Hey! My work permit is expiring soon and I’m filing to renew it, I’m unsure if I should file under my pending asylum or my approved temporary protection status. I started filing with my tps but my dad said I should use the asylum, I appreciate your advice. Thank you!

What are my chances and my red flag? Help a girl pls, all responses are appreciated 🫶🏽
Have applied multiple times over the years and tried again today.
I'm 24f with a US boyfriend, together for 6 years, he spends 6 months or so per year here.
Questions asked:
- Where will you go in the US?
- Is your boyfriend a US Citizen?
- Have you traveled to other countries?
First time I was asked this one and was happy to share. "Yes, I travel often with my boyfriend, I've visited a few countries in Europe; Germany, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Switzerland, also Australia, South Korea and many countries in southeast Asia"
- What is your work?
I don't have work, I like to travel, go shopping and sightseeing in other countries and don't have time for work.
Denied with the same reason, no strong ties.
I knew the work one was something that would be a red flag along with the 2nd question, but that's my true life story. After sharing my travel history to other countries, many of which require visas, I was hopeful that I'd have a chance to be approved this time around.
Seems hopeless as a young, unemployed Filipina even though true intentions would be as a tourist only similar to my other travel in the last 5 years. Any point to reapply or time to give up?
He will be getting a green card in about five years, and he has to decide whether to apply for H1B (university) or OPT STEM.
Our lawyer retired and we have no idea about the legal process and don’t have the money to retain a new lawyer.
What do we do now that our i601a is approved?
I read that the next step is applying for a green card at the us embassy in Mexico? How do I make an appointment for that? What do I bring with me? How long will I be stuck in Mexico? I’m the sole provider for my family so I can’t be gone long
If I get denied on the spot does that mean I can’t come back to the US? If I get approved is it an on the spot thing after one meeting there?
Hello, my employer is sponsoring me for an EB2 NIW. They believe I will qualify as a result of Biden’s 2023 executive order on AI. I have a few questions regarding the process that I was hoping I could get answers on as I didn’t find any clear cut answers to these in past posts.
1/ if my employer files on my behalf, how long am I tied to them once i140 is approved? I.e. when can I change jobs at the earliest without restarting my i140?
2/ to avoid being tied to my employer, would it make sense to file myself in parallel or will this reduce my chances? I’d rather not openly ask them if I can file myself instead of themselves because they’d likely ask why and the reason is, even if I don’t have any intention of leaving currently, I’d rather not be tied to any employer if i can help it.
thank you for your help!
Have an E3 visa interview scheduled for 9th Dec at Melbourne and flying overseas 21st Dec. Is this cutting it too close for passport collection ? Any recent experiences at Melbourne consulate ?
Rising Senior in NJ rn. Will only have spent a year on H4 so I will be a "international" applicant anyways.
Was wondering if it was advised to go down the CC route for a year or two then transfer to a uni later.
Does anyone know how the process plays out when going from H4 to F1? What documents are required, and would I be at a disadvantage when applying for F1?
I can write the longer version if needed, my BIL had car accident in April (USC), I helped fill out the visa process for my MIL (Mexican citizen), and she was granted a visitor visa, she already spent her time here in the US and will try to come back. Now how can she or my BIL get her to stay longer to take care of him, he is now considered disabled and cannot take care for himself, he can't go to Mexico (no medical insurance) and I can't take care of him since I already have my family and 2 small children.
Hello!
Need some help understanding the G4 visa process (working for the World Bank).
- If we are already in the US on a different visa (J1 visa in my case), do we need to go out of the US to get the G4 visa? Can I get the G4 BEFORE my J1 visa ends (which would essentially mean I'll have two valid visa stamps on my passport)?
- Do we have to return to our home country for the G4 visa process? Or can it be done in some other country (preferably Canada)?
- How long is the process typically?
Thanks!
