finger printed on Nov 12, finished LTC test on Nov 21st and submitted all docs and papers same day. Showed up today 11/29 on LTC portal with background check pending.
I took the LTC course and passed my range test in 2018(ish?), but I never got around to getting fingerprinted.
Do I have to completely start over since it’s been a few years or can I continue where I left off?
Good morning any gun owners with dual citizenship? Want to get my dual citizenship but don’t know if it’s going to affect me with my LTC & buying firearms in the future thank you
I went to go into a pawn shop today and they had only a 30.06 sign on the door. I carry my concealed weapon OWB at 3 o'clock under my shirt. I'm not trying to split hairs here but since there was no 30.07 sign would I have been in the clear to pull my shirt up and over thus making my concealed carry and open carry?
I left the store entirely as I prefer not to give my business to establishments with a 30.06 (although I kind of understand it from a pawn shop) I'm just curious if I would have been in the clear in that scenario.
Did my online ltc course. 10/12/2024: got my shooting proficiency certificate. Completed the fingerprints the same day. 10/24/2024: Checklist appeared with background check status "Under Review". 10/25/2024: Background check completed. Print Pending 10/30/2024: Mailed
I suggest call them once a week just to check on the status.
A random dude on the road and I exchanged words just because of a stupid situation (passing lane). The guy approached me while I was still in the car. I was also carrying my pistol (OWB holstered). While the guy was trying to walk over, I decided to still stay in the car. After a few more words exchanging, he left.
I am curious, if I also stepped out of my car with my gun holstered at that moment, would it be considered as brandishing or anything in that situation?
Hey everyone, I am in the beginning stages of developing an online Texas LTC course. I've noticed that most of the current providers use strictly video based learning. With those services, you pay, watch four hours worth of video, take the test until you pass, and then do your in-person stuff.
I would like to try something different, but before I do I'd like to get a read on what you, as the consumers, would like to see in an online course. From an Instructional Designer's perspective, video and text only content provides the least amount of learning potential, but are relatively quick to get through. Gamified and interactive content provides the highest learning potential, but may take a bit longer to finish for the end user.
Let's assume the cost of the course were the same, regardless of the design. Would you rather get through it quick and take the test until you pass? Or would you rather take your time and learn the topics through content interaction. No right or wrong answer, I want to know if the juice is worth the squeeze. Thanks everyone!
About to turn 21, was told online and by range staff I should get everything in order under 21 if I want to get a LTC by then.
Took the online course, next steps is to get fingerprinted and do a range test
Asked the gun store / range how I can do it, and they told me I cannot rent a pistol as I'm under 21, but if I bring in one that I own I'll be able to use it to pass the range proficiency course.
I talked to my father about him gifting me one, but he spoke with our cities police department and they told him if I was caught with a pistol at all I would be arrested.
This doesn't make sense to me, how can I apply for an LTC and be required to own a pistol to do the range proficiency course but have it be illegal for me to have a pistol?
Was he given wrong information or is it truly impossible for me to have one under 21?
I applied for my LTC and submitted my Certificate & Fingerprints in time but I was too late to do my Range test. I’m a CSI so my schedule tends to be a bit wonky. Would I have to completely restart the full application process? Or do I just need to open a new application and submit all my other documentation?
Is there a direct link to check current or expired licensure? My wallet was stolen a couple years ago, and I’m certain it’s expired, but was wondering if I could “renew” rather than start over. I can only find the new application links.
I’m from Las Vegas but I go to college at the University of Houston. I want to get a gun without having to get a Texas drivers licenses, so can I just get my CCW in Texas and use that to purchase one?
Maybe about a week ago I submitted my LTC application, uploaded documents and did my finger prints. When I go check my application status, I see nothing on the DPS page. Does this look right to y'all?
When the State Fair organizers announced this policy change, I was livid, and still am. The absolute stupidity of this policy is beyond measure.
The person who committed the shooting last year was NOT an LTC license holder, and therefore was not allowed to legally carry his weapon into the fairgrounds in the first place. He most likely got it from a friend passing it to him over the fence, or tossed it over the fence himself and went to retrieve it after entering. There is no law or policy that can be imposed that would prevent this from happening again, and now that LTC holders, some of the most law-abiding and police-friendly people in the State of Texas, are prohibited from concealed carrying at the Fair, the organizers have made the fairgrounds more dangerous to the general public by taking guns away from the good guys. We all know that criminals are going to ignore laws, and this policy changes NOTHING for the better, it only emboldens thugs to have more opportunities to commit crimes against good people.
Along with the reduced safety inside the fairgrounds, they have now endangered every individual and family that might be attending the Fair, by disarming us in the area surrounding the fairgrounds, which currently has the highest crime rate in Dallas. They have virtually ensured that muggings, shootings, rapes, and other violent crimes are going to increase in the areas surrounding Fair Park, because the thugs now know that Fair attendees will be defenseless. Add to that the fact that, quite frequently, items purchased at the Fair will be being carried by those patrons back to their vehicles, giving those thugs a more target-rich environment than before.
I, for one, refuse to attend the Fair this year and every year from now on until this policy is reversed. I will also strongly discourage my family, and anyone else, from attending the Fair, for their safety.
I would hope that everyone who is a LTC licensee will do the same, as when enough of us do not attend, sales by food and merchandise vendors will drop, which should encourage those vendors to push for the Fair organizers to reverse this abomination of a policy.
