Question about issues

is anyone else having an issue where you click on something to watch and it just sits there and loads with the white circle spinning forever? Last night it would do that for about 30 seconds and then play, but would keep pausing to load every like 15 seconds.. idk, no other apps on my nvidia shield or sony smart tv are doing this so figured i'd ask. sucks because ifw this app but after uninstalling and all that with no luck, i'm unsure what to do so just curious if it's just me and maybe my internet router or something else.

I hope HBO does a Band of Brothers-style miniseries on the 442nd Infantry Regiment. It was the most decorated American unit in WWII and an almost exclusively Japanese-American infantry regiment.

Get back to the good old ground warfare style of Band Of Brothers and it would be more cohesive than The Pacific since it follows one unit instead of separate ones.

OMG - both of these series were so good

I’m new to true crime (TV shows, documentaries, movies) and this week just watched Friend of the Family AND The Murder of JonBenet Ramsey on Netflix. I’m speechless 😵‍💫- both were just FANTASTIC.

I knew nothing about either case going in and honestly struggled with the first episodes, but by the second, I was hooked. Def both of them are better ones I’ve seen.

For true crime fans:

— What are the best documentaries or series you’ve watched? Any streaming service works!

— For shows like (20/20, Dateline, or People Investigates) are there any of those that are better than others? OR are there any specific episodes or series you’d recommend?

Here’s what I’ve already seen this year:

— The Murder of JonBenet Ramsey — Friend of the Family (LOVED) — Playboy Murders — Menendez Brothers — Jail Break: Love on the Run — American Murder: Laci Peterson — American Nightmare — Ted Bundy — OJ Simpson — Perfect Wife Disappearance — Betrayal: Father’s Secret — Amanda Knox — Murdaugh Murders

Thanks in advance for your recs!

Unpopular Opinion: I liked Boardwalk Empire more than The Sopranos

I understand that this is sacrilegious to say and I am going to get down voted to hell but it’s the truth. I think there was one big reason why. I love mob/mafia/organized crime history. The fact this show was a historical fiction using a lot of real characters made me so interested in it and what other historical figures they would introduce. 1-4 are great and kept me interested the whole time. The 5th season wasn’t good admittedly, but it wasn’t offensively bad. Overall this is my favorite HBO series so far. I am not going to go into too much detail to avoid spoilers but I am happy to answer any questions.

Why is HBO removing scenes?!

This started when I rewatched game of thrones. I searched about missing scenes and seen ppl saying the same things. Then sopranos i noticed some to. But now I got CONCRETE proof! Watch the wire. Bowdie is supposed to get caught taking drugs to the drug free zone. I looked it up. It says episode 12 season 3. He claims entrapment and gets let go and that's how McNulty finds out about the free zones. NEVER HAPPENED. I searched through all of season 3 and it never happens. I used to suspect censorship cause the scenes from game of thrones missing were.... Insensitive towards women or other plights America is so obsessed with. But now I don't know. I read something about residuals but that doesn't make sense and the thing seemed to be talking about whole shows. Weird AF. Buy hard copies of ur favorite shows. Cause they constantly edit, change or delete em.

Game Of Thrones Finale?

There has been a Game Of Thrones marathon on HBO Signature since Thanksgiving. AFAIK, every episode aired in order. Except for the freaking finale?! I really got into it last night, and was committed to finishing it tonight. The finale was building, the white army had just broken through the wall, and then… nope. Why?

Max App Feature Ideas

First, a PIP (picture-in-picture) playback control that toggles between (a) full-screen and (b) PIP playback to allow viewer access to Home Screen, My List/Continue Watching, Downloads, and Search screens during playback.

Second, during playback, tapping the content title invokes PIP, and displays the content's description page.

Third, the episode description window (invoked by tapping the 3-dot menu control for each episode within the list of episodes) displays episode artwork above the extended episode description information.

Fourth, when the series's main description page is displaying episode information, tapping the series title (or a new "Series Information" button) displays a series description window (similar to the episode description window), containing series artwork and extended series description information.

Thanks for great content and an increasingly great app! 🇺🇸💛

The Tragedy of the Number 2: Why We Fell In Love With House of the Dragon's Alicent Hightower

Alicent Hightower is perhaps the greatest, most recent example of the audience falling out of love with a character. Her fall from grace in Season 2 was even more dramatic than the actual war unfolding around her, and to understand what exactly caused this, we must first ask ourselves why we loved her so much in the first place.

One of the most obvious goals of House of the Dragon was feminist representation, but it was clear that they wanted their icon to be Rhaenyra, NOT Alicent. In fact, as we all know, they even went as far as to describe Alicent as a "woman for Trump" - needless to say, they weren't fond of Alicent. They wanted to make her the foil to Rhaenyra, the internalised misogynist to Rhaenyra's feminist. But, in my opinion, Alicent Hightower - and not the Black Queen - came to light as the best feminist representation in the show.

