Hi, so i applied for my work authorization last december, and have been waiting eagerly lol but in early january i got a later saying it was rejected because of an incorrect fee. Now the other day i got a letter of receipt notice saying they are processing the application and it’s says the fee was $520, what i sent in initially. I’m just confused as to why they would send the rejection, and then say it’s actually being processed??
So I was born in Russia and adopted by American citizens in the state of Minnesota at the age of 3. I have a us passport, drivers license, social security card, and voters registration however my parents lost my original birth certificate and whatever American birth certificate equivalent (not sure what exact form). I am now over the age of 18 and would like to get a copy of my birth certificates and make sure I have proof of my adoption/ us citizenship as I am worried about all the immigration problems in the US. But I have no idea how I would even go about getting this paperwork. Does anyone have any advice? I'm pretty sure my parents went through the Russian embassy in Minnesota but I have no idea. Also I think I have like a US birth certificate from when I was adopted or some equivalent thing that proves my adoption but sadly this document was lost and I have no idea how I would retrieve this. I also used to have a Russian passport but my parents lost this as well. Please help!!
Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well! 🤍
I have a question, how long did everyone have to wait for their work permit, and what did you do while waiting for it? I am currently in the process of the K1 visa, obviously I am going to spend time with my significant other and finally be together, but I feel useless doing nothing. I hope you guys have some advice!
My husband’s Mom is an American citizen. She was born in the USA and lived there for 13-14 yrs, she then moved to Canada, got married at 19 to a Canadian and she had her son in Canada in ‘82. She got divorced, moved back to the states in ‘89 and took her son with her and he lived in the states for a couple years. He then came back up to Canada to live with his Dad. She stayed behind and has resided in the states ever since. My husband wants to get his dual citizenship. Please advise best course of action. Thank you.
Hey guys, I am planning to apply for B1/B2 visa to visit my gf in the States sometime after August this year.
However, I saw many post on Reddit stating that it is hard as hell to get one especially for SEA (Malaysia).
Sharing my current situation as of now, I am a Final Year student and doing my internship until end of July, My graduation is around October to November. I might or might not get a return offer.
My plan was to apply during May or June, where I saved up enough so that my bank statement looks presentable? Arnd RM20K-25K (5k-6k USD)not including flight tickets (I know is not a lot) for like a 3-4 weeks stay, since I will be staying over my gf house.
So basically we met during an exchange program in a third country, and she also visited me during December last year. (Don't know whether this is an useful info)
The problem is, my only selling point to prove that I will not overstay is that I have to return for my convocation. And I felt like this is not a very strong commitment to persuade the officers. If I do manage to get a return offer, which I will only know after July, but I am planning to apply earlier since I assume it is a lengthy process.
And my bank account doesn't seem persuasive enough? Furthermore, upon reading other post of a similar situation as me states that mentioning having a partner is a RED FLAG, but some saying I should be truthful? I am confused, but I leaning on the side of being truthful, as I am mainly going there to visit my gf and tourism.
Any advices or tips on how i should approach this to increase my chances?
Im 17 years old, a junior in high school. My mom has lived in the us for years. My mom has worked In the field for many years and has no criminal record. I'm scared something might happen. Will they take me away like a foster home or can I be alone without no one finding out. I live with my mom only. Is there any way my mom can stay in the us. My mom crossed the border about like 20 years ago and she also never had done taxes neither. What would happen to our house we rent?. Help help
Hello. I have a bit of a complex situation. My girlfriend is a DACA holder, as her, and her parents entered the country illegally from Mexico over 20 years ago. So is there a way to help her parents as a US citizen after I get married to her, and start the AOS, and AP process? I just want to help all of them stay safe especially in the current events going on. She also has a couple of siblings who were born in the US as well if that helps anything really.
I'm a naturalized US citizen and worried about when the government and ICE will come after me for indefinite detention. To be clear I have no criminal record but it seems like that won't really matter.
I am currently trying to leave the country and move elsewhere but unfortunately my only options seem like they could take months or years due to the difficulty of getting a visa and I want to protect my savings.