Do both parents need to sign? My daughter has citizen rights through me and was born overseas. We couldn’t get her CRBA (despite qualifying) due to COVID restrictions. I’ve since moved back to the U.S. with her and brought her on ESTA to gain entry. Her father won’t sign for anything like that and we are battling it out in divorce court as well as Hague convention (I won but he’s appealing with no chance of winning). I need her citizenship verified to get her an ssn to continue receiving Medicare because she is disabled and goes to a “school” that runs on insurance. Medicare has flagged her account now after two years because of no ssn so it’s very urgent. I’ve read that she doesn’t need to proof lawful permanent residence because she has automatic citizenship through me, but the uscis website makes the lpr sound mandatory which makes no sense since she’s already a citizen?
To preface this my siblings and I were all born and raised in the States so she’s a citizen. My sister legally married her husband about 4 months ago. But in our religion they cannot live together until they have one more ceremony, which is planned for March. (Also none of us were for the marriage because all of us could see that he was manipulating her)
After her court marriage she came to live with me (in another state) so she can get herself in shape before then. In that time frame my sister has had massive fights with him. She didn’t tell me about the fights but I could hear her screaming almost all the time.
Recently she started opening up to me and told me that his family calls her and acts all sweet with her then says “hey don’t worry about the ceremony it’s no big deal. We just want him married and happy”. And she’s beginning to think the family just wants to get the green card for him. But she’s not realizing that that’s what HE wants as well. She also told me that he said to her “I miss my family so much you need to apply now and we will do the ceremony (from the husbands side) over there with my family” She says to him that can take almost a year and she’ll probably be pregnant by then, so she can’t go there anyway until after. And he responds with well we won’t try for kids until after. Needless to say she was so shocked by what he said and hadnt slept all night. I also heard him calling her fat, a cow, a fat***. And so on.
He keeps pushing her to apply for the green card since day 1 but she still thinks he’s not using her.
My question is, is there anyway we can contact immigration and let them know what’s going on?
Anyway we can get him deported?
We’re so worried about her because of the obvious emotional abuse he’s putting her through.
Like every time he yells at her or says the most derogatory stuff to her, he’ll love bomb her the next day by sending her flowers or makeup or so on.
We’re so extremely worried about her and we need advice on what we can do
It’s gotten to the point that she barely sleeps and eats.
My dad applied for military parole in place and got approved. We applied for greencard July 20th and he has gotten his I-785 approved and are just waiting for I-485. I’ve been planning to quit my job and leave the country for 2 months. Can I?
Got a general discharge under honorable and have a dui in my record
Have heard mention of public charge but I’m not sure if information I’ve seen online is up to date…thank you!
I am currently in the US. My existing H1b Stamp (and i94) is valid till 2026(old employer)..
my h4 got approved in the first week of October and then my new employer did a premium transfer end of October.
Would i need a new h1b stamp if i travel out of the US? Or can i re-enter using my existing visa stamp?
would like to hear from someone who was in a similar situation.
Any help is appreciated, Thank you!
Hello, my parents been here since ‘97. They never got their green card. My mom claimed she wanted to wait until I turn 21. My personal opinion my mom was too busy taking care of my alcoholic father, time just slipped by her I guess.
My mom (mostly) and dad has worked their entire lives and is currently residing in a homeless shelter.
How can I go about obtaining citizenship for them (at least for my mom) in the least expensive way?
I’m married and have one child. I use my mom for childcare as I finish school, if that helps.
I saw this thread, but wanted to open up to others who might not be in it.
In the thread, it appears to be the case that if a US L2-S is awaiting an I-539 decision, but their spouse has already been approved for their L1 I-129 renewal, and the L2 holder has a valid L2 visa sticker in their passport that won't expire for a while, in order to renew their I-94 all they have to do is leave the country and re-enter with the L1's new I-797.
Why doesn't everyone do this, rather than wasting time and effort with an I-539?
I’m seeking advice on the best course of action regarding my immigration situation. My I-485 application (including my wife’s) was declined recently. I found out that my I-140 petition was denied, though I wasn’t informed about the denial initially. I haven't been told the exact reason, but I was told the reason was related to my employer’s tax filings. My attorney has already filed an appeal for the I-140 denial with additional evidence. He believes there’s a good chance the denial will be overturned. As a backup, he has filed a new PERM application, factoring in the time left on my H-1B (till Nov 1, 2026).
Questions:
- How long does the I-140 appeal process typically take? Has anyone here had success with such appeals?
