I’m looking for a Hong Kong TV series from the 1980s or 1990s. The protagonist is a martial artist who dies on a movie set due to an accident. He enters the afterlife, depicted as a prison where guards are in a separate room feasting on steak while prisoners suffer. He leads a revolution, forcing the warden to flee by climbing a fence in the prison yard. Afterward, the prison becomes a rehabilitation center. There’s also a scene of the protagonist meditating in a yin-yang room. He can return to the normal world as a ghost. In one episode, he tries to help a man win at poker but is blocked by talisman papers at the gambling room’s entrance. The series is comedic, and the protagonist possibly has a lover. This is all based on my memory from watching it almost a decade ago so it’s not very clear.
Won two weeks ago. Charmaine Sheh for best actress in a leading role, The Queen of News. Jessica Hsuan for best leading female performance- digital, Kill Sera Sera.
Btw, individual entries are submitted by tv networks, so I guess TVB knew Charmaine Sheh queen of news would have a good chance of winning, so submitted an entry.

Any thoughts on this series? I'm not really following it closely but the few episode I've seen so far make for a fairly interesting story.
But given how predictable TVB can be, I'm only on episode 11 of 25 and I think I can guess who is the villian lol!
I remember watching a show when I was a kid in the mid to late 2000s. It was a romance drama about a girl with cancer or some type of brain disease. I think she received a white hat of some sort from the male lead and it was set in winter. Sorry for being so vague I was too young back then to remember anything else.
GREED MASK | the way the story line just unravelled and so much was happening at the end, I remember feeling so overwhelmed 😂
Personally, I think that Bosco has good acting skills and humour that most of the new HK actors don't possess nowadays in the filming industry.
Shame that he hasn't won any best male actor awards. Do you think he has a chance in the upcoming years to win one?
I am curious for next year because there's 2 HK dramas that he's involved in:
- Prism Breaker
- The Queen of News 2
What do you guys think?
I felt it was a little flat and anti climatic. The previous 24 episodes were so good. though they wrapped everything up, it felt a little flat
Can someone explain to me why Rosina’s character does not like Tavia’s character in the drama? Thanks!
I am a child of the 80s, grew up watching TVB dramas and HK movies of the 80s/90s. I have always thought the best HK dramas and movies were from this period. At the turn of the century, I stopped watching TVB altogether as I found their scripts, cinematography, acting pool dwindled. In recent years, the talent has become non-existent, I can't think of another actor signed to TVB today that can actually act. Ali Lee is a possibility, but if you put her in Mainland China, her acting is a dime a dozen. She only shines with TVB because there's practically nobody that can act.
I've stopped watching HK dramas consistently for about 20 years now. I watch the occasional grand productions in partnerships with Youku, or another mainland production company, but that's it. I don't think TVB will stick around for very long. It doesn't have the same mass appeal that c-dramas do, nor the budget, nor the plots, nor anything else to be honest. TVB dramas caters mainly to the Cantonese speaking world, and that's it. Within that, it's mostly females/housewives that watches it.
Hence the title, why are you still watching modern TVB dramas?
Does anybody remember this series from the 1990s about an old man who is kind of an exorcist. I seem to recall this old man resembling Yuen Wah but I might be wrong. The series is set in the wuxia era. This old man essentially ventures around helping to exorcise people from demon possessions. In the final few episodes, he has to descend into the underworld to save a small boy's soul. I recall a particular scene of the boy's bedroom wooden floorboard opening, with the usual ghoulish green lights shining out, and the old man climbing down. And when returning back up, after fighting all the demons in the underworld, the old man climbs up with the rope behind his back and the boy holding on to him in front. I think there might even be a part subsequently where the demon somehow comes back up and possesses this old man for a bit.
I also recall one of the episodes in the series that involves a bedridden and ill young maiden who turns out to be possessed by some demon.
I wondered if it's Dark Tales 聊齋 (1996) but I can't seem to find that particular scene in any of the stories so I don't think that's the one.
Appreciate anyone who can remember this series as it's been nagging at me for some time. Thank you!
Here's the list from which TVB voters will draw the top 10 nominations for the best actress award, to be announced Dec 2. From the top 10, the top 5 will be tallied and the winner announced jan 19. It's basically a list of all 2024 dramas produced by TVB and the leading actresses in them.
Top 5 will likely be Nancy Wu, Tavia Yeung, Kelly Cheung, Yoyo Chen, and one other.