If detained by ICE do individuals still have access to their US bank accounts or do they get locked? I've already sold all my investments and am keeping all my savings in USD cash, but don't want to be restricted and barred from accessing it. Also with FDIC soon to be abolished I'm worried about whether my cash is actually secure in a bank. Is it better to try and transfer the money into a foreign bank, and how difficult is it to do so? Should I convert my cash into Euros or Pounds beforehand?
Most importantly how long do I have to get this situation sorted?
I know the case of someone who became a US permanent resident in 1992 (was a naturalized Canadian citizen at the time), left the US in 1994 and lived in India till 2002. They then returned to the US via Canada in 2002 and resumed living in the US. In 2016, they applied for and obtained US citizenship.
The fact that they went away to live outside the US from 1994 to 2002 would mean that they lost their US permanent residency by abandonment? And their application for US citizenship in 2016 is nothing but immigration fraud? Since US Customs and Border Patrol has entry and exit data from 1982 onwards, a complaint to USCIS and a resulting investigation will likely let the cat out of the bag?
Will using Medicaid on student visa be considered as public charge and affect my marriage case to a U.S citizen?
Hello, I (F25) am sponsoring my Moroccan friend (M26) that I briefly met when I was there for a study abroad program. we've been talking consistently for 3 months and he wants to come and study in the United States, we are not related but I will be the main sponsor (his dad might co-sponsor), although I am not working I do have enough funds in my savings for him to attend a very affordable language exchange school. What am I to expect in the interview process since I am not his relative or parent?
Hello everyone.
I am in a bit of a pickle when it comes to how to proceed, and I am sure that some of you might have had the same issue as me, and I was hoping that I will get some answers since I couldn't find any, and other subreddits left me with no answer lol.
I am in the process of applying to the J-1 exchange Teacher's program. I am still in the process of waiting for an agency, but that's not the point.
The issue I have is that my nationality is different to my country of residence. For context, I have been living my entire life in country A, but my nationality is from country B.
All my ties to include property, work, education, business, immediate family, friends, and legal obligations are in country A.
To my understanding, I have to demonstrate strong ties to my "home country", which is country B in this example, in order to successfully obtain a visa.
However, I didn't choose to be brought up here my entire life and have all my ties be in country A. I literally have not a single thing that ties me to country B.
Does that mean I should just give up on the idea of applying for the J-1 Exchange program?
Also some context which might affect this. I was denied a B2 visa 2 years ago for failing to provide non-immigrant intent, a mistake on my part for not doing my research and gathering all my documents and just going in blind expecting to make it work lol.
What do you guys make of this? Should I proceed with my application, or are my circumstances too impossible to overcome?
Hello friends,
To all the genuine individuals out there waiting for their Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)—don’t stress! If you’ve followed the right path, your PGWP will come through, even if it’s delayed. It’s your right, considering the ~$50,000 CAD investment to Canadian economy and 1.5 to 2 years of hustle as a student.
You know exactly what I mean. Stay positive!
My So's H1B expiration date was January 31, 2025 and was currently processing her H1B extension. That means her i-94 expiration day was the same day as well.
Unfortunately, she was officially laid off on that exact day. Her H1B extension was processing since October 2024, which would've allowed her to stay for 210 days if it wasn't for the layoff. Is she allowed to stay 60 days during the grace period (starting from her layoff) or is she considered illegal now?
Planning to import my car from Canada to the US. Normally cars produced in USMCA countries are duty free, does this change with the new 25% tariff Trump announced?
I just found out yesterday. Applied in 2017 and life happened and lost hope. Found a receipt and looked up the case and it say’s approved. What are the chances my I-485 gets approved? I’m going to look for a lawyer this Monday.
What is the ideal length of the stay for parents visiting USA on b2 visa ( visa approved already) with no prior travel history? Has anyone had long stays like 4-5 months recently and will it be an issue at the port of entry ( increased scrutiny from CBP officer) even if providing evidence to show strong tie to the home country like property documents and other proofs and of course the return tickets
Hey everyone, I’ve been in the U.S for 6 years and recently someone that immigrated here is trying to find their I-94 and can’t find it. I tried getting a copy of it online but it’s asking for a document number I don’t know which one exactly that is. I did some research and it seems you either need passport number or Visa number and they have neither. They do have the alien number on form I-131 but that’s not working either. I don’t if there is another way to the copy of it?
