending on the severity of the offense. Report rule violations. If you have any questions, feel free to message the mods with violations.

★ RULES ★

  1. Be respectful and stay on the topic of legal emigration/immigration. This is not a political subreddit. Politics might be the reason you want out, which is perfectly fine. Instead of writing 3 paragraphs about what specifically you don't like, write "I disagree with the politics" and then talk about what you're looking for. It'll help prevent purely political comments.

  2. No requesting or giving advice on how to conduct illegal activities, including marriage to strangers. We want you to be safe, and, furthermore, such posts violate reddit's sitewide policies.

  3. When requesting/giving advice, please be as detailed as possible when describing your situation: country of origin/destination, age range, education, qualifications, budget, etc. We do allow "-> anywhere" posts. Please do your own research to find a short list of countries you'd like to go to. You need to include extra information based on what criteria you have (weather, jobs, etc.). Lack of narrowing criteria will result in post removal.

  4. Observe the title format. All posts must follow our prescribed title format, violations of this will be removed. Please look at the wiki for specific formatting information. Do not use a different post type tag to bypass formatting requirements. The format is simple enough to follow, and you can test it at the following link before posting. The mods will not approve posts which do not pass the title format restrictions.

  5. Recommendations are OK; spam/advertising is not. If you're not sure if your post follows this, ask. In general, posting links to things is welcome as comments on relevant posts, but we rarely allow them as posts. In order to prevent our community from being inundated with survey requests, we universally do NOT allow surveys. If you ask the mods to post your survey, you will be politely declined. If you post anyway, you will be permanently banned.

  6. Please report rule violations. If you notice a violation of Rules 1, 2, 3, or 5, please REPORT it. Please do not send links of these posts/comments to modmail. The one exception to this is Rule 4: Observe the title format, please send Rule 4 violations to modmail. We don't accept reports on the title format, because we've found that the majority of those reports are incorrect as people don't understand the title format. Instead, we ask that you send links to modmail, so that if you're incorrect, we can at least explain why you're incorrect so that hopefully in the future, you'll know what to look out for.

★ PROTIPS ★

  • Permanently residing in a country in which you currently don't have citizenship almost always requires a visa (legal permission to live there). Visa rules differ depending on the country/region, but they generally require that you demonstrate a good reason for moving there: family, in-demand skills, pursuit of higher education, etc. It can be a daunting process, but if you're serious about getting out you should thoroughly research the visa you'll need to obtain to do so. Some of the links below might help.

  • Are you upset about the political situation in your country? Fair enough. But do your homework and don't make any rash decisions – immigration takes time and effort, and the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Remember, too, that /r/IWantOut is for requesting and sharing tips for legal immigration, not having political debates. It's OK to say, "I'm looking for a country with X policies on issue Y," but be sure to stay civil and stay on topic.

  • Before posting, try searching the subreddit (at the top of this sidebar). It's possible your question has been asked before.

  • Can't find the answer you're looking for here? Check to see if there's a subreddit for the country and/or city you want to go to.

[IWantOut] 39M Web Developer USA -> Ireland

A little background: my great-grandparents immigrated to the US from Ireland back in the day and I’ve been working toward being able to relocate for a long time. I’m finally able to move but I’m struggling to find work.

I’m an IT pro with what I would consider a decent resume and I’ve been applying to jobs in the greater Dublin area for almost a year but I’m not getting much interest and/or traction with Irish employers. My understanding is that you need a job offer before you can obtain a work visa but many employers ask for existing authorization.

Does anyone know how to navigate this chicken/egg situation? I know most of the rest of the world (rightfully) is not fond of the US but I’m not sure how to express that my intention is to assimilate and contribute without coming across as disingenuous.

I’ve submitted my resume/info to a number of recruiters in Ireland but is there something I’m missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[IWantOut] 23F USA -> Indonesia

Hello! I'm about to be 23 in about 10ish days, I currently live in the US and I have been wanting to move out of the country since I was young. Because of more recent events, I am thinking of speeding up this process. But I'm also a worry wart, I have never lived outside of my city/planned a huge move like this and I am worried that I may be unprepared.

I have other countries that I want to go to but I am leaning towards Indonesia because my mom's entire family lives there.

As it stands in any emergency situation I could reliably drop everything get a plane ticket and stay with family but I wouldn't want to be a financial burden/I would like to live there sustainably by myself.

