I don't care what you all say, I really do think Maniac is a good character. I think it's cool how subversive he is, he's clearly a walking talking cartoon like character, yet he's a hard worker and actually does stuff with his page time.

There's also the fact that he's one of the very few Goosebumps characters to have a personality. He's goofy, spunky, full of energy and confidence, comes off as a leader between the villains, and weirdly sympathetic. That scene in the Keeper's Lair when he said he always promised himself a happy ending made me feel sorry for him. It's like he just wanted to be happy despite the circumstances.

It's baffling to me how Maniac is the hated one while the Purple Rage isn't, despite having no redeeming qualities. Yes he saved Robby from falling but only after he threw him off the building. And being eaten alive by scorpions is much worse that eating a dead squirrel, thank you very much. And no, Rage is not funny. Maniac at least has some variety in his humour and you can laugh at how absurd they sound, but I always find myself wanting to punch Rage to make him shut up.

I firmly believe that Dr. Maniac would have been a well loved character if his book was better written. On a side note, Robby is also a good character. They're the main reason Dr. Maniac VS Robby Schwartz isn't the worst HorrorLand book.

My main ones would be:

1. Nicole from the Abominable Snowman of Pasadena. We're meant to see her as some kind of insufferable know-it-all, but she isn't even malicious or anything, she just has bad social skills. As such, I always felt kinda bad for her, and felt like Jordan was a pretty big jerk, as he says he wishes she was never born, and lets her fall into the compost heap and get covered in slime just because he was annoyed with her.

2. Mindy from Revenge Of The Lawn Gnomes. Kinda the same reason. She mainly just wants to be left alone, and Joe is always bothering her. The book also portrays her being super-organized as bad, but I don't really get why, her putting her clothes in rainbow order is kind of adorable IMO.

Who else finds the stories too silly?

I bought 10 books and wrap each one, I was left with 6 (which i'll keep for next year).

Definitely not as successful as I wanted it to be, so will prob not buy new books for next year

In One Night in Payne House, you can run into a ghost woman who gives this advice to you:

"In the secret passage behind me, go to the left. Cross through the library to the back hall. Then climb the BACK stairs. Never go up the front — the front stairs will always be guarded."

"On the second floor, go into the Pink Room. "Search in the back of the closet for a small set of drawers. There is another key in there — a key that will unlock the one room where the windows are still open."

When you ask how to get into the secret passage, she says that you should have taken the key from her throat.
