Welcome to the Glasgow subreddit. For everything Glasgow and the West.
WHAT'S RELEVANT
Radio Clyde phone-in rules apply. The sub covers anything that's relevant to Glasgow and the West of Scotland - so if it's a G, PA, ML, KA or FK postcode area it's in. We've got a few topics that aren't allowed. Check below.
REGULAR REPOSTS
There's a useful and growing resource at the Glasgow Wiki (thanks to users sevenof9k and LordAnubis).
Please check it out for ideas for your weekend in Glasgow, what area you might want to live in and lots of other things.
Please also use the search function, almost every question you can think of has been asked before. If it's been asked recently your repost will be removed.
NEWS SPAM
There are lots of sources for local news, search for the Glasgow Times, Daily Record, or even Glasgow Live if that's what you're looking for. Feel free to share any interesting or high profile news stories but we don't need a new thread every time there's a story about Glasgow's pot-holes.
NO ADVERTISING
Please do not post submissions on this subreddit for selling/buying items. Go to /r/GlasgowMarket for that. Be sure to subscribe, if you want to see those posts on your feed.
No advertising for relationships/friends either sorry, feel free to use The Steamie if you're looking for friends
JOBS
This also now applies to jobs as well. We now have /r/GlasgowJobs as another dedicated sister subreddit. Free to post your jobs on there and if you're looking for one, get subscribed!
FOOTBALL
We are embarking on a new era where Football posts are now allowed, indeed celebrated. Don't take the piss.
PHOTOS, MEMES, ETC
The sub is not your personal photo blog. Unless you've taken a photo the likes of which nobody has ever seen before, share it on your Instagram.
NEW TO GLASGOW?
Below we have collated some useful links for your convenience. Please check if what you need is in there first, before posting any questions. Also, use search. If you've got a generic question about the city it's almost certainly been asked before.

My partner and I arrived in Glasgow from Canada 2 months ago, and after too much hassle (Air BnB's and Agencies (as newcomers) are a fucking nightmare ) finally landed a 1 bedroom tenement flat in Haghill from a private landlord (no agency). The photos on the ad were lovely, but now we know they were at least 5 (if not 10) years old. He mentioned he purchased it 15 years ago. When we viewed the place, there was 2 kids running around and it was full of stuff so we didn't get to have a full look. In the interest of making sure we had a place to move we took it. When we moved in yesterday, it hit us how shabby it's been allowed to get. Leaky faucets, missing knobs on cupboards, electric sockets not working, leaking radiator, holes in walls, moldy bath caulking, dirty walls/doors/fixtures, dusty, black corners, cobwebs and lots of spiders (my partner has a bad phobia), sticky knobs on cupboards, dirty window ledges/light fixtures, pen and crayon and stickers on walls, floors, and radiators, etc etc. We thought it might be a good idea to have a tradesperson and professional cleaner come by to do a full assessment of what needs fixing/cleaning (and how severe any damage is), how much it would cost per job, any recommendations for additional work (painting, plastering, etc), and expected time-frame for each. That way we could present the landlord with our list as vetted by a professional and negotiate getting everything dealt with ASAP. We would pay an hourly rate (or all-in-one fee - whixhever they prefer) to have the assessment/estimate done, and would absolutely call them first if the landlord approves of paying for it. Additionally I've sent an initial message to a law firm to see how much they charge to take on helping us (my research says at least £750), but I'm also going to reach out to Shelter Scotland to see if they can advise and possibly support us.
Here's the Google Drive link of photos and videos of the place. Please don't try to find and kill us and hide our bodies with the dead birds in the scary outside storage locker.
I suppose I'm mainly shouting into the dark, but if anyone has constructive advice in addendum of what I'm already planning on, I'm all ears.
Any dismissive/defeatist comments please keep to your goddamned selves. Go touch touch some grass instead.

Looking for spots to take my dad who arrives tomorrow morning and is a fan of a big fry up. Good value for money and reasonably priced with in the City Centre/Southside area.
Good morning all, I am looking to move to Glasgow with my young family (4&6) next April. We spent last week looking at areas, we like Kirkintilloch, Milngavie, Bearsden. Aware that these are quite expensive areas, please can anyone recommend other nice areas? Thanks in advance 😁
Edit, budget is 240ish, understand that Milngavie etc way out of our reach, we just liked those areas. Possible we might rent first for a bit, we just want somewhere safe for the kids to grow up, with more space then we currently have, a 3 bed with a garden is the dream. Looking to commute to the city, thanks already for all the great advice!