I am wondering if becoming a University Student would be the best pathway for LTR/Citizen or if I am better off trying to find work out there using connections. And in general with what I have now, would I be prepared? Or should I take a step back and earn/secure certs?

I will have roughly 50k in savings by the time I decide to move and expect to take 6 months to 1 year for a job search.

Current Experience:
I work in the immigration industry as a document preparer/signer (really low/entry level). I have worked in the tech repair and support industry. I have worked a variety of service, clerical, and warehouse jobs as well. I am trying to become an illustrator full time as a dream career. But overall I would be willing to do most jobs if it means securing independent living.

Education:
Partial college complete, but I have had to stop education due to issues with FAFSA (In the midst of an appeal right now). This is for a graphic design major.

I am thinking about switching majors if it means an easier time with living in other countries and I have thought about fast tracking and paying out of pocket for a WGU degree.

Lifestyle:
I have lived alone for the last 5ish years and don't have a high standard for living, I like to live frugal, don't mind eating/cooking Indonesian food and dishes. I don't go out much other than for work and the occasional coffee/library study and draw sessions.
My dream is to eventually become an Illustrator and with the high cost of living in the US I feel it's not as viable to do than in other countries. Everything I do is to get to this eventual goal.

Overall any advice would be amazing but the questions above are most important to me.

Thank you so much!!!

[IWantOut] 31M Electrician Belgium -> Alberta, Canada

Hello everyone! Let me explain myself first.

I am a 31 years old Project Leader for an Industrial Automation Company in Belgium. I worked for them for the last 11 years as an Industrial Electrician first. We went abroad to other European countries and even Canada and USA to construct a whole product handling installation. On a quote, meaning that the foreign company paid our Belgian company a big amount to do the work there. Another foreign company installed the machinery and we did all the wiring, connecting electrical components and everything in that area.

This doesn’t add to the Experience done in Canada due to doing all the work on a quote and being paid by the Belgian company.

The last 5 years consisted of wanting to move to Canada but now deciding that’s really what we want to do. We missed our chance of going on an IEC by being over 31 years old now.

Doing my research resulted (correct me if I'm wrong) by going there on an ETA to get my Canadian electrician certificate (not sure how).

Then do the full Journeyman Apprenticeship 4 years and the Red Seal Cross. Not sure how to get started on both of them because I’ll probably still need something like an employer-specific work permit. So that my employer can get me a positive labour market impact assessment (LMIA) After that an Express Entry and then a PR?

This is all that I have found out but feels a bit overwhelming and sometimes confusion because I’m not so sure if I could pass all those criteria. My fiance (32F) works self-employed as a freelancer for a Dutch company and we haven't really looked into her possibilities.

Thanks in advance for any feedback. I know that the Canadian Dream for immigrants is fading due to cost of living and what not. But it’s really the place we want to be.

[IWantOut] 25F Syria -> Australia

Hi , im a 25 f doctor

as some of you might know, war just started again in Syria – ISIS Daesh) and Al-Qaeda (terrorist muslim extremists) are now in control in Syria , and I’m looking for a way out of this country for me and my family. Me and my sister are general doctors(we finished six years of medical school )and I want to travel to Australia, and specialize there ((because I can’t wait anymore to specialize here in Syria, as the living conditions are really really bad here right now, for example, there are no salaries, no money, killings , kidnappings , literally no government . anyone could do any crime, and no one will be punished))

I just want anyway to travel to Australia whether it be immigration (which I know is really hard) or as refugees it doesn’t matter, because we just can’t live here anymore as we are from the minorities , the minorities that are being killed left and right . So is there anyway to travel to Australia as a family to live there?

And another problem even if there is a way to go, there ,from what I read, as a doctor , specializing in Australia, is almost impossible , any idea about it? are there websites or universities that I could reach out to in order to know more about this?

And even if we go as immigrants or as refugees, we have enough money saved , so money is not an issue , we just need a way to travel there Please if anyone knows something or can help please comment

Another thing, of course immigration is preferable to seeking asylum (of course there’s nothing wrong with being refugees. We just don’t want to be refugees.)

But if it’s the only way, then seeking asylum is, of course, preferable to staying in this country😂😭💔

[IWantOut] 19F US -> France

Overview: I am a psychology student graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Spring 2026. I was going to get a Ph.D in psychology in the US to become a clinical/counseling child and adolescent psychologist. After spending a long time figuring out what track I wanted to take in the US, now I feel that I have to move, and I'm not really sure what the equivalent would be in Europe.

