Applied to the wrong course

Okay, so i was applying for psychology MA but my agent applied for psychology Bsc without asking me. When i decided to substitute that, it said you can’t substitute your course in the same uni. I dont meet the Bsc requirement, i meet the MA requirements spectacularly. Am i straight up rejected or is there any way to change that ?

Why Turnitin?

I'm an exchange student for one semester and genuinely wondering why any university would use turnitin? I only had 2 essays so far but both had the exact same result when viewing the thing on turnitin: it marked the question at the very top and every single quote (correct in-text citation in MLA with "" and complete source).

In one Essay it marked every single time I called the artwork I was talking about by its name and also random parts of sentences, sometimes not even coherent. I genuinely don't get what good this service can do for either students or teachers. I've never seen it before either, is it common in the UK?

Sorry, just a question of pure curiosity (and because I'm a little dumbfounded)

Im building an online platform for students in tech & Ai that want to build and collaborate on innovative projects !

Hi there :)

I got something cool to share with you, over the past few months i have been running around trying to find a way to make a dream come true

Im creating a online hub for students in tech / Ai that care about technological innovation and having a positive impact by building and contributing on projects

This is hub will be a place to find like minded people to connect with and work on passion projects with.

Currently we are coding a platform so that everyone can find each other and get to know each other

After we got some initial users we will start with short builder programs where individuals and teams can compete in a online competition where the projects that stand out the most can earn some prize :)

Our goal is to make the world a better place by helping others to do the same

If you like our initiative, please sign up below !

And in some weeks, once we're ready we will send you a invite to join our platform :)

Any insights on MSc Medical Devices Engineering

Hi everyone!

I'm an international student with a background in biomedical engineering, and I'm seriously considering applying to the MSc in Medical Devices Engineering program at the University of Glasgow. I’ve heard great things about the school and Glasgow as a city, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with this specific program How competitive is it to get into this program as an international applicant? Any tips on what they're looking for? Did the program help you with job placements, internships, or networking within the medical devices field?

I’d really appreciate any insights you all might have! Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences, and any tips for a prospective student like me would be amazing! Thank you ao much!

Food & Cheap Halloween Activities Recommendations?

I’m a student from the University of Lancaster and I’ll be spending the weekend here in Glasgow. Super excited to explore the city a bit! I was wondering if any of you could recommend some good places to grab food that won’t break the bank? Bonus points if it’s something unique or local to Glasgow!

Also, with Halloween coming up, I’d love to check out any budget-friendly or student-friendly Halloween events, activities, or spooky places worth visiting while I’m here. Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Thanks in advance! 😊

staff at my accommodation keep entering my flat without notice

I’m in student accommodation and three times (that I know of) male staff members have entered my flat without giving any notice, not even knocking. Twice they entered the shared kitchen and once my bedroom. This morning I walked into the kitchen and there was an adult man sitting at our table, tapping on his phone. It’s an all female flat so obviously we’re pretty uncomfortable.

Is this allowed? I’m international and where I’m from this would be a big issue. From what I’ve looked into the laws here seem to be pretty similar, but maybe it’s different because it’s student accommodation.

Kelvin Game Jam

I've just seen an ad at JMS for the game jam happening next week. They're doing upto teams of 5. I've got pretty much no experience with game dev (a little bit of unity and a decent amount of JS knowledge) but I've always wanted to do a game jam. Plus, I'm dogshit at anything design wise.

If anyone's interested in teaming up (£500 for first place) lmk - especially if you're good at graphic design or have any blender/3d modelling skills too would be really handy.

MSc In biotech

Hii,

I got an unconditional offer for an MSc in biotech recently, and I have a BSc in biology (international student).

However, after reading posts about the economy, I'm having a lot of second thoughts. I was wondering whether there are any grads from this program willing to give me advice. What are you doing now, are you employed, how's the salary, can I even find a job?

I do not mind relocating to anywhere in the world. My aim is to get into a funded PhD afterwards, but if I couldn't, I want to at least find a decent job.

Public Showers on Campus?

So the shower in my room is not working and the accommodation service is taking more time than they said they would take to fix it. Long story short I have not been able to shower for almost 30 hours now and it's making me feel uncomfortable. Are there any public showers in the uni which I can use for a quick shower? I will be bringing all of my stuff with me so all I am looking for is a working showerhead in a clean environment with some privacy. I know that there are showers in the gym but I am not a member of the uni gym and besides one of my friends said that the showers there are communal and have no stalls separating the people using them.

https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/sustainability/travel/walking/showersongilmorehillcampus/

I did find this on the uni website so if anyone frequently uses or has used the shower facilities from any one of these places on the campus before then can they let me know if it's available for all uni students and what it's like? Thanks!

Is the 4th year optional

Hi,

I’m considering applying to Glasgow university (I’m in year 13 and live in England) I would love to study English literature and then convert it to a Law degree afterwards. This means that I do not need to go to MA level and the 4th year is pointless for me + adds a whole other year onto my already extended time at uni. I was wondering if the 4th year at Glasgow is 100% compulsory or if I can graduate after 3 like in England without the MA?

Thanks for the help x

Accommodation application timeframe

I've just put in an application for semester-only accommodation from January 2025 to June 2025 as an incoming undergraduate exchange student.

When should I expect to receive a response about outcome? I'm stressed because it all feels quite tight given there's only two months left before I have to come to Scotland.

Thanks in advance!

Any one enrolled in semiconductor manufacturing msc? What is it like and what are the entry requirements? What's the typical class demographic in terms of background? How practical is it? I am applying for the course so Id appreciate your advice.

Any advice/tips for an incoming exchange student?

I’ll be joining the University of Glasgow for an exchange/study abroad semester in January. While I’ve done my research and I have a general idea of what to expect, I’d love to hear if any current students/alumni have some advice for adjusting to life in Glasgow/other general advice when it comes to settling into the university:)

History/ Ancient History/ Classics

I saw a post earlier asking about classics/ancient history and people were saying Glasgow is horrible for those subjects?

I intend to do the Information preservation & management course at Glasgow, and the main requirtement is a 2.1 honours in literally any degree. Because I want to get a job in Archiving I thought studying Ancient rome/Greece would be a good degree to do.

I currently do Classics at A Level, and did it for my GCSEs and I love the subject - however I don't want to risk my future over this. Is it really that bad at Glasgow? I went to the Open Day a few days ago and it seemed alright. The professor for History seemed competent ( I wasn't able to visit the other talks, just History) and I wonder if I should go for a plain History course instead. Sorry for the rambling, I'm panicking a little.

Hi there, I'm new to reddit so not sure about formatting. Does anyone on here study a Celtic degree / double degree at Glasgow? I've applied to do an undergraduate one but would love to get some insight into the programme.

Would failing a core (unchosen class) in highschool affect chances of getting in?

Want to attend Glasgow Uni for medicine.

I didn’t choose RMPS but my school has a required 1 period for RMPS for all students. While if you don’t pick it you obviously dont do an exam in it, there is an assignment where you can get some sort of qualification from it. I half-assed jt since i didn’t think the subject matters. So theoretically if I fail core RMPS would that matter at all as long as i pass all other classes?

Unpaid Tuition

Does anyone know what happens if I don't pay my tuition in time? I'm still having it processed by Student Finance England and have already received two warnings from the finance team. I'm kind of getting the feeling that they're empty threats though.