- What is the expected timeline for a new PERM application to be approved?
- If the appeal is denied, and the new PERM is still pending, should I consider requesting my attorney to file a new I-140 next year regardless of the new PERM status?
- Are there other steps I should consider taking (e.g., consulting with other attorneys for a second opinion, changing employer, etc.)?
Musk and Miller gonna be fighting this one out.
Hi everyone,
I’m seeking advice about my Diversity Visa (DV 2025) application. My case number is in the EU region, and according to the Visa Bulletin, it falls within the current range. However, I haven’t received any updates about my interview appointment yet, even though I submitted my DS-260 form back in July 2024.
I’m wondering if this delay is normal or if I should contact anyone to check the status of my case. Has anyone else experienced delays with their case number becoming current? Any advice on what steps I can take would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hey everyone, I am an Indian citizen who came to the US as an international student to pursue a bachelors degree in Computer Science. I have completed my degree and have started working through my OPT work authorization for about 3 months now. My company is e-verified so I can extend my work authorization for 2 more years.
My girlfriend is in Canada and is a permanent resident there, and we plan on getting married in a couple of years but she wants me to move to Canada asap. I also want to be with her because long distance is really difficult. So I wanted to ask what options do I have to move to Canada and work there?
The only path I am seeing is to get a job offer from a Canadian company that would sponsor me for an LMIA, and then I could apply for a work permit and move there. Is there any other legal path?
Can they deport me after first court date?? I came in thru CBP One. I am a mexican national…
Hi all, has anyone successfully came back legally to the US after being out of the country for 10 years due to a permanent immigration bar? My family and I are planning on leaving the US so my spouse can have a pathway to PR. I know 10 years is a lot to consider, but we truly believe it is what’s best for us and our family’s future.
I would love to hear about success stories if you or anyone you know went through the same situation. :) TIA
Hi, I’m about to file N-400. My divorce was filed in September, but is not yet finalized.
I’ve been a resident over five years, and will file the n-400 as separated.
Any suggestions for evidence to include? I will include my action for divorce paper work. Should I include a supporting statement regarding breakdown of marriage or anything?
Appreciate any help
Hi Everyone, I booked my L-1B visa interview with visa category as "L1 (blanket)". Which got me OFC/in-person interview slots.
My prior visa is L1B blanket but seems like the renewal is using an individual petition.
Will my appointment be a problem? Should I cancel and re-book under "Employment based H&L visas" category (which goes to an interview-waiver option in my case)?
I recently moved to Canada for work and my family is in the U.S., where my wife is on an H1B visa, making me eligible for an H4 visa. I plan to visit my family a few times a year. Should I apply for an H4 visa or a B2 visa? Given the long wait times for a B2 visa, would entering the U.S. multiple times on an H4 visa raise any concerns ?
Hi all, a friend left the US in 2022 and she got a tax refund last yr for 2022 but doesn’t know how to get the money. She prematurely closed her bank account in the US so can’t do direct deposit thus the check. Banks in her home country no longer cash checks (super weird, I know!) so now we are all stumped. Last year’s check has since expired and they sent her a letter (to my address) telling her to call them and request a new one, but she will have the same problem. It’s no small amount either!
Does anyone have experience getting their refund from IRS when no longer in the US and with no bank acc here or plans to come back to the country? Help!
I’m an American currently living abroad with my Spanish husband. We are thinking about moving back to the US. I’ve been living abroad since 2018 and have been filing taxes. Where do we start with the process and how long will we have to wait before we can both live in the US and work?
Hello! I have completed almost all my paperwork for my short term residence permit application. These have a very high rejection rate and I'm really scared. I'm American and 20F applying for tourism purposes with my friend's family hosting me. We have a signed notarized undertaking from both parents, proof of sufficient financial means from my host family, valid passport, 2 years worth of health insurance, biometric photos, money to pay the permit fee, etc. (all the listed commonly requested documents). I am applying for residency in Konya. Does anyone from this city specifically know the rejection rate in my case? I would request for 1 year touristic residency. I'm very terrified to finalize my appointment in the case that it is denied and I must leave the country in 10 days when I'm just settling into a new home. Thank you!