Where: I have dual citizenship with France. I'm fluent in English, French, and Spanish. That's why the default place I'm considering moving to is France, but I would be open to the Netherlands or Switzerland.

Priorities:

A. The language of instruction in my graduate degree needs to be English or French.

B. The degree I pursue needs to allow me to become licensed to practice therapy on children in at least one country in Europe.

C. I am open to practicing telehealth in the US as a way of getting supplemental income. I don't know how feasible that is with children, but maybe with adolescents. I don't know how getting licensed for that works.

D. Price matters to me. I don't have money to be paying for a masters in the US or something like that. It's hard for me to name a specific budget, but ideally, I don't have to go into debt. I would appreciate guidance as to what is reasonable.

E. Aside from education, good healthcare, women's healthcare/rights, LGBTQ+ rights, religious freedoms (by this I mean freedom from religion), and a good place to raise a family (whatever that means) are important to me. Yes, I know nowhere is perfect and right-wing movements are surging in a lot of places. To me, France isn't pushing for religion as much, they protest a lot, they have "free" healthcare, and they aren't attacking women's healthcare yet. That's what makes it better than the US.

Main questions:

  1. Is a Ph.D program still right for me? How do degrees relate to licensure? Are psych licensing practices similar throughout Europe or is it different for every country?

  2. How do I search for specific programs? How do I decide what's a good fit for me?

  3. When do I need to start applying to programs to be able to move in Summer/Fall 2026?

Thank you so much. I appreciate everyone's help. I know this isn't easy, but I can't even mentally deal with being in the US right now, much less for the rest of my life. To some people, even considering moving is ridiculous, and running away won't solve the problem. The way I look at it, the people who survive things like this are the ones that gtfo as early as possible. While the US will always have a special place in my heart, I don't feel sad at the prospect of moving to Europe. I don't have a lot of friends and most of them are already digital.

Advice and just chatting about being in a similar situation are both welcome. <3 Feel free to ask questions, and I'll try to respond and make edits. Thanks.

[IWantOut] 22M USA -> Scotland

I’m currently in my final year for my undergrad at Uni studying Computer Science. I got a cousin who lives in Glasgow and has been a UK citizen for over a decade. [IWantOut] 24M Chile -> France or Germany

I'm a 24yo male from Chile. I've decided to move abroad due to a lot of reasons, many of that related with my professional future objectives that in my current country I cannot reach and the current state of it when I have to live in a country with rising crime, gangs and violence and economical stagnation.

Due to personal reasons and the Covid pandemic, I decided to postpone studying in the university and I preferred to work, finally in 2024 I started to prepare my application to university on which recently I was notified that I was accepted in the best University here to study a degree.

The problem is what I mentioned before was the original plan, right now I don't know if continue with it because I don't know if I can live 4 more years here. Last year I was robbed two times with a gun, situation that provokes to me mental health problems like extreme paranoia and panic when I'm in the street. Also Chile is having a lot of problems that are making this country a shithole without any intention to solve it and unless you can pay for a privileged neighborhood, you are submitted to situations like I mentioned before.

I have to say this too, this is not a bad country and I know that I'm in a better position than the rest of the developed world, but it have its serious problems and realities that I don't want to live forever and in which I don't want to raise a family.

So, what can I do? In both cases my idea is move to France or Germany with the difference that if I move right now I would apply to a Working Holiday visa and then to a University in one of that countries.

TL:DR: I want to move out, the problem is I don't if do it right now or 4 more year because I was acepted in the best University of my country.

[WeWantOut] 44f 42m US -> Scandinavia, Japan, Ireland

Married couple, no children. 44F with BS Biochemistry and MPH - Epidemiology. Lots of experience in micro and molecular biology labs, and a beginning career in Public Health. 42M with BS Software Engineering, but has been house spouse since shortly after Covid started.

42M's great-grandfather immigrated to the US from Ireland. Unfortunately that is one generation too many to be able to get Irish citizenship.

44F speaks only English, but some experience with Spanish, German, and Japanese. 42M speaks English, was fluent in Spanish but has lost most, and is basic in Japanese. Both are willing to full immersion to learn as fast as possible.

Financially we could pull together approximately $50k though it would deplete retirement accounts. Preparing to sell the house (assuming the market allows) and potentially could add $150k afterwards. Depending on sale price.