i just started bouldering and i've had 3 sessions at tca's newsroom. was thinking about getting a membership but i still haven't visited the gcc. any climbers here have a preference with what gym they go to? i would likely just be bouldering, i'd maybe look into autobelay or whatnot a little later on into my climbing journey?
also if there are any uni students who want to go climbing together, hmu! would be great to climb with someone more experienced than me
What are people’s views of the pubs in the southside area? I have heard some positive stuff and some horror stories. I want to know what’s best place to chill out and the places to avoid!
Long story short I'm a 30 year old woman with severe gastroparesis and a surgical feeding tube. My heart is failing, I'm on my last legs and the NHS have denied me any further treatment. Private treatment is very expensive and only done in London so my sister started a GoFundMe. I have zero experience with this, so if anyone has any tips or knows how to market the page I would really appreciate it! I tried the GoFundMe reddit page but don't have enough karma to post. Would local cafes accept flyers etc?
Thanks for reading! And please be kind, I'm already at rock bottom.
Hey! So I was out in town around 8:45 PM on Halloween by a building with purple lights. I asked this guy, probably around 25-30, to photobomb us and he totally went for it. I still laugh thinking about how you let us photobomb you 😂 I couldn’t really see you but I remember you didn’t seem too keen on tagging me. I was wearing a black Nike hoodie and cargos, and my friend she was dressed as a clown. If you see this, hit me up
Hi,
I’m new in Glasgow and I wonder if someone knows a good and affordable barber in the west end/hillhead area?
Kind regards
Got this email above, not sure what to suggest if anyone can help? Want to make sure this guy has the best time when he comes for new year
Preferably Renfrewshire but can drive for it, need to pick up today
Hello,
Does anyone know of you're given a time window for council bulk uplift? I've been given a date but that's it.
Basically what the title says
I fled an abusive relationship with some clothes and am staying in temp accommodation. I'm homeless and frightened about what's next for me. I've been told I can apply to housing associations, but not sure where I'd like to live. My support network is mainly the west end. Can anyone give me some advice on applications? How long will the process take?
Me, my partner and our 2 small children are moving to Glasgow soon. My partner will be working at the QE hospital. Any recommendations on areas to live? Ideally near decent school and public transport.
Thanks in advance!
Looked like he was doing it for a photo shoot as there was another guy with a big camera taking photos. The robot fella couldn't hear well through his mask and balaclava and blocked the station escalators while waiting for the photographer's cue.
I need to upload several terabytes of files for a freelance job but my home broadband speeds are terrible (my building isn't connected to fibre yet) and the wifi in Glasgow Life buildings seems to be not much better (I tried in Hillhead Library this afternoon and the upload estimate was over a week haha). Can anyone recommend any public spots in the city with lightning fast wifi? I'm guessing some uni study spaces that the general public can use might be a possible option? or any laptop friendly cafes that have top tier fiber? thanks in advance for any tip offs :)

Like, at this point it’s meaningless. Do the people that take part not get bored…? I’ve lived in a few cities and I’ve only noticed it here. It’s bizarre
So went for a bus, bus stop that's been there for decades still has the bus route posted.
Bus drove past but managed to run and catch it at another stop. According to the driver inspectors have said they can't use that stop only a certain bus now.
But why not update the app and the bus stop to reflect this.
Sooner we get a TfL or bee style network the better this is a fucking joke.
Hey, I’ve always been interested in motorbikes and dirt biking but never had the chance to do it before. I haven’t taken a CBT and have never driven a motorbike, only been a passenger.
Is there anywhere in Scotland I’d be able to learn as a complete beginner on private land? I’m in my 20’s so obviously the kids classes wouldn’t suit, but is there somewhere for adults to learn?
I would do my CBT but I can’t afford to buy a bike, I would just love to be able to rent one and do some off roading lessons.
Any recommendations?
Just wondering if anyone has any experience of any local helplines that give you someone to chat to you when mental health is low. I have tried breathing space before but there was an automated message saying to wait as all lines were busy and I guess when you’re feeling low that isn’t the best thing to hear. I know someone can’t fix it for me but even just someone that can listen or give advice. Thanks so much .
I love this city and have been living here for like... 3 or 4 years now? I also unfortunately have a severe chronic pain condition (amidst other health concerns) and am seeking Assisted Dying via DIGNITAS
I wanna have places I can take my friends and make experiences with them in the city that aren't too physically taxing or expensive and that are within the interest bracket of a silly 25 year old. Something that's Glasgow-adjacent in range would also be viable
If I get the date I want, I have about 468 days left. So nothing too speculative or like. A concert in 2027 or anything.
For some further context, I really like Sharmanka's Kinetic Sculptures and such like that! Y'know, little fun attractions.
Thanks and much love to you all and our beautiful city!!
Hi all,
I'm attempting to host a 30th birthday party with some odd requirements,
I'm looking for a venue within Glasgow city centre or southside that has a good acoustic space, many of the attendees are deaf hearing aid users and I want to make sure everyone can access the event. Large halls wouldn't work.
Id also like a space that could allow for a performer (magician drag queen etc), private bar so ordering is easier for all and perhaps a space for food. Ideally I'd love to be able to self cater myself but open to places that provide food.
If you know anywhere I'd really appreciate it, I've contacted several places but in having odd responses regarding the deaf requirement
This is probably a long shot, sorry in advance. I’m currently on the waiting list for nerve conduction studies at the QEU Hospital. I was told it was a 20 week waiting list. That was 13 weeks ago, so getting there slowly and painfully lol. I’m also on the short notice cancellation list.
I was just wondering if anyone has been on/is on the waiting list (or neurophysiology waiting list in general) and could tell me what your experience has been. How long did you wait? How much notice did you get for your appointment? Did you get a cancellation?
The closer it gets to the end of the 20 weeks, the more antsy I become. I first went to the GP in October of last year, so it’s been a long wait in general to get this sorted.
Thanks!
Hey! I've got 2 adult tickets to strathaven fireworks. I'm unable to make it so if anyone wants them they are more than welcome to them.