Ironically, the writers' attempts to contrast the two of them backfired and only helped garner support for Alicent. They had this simplistic view that a feminist was supposed to be sassy, waving a sword around and smearing random dirt on her face while girlbossing her way out of trouble. According to the writers, in order for a woman to be empowered, she must adopt masculine qualities and reject the feminine. They thought that watching Rhaenyra receive so many privileges from the people around her - a loving father, a husband that so easily agreed to an open marriage, a lover that stood steadfastly by her side, a prince that was infatuated with her, a crown she never had to earn, even a giant fire-breathing dragon that has the power to set the whole world on fire - would trigger applause from the audience, when 99% of the female audience is entirely unable to relate to all this good fortune. Rhaenyra abandoned all responsibility, acted without regard for consequence, and was still loved, praised and covered for by her father. There is nothing relatable, feminist or empowering about this.

By contrast, the audience gravitated towards Alicent, because she is a better reflection of what the majority actually goes through. A woman who was abused and sidelined by all the men in her life. A father that was supposed to protect her but instead pimped her out to an old man. A husband that was supposed to care for her or at least for her children but instead pretended they never existed. These are experiences that most women can relate with all too well - love that is unreciprocated, attention that is merely tolerated, endless care that goes unappreciated. Sure, Alicent holds a lot of unfair resentment in her heart for women that have it far better than her, but a woman doesn't have to be flawless for the audience to be able to appreciate her. In fact, flaws can go a long way in helping us resonate with a character. She toiled away in the service of men around her, serving as daughter, wife, mother, maid and caretaker without ever receiving a single "Thank you".

But, in a scene that was far more inspirational than Rhaenyra waving a sword around or smirking in the middle of a bunch of dragons, Alicent picked herself back up. She displayed dominance and power, not as a "wArRiOr QuEeN" but through a very subtle expression. A green dress. A declaration of war.

Alicent began to hold sway over the royal court, influencing and manipulating the men around her while Rhaenyra was content to hide away in Dragonstone, enjoying the privileges of her inheritance without making any effort to truly earn it. It does mean that Alicent has to get her hands dirty, unlike Rhaenyra who only had to shed a few tears and her ailing father who had been on bedrest for the past decade forced himself up to defend her. And ultimately, that is what elevates Alicent as a character onto a whole other tier. She may never ride a dragon or wear chainmail and wield a sword, but she had to put up an unending, losing, life-long battle. She had to sacrifice her innocence, her integrity, her body and her youth to build her circle of influence and protect her children. She had to fight for what was freely given to others, without ever becoming someone's number 1. And at the end of the day, is there any other story that can evoke more powerful emotions in the female audience than this?

This is why we came to love and defend Alicent despite her glaring imperfections. But sadly, the greater the love, the greater the heartbreak, and in this case, Season 1 Alicent had so many qualities that the audience fell for - qualities that were nowhere to be found in Season 2.

Is Max app on Samsung slow for anyone else?

Internet is fast, all other apps (Hulu, Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Peacock, etc.) all work perfectly. There is no new version available, and the TV is less than 2 years old.

I keep saying that it's like the DVD is dirty - it just keeps freezing. Any ideas?

What is HBO’s obsession with portraying angry and powerful men?

It seems that’s their specialty and people eat it up. I’m bored of it. They’re usually marketed as being complicated characters, but they’re really not particularly complex beyond a very standard Freudian lens. I’m a man, but I don’t relate to any of these men at all or even aspire to be them, which I think many lovers of these shows secretly want. The characters are always downtrodden males who have something to prove and eventually always become powerful. It’s all so predictable at this point, which is why I’m not going to bother with The Penguin. Even in female-driven shows they produce, the women always seem to act like men. I’m not a classical feminist, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It’s not particular to HBO that audiences love angry men (see Breaking Bad), but they are the ones who cultivated this trend and seem hellbent on continuing it. I know this sub will hate it, but it’s the truth and should be discussed.

This is my perfect ending for Boardwalk empire

I had AI write my perfect ending to boardwalk empire, hope you enjoy:

THE LAST STAND AT NUCKY’S The evening air in Atlantic City was thick with the smell of salt and seaweed, the ocean whispering its secrets to anyone who would listen. The moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the streets that lay still under the weight of tension. It had been months since Jimmy Darmody and Richard Harrow had walked the same ground as their former mentor, Nucky Thompson, but now, their paths had converged once more.