Hello everyone! The question is directed to anyone that knows enough about the subject or lawyers.
Can a Canadian citizen live in USA but work in Canada ?
Can a Canadian live in their own property in the USA forever ? Or how long ?
How complex the tax situation in this case ?
Thank you !
Hi —
I've been an international student (in the medical field) here in the USA. I have all the documents and legal status. I've seen a lot of posts about ICE, and it's making me overthink.
If I ever encounter them, whether outside or in very random moments, what should I do? Should I always carry all my documents with me? Should I just give them to ICE officers if they ask for them, or should I remain silent and assert my rights?
Thank you responding! :>
Minor. No criminal record. Over stayed visa obviously not by choice. Can I just get on a plane and leave? Sounds insane but it’s worth asking.
I'm currently on J2 and have applied for J2 EAD. Both my husband and I are Canadian citizens. He is doing his medical residency on J1 and would be doing his fellowship on H1B. His H1B would be submitted under premium processing. Is there an application that I can submit for H4 along with his H1B? I would also like to apply for H4 EAD. Can I apply for both H4 and H4-EAD simultaneously? What are the fees associated with them? Thank you!
Hypothetically, if things start to get really bad here in the U.S and all you have is a Salvadoran Passport as a TPS holder could you get on a flight and leave or do you need anything else? Sorry if this is a dumb question I’m just not well informed on how things work.
If a child gets US Citizenship through their US Citizen parent (divorced), can the other parent apply for citizenship after?
My dad’s visa was approved and entered the USA over 4 months ago. I’m trying to submit a request to understand what’s going on. I’m having issues submitting the request. What receipt number and date am I supposed to enter? Is it from the immigrant fee of $235? I keep getting an error message when I submit.

Hello everyone I had undergone transplant 8 years ago and am on Immuno-suppressants since then. I would like to know what is the procedure to import medicines from India to USA till my stay. I am a student coming to USA.
Thanks in advance for the reply
This is specifically for concurrent I-130 and I-485 paper filing.
As per USCIS:
Eligibility for a Fee Waiver
You provide documentation showing that you qualify based upon one of the following criteria:
• You, your spouse, your child, your parent (if you are under 21 or disabled), or your sibling (if you and the sibling are under 21) living with you, are currently receiving a means-tested benefit.
o Your household income is at or below 150% percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines at the time you file.
• You are currently experiencing extreme financial hardship, including hardship from unexpected medical bills or emergencies, that prevents you from paying the filing fee
She falls under all three categories and I can answer any questions pertaining to the eligibility.
Thanks
We've received advice from a lawyer for her to come here with ESTA and apply for immigration, while a USCIS official advised for her to just come here with her passport and apply for a B2 after we get married stateside.
I'm confused as to what to do, for my understanding it is difficult for ESTA countries to apply for B2, while the ESTA stated holders have no intention for immigration. What is our option?
Sorry if this doesn’t belong here. Am I considered an immigrant if I was born in Indonesia, but came to the United States as a literal baby? Both of my parents are Indonesian by ethnicity and nationality, though I gained US citizenship through my parents when they gained citizenship, which was when I was 13 or 14.
Personally, I feel like my experiences are closer to a second gen immigrant who was born here. I’ve heard of the term 1.75 generation immigrant but it just feels weird. But I always have the struggle (especially after I gained citizenship) of deciding whether to label myself as Indonesian or American. People say that you should just describe yourself as your nationality (and I only have US citizenship, since Indonesia doesn’t allow double citizenship) but it just feels weird considering I have a connection with Indonesia. I’m pretty sure my parents don’t really feel “American”. I label myself as Indonesian-American because that’s the best way to put it and I’ve literally had both Indonesian and American passports at separate times in my life but people think it’s “cringe” to describe yourself as two nationalities.
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had some recent experience with this. I got married 8 years ago, and my husband and I are considering moving to Spain. I wanted to get everything lined up so to speak, so I wanted to go to the Spanish consulate to I guess have them recognize our US marriage - so that when we go the process is easier and there are no problems.
I have the marriage certificate from the US, and I can bring my husband of course - but is there anything else I would need? Once the consulate has a record of our marriage - can he freely move between the US and Spain?
Thank you
