This subreddit is for original high-quality gifs and associated help requests. Show off your new gifs, and see what other redditors have been working on.
But hey! None of that Tumblr business around here.
Check out the history of Gif Battles!
All gifs must be high-quality gifs. That's the name of the subreddit, so our hands are tied. We hope you understand. Please review our criteria here: /r/HighQualityGifs/wiki/submission_criteria
Please only post gifs that you made yourself and use direct links only. Attempting to pass off someone else's content as your own will result in post removal and may result in a ban.
All criticism in the comments section must be constructive. Complaints about gif quality or meta gifs will be removed, and you may be banned as a result. Our users spend a lot of time making these gifs. Be nice to them. There's room for gifs of all kinds here.
Please don't make more than 20 posts within a 1-week period. It's a bunch, if you abuse it we might start to care.
Direct links are required, meaning that the URL must end in ".gif, .gifv, .webm" etc.
Please tag NSFW posts when appropriate. No nudity, no gifs from porn videos, and no real-life gore.
Personal attacks, racism, bigotry, homophobia, witch hunts, etc will not be tolerated. Don't mention or complain about rules or mod teams of any subreddit.
We do not allow participation of users from hatereddits that ban due to actions in other subreddits.
No Sound... Ever ..... Apart from sound Sundays
Do not delete and repost a gif to make it perform better. Not every gif will make the front page
idgaf about watermarks, do as you wish because random peeps on instagram and twitter probably gonna steal your shit anyway - hero
Requests for gif-making help/advice are encouraged. Blank frames? Strange frame rate? We can help.
Made a new gif for /r/reactiongifs? /r/gifs? /r/mylittlepony? Post it here too! (maybe skip the pony gifs).
This is not a super serious sub. We are all trying to have fun here. If you want to come to this place just to be a dick you will be banned. The submitters here are going out of their way to make content for the world for free, remember that. If you act like a dick you will be banned.

I am starting to see more of my content reposted elsewhere and it is frustrating that there is usually no credit or connection to me. I usually make 2 versions of a GIF, one without a watermark specifically for HQG, and another with one to post elsewhere. Honestly, I don't do it often unless I know it has a lot of usability. I appreciate the community here, but even people I talk to every day have recognized my work but didn't know I made it.
Just because users like u/ElPinko "creatively" add their name, does not prevent it from being a watermark. I am just using him as an example because he does it most visibly, and by no means hating or mean to be disrespectful. I WISH I could do what he does. But When I have a 1 second GIF, how is it different if I flash my username by changing the opacity (so it is not even static) different than him flashing it several times across 60 seconds?
This post from yesterday was just removed - GIF here

The rule in https://www.reddit.com/r/HighQualityGifs/wiki/submission_criteria simply says "No personal watermarks."
So if I can't have my name flash for 1 second, but others can, you should strongly reconsider how you are enforcing this policy, or even better get rid of this silly rule within a rule that is restrictive to the point that it dissuades people from submitting their content here.
Is this something we as a community could reconsider?

Thanks for coming to my TED talk,

Edit: I appreciate replies from mods who were direct and provided their reasoning. I appreciate everyone’s stance, and would like to see more flexibility in this rule in the future. I only take issue with the rule, not the mods. So, thank you again for taking the time to talk to me.