I (44F) have been looking at public health jobs around the globe, or a PhD program. Unfortunately we don't have the money to support ourselves during a PhD program, and most public health jobs either require a PhD or more experience than I have.

I realize this sub is getting overrun with people from the US, and I apologize for contributing it.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Edit: Removed former title at the start, and a possible not allowed statement as to why were wanting to leave.

[IWantOut] 26M US -> France

Single guy with a Psychology degree.

Hey friends, a couple of years ago I got my psychology bachelors (b.s) and I've been working administrative jobs since then.

I've for a long time been interested in studying in Europe, and recently I've come around to the idea even more.

I would like to either pursue my masters in psychology or perhaps other fields like Literature, Politics, History, etc if psychology is not a viable root.

I plan on being fully fluent when I do this.

I understand the French way of psychology is different to America and the DSM. What I want to know is there anyway to really pursue a masters in France/England/Netherlands with my American bachelors? Or would I have to go backwards.

I've done a lot of googling with inadequate results. It always seems to think I'm asking a different question. I would talk to an advisor if I could. If I went another masters route with literature, history, etc I'd probably want to work in an academic or community serving space.

EDIT: I'm a fan of a lot of French culture, specifically their approaches to fashion, food, community, art, and work/life balance. I've spent 3 weeks in France beforehand and was in love. I have made big solo moves before, namely moving to Los Angeles by myself after college.

Thanks for reading and being kind.

[IWantOut] 36M US -> Spain

Single guy, no dependents. I speak Spanish conversationally but would need to brush up in order to meet the expectations of working in Spanish professionally and day-to-day. Regarding work, I have been working professionally as an auditor for four years. Not a CPA, but I'm working on it. I have big 4 public accounting experience; however, I made the jump into industry a couple years ago because the 60-65 hour workweeks were getting to be overwhelming.

The "easiest" path would be to return to one of the major accounting firms and try to get transferred to an office in Spain, but I would more than likely have to build up at least a few years' worth of goodwill with the firm and make careful career maneuvers in order to sell the firm on the transfer. Ideally, I'd like to relocate within the next year or two.

Another path would be to obtain a position with an international company and then attempt to get transferred to a Spanish office, but it's unlikely that I would be able to identify a business with a need or capability for that kind of transfer from the outside. While there is a "Digital Nomad Visa" option in Spain, the company I currently work for is not likely to approve a transition to 100% remote work for my role.

I have not yet attempted to apply directly to a Spanish company from the United States but my general impression is that it's not likely that it would happen.

It is plausible that I could obtain Mexican citizenship by birthright in order to reduce the residency requirements for Spain but it would be difficult to obtain, as my relationship with my parents is heavily strained and there seems to be inconsistency on the Mexican consulate's side regarding what the requirements are; the staff at the consulate listed prerequisites and paperwork that are far more stringent than what their website says. It's possible that I would need to hire an immigration attorney in order to straighten out the process.

I don't have much in the way of savings, but am planning on reducing my rent expenses as much as possible within the coming year in order to retain more of my paycheck.

Looking for information, ideas, or potential roadblocks I haven't considered. Thanks.

[IWantOut] 27F architecture South Korea -> UK or possibly Ireland

Moved to the UK in 2017 on student visa (undergrad+master's), currently on youth mobility scheme, should be eligible for 10 yr ILR in Sep 2027 provided everything goes right. Youth mobility scheme runs out in fall 2026 and I've struggled to find any job, let alone a sponsored one and currently looking into doing another master's degree then. Unfortunately used graduate visa already and only got 1 year of it, wish I'd done more research.

Thing about architecture is - I'm currently an 'architectural assistant,' so not a fully qualified architect; will need 1 yr 3 months more experience to be qualified but obviously can't do that without a job. Tbh I can see why sponsorship is extremely unlikely in this case - was wondering how much luck I might have with gaining experience overseas and trying to make it back here, should the above plan go south. Alternatively if getting a job / sponsorship in Ireland may be easier?

I do have ties to a EU country and another east asian country, however I have no chance of building a life in south korea. Willing to work towards EU / Irish passport if that might make anything easier. Have also considered switching careers but think I might be overqualified with a Master's degree in architecture?

Asking here because all my friends are British citizens / EU citizens with settlement / wouldn't be devastated to go back to their country of origin. Any other insights into UK job market also appreciated!

