Does Hong Kong taxi accept Apple Pay?

I have a 10 hours layover at Hong Kong and wanted to get to Tsim Sha Shui quickly after visiting Tian Tan Buddha. Do Hong Kong Taxi accept Apple Pay or is it better to carry cash?

Do they accept Octopus card?

Hong kong consumer rights on faulty products

I recently purchased a gaming product from 2000Fun, a PC hardware store in Hong Kong, and it turned out to be faulty just a few hours after purchase (literally on day 0). They informed me that since this was the last stock they had and they don't know when new stock will arrive, they are only offering me a repair service instead of a replacement or refund.

Given the situation, I wanted to ask if this is in line with consumer rights in Hong Kong. Am I entitled to a replacement or a full refund for a faulty product purchased within such a short time frame? Or is the store’s repair offer standard practice in such cases and I have to accept such terrible luck?

Would appreciate any advice or experience from others who have dealt with similar situations.

Cheers

12.5 hour shift in Food and bev

Just started work at a restaurant chain and I was surprised that the shift was more than half a day long. I'm hearing from some of my friends that it's pretty common to have at least a 10 hour shift in the industry.

Is this the norm? If so, I think I'll have to find a different career

How to navigate Cha Chaan Tengs

Hi all,

I'll be in Hong Kong early next year and plan to visit a few Cha Chaan Tengs. I'd be interested to know a bit more about the protocols and how to behave, things like do I wait to be seated, should I tip, are the menus usually only in Cantonese?

For context I lived in HK for 3 years in the 2000s, have a little Cantonese (but not good enough to converse or read a menu/order), and am vegetarian (so I realise my options would be limited but happy to try what's available).

What are your thoughts and tips? Thanks.

Seeking advice regarding studying for HKDSE

Reddit might not be an amazing place to ask about things like this, but I'm a local student who is studying under this curriculum and is likely way too late to study and get good grades in something else like IAL. I've always had trouble with the English and Biology marking scheme and I keep meeting some sort of resistance towards studying for it in me (?) I'm not sure exactly why it's there, but it feels like part of me would be betrayed if I were to study for the marking scheme because I want to learn and study something to understand the knowledge of said subject, rather than simply studying it for beating the DSE like a game. Of course, anyone studying DSE would know that that is pretty difficult and borderline impossible unless you can somehow intuitively score everything in such a pedantic and narrow marking scheme. I know this probably sounds rather silly and petty but I'm still trying to figure out what I can do because even if I don't want to betray myself, I also want to use my grades for pursuing my childhood dream of a medical career in the future and this difficulty in studying is getting really bad- So yeah, any sort of insight and/or advice would be very much appreciated

TLDR: I'm struggling to study HKDSE English and Biology because studying for the marking scheme feels like betraying my reason and motivation of learning in general. I would love to receive any sort of advice regarding this because I want to get good grades to pursue a medical career which is what I've wanted since I was a child

Should you tip moving company movers in Hong Kong?

Would love to know more about the local etiquette, and if you should tip before the move to ensure they take care of your belongings haha, and how much should the tip be, if the move itself was quoted at around 3K-4K ?

Stores for Kung Fu clothes

Hey y’all, I’ll travel to Hongkong in spring next year and was wondering where to find these clothes(not only shoes) in Hongkong. I looked up the search bar here but didn’t find options, I would appreciate the suggestions and help, thanks.

Edit: What I’m looking for is a traditional uniform worn in martial arts. A jacket and pants, made of sturdy cotton or cotton blend material.

Why must you be 18 to exchange foreign currency?

I used to be able to but recently/now they ask for my age and tell me I can’t. There doesn’t seem to be any law against it so I’m just wondering why.

Fav Hong Kong experiences

  • M+ museum: I.M. Pei and Guo Pei’s special exhibitions are amazing! Especially loved the interview videos. Watched a short documentary of I.M. Pei on grand stairs. The sunset looked out from the stairs is lovely.
  • Took the central-mid-level-escalator (came for the Chungking Express scene) all the way from central to the top on a rainy night with my fav Cantonese song playlist. Felt like sitting on a ferries wheel watching the city passing by.
  • Had a lovely meal at VEA. Loved the music box dish playing 分分鐘需要你.

Bucket list for next time:

  • go on a bike ride to mountains nearby with local cycling club
  • take the peak tram
  • take a ride on the real ferris wheel :P

Other recommendations are always welcome xD

EDIT: thx y’all for the great recommendations! Can’t wait for the next visit 🫶

Suit Jacket Alteration Recommendations

Hi, I've just inherited a rather nice jacket (blazer) from my father, but the sleeves are bit too long, and I'd like to take the sleeves up but from the shoulder

Wondering if there are any recommendations for tailors/garment alteration places to go to in HK?

Don't mind paying more than the aunties/uncles at the wet markets to ensure it's done right.

Thanks 🙏

How long to leave HKG airport during Chinese New Year?

Hello everyone,

My friends and I are planning a trip to China and would like to see the Hong Kong fireworks.

We'll be flying into Hong Kong from Beijing on 30th Jan at around 6pm landing time.

Just wondering how long we should expect it to take to leave the airport, considering it's the 2nd day of the Lunar New year. We would like to get to our hotel by 8pm to see the fireworks in the Harbour.

Thank you!

Help! Arriving at HK International Airport 1:35 am

Hello everyone. I’ll be arriving at Hong Kong International Airport ar 1:35 am in March with a senior, a kid, and 2 adults. Is there a place in the airport where we can 1) purchase Octopus card (for 3 adults, 1 kid, 1 elder), 2) purchase Travel Sim or rent a pocket wifi, and 3) withdraw some HKD for the cab ride to the hotel?

Thank you very much for your kind help.

Solo Traveler Who Prioritizes Food

Hello! I am traveling to Hong Kong for 2 nights (3 days) in late January, and I really want to make the most out of my time. Food is probably the most important thing to me, but I also want to do some good sightseeing/adventurous stuff. I know HK is huge and this question is impossible (I'm staying in Wan Chai, btw), but do you have any must visit restaurants, for any meal? Below are some ones I want to try (recs from friends, coworkers), but I am eager to do anything that I'll regret not doing. If the answer is, "wander X street and grab what looks good", please let me know. If it's "this fine dining restaurant is worth the $100 meal", that's fine. Anything! Thank you. Also, what should I do during my time, other than walking around and doing the Peak TRAM?
- Yardbird

- Kam's Roast Goose

- Ho Lee Fook

- San Xi Lou

Please add!

HKIA SkyPier transfer time

早晨! I’m looking to book a flight into HK with a transfer to Shekou on the ferry but I’m worried about the transfer time. Would 1.5hr be enough time to grab my bags and get to the SkyPier or would that be cutting it a bit fine?

Low-key Christmas Eve dinner ideas?

Hi! I’m in HK for a few weeks including over Christmas. It’s the first Christmas that it’s just my spouse and I, and that we don’t have room to cook much. Was wondering if anyone had ideas for more low-key, casual place to go for a festive dinner? Every suggestion I’m finding is upscale restaurants, but I’m hoping to keep it under 1000 HKD per person, and no free flow alcohol. Very open for food options, although I don’t really care to eat a Turkey dinner here. If nothing else, I’m thinking maybe Hot Pot since we often do a Fondue Chinoise (Swiss interpretation of Hot Pot), but not really sure if we should try to get a reservation for that.

Hi everyone! My wife and I are traveling to Hong Kong end of the month - post Christmas until the New Year - with our 1 year old infant. This is going to be our first time in Hong Kong. Please suggest some amazing food places, which are baby friendly, and things that are a must that time of the year! Thank you.