Jimmy, his eyes still haunted by his past, and Richard, his expression always unreadable beneath the mask, stood side by side in front of Nucky's grand mansion. The house loomed like a fortress, its elegant façade a stark contrast to the darkness that now clung to the men. The years had taken their toll, shaping them into something different—something darker, perhaps. Jimmy no longer wore the boyish innocence of a young soldier, and Richard had shed any remaining vestiges of his old self. They had become instruments of destruction, drawn together by an unspoken bond and a single, undeniable purpose: to end it all.

Jimmy lit a cigarette, the ember flickering briefly before the smoke rose, swirling like the memories of his betrayal and the dreams of revenge that had driven him to this moment. Nucky Thompson had once been a mentor to Jimmy, but now, he was a symbol of all that had gone wrong in his life. The lies. The manipulation. The people they had lost along the way. "Tonight, it's over," Jimmy muttered, his voice low but resolute. Richard didn't answer. His only response was the soft click of the action of his rifle being pulled back. He was ready. Always ready.

They moved toward the front door, each step measured, deliberate. Jimmy could hear the distant sounds of laughter and clinking glasses from within. Nucky’s infamous parties were well underway, a constant reminder of the power he wielded, even after all these years. But the music and revelry would soon stop, and the mansion would be filled with only the sound of death.

They reached the front door. Jimmy knocked, the sound echoing through the grand hallway. It wasn’t long before the butler answered the door. “Good evening, gentlemen,” the butler said, his voice polite but laced with suspicion. “How may I help you?” Jimmy didn’t waste time on pleasantries. He pulled out his gun, pressing it against the butler’s temple before the man could react. “Tell Nucky we’re here,” Jimmy said, his tone cold.

The butler’s face drained of color, but he quickly stepped aside, ushering them in. They entered the opulent mansion, the grand chandelier above them casting long shadows across the marble floors. The air was thick with the smell of cigar smoke and expensive perfume, a sharp contrast to the deadly intent that was about to unfold.

The living room was filled with the usual suspects: Nucky Thompson, his loyal right-hand man Eli, the calculating Margaret Schroeder, the ambitious Gillian Darmody, and a few of Nucky’s enforcers. They were laughing, their voices rising and falling in a cacophony of false camaraderie. For a moment, it seemed like nothing had changed. But the moment Richard’s rifle came into view, the room fell silent.

Nucky stood up, his face a mask of surprise and disbelief. “Jimmy,” he said, his voice dripping with incredulity. “What the hell is this?” Jimmy’s eyes were hard, his voice unwavering. “You know what this is, Nucky. This is the end.” The room erupted into chaos. Eli reached for his gun, but Jimmy was faster, shooting him in the chest before he could even raise it. Nucky lunged for his own pistol, but Richard’s rifle barked once, sending a bullet straight through Nucky’s hand and into his chest.

Margaret screamed, her hands raised in desperation. “No! You can’t do this!” But Richard’s second shot silenced her, the bullet tearing through her side and leaving her crumpled on the floor in a pool of blood. Lucky Luciano tried to flee, his usual bravado now replaced with panic. But it was too late. As he reached for his gun, Richard reached faster, With a flash of movement, the bullet found its mark, tearing through Lucky’s chest. Gillian, ever the survivor, made a break for it, her heels clicking against the marble floor as she ran for the door. But Jimmy was already there, blocking her path. She froze, her eyes wide with fear. "You don’t have to do this," she pleaded. “You’re still my son.” Jimmy’s heart clenched, but the anger and betrayal were too great. "You lost that right the moment you betrayed me," he whispered before pulling the trigger. The shot rang out, and Gillian fell to the floor, her blood staining the white carpet. Only one person was left—Nucky Thompson. He was on the floor, gasping for breath, his hand clutching his chest where the bullet had torn through his flesh. His eyes were wide with a mixture of pain and disbelief, his mouth moving but no words coming out.

Jimmy approached him slowly, his gun still smoking in his hand. “I used to look up to you, Nucky,” Jimmy said, his voice raw with emotion. “You were supposed to be my mentor. But all you did was use me. You destroyed everything I cared about.” Nucky’s eyes narrowed, and he tried to lift himself up, his voice strained. “You think you’ve won, huh? You think this makes you the victor?” he spat, blood pooling at the corners of his mouth. Jimmy shook his head, his expression cold. “It’s not about winning. It’s about ending the cycle. You and your kind have been ruining people’s lives for too long. I won’t let you keep doing it.” He raised the gun once more, and without hesitation, he fired. The room went silent, the only sound the echo of the shot ringing through the mansion. Jimmy stood over the fallen man, his chest heaving with the weight of everything he had just done. Richard said nothing, only offering a nod of approval before he turned and walked toward the exit, disappearing into the night.