[IWantOut] 21M Germany -> Spain, Cyprus

Hello everyone, I'm currently studying but in the future I wanted to move from Germany to a place with warmer weather in the field of marketing. (long-term migration) I speak German, Persian, English, Dutch and am still learning Spanish (around A2).

I tought about either Cyprus or Catalonia/Costa Blanca.

Which place would be better for the future and a place to build a long-term life?

Which place would be better when it comes to careers and salaries?

In Catalonia, for example, the gross domestic product per capita is higher than some places in Germany or France, for example. And the HDI is really high.

I also read that I could get along very well with just english in Cyprus.

How is the social system in these countries?

Is there a place you could recommend more?

thanks for an answer!

[IWantOut] 23FTM student US -> UK

Hi! First off the bat: I already have UK citizenship, so that’s not an issue. Yes, I know the UK isn’t a hot destination for trans people right now, but hear me out:

My course is very niche. There are very few schools that offer what I want to study. This is true globally. But I’ve found three universities in the UK that would work for grad school and am getting close to applying. Meanwhile I’ve found one university in the entire US that offers the course I want. So, bit of a bust here. That combined with the current administration, I don’t see much of a reason to stay, except I have no idea how I would fund my course in the UK. Though I’m a citizen, I don’t have the 3-year residency requirement for home fees, which would make the cost of my education prohibitive.

So, my questions are: what are some methods people use to fund their degrees in the UK (aside from like, being a Rhodes scholar)? What can I do in the next to years to maximize the ease of transition? Is there anything I’m missing (some reason I should reconsider my plan)?

[IWantOut] 22F Indonesia -> UK

My fiance (30M Indonesian) got a full time job offer in the UK. He will go there in May/June 2025. We plan to get married before he go there.

I want to go to the UK with him and live there. The minimum combined income requirement of £29,000 a year is fulfilled. We have been in a relationship for 2+ years (not living together since it is not the norm in our country).

But my fiance doesn’t have an indefinite leave visa, his work visa is for 5 years. Is it possible for me to join him to live in the UK?

Thank you in advance.

[IWantOut] 32MtF Texas -> Liberal State

Hello! I'm a 32 year old closeted trans person living in Texas I don't want to be in the closet anymore, but coming out in this state would be a terrible idea. The weather is also getting worse every year with the heat and storms.

It's for these reasons I want to move out of this state. Preferably a state with better weather and a more accepting atmosphere

Problem! I have know idea how to move out of state. Never done anything like that before. I also didn't know how I'd be able to get employment somewhere else. All I currently have is a highschool diploma.

I'm willing to do school to improve my career opportunities, but I have no idea what or how to pay for school.

Is there any path forward for me?

[Citizenship] -> Romania vs Hungary: Which should I get?

I am Canadian and I’m interested in getting either my Hungarian or Romanian citizenship since I might be interested in living there in the future, and with everything going on in the world now I think it wouldn’t hurt to get started on the process now. My parents immigrated from Romania but we are also Hungarian. My grandma was born in Hungary but that land is now part of Romania, so I would qualify for simplified naturalization. I do speak Hungarian except for vocab which doesn’t come up in normal conversation so I’m not too worried about that requirement. That being said though it would be easier to get Romanian citizenship since my parents documents are in the respective language and don’t need to be translated.

I was wondering if the extra effort for the Hungarian citizenship would be worth it. Does it take significantly longer to acquire Romanian citizenship (I would be doing it without a lawyer ideally) and is it actually more of a hassle? I know the Hungarian passport makes it easier to travel to a few extra countries but my Canadian passport covers all the differences so I don’t think that matters too much. Are both the countries expected to stay part of the EU in the future? I know Hungary’s been on a far right kick lately but should that deter me if I don’t live there? Would appreciate any thoughts!

[IWANTOUT] 26FTM US -> Thailand

Hello, I am a 26 year old Trans man looking for advice about moving to Thailand permanently.

Background: I have an undergraduate degree in Creative Writing and Film and an MFA in creative writing. I am also transgender & queer and very, very terrified the quality of life I will have going forward here in the US. I currently live in a high cost of living city where I feel safe as a queer person but am constantly worried about money and my current lease will be over August 1st and financially i'm not sure I can live here another year but my only other option would be moving in with my dad who lives in Texas :/

I just want to live somewhere I feel safe and don't have to worry about money constantly and can just not feel terrified all the time. I know that Thailand recently legalized same sex marriage which gives me hope, they have a lower cost of living, and from what I hear is pretty trans friendly. I just want to live somewhere I can focus on my writing and feel like I can breath if that makes sense.

