Thought I would post here as well as I did in r/GIMP

It may be possible all my research from reddit and off site are lacking. To be fair I am very new at the process so I'm sure there is tons to learn. Just want to find a good spot for it and any help.

Basically after reviewing a few links below:

I was able to:

• Download a video (720p)
• Use ffmpeg to cut to the 7 seconds I wanted to just that video clip
• Use ffmpeg -i input.mov -r 12/1 out%03d.jpg (to have less images was my thought instead of 24 or 30 and 1 but 30 and 24 gave me the same issues
• Opened As Layers within GIMP after using ffmpeg to split it up
• I used Scale Image to place the resolution width to 640x480
• I moved the RGB to Indexed and selected optimum palette of 127 with the Prevent Color Bleeding Algorithm
• I then used the Optimized as Gif under Filters > Animation > Optimized as Gif

It still came out to about 7-12MB depending on some changes and the quality seems to be lacking.

I haven't even scratched the surface of the troubles I may and will run into by attempting to add text and such to the gif itself.

Is GIMP still able to do this? Is Gif format still viable?

So many questions and haven't seemed to figure much out, so any better direction would be great.

I just tried to use NukeX option but I can't even import videos with the non-commercial license. So I'm going to go back to figuring out something via GIMP I suppose. Just wish there was something a bit more updated out there on GIF tutorials.

I have been looking everywhere for a tutorial on how to make an HQ gif. I have been trying to figure it out on my own but it’s just never HQ enough. FYI, I know how to make a « normal » gif using Photoshop. I have Photoshop and After Effet. If anyone could share their techniques on how to make an HQ gif, it would be very much appreciated! thanks in advance🙌🏼

So I've tried various apps to convert an mp4 to a gif, but each one either has too low fps, or doesn't allow long gifs

Hello everyone. I need some help on turning a video into a gif that I can extract the sprites from the video pixel by pixel. There's a game called Mother 4 or now knowns as Oddity and the sprites sheet of the game still not exist because the game hasn't released yet. There is some gif that has a good quality that can easily be extracted but not enough movement and most of it are in some of the videos in youtube. I tried Imgur but it refuses to work because it doesn't accept youtube links anymore.

Note that the gif is around 320 x 180 pixels.

Anyone here knows how to do this?

I've got some video I screen recorded on my Android phone, but I haven't found a good app for converting MP4s to gifs. Should I just upload it to imgur or something and just download the output?

I had a very long and happy relationship with Gifbrewery, but recently it’s stopped allowing me to add text, which is super weird and we can’t figure out how to fix it. I can still make the gifs, I just need a separate application to let me add text to it. Any suggestions?

I'm trying to put my own words into a gif where it starts off black and fire comes in to display the words. I found this really cool effect on the gif below but I have no idea where to even start.
