I'm looking at getting an oculus quest to build a 3d model for a game in Google blocks. Does anyone know what the maximum model size is in Google blocks?
If so, where. I can't find a download for Quest 2 or am I completely misunderstanding what it is?
Hello! I tested Google Blocks for the first time yesterday. When opening a LITTLE more advanced creations from the gallery (like a beach buggy) the app is stuttering, getting low fps.
I was using Virtual Desktop to stream the app from my PC to my Quest 2, so that could have something to do with it but it seems unlikely since I can stream much more advanced games without issue (HL Alyx).
I have a RTX2070 and I’m finding it really weird that it would not be able to render a low polygon beach buggy without stuttering.
Is this normal?
What would people want to see in a Google Blocks 2.0... Don't ask my questions about development, I can't answer them right now - sorry. But I can tell you that the landscape has changed so we need some discussion around Google Blocks and where we can continue to add value and integration.
Just learned of this modeling tool and all videos I see feature a toolbox always placed on the modelers left hand.
Is there a way to make it a left hand version?
Just orderen a Rift-S and looking forward to trying this out
I'm finding the snap function in Google Blocks extremely finicky - how do you guys all work with it? Just aligning simple shapes to other shapes can be a pain in the butt - sometimes the snap just won't snap at all. Is it supposed to be like it currently is, or is there some trick to make it work right? And that's just for shapes. Are strokes even supposed to snap to objects? They seem to live a life of their own, and I can't snap them to anything what so ever. Also, is there a trick to keeping the hand steady, as I sometimes move just a few milimeters a split second before placing a block, which mis-aligns it by a fraction - very annoying!
Anyways - people are making fantastic things with Blocks, so hopefully I'm just not doing it right somehow. Anyone got any good tips to share?
I am a game art student and this would be a huge time saver for blocking out an environment or prop that I am working on. (plus it would be a fun break from sitting at my desk modeling for 8 hours straight lol.)
Also If you can import them and keep working on them on your pc, would they import as high poly objects because things in vr have to be high rez to look good?
Is this an option in Blocks? For reference, in Oculus Medium, you can turn on the mirror option and whatever you edit or create on the right side, is made flipped on the left side. I need this option because I am terrible at making symmetrical body parts (Left arm, Right arm) without it haha..
I've been trying to figure out a way to do this without using autotrace. I know I can download the .fbx and .obj files from the gallery but bringing those into illustrator is where I get stuck. Any help appreciated!
Hi,
Question,
When I import a colorize shape made in Google Block into Tilt Brush, the colors are gone. Am I missing something when exporting a shape?
Can one use blocks without a VR headset? I feel like that should be possible but don't have a PC to check.
This is an awesome program!
I really enjoy the simplicity of everything and the rough edges it forces. Despite the program being "limited" in terms of what you can do it feels the closest to unrestricted creativity that I've felt in a long time. Not having to dig around in menus is really freeing!
This is the most fun I've had with creative software in years.
I do have some features that I wish existed though and from what I've seen these haven't been suggested before.
I would love it if there was a way to quickly select all or a bigger area. I keep finding myself trying to group things and missing one item and then having to go back and group them again. I wonder if while doing the multi-select you could either shake it like is pretty natural to do when you're trying to select a bunch of things and that shake gesture selects everything. Potentially this could cause people to select all not on purpose though so my other suggestion which I think might be a stronger idea would be to have the selection "trigger radius" be a function of the time that the trigger is help and the velocity. So if you are swiping around quickly you're obviously not carefully selecting objects, while if you are carefully selection objects the radius would stay small.
I would love sub groups. I am trying to think of a solve for this that doesn't mean adding a new menu to manage it, because, like I said above, I really like not having to dig in menus. A big fix for me would be to be able to group something, like the eyes on a character and then later include that group in the "head-group" but if I dissolve the group I would expect the eyes to still be grouped. I think you could quickly double tap for the function of "completely-dissolve-group" as it is now.
Extruding as a selection instead of individual faces This one isn't as big of a deal to me and I can't think of a way to solve it without adding another menu item, but I sit right by where we have our VR set up at work and I've noticed a few people trying to extrude groups of faces in or out which doesn't behave the way they expect. I guess that's the feedback. These people don't have a lot of 3d experience and I think they're thinking it would default to extruding by selection rather than by face normal.
Anyone else have any features they want included? I'm seriously finding myself dreaming in Blocks.
It's a real pain to have to reselect everything if I don't get the placement exactly right when moving a group of objects.
Everything I've seen so far made in Google Blocks is, well, blocky. Regular tools like Blender allow you to create objects that are more realistic, is this possible with Google Blocks?
I've only had a few minutes to test this out yesterday, but with the tools available i didn't see a way of easily creating a 3d circle (meaning like a sphere that has 2 flat surfaces). How do you do that? (With which primitive do you start?)
PS. I'm anticipating this will have a very easy answer and make me look stupid, but oh well...
