In the latest Dartmoor (not a) Podcast, I am joined by the wonderful artist and author Jo Brown (author of 'Secrets of a Devon Wood'), to stomp around some Dartmoor woodland looking for beautiful fungi... https://youtu.be/YOk4j8C942k
Hey I need to get a new pair of boots and I need something good quality, durable and waterproof. Ones that can withstand walking through bogs and heavy usage. Thought I’d see if anyone has any recommendations that have served them well. I’m a men’s size 10 if that helps
Im interested in panning for tin and finding a small quantity. No real reason, just tried a few rivers with my gold pan and thought it would be easy. It doesnt appear to be and i found nothing, i think at least. Found some black sand in one river, but no clue if it was tin or not.
Last weekends walk to Erme pits
I've scanned google maps of all tin streaming areas but the ones ive visited have been well washed and there is no sand/sediment left to pan. They knew what they were doing and were allowed to dig i suppose.
Has anyone had any luck? I have found cassiterite in tin mine dumps but nothing else.
I’m in Plymouth and it’s sleeting here, seen pics of Exeter covered in snow today what’s it like on Dartmoor?
Everything looking very autumnal. My favourite time of the year for photography.
Looking for winter route recommendations for multi day hike/wild camps
I'd like to do 6 days if possible, while traversing the park, but if it's not possible, I'll just do two
Just wondering how high the water/boggy the ground is atm? Me and my mates are planning a camp on Fur Tor next weekend and we’re trying to plot the best route …🤔
Cheers in advance

Visiting with my wife for a week of downtime and we’d like to stay somewhere that’s quintessentially Dartmoor. Peaceful, cosy, scenic, etc.
Trouble is we haven’t been in over twenty years, and while we vaguely remember places we went we’ve no idea where would be a good base today.
We’d ideally like somewhere with a pub or two, walks out the front door, and not too much of a trek for groceries and other provisions. Any recommendations would be gratefully received.
I'm feeling adventurous and planning a winter hike and camp in December, from Friday evening to Sunday around noon.
I've been looking at a few potential routes, and one that stands out is Okehampton to Ivybridge, which is about 50 km. I have some experience on Dartmoor, having completed the Ten Tors challenge twice in my younger years, and I have all the proper gear.
However, given the potential for cold, wet, or snowy conditions in December, I'm wondering if a 50 km trek is realistic within this time frame, or if I should consider a shorter 30 km circular route in the northern moors instead.
I'd love to hear opinions and route recommendations for a good winter challenge!

A beautiful medieval Dartmoor church, granite built from the granite moors, with an exterior of aged beauty.
Then there is the lush medieval wood carving, roof bosses, rood screen, angels and apostles, wonderful stuff.
Sprinkle with some very pretty stained glass and we have a moorland church most excellent indeed.