In terms of work experience, I have only had retail jobs so I don't have a ton of experience. I'm planning to get my TEFL certificate before my lease is up in August and go move there to teach english, but I don't know much about the whole TEFL program and if there are better ways to become a teacher or if anyone has any other advice going down the teaching route. I also worry if my lack of teaching experience will preclude me from being able to teach, but I am currently in the process of applying for substitute teaching jobs in the hopes of getting some experience in the classroom.

I'm also open to any other job advice that people have. I will say that I have no interest in nannying, I don't mind teaching because at the end of the day its a job, but I'm not the best with kids especially one on one so i just don't think that would be a good job for me.

Any Visa advice is very welcome and I have no been out of the country in a very long time so I don't really know much or how long the visa process will take. I'm basically at the beginning of my moving journey so if anyone has any advice at all that would be really appreciated.

Thank you!

[IWantOut] 29F Aviation Canada -> France

Hello everybody!

I am an airline pilot currently working for a regional airline in Canada.

French is my first language and I am married to a French citizen. My husband is thinking of moving back to France to get closer to his family. We are not in a rush to move to France and I wish to take steps in advance. We are currently in the process of registering our marriage with French authorities.

So I would like to have some information on the steps towards permanent residency and most importantly the right to work.

What I have gathered so far:

  1. Apply for a Visa long séjour
  2. Apply for a Carte de séjour "vie privée et familiale"
  3. Apply for Résidence permanente
  4. Apply for Citizenship

So my questions are:

Will I be able to have the right to work in the beginning of the process? If not how long does it take normally? What are the chances of getting a job with a visa or carte de séjour? Any problems I can encounter during the immigration process that I don't know of?

[IWANTOUT] 28F Canada -> US TN Visa

Hi! I’m working in Canada currently as a Product (UX/UI) Designer with 3 years of experience. I’m looking for applying to TN Visa in the future and want to know my options in advance.

Should I apply as a Graphic Designer?

My educational background is different (BSc in Geological Engineering) but I am considering getting a post secondary certificate and need to decide if Graphic Design is something I can count on.

Appreciate your advice and help!

[Citizenship] -> Lithuania: How Can I Prove Descendance?

My great-grandmother left Lithuania in 1910. I'm having a lot of trouble getting documentation on proof of her being there. We found her father on a census so my dad can probably easily get dual citizenship if we translate it, but I'm concerned for me about the cutoff date. Other countries in the area need you to leave after 1918. My great-grandmother was chased out by pogroms and likely wouldn't have survived if she stayed. Lithuania just says they need to have left before 1990 which she did.

I'm worried about proving that she is who she is. I have many US documents where she put she was from Kovno/Kovna but I searched Lithuanian records and they don't have any of her. My other great-grandparents were born in the US, Belarus, or Russia so she's the only chance I have of getting an EU passport. If anyone has any experience with proving citizenship by descent, especially when there's very little documentation, I would really appreciate it. I am ok with paying a lawyer but would rather not pay them just for them to say it's impossible. I am also unclear on the translation requirements to Lithuanian. If that requires paying a translator and if I need to somehow modify the documents or give a separate document that has the translation.

I am a cybersecurity student finishing my masters next year. My aunt has residency in Portugal but not citizenship. I understand there is a path for citizenship in other ways but this doesn't have a residency requirement.

[Citizenship] -> Greece: Descendant of Greek Grandparent.

I have a grandma from Greece, and she is still alive. I did lots of research online on how to get a citizenship from descent. I am trying to find ways I can get proof of her citizenship online, and other evidence of my connection should be easy. Is there a way that I can find what my Grandmas Greek name was so I can search her records? I live in the USA with my parents, and grandma, and we have more Greek family in Canada.

[IWANTOUT] 23M BLIND USA -> MEXICO, SPAIN, PORTAGUAL

23ftm, 95% blind. Please keep in mind I am BORN BLIND, meaning I have 95% self sufficiency and I have traveled overseas by myself multiple times. I do NOT have a guide dog, just my cane. I do not qualify for a guide dog in America because I do not own an apt or home with a yard and I have to walk on / cross too many highways without crosswalks in my daily life which is too unsafe for the animal.