Am I the only one that hate it when they play dramas that are Cantonese dubbed mandarin dramas? Are the dramas based on what people vote for? I personally hate it when they play cantonese dubbed dramas because I prefer to watch the dramas with actual Cantonese actors/actresses.
hello! i'm at ep 19 right now so i may not have the full context but there are some loose ends that they've yet to tie up (or maybe i just wasnt paying attention) 😭 would appreciate if my questions can be answered!
did they ever catch MD? (the contract killer) or did they just leave this case open...
i know ying was upset about being shunned for her eczema but they never explained why she had to use 46 needles to stab a cross into the victim's back???
there was this english-speaking guy at a japanese restaurant in osaka whose wife disappeared fot a while and later got sent to prison with mental health issues; he showed yu sir (bosco wong) a family portrait and he bought the fox mask that their son was wearing.
why did he even buy that mask? (it could totally be a random detail in the picture but it coincidentally became a lead to solving poying's disappearance lol)
how is it that the japanese woman was okay seeing her son with the mask but panicked when she saw yu sir take out that mask from his bag?
again, im only at ep 19 but feel free to spoil it for me if these have been answered in the subsequent 5 eps LOL
thankyou in advance <3
Can anyone help me remember this drama I watched when I was young? It was a period drama and I only remember some head of gangster who became weak and lost his power - cue flashback- cause a rival gang ambushed him and dragged him out of the restaurant for a beating and sliced both his wrists resulting in a scar on both sides
I need help from this community to SOLVE A MYSTERY!
There's a show I liked when I was a kid that I cannot for the life of my remember the name of. The main characters don't have recognizable faces, which lead me to believe that it's not a TVB show, but I'm not 100% sure.
Here are the clues:
- I watched it some time in the 1990s. Not 100% sure exactly what year, but my guess is early 90s?
- It's a period piece. I wanna say like a kung fu show but not 100% sure. There is magic in it.
- The main characters are two really poor peasants, a guy and a girl. The girl's name is 蛤蟆 ("toad"). Not sure what the guy's name is.
- At some point in the show, they encounter some sort of magic and there's a few scenes where they are transported into modern day Hong Kong, and they're confused and amused by all the technology and cars and stuff. I remember someone said "bye bye" to them and they thought it was "拜拜" like praying.
- The clues point to this being a comedy, but I'm not sure.
- Again, I don't know if it's TVB or ATV (or something else), but it was definitely in Cantonese.
Has anyone seen this show? Can anyone help?
Just wanted to share that I actually enjoyed this drama despite its shortcomings in the plot. But having watched this and now that it’s over, I’m feeling some levels of lowness (post drama depression).
I think it’s such a great love plot that was developed but the fact that it took 25 episodes to fully develop the relationship made me feel so empty when it ended. I wanted more out of it.
Anyone feeling the same way? Still trying to get rid of this depressed feeling after watching the full drama last night and it’s affecting my ability to eat and sleep due to this emptiness. TVB needs some new dramas to keep my mind busy.
where can i watch darkside of the moon for free? Im in north america
Hello, looks like link http://allrss.se/ dramas has been updating their Korean Drama episodes? Is anybody else seeing the same? Is there a new link?

I can't watch Dicky Cheung's TV show if it someone else who dubbed him. It have to be this particular voice. I don't know who did the dubbing, but his voice went so well with Dicky Cheung's characters. I always want to find who the voice actor was, but I had no luck.
I believe I watched this in the late 80s or early 90s. It was a period piece where some astroid type rock hit the planet and they used it to forge a sword and sabre. The sword had some heat element to it while the sabre had some ice element to it. Whoever wielded the sabre would go crazy (with the exception of 1 guy).
The final owners of the weapons might have been long lost brothers(???)
This one, finally out of the way. So many years in the making, so many disappointments.
First of all, let me just say that I am like the most of you, I ignored S3 for my sanity's sake. While I was initially saddened by the fact that Sheren Tang had pulled out of the project, in hindsight I think she dodged a bullet with this one.
Out of the three parts written by Cheung Wah-Biu, I think this one is his weakest (or laziest) writing. So many references to No Regrets (identical lines, even), and the fact that he still chooses to use numbers in characters' names? Can't we all call Deng Gui Chan as "Deng Ye" instead of "7th Ye" - like come on, there ain't even a logical explanation to that. We all call Cheng Kau Mui as "Miss 9" because that's her name lol. And what in the world is "Chai 17"?! Obviously a spin from the iconic "Chai Kau".
When episode 1 came out, I almost dropped my tea when they mentioned "Wing Yip Bank", like I get you're trying to reinforce your mark as the creator of the Rosy Business franchise, but to take so many iconic lines from No Regrets - it really felt (in my opinion) like salt in the wound. The pacing of the story felt weird and the aesthetics of the set really put me off. I know it's shot in Hengdian, with a much proper set, but it's too neat - like the fonts on the shop banners and other places are clearly printed and not painted on. While TVB City has a much smaller and cheaper set, the aesthetics of S1 was much more on point compared to this one. It's like they wanted the viewers to know that this is a joint production and not good ol' TVB. Both S1 and S2 started off episode 1 with tension and excitement, but this one was calm and the tension builds slowly. A big difference from its predecessors. And having 17 and 7 sing Red Butterfly together - while SingKau never had that?! So unfair.
Wayne Lai. He did what he had to, some great performances here and there, but the vibe of the entire thing really ruined it for me.
Nancy Wu, gotta say she did what was expected of her, but not her strongest performance. A character like Deng require an actor with insane screen presence, and no doubt Sheren would absolutely nail it. But it is what it is.
Edwin Siu. Again with the multiple persona thingy. It's either TVB running out of ideas or Edwin just have a thing for this.
I just remember watching this show in the 90s. It was about a little girl who lived with her grandma and father. They were poor. The dad ends up getting robbed and killed on her bday. The grandma ends up getting amnesia. The little girl gets kidnapped and sold as a slave to this other family. Does this ring a bell to anyone?
