Few light novels are missing because i can't fit them all neatly

I can see why Haruhi comes off like a harem at times, but I honestly think that only two characters have had romantic feelings for him and that’s Haruhi and Sasaki.

Along with that, these characters don’t merely play a role in Kyon’s character development, rather they’re all on their own journeys and the nature of Kyon’s relationship with each of them reflects or complements these journeys.

So I just listed the characters and how I see their relationship with Kyon as well as their personal journey/lesson in the story.

Haruhi- True love (balancing out. Learning to appreciate what’s already there, etc.)

Yuki- Deepest companion (learning to express herself and explore her identity)

Mikuru- Little sister ➡️ older sister( growing up and overcoming self doubt)

Koizumi- Brother (Learning to be honest and open)

Sasaki- First love (learning that she isn’t an island and needs connections/attachments)

So for some context, I'm currently watching the show for the first time with some friends. We just finished the 'Sigh Of'... arc and I had no idea this show was so well regarded - I thought it was just a light comedy slice of life with a unique premise.

Anyway, this isn't me trying to crap on your beloved show or even argue - I genuinely want to understand if I'm missing something. Here are two main issues I have with the show at the moment, just so you understand where I'm coming from:

1. No character development / brushed away climaxes. I want to point to a specific moment here, which is when Haruhi is directing the movie. She drugged Asahina and forced her and Koizumi to kiss. This is a moment where she pushes things too far, for the audience and for Kyon. Kyon does confront her about this, and it's this huge moment where Haruhi is finally challenged about her disgusting and selfish behaviour. This, however is just hand-waved by the writer, Haruhi doesn't change her actions, and Kyon's relationship / interactions with her do not change. The same thing can be said about the murder during Remote Island Syndrome, however to a lesser extent since it ended up being fake.
2. The characters have no depth. So this one is seemingly controversial, and often met with "you just don't understand subtle writing" types of responses from what I've seen. This is the point that I really want challenged and I want to be able to understand what I'm missing here. All of the characters are cliche to a various extent - this is apparently intentional and the show/manga is supposedly playing with or subverting this. But I just don't see it. Haruhi is great, even though I want to see her be truly challenged and develop, she is at least intentionally a bad person, and it plays with the fact that she has godlike powers and always gets what she wants, which is often unhinged. The others, however, are pretty much just their cliches. Obviously, the fun of it all is that they each have huge secrets that revolve around Haruhi. They know of her powers, which serves as the subtext in every interaction between them. However, in practice this doesn't mean much. The subtext and their secrets don't really impact or add depth to any interaction, all it means is that they have to go along with what Haruhi wants. When they are doing crazy high school stuff, which is most of the time, their secrets play no role. They just play their archetype as a highschooler. Just because someone's an esper or time-traveler, it doesn't mean they're a deep or interesting character. They don't really have different or conflicting motivations, they all just want Haruhi to not screw everything up - at least at this point.

I haven't seen the movie yet so please no spoilers for that. Anyway, I hope that makes my points clear and I'm looking forward to you destroying them. I guess I just want to know if there's maybe some broader cultural context in the anime cannon that I'm missing. Perhaps my understanding of anime tropes is lacking and at the time this really did subvert them. I don't know, but I want to.

I got a question I would like to ask, did anyone was able to watch 'SOS☆Thanks Festival - Celebrating the 20th Anniversary! The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star Thanks Festival' during March 2024?

If so...

1. Were you able to watch it using 'Niconico Live Broadcast' site (while purchasing 'Dwango Ticket' https://dwango-ticket.jp) or 'EPlus Streaming+' (https://eplus.jp/sf/streamingplus)?

2. Were you able to use a VPN service to see the live archive paid recording without having any issues? As well, what kind of VPN provider were you using?

3. Was seeing the live show was really good and worth it?

The reason I'm asking this question because was able to purchase one ticket for '＜昼の部：らき☆すた＞SOS☆感謝祭プレミアムステージイベント' / '< Afternoon: Lucky Star> SOS☆Thanksgiving Premium Stage Event' through Dwango Ticket and signing up to NicoNico website (for the first time) to unlock my ticket to watch the show.

Even those I was outside of Japan, I was doing it as a test to see if I was able to do it.

But for some unknown reason I wasn't able to unlock the paid archive recording. It kept on saying "This program is not available in your country or region." Even those I was using a VPN (I was using ExpressVPN).

I search high and low to find the answer of how to watch paid NicoNico video while using a VPN.

But I wasn't to find the answers and I missed the paid archive recording of both The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star.

So if anyone was able to go pass all these obstacle, I would like to know how please?

I’m looking where I can read the light novel volume 10+ I’ve only been able to find 1-9 does anyone know a place or should I just buy it even I can if there is none.

And why other interfaces did not do the same thing? They wanted to explore Haruhi powers so badly...

Who are the ancient spirits sent to...protect...or curse their own bloodline?

What's the deal with the ancient jar of incense?

Why is there no clear good or bad character, just morally grey ones? (Sasai, notwithstanding)

Why do characters appear possessed...but also not, sort of heightened with evil power, which shows in their eyes now and then.

Is Souji's brother his "brother" or it just an evil side to him?

To be honest I don't think I can spoil this series. It doesn't make a hint of sense.

Though the The Tale Of Genji is a clue.