I speak Spanish (Española - Native Level) and highschool level Castilian. I do know Middleschool level French as well but it's not as good.

I have 15 years experince in crop work harvesting including horseback riding [Western, European, Navajo and bareback], horse care and minor vet skills (re: give shots, do 'burping holes' in cows, branding, meat cattle herding, cleaning out well pumps etc). [Yes, this is legal in America to start work at the age I did due to foster care farm allowances.]

I do have a bachelors degree Mass Communication from Texas A&M with a minor in Agriculture Leadership with a focus on economics. I have 5 years experince in public speaking, research editing and ad consultation for various large conventions in America [20K plus attendance] in exchange for hotel/food/travel costs covered.

I have been working with the American Gov Workforce for over 3 years with no success of getting a job due my blindness. [Vocational Rehabilitation / Workforce]. My worker has suggested that I move to another country or get a remote job in another country since she was informed that her job (aka the program) is most likely being shut down in the next six months due to funding bans.

I am having a hard time finding information for these countries, even using my VPN, on if I am even allowed to have a job visa there due to being disabled. I can see that they have programs for their blind people but from what I understand, I would NOT qualify for those unless I am a full citizen. (Understandable and fine by me.)

I am currently living off of $800 USD but this is a payment that I will get even if I leave overseas provided that I pay taxes on it. I generally have around $100-200 spare that I save every month.

I do not mind doing agriculture work again! My partner however, is very firmly against it because of the high levels of violence I have dealt with in that field. (If yk, yk why.) However, I do not think that any of those countries will be impressed with a basic bachelors degree even if I did graduate Cum Laude & Alpha Chi and I should focus on my agriculture experince instead.

I currently have around the max saved in my ABLE account (the amount I am allowed by the USA gov before it is considered fraud) which is $10K. I am not legally allowed to save anymore until 2026. [Total amount allowed in my life saved is $100K via Working Blind, as well as the $10K max a year.]

I plan on moving in about 2 years, NOT right away within 6 months or even a year.

If anyone could point me in the right direction for these countries on disabled visa allowances (if it's even allowed), that would be great!

[IWantOut] 23mtf Phlebotomist US -> Denmark/Norway

I’m a 23 year old Highschool graduate with an ASCP phlebotomy certification. I’ve barely started taking online classes part time for a bachelors in health science but that could go away thanks to certain people above us. I have an only a few (around 5 total) grand to my name, but I could sell my car for 12-15 easily. It’s fairly new and I can’t take it with me anyway.

Im from Florida in United States. I’m also a trans woman. America’s current situation is not a good place for me to sit on my hands. I’m trying to get to Minnesota for work where I’ll be safer but in reality that’s still just hiding under the oppositional situation. I want to get to Denmark, as I speak some danish and have a couple friends there. If not Denmark I’d like to go to Norway, or any trans friendly country.

I have no idea where to even begin. The nyidanmark site is kinda unclear and leads me to believe that only doctors can get a work visa. I’m legitimately terrified of our current situation here and want out of here. Please help me

[IWantOut] 18X US -> Spain

Hello, everyone! Due to some policies being passed/going/about to be passed on the US, I decided that it is no longer safe for me to live here as I am a non-binary second generation born American. My grandparents came here legally, but I'm still endangered of being deported and being discriminated against due to my ethnicity, sexuality, and gender identity.

After some research, I found out that I can apply for Spanish citizenship because I have the right of blood on my dad's side of the family and it would be easy to move since I have family members living in Spain. However, the only obstacle is that I'm going to college very soon and I'm not sure if it's possible for me to study abroad, earn my spanish citizenship, and then continue my education at the college in Spain. I do not wish to stay 4 more years in the US as I fear that'll put me in more of a bad spot.

Job wise, I'm currently trying to find a job, but I'm fine working any job if I can work in Spain. I did see that the employment rate is relatively low, but that won't stop me from finding a job in Spain (if I can even work).

My spanish is also the same level as a 1st grader, but I have family who can help me teach me more Spanish.

Edit: originally I talked about seeking an asylum in this post, but after some discussion, I now understand now that I cant and who it's actually for. I won't bring it up ever again. Thank you for those that explained to me what asylums are and who it's for. I won't respond to anymore comments that aren't going to give advice on steps to get a spanish citizenship. Thanks!