If you would like to contact the organizers to express your displeasure with this policy, you can email them at info@bigtex.com.
Hey guys, question from my European friend. If someone was admitted to the US under visa and then, without overstay, applied for affirmative asylum which is pending, is it real to get an LTC? All documents are on hand (DL, unexpired visa, EAD, Texas hunting license, and LTC certificate)
And of course when I say enforceable, I mean in the sense of enforcing 30.06 and 30.07. They can obviously still ask you to leave.
Good morning, planning on making a quick trip to the north star mall today. On the website it shows no firearms but on the app “Texas 3006” it says the sign is invalid. Has anyone seen the sign or know if it’s 30.06 or just 30.07? Thanks guys!
I rolled a stop sign and was pulled over by a LEO that was lurking in the shadows. I present my DL and CHL and he inquires if I'm carrying right now. I was not and let him know. He was a little disappointed in me and said "You should be carrying every day." I laughed and agreed with him, " You're 100% right, the way society is decaying I should be." He gave me back my cards and said "Just a warning today."
It's been a while but went through a smart radar trap where they had set up a 2nd trap after the first one on I-35. I passed through the 1st one and believing I was free to resume my 100mph+ journey, hit the gas and was immediately triggered again. I hit the brakes hard but they got me, pulled over and approached, "you know why I pulled you over tonight?"
"I do, because you guys are smarter than me." The LEO laughed and then asked about any weapons in the car. I happened to have my stainless 7mm Rem Mag Sendero in the car and offered to show it to him and let him try the trigger. We stood at the back of the car, a Porsche 928S and he cycled the action and pulled the trigger several times.
Despite the fact I was going 103, he let me off with a verbal warning.
Being nice and 2A with cops doesn't always get me out of a ticket but it has a few times.
Does the LTC-6 for Non residents still need to be mailed or can it be scanned with the other documents with the photo attached?
Hello all l've recently taken up an interest in Conceal Carry I've purchased multiple guns and never had a problem with waiting until recently I tried purchasing a firearm and got delayed and had to wait 4 days again. I'm sick of waiting and thought l'd get my LTC to hopefully speed up the process problem is I did my LTC course online and when I went to look at my documents they are displayed super weird, read weird and spaces in places they don't belong. I tried calling the the help line and explained my concern on how weird the document looks and read and was told it's completely normal I cannot find any hard information to clear my doubts if anyone here knows any better please let me know! I'd hate to submit my documents and them be rejected it displays the same on my laptop and desktop as it does in my mobile.
Had took my shooting test today and passed, then sent an application as well and submitted my ltc 104 signed by the instructor. Can I already take my fingerprints or do I have to wait for a email back from the dps? I’m confused if anyone can clarify the steps.
So, saw this sign at QT prohibiting firearms by unlicensed individuals. QT can't possibly get 51% of its sales from alcohol and I can't fine any laws stating you cant carry otherwise (like schools, post offices, etc).
My question is, this sign doesn't have any mention of 30.06 or 30.07, does this sign have any bite to it?
Can a unlicensed person legally carry, regardless if this sign?
Long story short. Applied. Was asked for additional details about a “Class C misdemeanor assault” that I plead no contest to when I was 19yo back in 1999, I’m 44 now. Obtained documents as I was asked, I sent in documents. Was denied on the grounds of “convicted of assault family violence”. Which is NOT what I was convicted of. We both were initially charged with assault F/V, but both of us dropped charges and paid fines only. She was a high school girlfriend at the time. Should I appeal? Anyone dealt with this before? Anyone know a knowledgeable 2a attorney? Help.
I would say that submitted everything all in the same day would be best. Look over all your documents. I submitted all my documents, fingerprints, and all on 07/13/2024. The checklist appeared on 07/23 background completed 07/25 and it was mailed 07/26. For me it was pretty fast compared to some of the other posts I’ve seen.
Here is my full timeline from start to finish
43 days total from application submission to having the license in hand, 45 days if you include taking the class
6/8/24 - LTC-100 class complete
6/10/24 - submitted application, course completion, and fingerprints the same day
6/21/24 - checklist showed with fingerprints & background check pending review
6/24/24 - submitted additional documents
6/29/24 - submitted addendum (forgot to put something on my original application so got ahead of it)
7/13/24 - fingerprints received and background check completed, print pending
7/19/24 - license mailed
7/23/24 - license delivered
My advice, submit everything on the first go round. If you miss something, add an addendum. You can find templates online or use chat GPT to help you write out one. I called every 8-9 days during the process to make sure I didn’t need to submit anything else and to get the status.
Now it’s time for training!
I’ve been trying to start my LTC application for a couple days.
I’ve made absolutely certain I entered my information correctly on the login screen, but it keeps giving me an error. If I try too many times it locks me out for 24 hours.
Employees at the DPS were completely useless when I called, in typical government fashion. They told me I might have to mail in a paper application.
Does anyone know how that works? I can’t find information about that process online. Do I just give up? Call my congressman? This is ridiculous.
Finally seeing green! Here is my timeline
6/8/24 - LTC-100 class complete
6/10/24 - submitted application, course completion, and fingerprints the same day
6/21/24 - checklist showed with fingerprints & background check pending review
7/13/24 - fingerprints received and background check completed, print pending
Made sure to submit any and all documentation during the application process to make it go smoothly. Called probably once every 8-9 days to check the status and inform them if I uploaded anything.
Patience is key! Submit whatever documents you have that can make things go by quick and just wait.
